Caturday Open Thread

Miley Catrus

It’s a beautiful Fall day. There is football and baseball to watch. Why are you sitting in front of a computer?

Catness is mad at me for locking her out of my bedroom. She is giving me the cold shoulder. I am heartbroken. I hope she forgives me by meal time.

Is it possible that it was really Obama who filed the complaint about the football team running up the score 91-0? The scoring team was wishing failure on the losers too. The Republicans are bullying O. They wish him not happy thoughts and he deserves only bestest wishes, success and unimpeded fund raising.

The phone and paper application process for Obamacare is fucked up too.
    http://www.politico.com/story/2013/10/obamacare-glitches-paper-phone-applications-98872.html
I think it probably violates the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1980, and all of the following revisions. Also it is very wasteful of paper and trees and environmentally unfriendly unless they use biodegradable toilet paper.

103 Sebelius obviously thinks ObamaCare is Schrodinger’s Cat. It only works until someone questions whether it will work.

    Nice insight!

Time for a fresh neologism to sum it up:

SchrödingerCare – (noun – A government program which exists in a stable functioning state until a Republican observes it, after which it becomes unstable and collapses.

I talked to an 80 year old insurance agency founder last week. I cannot print exactly what he said. The above quote is sweet and mild compared. He started off with “Those goddamned bastards…”.

If Obamacare succeeds in giving Big Insurance the forced revenue streams which Big Insurance’s little lobbyist on Baucus’s staff wrote it to give Big Insurance in the first place, then Obamacare will have succeeded in its real mission. If it does, then Big Insurance, Wall Street, and Big Bank will give Obama many millions of dollars of “after office” payouts.

There were things that needed to change in Americas health care system but Obama care is destroying the parts of health care that worked. I think it is really important to document accurately who uses how much and what kind of health care. There is this theory that women use too much and I doubt that is true. Child birth if it results in a male child needs to go in the male health care column. All people are born all people need to support child birth. Male children make way more emergency room visits and this usage goes into the Male health care column not the “women and children” column. More males are born but more die before age one. Birth control is only necessary in heterosexual relationships meaning birth control is not a womens health care expense it is a human expense. All this shifting of costs to women’s healthcare is bogus and needs to stop. Also hospice care needs to be available much sooner. My Mother was begging for it and was kept in hospital world for two weeks after it was clearly hopeless. Hospice wasn’t covered but hospital care which was far more expensive was covered. It wouldn’t be hard for Republicans to come up with a better plan than Obama care, but they won’t do it.

    • To a logical thinker if there had been a problem with delivering healthcare, and that’s what all the hoopla over the past few years has alleged, the best course would be to fix the delivery system, Then, and only then, would an honest person work on making it economically sustaining.
That the part worked on first was the economics yells loudly from the rooftops this has ALWAYS BEEN ABOUT THE MONEY.

    • The Klown says:

I keep harping on the fact that when you socialize medicine you are using the old model of “To each according to his needs, from each according to his ability.” OBAMACARE DOES NOT CHANGE THE COST OF HEALTHCARE.

Obamacare puts everyone in the same risk pool, then assigns premiums based on their ability to pay. The poor will get free healthcare. The low-income group will get subsidized healthcare. The middle and upper classes will subsidize the poor and lower class, but the upper class will pay the same as the middle class.

But no matter how you divvy-up the cost, some people will use way more healthcare services than others. And it’s not a Bell curve. A small percentage will use a huge amount of healthcare resources.

      That’s the math.

      • The Klown says:

The last numbers I saw said we pay $7,200 per person per year for healthcare in the United States. Multiply that by 300 million people, then divide it by the number of people that actually pay the cost.

      • Constance says:

I agree that certain individuals will use up a lot more health care than average, but to me the problem is that they keep implying women,(and children) a class of people who are not adult males, use more than their fair share or are a burden on the system. They lump all births and pregnancy services under women’s health care when in fact more than half of the people born are males so more than half of all pregnancy services goes in the male column.

        • 1539days says:

Does that mean health care is sexist?

        • Constance says:

The assumptions made about health care are sexist. Another thing men contribute to society by making war and in the process they are beat up and disabled and so we as a society have Veterans Medical Centers that we all support with our tax dollars (and I’m not saying that’s wrong). Women have babies and raise them as a contribution to society and I don’t see a series of government run tax supported maternity hospitals. I do see that as sexist. Unless you think making war is more central to civilization than birthing and raising the next generation.

In fact it is standard practice to exclude women from tax payer funded medical research because they are considered so different from men (the normal people) that they might skew/obscure the results of the research. Then they take the findings of research done on only men and apply it to women taxpayer/patients because women are obviously the same as men so there is no need to study them. This is idiotic as well as sexist.

        • wmcb says:

Women are excluded from much medical research for the simple reason that they get pregnant. And no researcher wants to risk his whole study having to be redone because participants get pregnant and can’t continue. Or worse, they get pregnant, the medicine or treatment being tested causes harm to the baby, and they get the pants sued off them for millions.

It’s not sexism, it’s biology. Biology doesn’t disappear just because one finds it unegalitarian or inconvenient at times. You cannot test drugs on pregnant women, and ALL women unless they are very old are potential pregnant women.

      • r u reddy says:

The Forced Mandate part of Obamacare is still privatised. The taxpayer funded subsidies all go to private profit insurance companies.
The private profit insurance companies let some of their guaranteed money streams go out to private caregivers. I have read that part of the Obamacare law was written to force non-profit Charitable Hospitals
into becoming Private Profit Hospitals for even more profit taking than before. I don’t believe the Charitable Hospitals ever asked for this.

I don’t see what is so “socialized” about forced privatization and Forced Mandate guarantees of premium profit to private insurance companies. ( The Forced Mandate which I predicted Chief Justice Roberts would find some tricky way to uphold to benefit his Social Class Allies).

VA medicine is socialized medicine. Retired Colonel Pat Lang has overtly pointed that out from time to time on his Sic Semper Tyrannis blog.

    http://www.globalresearch.ca/poverty-in-america-us-food-stamp-assistance-to-be-slashed/5355615

    Food Stamps being cut:

The expiration of the extension was not scheduled to take place till 2015, when SNAP benefits are slated to increase. But congressional Democrats used $14 billion that was set aside for food stamps to fund other legislation. In 2010 the Democrats promised to restore the funding before the aid extension expired.

The Democrats have largely kept silent about the slated cut to food stamp aid, and the White House has made no official mention of the benefit cuts in the past week. The media has likewise blacked out the issue, with neither the New York Times, Washington Post or Wall Street Journal carrying stories on the scheduled cut to food stamp aid during the same period.

A lot of people who have given up looking for jobs will be hurting. It is so sad to see recent college grads with no hope of finding a real job and also the over 50 folks who were forced out of their professions when they thought they still had 15 years to work. They want to work. But apparently we need to import non citizens to take the jobs.
