Josh Marshall is a Liar

This is the kind of shit that pisses me off.

Dylan Scott at Toilet Paper Media:

Cruz Toys With The Idea Of Using Sebelius Replacement To Repeal Obamacare

Fox News gave Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) the opportunity Friday to say that he would use the confirmation of the next Health and Human Services Secretary as an instrument in his quixotic quest to repeal Obamacare.

He didn’t exactly say he would try to block the confirmation of Office of Management and Budget Director Sylvia Mathews Burwell, who was nominated to replace Kathleen Sebelius — but he didn’t exactly pass on it either.

“I think Burwell presents an ideal opportunity to examine the failures that are Obamacare. And four years ago, reasonable minds could have differed over whether this thing might work,” Cruz said. “Today, seeing the disaster, seeing the trainwreck that is Obamacare, in my view, it is the essence of pragmatism to acknowledge this thing isn’t working. We need to start over, repeal every word of it. Start over.”

Cruz’s options would appear limited, though, after Senate Democrats detonated the nuclear option on filibusters for confirmation votes.

Hoo boy, that Canadian-pretending-to-be-a-Texican Tea Party doofus sure doesn’t know much about the Constitution if he thinks he can use the confirmation process to repeal legislation! Besides, what does the appointment of a new Health and Human Services Secretary have to do with Obamacare?

Oh, wait.

I think Burwell presents an ideal opportunity to examine the failures that are Obamacare.

I guess when he says “examine the failures” he means “repeal.” In fact, that’s what he says a few sentences later:

We need to start over, repeal every word of it. Start over.

Only a complete fool would think that he meant something other than “repeal during the confirmation hearings”.

And you can’t tell me that this isn’t proof of Ted the Terrible’s evil intentions:

He didn’t exactly say he would try to block the confirmation of Office of Management and Budget Director Sylvia Mathews Burwell, who was nominated to replace Kathleen Sebelius — but he didn’t exactly pass on it either.

If that ain’t a smoking gun, what is? Besides that, what the hell does a nutjob Tea Partier like Ted Cruz know about the law?

Rafael Edward “Ted” Cruz (born December 22, 1970)[2] is the junior United States Senator for the state of Texas since 2013, and is a member of the Republican Party. He was Solicitor General of Texas from 2003 to May 2008, after being appointed by Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott.[2] He was the first Hispanic Solicitor General in Texas,[4] the youngest Solicitor General in the United States, and the longest-serving Solicitor General in Texas’ history. He was also the first Hispanic, and the first minority to be elected U.S. Senator from Texas.[5]

Between 1999 and 2003, Cruz served as the director of the Office of Policy Planning at the Federal Trade Commission, an Associate Deputy Attorney General at the United States Department of Justice, and as Domestic Policy Advisor to U.S. President George W. Bush on the 2000 Bush-Cheney campaign. In addition, Cruz was an Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of Texas School of Law in Austin, where he taught U.S. Supreme Court litigation, from 2004 to 2009.

Okay, maybe he knows a little about the law.

Seriously though, this shit really does piss me off. If you only read tweets and headlines you would be led to believe that Ted Cruz is saying and doing some really crazy things. It’s part of a deliberate campaign to palinize Cruz prior to the 2016 elections. It’s what they used to call “the politics of personal destruction.”

There is no reasonable way to extract “Ted Cruz thinks confirmation hearings good opportunity to force repeal of Obamacare” from what Cruz actually said.

That makes Josh Marshall’s tweet a lie, and it makes Josh Marshall a liar.

Ted Cruz is a U.S. Senator with higher aspirations. He’s fair game for inquiry and criticism. Everyone has a right to an opinion about him, but no one has a right to make shit up.

The more progs complain about Cruz the more people will read about him in Wiki, et al. The more they read, the more they’ll like him. Who knew before this he was brilliant at Hahvahd Law? Tell more lies, guys.

  2. Lulu says:

Cruz’s example is a hard one for well educated rapidly aging hipsters to live up to. Not only is the propaganda to take him out but there is a large dollop of jealousy. Cruz doesn’t know his place just like Palin but Cruz has the elite education so he is a class traitor too. And Cruz’s wife is a VP for Goldman Saks in Houston which makes elite wannabes drool.

OT but fun, and stolen from SDA. The mule or mules in this video is (are) mind-blowing.
I’ve owned and worked with a “cutting horse” in US style cattle operations, but the way mules work in this video beats all, in my book.

    • 49erDweet says:

The cattle are Brahma. The calves are being routinely checked over, treated, tagged and maybe castrated. The mamas don’t like it. And the mule seems to sense exactly how/when to keep mama at bay.

I could not get beyond the use of quixotic in the first paragraph. What? In the manner of Don Quixote. Idealist. Hopeless romantic. Poor choice. If the term was used to paint him negatively it does not work. Makes him more esteemable. Seinfeld always reminded me of it.
And did Obama really say that history does not just move forward but backwards and sideways. That makes no sense to me. How can Putin be on the wrong side of something that keeps moving?
What does it mean? Did he mean to say our perception of history changes when we view if from different perspectives? How many of the smarties read the speech and saw nothing wrong?

    • Constance says:

“And did Obama really say that history does not just move forward but backwards and sideways”
I’m sure Obama means Progs can and will rewrite established history with propaganda.

