HBO Free Weekend/Binge-Watching Game of Thrones

daenarys

HBO had a free weekend this past weekend and they also ran a Game of Thrones marathon. I DVR’ed the entire series (including the season 4 premiere) as well as about 20 full length movies.

Needless to say, my weekend wasn’t exactly what you would call “productive.” That’s why I’m posting another open thread.

Besides, I didn’t want to do another Mozilla post.

Liked this conclusion about what Ben was getting at:

The post expands on that topic, but it boils down to this: Because Mozilla employees are activists, they cannot be expected to cope in an environment that tolerates diversity of thought.

I need to be honest, I haven’t read the link. BUT, last week on Chicago news-radio, they reported that JJJ wanted to move to another prison – one that has a drug and ETOH abuse program —- because he could reduce his prison time by 6 months.
It’s always the same old, same old with these guys. Punish everyone but me…. because mental health issues.

Chuck Schumer is such an idiot …..beating up on the Kochs is their new strategy to prove they’re to blame for Obama’s failed policies….or something. The Dems are such ninnies, liars and bullies.

Game of Thrones author George Martin now lives in Santa Fe and recently bought a little movie theater in a redevelopment area that some friends of mine from Indiana University opened many years ago. He apparently reopened it with a marathon showing of all of the Game of Episodes. there is also a big throne that everyone is getting their picture taken in.

Iam in need of extreme mental health intervention. Know not what compels me to say the things I do sometimes. Advise to not gush how hot you think the Koch brothers are to one’s rabid progressive friends. Reaction is priceless. Couple of liberal mental goliaths wished me dead. And I don’t think I have ever seen a picture of the Koch siblings. Getting an off the chart rise out of progs is easier than shooting fish in a barrel. Do they still make barrels of monkeys? Was never sure what I was to do with those little plastic critters.

According to that graph the % of uninsured is higher than when Obama took office.

Progressives are a lot like ferbies. They just spew nonsense while assuming so moral supiority. Against school vouchers but send there kids to 20k grade school. Moving to the tacky racist suburbs is out of the question..Just had an ugly exchange with two friends about Matthew Shepherd. Not really him but what he represents to them. I said should not you in your capacious heart have compassion for the guys who killed him. Were they not in agony themselves and driven blindly by emotion to commit violence against another person. They always seem to want to sing Kumbaya but only when they are leading.

Another thing that gets my goat(what does that even mean) is this desparate attempt to normalize homosexuality. It is not normal. I am a far cry from normal. Would not want to be if I could. Feels to me that there is some serious compensation taking place on the left. Ithink Modern Family is a scream. It is funny because it is well written and has real acting talent. Almost every show on ABC Family has a gay subplot. Maybe it is just my age but I find it insipid. Enough already. Again maybe it is my antiquity but I am not comfortabe letting my brat watch a TV show that has teachers sleeping with high school students. All I lknow that I can impart to my monster is that actions/decisions have consequences. These shows targeted to young girls glorify sexual freedom without any hint at the potentials.(Is potentials a word)

    • Falstaff says:

I’m outraged that left-handedness is considered normal. Everyone knows that southpaws are immoral and a danger to our children. You’re free to favor whichever hand you want in the privacy of your own home, but when you step into the public sphere you should follow common decency and favor the right hand. This is what Jesus intended for us all.

      • mothy67 says:

I am more than willing to evaluate my perceptions. I attempt to learn. If I err it is from an honest place. So tell my do you think a network with family in its name should show a 16 year old getting banged by her English teacher in a restaurant bathroom?

      • angienc says:

Not the correct analogy — the correct analogy is to declare that all right handed people are “left handaphobes” and must be banned from polite society.

I understand why you had a problem realizing your initial analogy was wrong — your a fucking racist moron.

      • mothy67 says:

My apologies if I was offensive. Seriously lack the energy to be offensive. I strive for honesty with my own thoughts. Might be epic fail. Sarcasm is way over rated. It is defense. Think it was Toni Morrison who nailed it with lay it all done sword and shield. I say lots of very banal things. Where I am with regards to my sexuality took me years decades to get to and sometimes I can be insensitive. Not my intention but that is no excuse for being callous. Love this blog because it is not an echo chamber. People here have some really strong opinions and rarely is anyone dismissive. Personally I am bored with the gay issues. Seems like it is everyday. Duck Dynasty, the NFL, Military, marriage, NBA, Mozilla, Chik fil -a. If I have become cold I might need to look at that. Snark doesn’t make me rethink a position — honesty does.

    • WMCB says:

People make two mistakes: 1) being outside the norm is horrible and forbidden and ought to be punished, or 2) being outside the norm ought to BE the norm, so let’s just tear down all norms. Both are dead wrong.

I tend to love TV shows that feature dysfunctional, misanthropic, slightly mad brilliant scientists, like House, or my current marathon of Fringe. Those sorts of people are valuable in the world. I never want to get rid of them. But an entire world populated by them would be a horror show. We need for the majority in society to be “normal”. Sorry, but we do.

