State Senator Obama, October 2, 2002:
What I am opposed to is a dumb war. What I am opposed to is a rash war. What I am opposed to is the cynical attempt by Richard Perle and Paul Wolfowitz and other armchair, weekend warriors in this administration to shove their own ideological agendas down our throats, irrespective of the costs in lives lost and in hardships borne.
What I am opposed to is the attempt by political hacks like Karl Rove to distract us from a rise in the uninsured, a rise in the poverty rate, a drop in the median income — to distract us from corporate scandals and a stock market that has just gone through the worst month since the Great Depression. That’s what I’m opposed to. A dumb war. A rash war. A war based not on reason but on passion, not on principle but on politics. Now let me be clear — I suffer no illusions about Saddam Hussein. He is a brutal man. A ruthless man. A man who butchers his own people to secure his own power. He has repeatedly defied UN resolutions, thwarted UN inspection teams, developed chemical and biological weapons, and coveted nuclear capacity. He’s a bad guy. The world, and the Iraqi people, would be better off without him.
But I also know that Saddam poses no imminent and direct threat to the United States or to his neighbors, that the Iraqi economy is in shambles, that the Iraqi military a fraction of its former strength, and that in concert with the international community he can be contained until, in the way of all petty dictators, he falls away into the dustbin of history. I know that even a successful war against Iraq will require a U.S. occupation of undetermined length, at undetermined cost, with undetermined consequences. I know that an invasion of Iraq without a clear rationale and without strong international support will only fan the flames of the Middle East, and encourage the worst, rather than best, impulses of the Arab world, and strengthen the recruitment arm of al-Qaida. I am not opposed to all wars. I’m opposed to dumb wars.
Oh, how the Obots swooned over this speech. Of course he was against it before he was for it, then he was against it again, then for it again.
Or as Bill Clinton put it, “The biggest fairy tale I’ve ever seen.”
Fairy tale, indeed.
Why isn’t the President of the United States addressing the nation about Syria instead of his Secretary of State?
What’s he afraid of?
He delegates the little lies to the flunkies. The red line bullshit he saves for himself the trashtalker in chief. Kerry is starting to look a lot like Joan Rivers. All he needs is a wig and some ugly jewelry.
The Obots are stupid enough to blame Kerry for starting a war and think Obama had nothing to do with it.
The Obots need to remember this: “You WON!!!”
Its been 5 years now…. and they still don’t give their hero his due respect.
The Dems and their sacred little pony have been responsible for EVERYTHING his administration has (mis)handled since January 2009. It’s time they take ownership of the rewards and consequences.
Kerry should have given his Winter Soldier speech. (scroll down past the opening statement blah, blah, blah to get to JK’s part)