I wonder am i delusional or do the progressives seem to be causing their own implosion– daily. The idiot running against Cantor being very rude to Greta. She handled it with aplomb. Freshman year college teaches you to win an argument give your opponent some credit. He just kept on insulting. Are insults and attacks all they have? My favorite way to learn is through discourse. If someone has passion and commitment I will learn more from them in a debate than I will get out of college class. I have an argument with Camille Paglia almost every time I read her. We have never actually met but she is a bit bossy and she makes me think. Seems there is no exchange today. Color the Tea Party bad and noone ever says why. FYI fish really do not need bicycles.

    • Constance says:

What the Progs do would cause an implosion if Republicans had a workable plan but sadly most of them only want power for powers sake too. Neither party gives a rats ass about our country or The People. Neither party has any plan but to screw their share of political groupies who like winners and provide their supporters with lucrative government contracts.

We were out in the car today, and the radio was tuned to NPR. Elliesdad refuses to acknowledge it leans left. They were discussing Sylvia Burwell, Sebelius’s replacement nominee. While listing her bona fides, they mentioned she sat on the board of the Gates Foundation, but left her position on the WalMart Foundation board out. Since that was her most recent post before joining the OMB, it seemed to me it was more important to her resume. Elliesdad didn’t see that leaving it out was indicative of any bias. He’s a highly educated, usually bright man. When I suggested if a Republican had WalMart in her resume, it would be the first thing they mentioned, he still didn’t see that as bias. As long as they weren’t lying, it was “fair and balanced”. I’m being “petty”.

    • Lulu says:

Running a foundation for billionaires is not the same as running an enormous failing bureaucracy that the public hates. She is going to find that going to Harvard and knowing Belinda Gates is not very good training for this job.

    • Constance says:

Well you have to give NPR credit they always provide a committed Prog to tell their audience what Republicans think and what Republican motives are. The fact that they seldom have Republicans talk for themselves is only because Progs are so much smarter and they want only the smartest people on their shows, I’m sure it couldn’t be bias!

I used to contribute to NPR but now I can barely listen.

    I need some serious legal/ parent/teacher advice.
A seven year old girl came up to me and said you can never depend on a man. SZhe aid he was not there was I was born he does not call me when I am sick. Really do not the child but it broke my heart. I cannot fix it. I grew up in that world and I do not know how to protect her. I tried the suicide thing once a few years ago so I am barred from directly helping her. I do not know who to turn to but I cannot ignore. What do I do. Kid is in pain. A letter to the school? Welfare? I am cray cay when it comes to Shayla and I think the child wants someone to be concerned about her. I can do nothing a bunch of pills and a gallon of vodka and suiciadal justification to a shrink forbid me from working with a kid. Many years ago. Just a very sad person. You move on but this young girl is suffering. I refuse to ignore. NO clue how to address. See something say something.

    • angienc says:

Call your local Child Protection Services & report your concerns. They should dispatch a social worker to investigate her home situation.

      • mothy67 says:

Last thing I want. Single mother waitress two kids I am wondering if a letter to the school might be better. Kid is not abused or dirty but she is failing in school. What prompts a 7 year old to utter such things. I cannot unring that bell. Thnk I will just broach the school. Actually gonna have my attorney do it. Safer. Kid is 7 maybe 8 too young to give up on. Aware that going to the school shows my hypocrisy on governnment.

        • The Klown says:

Your best option is to cut out any middlemen and make an anonymous tip to the local Child Protective Services. Keep it very factual and just tell them you are concerned. They will do a welfare check. The worker will decide if any action is appropriate.

There is no liability for you if they under/overreact. You will have done the best that you can do.

          • mothy67 says:

I have to wait til Monday to do anything. It feels to me the kid is going nowhere. is it not my place to say anything? She is fed and clothed and not physically abused and I am sure her mother is doing what she can. I have a physical fence and an invisible fence no way my dogs got out. yet she showed up at the door with my dog saying she found her. Fence was bent. I do not take my eyes off my brat in the park. I impose structure. I get a sense that this little person gets none of that. Kids want it. hell if my critter is in the backyard I am on the deck watching. She has stolen and broken some things. She took Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets which is my girls favorite. She has some anger. I get that. I am an asshole, but I do my best with my baby. I think the little girl is finding her place in the world and she wants a male figure to dote on her. I cannot fix her situation but I think it would be inhuman to just walk away and do nothing. Imagine a 7 year old walking up to you in a playground after school when every other kid has a parent there watching their kid this little girl on her own says to me you can never trust a man. He was not there when I was born He is not there when I am sick. Hurts my head to ponder the options but I hear her pain. I am not equipped to deal but I doubt social services is either. Sucks because being a flaming homosexual should exempt me from this. I do not even like kids. made the mistake of picking up my brat one day at a welfare day care. She never went back.

  11. angienc says:

That “So-Cal Blacklisted & Loving It” poster of Cruz is hilarious. I actually think it makes him “cooler” with the kids.

My mom’s dishwasher died. It was over 20 years old.

So I went with her to Sears to pick out a new one. Delivery was free but they wanted $150 to install. Since I installed the old one and I recalled it was fairly easy I figured I could probably handle installing the new one.

I knew I was in trouble when I pulled off the cover plate and realized that nothing looked familiar under there. Everything was covered by 20+ years of crud and corrosion.

Three hours later I have successfully removed the old one. Tomorrow I will start on installing the new one.

Watched Ruthless People tonight on Amazon. Funny. had never seen it before. Ted Cruz and young Jeff Daniels have a similar look. Never seen Drowning Mona and I know it got terrible reviews but it looks tempting.