      • mothy67 says:

I agree. I have said before a grew up pretty poor in high school we washed our clothes in the bathtub and ironed them dry. To this day my brothers are neat freaks. Iron everything. Think they always feel the need to not be the dirty poor kids. I am the gay one and I have not brushed my hair since the 80’s(curly so it just gets big) I often sniff my clothes before wearing. Iwill wear a pair of jeans til they walk themselves to the washer. Not my brothers. I treasure them but I do not get 7 different shampoos. My life would be so much less without the anal retentive freaks. I do not want them to be like me nor do I want to be like them.

      • elliesmom says:

        I miss House. 😦

Are you all aware that there exists no Stalking for Dummies book? As a former gay person I set my sights on Ann Coulter. Adore sassy bossy smart women. Yet I have no clue as to where to buy night vision goggles. Things I need to know before I go down this road. Can I fight a PFA and if we have never met can she even get a PFA. Too much work. Guess I will go back to the nontraditional lifestyle.

    Kurt Schlichter:

Can you feel the excitement? The Washington Post reports that all the important Republicans have decided that Jeb Bush is going to be our nominee in 2016. Phew, that’s a relief! If we had had a primary, we conservatives who actually do all the working and voting for the GOP might have had a say.

We sure can’t have that. In fact, this is the best news since the Establishment’s choice, President McCain, was reelected in 2012!

We conservatives need to understand that the rich donor/consultant class has only our best interests at heart. Sure, many of us second class Republicans are small business people or middle class parents struggling to make it in a country we built and defended. We feel the deck is stacked against us, and that our concerns are not only not shared by the GOP Establishment but are actively at odds with the wealthy elite that runs the party.

None of that is true. The truth is that we’re just stupid and selfish. Oh, and racist. Probably homophobic too. That includes gay conservatives.

    […]

We conservatives need to think of someone else for once. And those someones are the zillionaires who support Jeb Bush. What about their needs?

Plus, Jeb speaks Spanish! The GOP Establishment knows that this will totally make Hispanics vote for him, because as they all know from that one time they talked to a Hispanic, all Hispanics are the same and are totally impressed when an Anglo guy busts out with “¡Hola!”

And don’t bring up the fact that Ted Cruz’s Spanish-speaking doesn’t seem like a selling point to liberal Hispanics. Cruz doesn’t have nearly the level of Latin authenticity that Jeb brings to la mesa.

By the way – Jeb! Isn’t that the kind of name us NASCAR people like? Oh, and Jeb totally digs country music artists like Taylor Nelson and Willie Swift. He’s one of us!

I loved last week’s Watch-athon. I got to see the 2nd season of “The Network” and the last episode had Jeff Daniels’ character spouting off about what is expected of Republicans by progs and other D’s: bigotry, homophobia, war on the poor, misogyny, etc. I loved it. So happy that I finally got to see season 2.

Another article showing how the much ballyhooed “gender wage gap” is a crock.

Sorry, but once you control for individual choices like marriage, childcare, working fewer hours, choice of career, etc, the “gap” disappears. MOST of the gap has to do with married women with children who, even though they work, choose less demanding, more flexible, shorter-hours careers ON PURPOSE.

Basically same findings of several studies looking at academic positions in “hard” science. The time commitments for PhD, post doc., junior faculty positions eat up a woman’s reproductive and child rearing years and choices have to be made.

Have you watched Hemlock Grove on netflix? It is sort of horror but mostly a love story. Parents, siblings friends. Even pays homage to Wuthering Heights. Somewhat cheesy but I liked it. I am someone who thought the best part of Bareback Mountains was the Emilou Harriss song A love that will never grow old

Good for HBO, still not subscribing to them even for FREE. It’s the last link I have to the feminists (Amy Siskind led wing) who demanded they take Bill Maher off the air because he’s such a, wait for it, MISOGYNIST. HBO flipped her off with “CHANGE THE CHANNEL”. ..,and she did. End of HBO…and modern feminisim for me 😉

I think the biggest failure of the dims was when they told lifelong party members to shut up.OBama was chosen. After being told to shut up and sit down I got angry. Thenn it just got worse. No one dictates ho.w I think or feel. Respect Palin so much because she does not know her “place” Has any vp candidate ever had the influence of that woman? I disagree with her on several things but she won me over because she loves her kids. She could have cried victim but she didn’t she just keeps on going. I often drop to the ground kicking and screaming it is the end of the world with my brat. PITY parties are very boring. Perspective is what matters. You always have a choice in how you fit into the world. I remember being 3 and a half years old walking into my parents bedroom and crying that my chest hurt. The wires they put me back together with after open heart broke and tore through my skin. Not the best way to spend an evening. I do not remember the hurt but I will never erase the image of my parents going action movie crazy for their son. Palin seems to have some of that.

One ting that scares me about the government taki g over health care is that it leaves little room for a doctor’s discreatin. When I was a lad my cardioligist told me they are gonna want to cut you open. Say no. My heart makes a swishing sound. Always has Ticker is teflon and pig but it still keeps working. It was 1970 when I visited a children’s hospital for a stretch of ti.e. Doubt I would have had the character to pick up a cast aside little child had I not experienced my life.Love my brat and I oftdn thank god for allowing me to share my mistakes.