Nah — they’ll blame Romney.
😆 he is taller. 😆
Missing his tee time?
He is probably playing golf while ValJar cooks up the Syria war.
Long Face McRich gave a speech. Sounded exactly like Cheney before Iraq.
Maybe they can get Colin Powell to do a dog & pony show at the UN.
The only thing missing from Kerry’s speech was the little vial.
I thought he was plenty vile.
My deranged computer geek nephew sent me this email:
I denounce myself for laughing. They do indeed.
That’s a great post.
Chicks on the Right are Palin Feminists 😀
They must of gotten bored prancing around in lingerie and stilettos to show their power.
Ok , first of all the pictures are of the mons pubis or alternately called mons veneris with the pudendal cleft ;also called the cleft of Venus, pudendal fissure, pudendal cleavage, pudendal slit, urogenital cleft, vulvar slit, rima vulvae, or rima pudendi .There is no visible vagina , or other anatomical part , labia , visible ,in those pictures on the cover Unless they are showing those parts elsewhere in the article of the magazine , there are no visible vaginas . Anyone who is anyone already knows what a vagina looks like . It is pink , has ruffles not ridges , is about the size of an adult female , and dances at demonstrations .
So much for anatomical correctness . One would think that people who are so obsessed with being politically correct would endeavor to be anatomically correct as well..
Where I come from it’s called “cooter” “poontang” or “panoche”. The first time I saw one the preacher’s daughter told me it was the Gates of Heaven.
She made a very compelling argument.
FYI – I switched browsers bec the one I was using was sooo slow.
This browser is faster but won’t let me “like” posts in wp.
I remember the infamous 2002 anti-war speech, which was re-written and published during his 2008 campaign.
Seems the Chicago Tribune dove into their archives and could find nothing about Obama giving it, but did find out it was at an anti-war rally that Jesse Jackson was holding. They came to the conclusion no one was listening to Obama, or even recording him. Nothing in their old coverage of that event even mentioned his name. Guess the great orator couldn’t even fire up an anti-war group of people much less be memorable.
They re-recorded him giving the speech and dubbed in applause and crowd noise.
There is no proof that what they produced in 2008 was his actual speech.
Composite speech.
And of course, finding the complete lack of any kind of record that he gave the speech in 2002 — even with the acknowledgement that what was released was “re-recorded” — suspicious is racist.
“I remember the infamous 2002 anti-war speech, which was re-written and published during his 2008 campaign. ”
*******
The speech that no one heard goes well with Kerry’s “thrown away” war medals that were on display in his Senate office.
absolutley…nuthin’…
Wouldn’t it be great if they gave a war and no one showed up. 🙂
Make Love , not War …………..
Profits, for the Malefactors Of Great Wealth. 👿
But for the rest of us, yeah, absolutely nothin’.
Epic, no NUCLEAR, rant on twitter last night by one of the AoS co-bloggers in a media takedown rant 😀
Twitchy’s got the rundown:

Note that we don’t know that Obama actually said these words. There are no recordings of the speech and no news media covered it. No contemporaneous transcripts, either. What we have is a reenactment of the speech, produced by the Obama campaign long after the fact in order to support Obama’s claims of having opposed the war (as Denise noted above).
I can see someone being duped in 2008, but by 2012 anyone who voted for him knew he was a war criminal.
His remarks on Syria were not permitted to be recorded or televised live today. Not taking chances on a Syria-ous gaffe?
😉
🙂
Surreptitious recording for thee, not for me.
Wow…talk about not getting it…..jeez. What’s even worse is that their constituents actually believe them.

Why do they have to be so chintzy? Why not make minimum wage $50 hr.?
Just wait until the real inflation rate (that the Obama admin has been artificially keeping down via the treasury) kicks in — minimum wage will be $50 an hour and it will buy even less than the current $7.25 buys now.
Jan Schakowsky has logged the most travel time in Congress. She isn’t here long enough to speak with accuracy about the economy. PLUS, she’s been mainlining koolaid since 2008. I stopped listening to her (and voting for her) then.
^^Supposed to nest under driguana’s comment.^^
Obama as Miley Cyrus 🙂

I’m afraid to look.
That’s a good one!
Today is the anniversary of the Empty Chair (Eastwooding). How fitting.
I still haven’t gotten used to this new keyboard. I barely have to touch the keys, none of them stick and there are no crunching sounds when I type. And ALL THE LETTERS are still there!
Show off!

when the backtrack bunch scuzzbuckets had a chance to maybe save Syrian lives, THEY REFUSED TO DO SO
“Gravity” looks good.
That looks scary as hell to me. I don’t know if I’ll be brave enough to see it a theater — may have to wait until its on DVD so I can watch in my house with all the lights on. 🙂
Also, I love Sandra, but I don’t think Clooney as an astronaut is believable at all.
I’ll watch it at home too, and Sandra is one of my favorites.

The Pentagon is ratting the WH out. “”They need to shut the f–k up,” said a former administration official. “It’s embarrassing. Who ever heard this much talk before an attack? It’s bizarre.” It isn’t bizarre if they don’t want to do it.
Dammit — I’ve been avoiding seeing/hearing Obama for the last few days (and it’s been great, believe you me!) but I just now caught a clip of him on tv saying (and I quote):
Key-rist on a cracker, how can his fuckhead supporters excuse this shit?
Stupid done wrong — it’s what 51.7% of the people want.
