Let’s Talk About Something Else Open Thread

I thought the original Robocop sounded stupid so I blew it off. Then a co-worker told me it was good so I rented the video. It turned out to be a lot better than I expected.

The sequels sucked. Now I’m wondering if I should go see the remake.

Is there an old movie you would like to see remade, and if so, who should star in it?

I like Chloe Grace Moretz as Carrie but Julianne Moore as her crazy old bag mother is typecasting.

My side still hurts from laughing after re-reading Dave Barry’s colonoscopy story. I always send it out to friends having their “first”, so I just dug it out to send, and thought great an open thread to drop it in too đŸ˜€

That is hysterical. My 5 years are up and I need to arrange for another colonoscopy, so far I have only ignored two notices. Thankfully I figured out that beer is a clear liquid about 4 hours into my fast and that and sleeping on the bathroom floor helped me through the “code brown” event the night before. What they never warn you about is the code brown event wipes out your intestinal bacteria and you can’t digest anything properly for a month afterwards.

Robocop – saw it as a kid and the car security ad in the beginning really stuck with me because it was so shocking. (pun?)

I have used every tomato recipe I have to use up my tomatoes.
It is a veritable TomatoTornato here.
All colors and sizes and types.
I am freezing, I am drying and canning and eating daily.
I am having BLTTT for lunch every day.

I blame the chickens for the hot poop.

FYI: I’ve completely lost my marbles. And with all that’s going on, I’m very happy I did.

on netflix there is a series called Bomb Girls. it is about women going to work in a factory that made bombs during WW2. I watched 2 seasons of the show in the last couple of weeks. I remember my mom working in a factory that packed radios to send overseas. they were packed in a colored tinfoil wrapping. I remember making Christmas decorations from it.
If you get a chance to watch it , it is a good series. shows the thinking of working women back then and how they were treated. good acting.
It takes place in Canada. whole different world then

Interesting, there’s going to be a remake of Westworld by JJ Abrams.

The original robocop was quirky and funny. Paul Verhoeven was quite the indie rock star when he made it. This remake should be a hit with the kids. More of an effects movie.

Personally, I find very few film remakes that I actually like….some are worse than others. As an early sci-fi fan, most of the remakes are not very good….take The Day The Earth Stood Still for example. The original 1951 version with Michael Rennie and Patricia Neal was a veritable $50,000 masterpiece.!The 2008 Keanu Reeves version sucked. However, did like the remake of the Invasion of the Body snatchers with Donald Sutherland and have liked most of the King Kong remakes and my favorites “series” remains The Creature from the Black Lagoon, the Revenge of…, and The Creature Walks Among Us. Planet of the Apes are ok, too and perhaps it’s time for a new one with a really good twist.

For a filmmaker who would really want a challenge…how about a remake of The African Queen….now that would be a formidable task and, well, maybe some movies are just better left alone!
