I Got Nut & Honey

Friday at Goodwill I scored the LOTR trilogy on DVD so yesterday I binge-watched the whole enchilada. I had a microwave burrito for breakfast, potato chips for lunch and a can of chili for dinner.

I spent the past hour looking for something to write about but nothing blew my skirt up so I’m posting an open thread and going to bed. It’s 0315 hrs.

Mulch your tomatoes. The yellowing of lower leaves is caused by soil borne disease splashing on them. Red plastic has the added benefit of increasing pollination. I’ve been feeling guilty for not responding to last year’s query.

Mitt’s on Face the Nation this morning. In the promo, Bob Schieffer mentioned Mitt “taking heat during the campaign for his comments about Russia”. Of course, Schieffer had nothing to do with any of that, right? With Mitt appearing on Sunday morning talk shows, if he’s not thinking about running in 2016, then he’s reminding ppl of their wrong-headed decisions in 2012, at the very least.
OT: it’s 20 degrees and freaking SNOWING again. The forecast is winter-like conditions until Saturday. wtf.

^This^ Hope Mitt’s presence on TV reminds the dumbasses who re-elected Obama that they should vote for the best candidate at the time. Newsflash: He wasn’t Obama.

Calling Al Gore to ask him about global warming – we’re still having below average temps and snow in S.E. Wisconsin. Wanna get out and ride my bike by the lake!!!!

I’d love to see Mitt run again. He said that he won’t, but I hope he left some wriggle room. I’d vote for him any day over a Jeb Bush (and just how many Bush kids are being groomed for high office…the guy in Tx and Jenna “I’m a Today Show correspondent” Bush?)

I hope the Dem nominee won’t be Rahm…

I’d vote for Mitt too. I think the Romneys would bring respect back to the office of POTUS. I’d love to seem pick one of the “whacko birds” , Rand, Rubio, Cruz et al, as VP to help rally the libertarian wing.

Another Sunday of Democratic Party shills claiming that Obamacare is awesome and won’t destroy their majority in the Senate. ABC will have Nate Silver on to predict congressional races. The last time Silver did that in 2010, he did about as well as everyone has done on their NCAA brackets this year.

    • DeniseVB says:

I saw that the Today Show hosts (Lauer, Guthrie) were just mortified Obama, LEADER OF THE FREE WORLD didn’t make the Top 50 Leaders of the Worrrrrrrld list at Fortune. Hmmm, do you think there’s a news story there as to why he may have come in 51st or worse ?

    • leslie says:

Thanks. I went to the link and then visited the site that published MO’s thesis. I honestly could not read it. I’m no intellectual, neither is she. The US History final I wrote in Sr year was far more intelligent than her Princeton thesis and I was completely winging it.
No wonder she worked so hard to make the publishing of this tripe difficult.

Wasn’t “taking us out of our comfort zone” a reason she gave during the first campaign to vote for her husband?

      • erica says:

So arrogant and patronizing. Umm, Michelle, I didn’t vote for him because it is way too far out of my comfort zone to vote for an inexperienced, unqualified, and duplicitous candidate.

I would have happily given you the LOTR trilology……..LOTR, yawn. I’m not a fan. My sisters thought it would be so funny to actually acknowledge my 50th birthday. They singled me out at Christmas like I used to be singled out as a child. They handed me a gift from under the tree wrapped in Christmas paper and had me open it sitting center stage on a stool in front of everyone. It was the LOTR trilology. I smiled and said “Oh thanks, how sweet”, They kept on keeping on messing with me, but I never let on that I had no desire to have those DVDs, hell I already owned them thanks to my son. Finally my sister said “Come on, you once said you’d rather have your hair set on fire than sit through LOTRs again”. That’s when I realized it was all a joke…….as all my birthdays have been my entire life. That’s what happens when you’re born too close to Christmas…….technically I’m a Festivus baby.

So I have a brand new unopened set I would have gladly given you for free. I have a boat load of DVDs I’ll be getting rid of soon. Hubby is putting together a home theater computer right now. Once it’s all set up he’ll load all our DVDs on to it, then back it up and according to him we can then get rid of all of our DVDs!!! I have a LOT of DVDs. I can’t wait to clear all of them out of my house!

Cool. I like the blurb about the author:

Oleg Atbashian, a writer and graphic artist from the former USSR, is the author of Shakedown Socialism, of which David Horowitz said, “I hope everyone reads this book.” In 1994 he moved to the U.S. with the hope of living in a country ruled by reason and common sense, appreciative of its freedoms and prosperity. To his dismay, he discovered a nation deeply infected by the leftist disease of “progressivism” that was arresting true societal progress. Oleg is the creator of a satirical website ThePeoplesCube.com, which Rush Limbaugh described on his show as “a Stalinist version of The Onion.”

Yeah two Christian themed movies did very well at the box office this weekend.
Igrew up very Catholic and endured the nuns. I am thankful so many of my. College friends are absurdly successful but I wouldn’t trade places.
I think progressives sometimes confuse guilt and shame or think they are synonymous.

    • WMCB says:

Well, if we are speaking of spiritual life, mine changed drastically once I read some early Church Fathers and figured out that sin is an existential issue, not a legal one. The modern Church has too much painted things in judicial terms, but that was never the focus of Christ or the apostles. It’s a matter of “what sort of being am I becoming?

The early church viewed self-mastery in much the way Buddhists do: as a matter of enlightenment and not being mere slaves to base reactions, not a “icky, dirty, bad” matter. Guilt is meant to be a inner corrective tool, alerting us to realign our perspective, not a constant wallowing.

      • John Denney says:

Jesus taught His disciples to pray, “Thy will be done,”, and exemplified it Himself at Gethsemane when He prayed saying, “Yet, not My will be done, but Thy will be done.”
Anyone who has raised kids knows that we’re all born wanting not, “Thy will be done”, but rather, “My will be done.”
Eve chose to believe the serpent, who spoke evil of God, rather than believing God, and so in her action of eating the forbidden fruit, declared, “Not thy will be done, but My will be done!”
        And what is His will?
When Jesus was asked what the greatest commandment was, He replied, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength, and a second commandment is like it: you shall love your neighbor as yourself. Upon these two rest the entire Law and the Prophets.”

Love LOTR. Read the books, saw the movies in the theater, got the blue ray set for Christmas from my wife and son. Exquisite beauty contrasted with horrible ugliness, both internal and external.
By the end, the members of the Fellowship of the Ring all loved each other dearly, even the elf and the dwarf, despite traditional hatred between their people. Great movie for young men these days to show them the ideal of brotherly love.
