She’s a better choice than Obama:

Miley Cyrus Named a Finalist for Time’s Person of the Year

A couple of hackers may have conspired to have Miley Cyrus win Time magazine’s online Person of the Year vote, but the pop star is actually being considered for the magazine’s annual honor, making Time’s list of 10 finalists, it was revealed Monday morning.

Along with Cyrus, other contenders for Time’s 2013 Person of the Year are Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, Pope Francis, 2012 winner President Barack Obama, Iranian president Hassan Rouhani, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, NSA leaker Edward Snowden and gay rights activist Edith Windsor.

Still, Time’s editors will make the final decision about who will grace the magazine’s cover as its 2013 Person of the Year, revealing their choice on Wednesday’s “Today” show.

These are the same people who picked “You” for the 2006 POTY. I could be catty and say that Miley is a perfect choice because she represents the triumph of talentless celebrities in today’s culture. But that wouldn’t be true.

Miley actually does have some talent, and IMNSHO she’s a lot smarter than people give her credit for. I’m not buying her raunchy rebel public persona. She does too good a job of keeping it between the lines to really be that out of control.

That’s not to say I approve of her act, but I truly believe that it’s mostly an act. I’ll believe otherwise the first time she gets arrested or gets admitted to a hospital with a drug overdose.

Who would you pick for Time’s 2013 Person of the Year?

I agree with your assessment of Miley’s act. She reminds me of women in other generations who pretended to be dumb or helpless because that was what they thought was the way to succeed in society. Both acts annoy me.

When celebrities have real drug and alcohol problems the first warning sign is when their performances and public appearances get erratic – showing up late, canceling, having meltdowns on stage. The second sign is when they stop working and never show up on television shows.

Here is the transcript along with video of Obama’s eulogy. Shockingly he doesn’t talk about himself until the very end, that must have been so hard for him.

Photos of the Obama, er, Mandela memorial ……

Started an hour late ’cause Obama’s motorcade got stuck in traffic.

I must admit that I am shallow enough to covet the diamond necklace that Miley is wearing. It would look great on me!!

  9. helenk3 says:

I may not agree with Miley about her act. so I just do not pay to see her. her choice and my choice.

but this brat, katie perry, hell would freeze over before I would spend a dime to see her. when you take backtrack over your parents , you have a big problem

years and years and billions and billions of dollars and nothing changes.
that is a sad and unacceptable way of life for people in this country

On the Time magazine website the Iranians had taken over and were nominating their freak Prezzie. He outsmarted Bronco as did Putin and Bashir Al-Assad. But as I recall it doesn’t have to be a person but can be a thing of the Year so I nominate Obamacare as thing of the Year for the near bankrupt Time to get a little bump in sales.

when bomber billy ayers ghost wrote backtrack books he forgot Mandela and apartheid

Steve Stockman filed to run against that asshole Cornyn. It will be, um, contentious. LOL.

when GW was president I was a democrat so I looked at him with a jaundiced eye. Since he left office and my eyes cleared, I have gained respect for the man. Will probably never agree on some things but will say the man and his wife do have class. they put their money and their time where there mouth is

To answer the question – The Klown for person of the year

  16. Ann says:

From that finalist list I’d choose Edward Snowden.

I started to type up a list of why, but it comes down to worldwide impact, and some of these people are just regional impact peeps (Sebelius, Cruz, Windsor, Cyrus). I think this past year he has had the most impact worldwide.

  17. DeniseVB says:

    Speaking of Snowden …. 😉

  18. Constance says:

So I guess the women on the Time list are just tokens notice how the men have actually accomplished something. Time’s attitude towards women is offensive and accounts for their decline. Miley is doing all she can to conform to the only image Corporate Music has for women. I guess they are giving her an award for mindless conformity to her corporate masters.

Miley Cyrus is disgusting…so derivative to the point of being redundant (it’s all been done before but only better)! Just want to slap that stupid tongue right back into her mouth! She and her mommy manager must sit around all day scouring past performers to see what elements they can copy into her “act” and then call it a day. For once I agree with Paglia. Miley’s antics (because you can’t call it art) are so uninformed and dumb they are insulting to watch! Big deal she makes tons of money! But so do the Kardashians — who at least claim no talent except to have made their mark on branding and the reality show genre. If TIME chooses her for person of the year, I hope it’s for her utter cynicism and ability to foment disgust.

Sorry for my rant, but Miley Cyrus always puts me in a bad mood!

    • The Klown says:

She’s not my cup of tea either. But I don’t take her seriously.

      • trixta says:

Because she’s very young, I hope for her sake she figures out what her artistic vision is. Otherwise, she may wake up one day with many regrets as she’s summarily pushed off the world’s stage by the next flavor of the month or shock-jock performer.

      • swanspirit says:

But a lot of young people do take her seriously , and equate her antics with “music”

Went to the doctor for my physical today. The wait times weren’t bad, however, she spent maybe ten minutes with me and most was spent typing on her computer. Didn’t really care for this ‘new’ visit as I never received any answers for my digestive problems. Will wait for test results before I make any decision about looking for a new doctor. It’s been 2 years since my last visit and if my problems and pain continue I will go to the ER where I can have tests done immediately and start treatment same day – now it will be at least 2 days before bloodwork and a week before results are read. Ugh

And we have our “official” White House photo of the day ….

  26. angienc says:

It’s actually much worse IMO if Miley’s behavior is just an “act” because at least if it was actually herself she was displaying she’d have the excuse of youth, stupidity & drugs for her ridiculous behavior.
