I decided to read Expiration Date last night so no post for you. The Bradley Manning guilty verdict will be announced at 1 pm Weiner/Spitzer time (10 am Filner). My #2 Grandson turns six years old today. I’ll be going over there for cake this evening. On Thursday I’ll be able to afford beer again.

What else is happening?

Said Thomas Jefferson: “The man who reads nothing at all is better educated than the man who reads nothing but newspapers.” Jefferson’s comment may be expanded to include most of today’s mass media; this is especially true of television. As American linguist Samuel Ichiye Hayakawa said: “In the age of television, image becomes more important than substance.” It is effectively visual lying, dictated by Marshall McLuhan’s observation: “The medium is the message.” For example, TV news programs often illustrate air pollution with a smoke stack emitting water vapor, implying it is pollution when it is anything but.

Holy Haruhi, I thought I was a pessimistic curmudgeon, but Kunstler makes me look like Pollyanna. 🙄

Yes, he is definitely the “gatekeeper” of that side! Some Mondays he is more pessimistic than others. He’s pretty down this week but not entirely for the wrong reasons. His book The Geography of Nowhere remains one of my favorites though.

I just saw a story on the TV about a scientific project going on right now off the coast of Cape Cod. Apparently they have tagged 20 great white sharks so far and actually tagged a really big one yesterday.

Soooooooo Jaws is definitely out there……….hmmmm aren’t the Obama’s on vacation in that area now?

Oh the thinks you can think, LOL!

I’m reading London Falling – its’ due back at the lib today so I better finish soon so I don’t get a fine. LOL
It’s kind of a horror-fantasy written crossed with a police procedural written in gritty style. Took me several chapters to get into teh story but it is interesting now.

In other “news”, I got a coupon for pork ribs so I’m trying out a slow cooker korean ribs recipe.

The asshats that work for Congress are going to have to pay for their own insurance through the exchanges. They have known this was coming since March 2010. Serves them right. Tough shit. Get your boss to repeal the crap or shut up.

To my knowledge a person will not even be considered for a transplant if they have had a drink within the last 5 months. Other factors may also come into play. I go in for a weeks worth of tests to make sure I am healthy enough to be a candidate. Still haven’t decided if I will do it. Don’t think I want something that could have gone to a kid or a young mother. Luckily I am from a big family and have gotten offers for living donor. Problem is until obamacare is sorted out with regards to pre-existing conditions I am in limbo with that too. Removal of gallbladder is necessary for transplant and the donor becomes someone with a pre-existing condition as a result. Also their is always a risk to the giver.
Anyhow take Milk Thistle if you have a penchant for drinking– my docs swear by it for someone without cirrhosis.(Too late then)
