John Kerry – The Rodney Dangerfield of Diplomacy

The facial expressions tell the story

The facial expressions tell the story

From the Beeb:

Egypt media applaud tough security check on John Kerry

A highly unusual security check that US Secretary of State John Kerry and his senior aides were subjected to at the presidential palace in Cairo before meeting Egyptian President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi has made a splash in the local press.

The top US diplomat is usually treated with every courtesy in Cairo, but the front-page coverage in both private and state-owned papers hovers between factual reports and applause, describing the check with a hand-held metal detector as a “surprise” and saying that Mr Kerry had had to “comply” with orders of the security officers.

A note of pride can also be detected in the headlines.

“Checking Kerry at the doors of ‘al-Ittihadiyah’,” announces private daily Al-Tahrir. The report mentions twice that “Kerry and his team complied” with the procedures.

Similarly, privately-owned daily Al-Dustur’s headline proclaims in red letters: “A heavy surprise: John Kerry subject to strict inspection procedures before his meeting with Al-Sisi”.

The paper complements the report with a photo showing Kerry passing through the security scanner at the doors of Al-Ittihadiyah Palace.

And, again in red ink, private daily Al-Yawm al-Sabi adds to its headline: “Bravo Sisi”

For most of us emptying our pockets and passing thru metal detectors at security checkpoints at airports, sporting events and government buildings is just one of the minor hassles of modern life. But VIP types usually get to skip such inconveniences.

I’m guessing that what happened in Cairo was no coincidence. It was a not-so-subtle way of sending a message. As was the look on Benjamin Netanyahu’s face when Kerry arrived in Israel.

What makes this significant is that both Egypt and Israel are our allies. Our friends don’t respect us and our enemies don’t fear us. These are dangerous times indeed.

Meanwhile, Jews in Europe and America are being attacked by “pro-Palestinian protesters”, most of whom are Muslims. Yesterday they rushed onto the field at a soccer game and attacked the players of a Jewish team. So why are so many news outlets reluctant to identify the attackers?

A couple more planes got shot down over Ukraine yesterday. Fighting continues in Iraq. A commercial jet liner has disappeared over Africa somewhere. Scandalpalooza keeps going in Washington D.C. like the Energizer Bunny.

So where in the world is Barack Obama? He’s in California on a west coast fundraising tour!

We are so fucked.

I have to admit I’m conflicted. Part of me wants Obama to get off his ass and DO SOMETHING.

The rest of me is afraid he will.

    • Constance says:

That’s the truth! He wouldn’t know what to do if he were in DC. Doing nothing may be the best we can hope for from Obama. But I am really surprised that who ever pushed him to the front of the line didn’t have a plan and adviser for world affairs. I guess we know Halliburton doesn’t own him.

  2. DeniseVB says:

What the heck is this woman talking about ?

    • elliesmom says:

I think we know where Michelle stands on Hillary 2016. Or is she just quelling rumors she’s going to run herself.? I do find her entertaining in a watching a train wreck kind of way.

      • DeniseVB says:

If it’s Hillary she’s talkng about then the Warren Wing of the Dem Party’s gotten to her. 😉

        • Anthony says:

Actually, I believe its the other way around. Valjar’s minions have been championing Warren for months now, with Mika Brzezinski leading the pack. FLOTUS is only “picking up the rear” (leading from behind?) by weighing in on this one

    • Kathy says:

Does she mean we should have multiple families in the White House? Bizarre–it may be better if he doesn’t engage but the problem is his ‘helpers’ aren’t real sharp. In fact, they appear juvenile.

      • DeniseVB says:

LOL, I think it was Gutfeld who suggested with wall to wall bunkbeds we could house hundreds of those illegal alien families in the Big White 🙂

  3. I was watching morning Joe this morning and even the lefties over there are echoing your sentiments. When you’ve lost Mika, your ass is really in trouble…..

    • The Klown says:

At some point you stop trying to save a sinking ship and start heading for the lifeboats.

      • Lulu says:

They have to do it to save “Progressivism” if it isn’t already too late. Ideologues will choose the ideology over the leader every time. Obama is becoming the poster boy for cascading failure. I still think he will quit next year after the Repubs overrun the Senate. He already said it would be unbearable for him with a full Repub congress so things will only get harder and he doesn’t do hard. This is why he needs a house NOW in a gated community among friends.

    • DeniseVB says:

I think they’ve lost Andrea Mitchell too.

  4. The Klown says:

This was a thing of beauty:

    • Somebody says:

I know someone with almost 40 years at the IRS. Recently this person was at a meeting or some kind of event where Koskinen was, I think he addressed employees or a group of them anyway. The person told me that they were taken aback by his partisan and political nature, he didn’t try to hide anything. BTW the person telling me this is a lifelong dem. The person told me that Koskinen was so political that it was very disconcerting and they felt quite uncomfortable, as did others. The person went on to tell me that in their entire 40 years they’d never, ever seen or heard a commissioner or assistant commissioner speak in such a manner.

  5. The Klown says:

Compare and contrast the tone of these two interviews:

    • DandyTIger says:

I think it’s time for the men in white suits carrying straight jackets to show up and take these people away. And of course saying “white suits” to these insane people will mean something entirely different, which is reason enough for the padded cells.

  6. DeniseVB says:

If Kerry is Rodney, then Obama’s working on his “Shecky” for their 2016 Borscht Belt Tour.

LackWit in Chief outwitted by Ted Cruz : After Senator Ted Cruz’s warning that he would hold all State Department nominees until questions were answered about the political motive behind the FAA’s travel ban on Israel… the FAA suddenly reversed itself.

These were the 5 questions that Senator Cruz wanted answered.

Was this decision a political decision driven by the White House? For instance, who was this decision made by – a career official, a political appointee, or someone else (at the FAA, State Department or White House?)

If the FAA’s decision was based on airline safety, why was Israel singled out, when flights would be permitted into Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Yemen?

What was the FAA’s ‘safety’ analysis that led to prohibiting flights to Israel, while still permitting flights to Ukraine—where a commercial airline flight was just shot down with a BUK missile?

What specific communications occurred between the FAA and the White House? And the State Department? Why were any such communications necessary, if this was purely about airline safety?

Was this a safety issue, or was it using a federal regulatory agency to punish Israel to try to force them to comply with Secretary Kerry’s demand that Israel stop their military effort to take out Hamas’s rocket capacity?

Instead of providing answers, the FAA lifted the ban.

    Obama Fatigue

“Signs of donor fatigue at Obama’s Bay Area fundraisers.”
Low turn out and donors balking at asked for donations, bargain down the cost to see Obama.
Even his worshiping sycophants are sick and tired of him.

Of course, he barred press from the question and answer sessions.

Nasty lives only in his little head.

    • DandyTIger says:

And they gave this yahoo his own column at the NYT.

    • WMCB says:

Another word for “attitudes” is “the thoughts in peoples heads”. So he is just admitting to a desire to be ruthless thought police. Got it. Glad that’s clear.

    • WMCB says:

Here’s the deal. Bigots totally controlling a society is a bad thing. But a few ones on the fringes of society is really not worth witch-hunting (which is what “stamp out every vestige” is.)

Similarly, I don’t think unbridled in-your-face licentiousness, hetero or homo, is good for a stable society. That doesn’t mean “go hunt down every adulterer”. Because see, WITCHHUNT. No like.

I’m a fan of encouraging a generally moral society (and not being a hateful bigot is indeed a form of morality.) But I am not a fan of witchhunts, from anyone.

Is why the whole gay cake wars made me roll my eyes. Look, if that community had a serious bigotry problem, hundreds of businesses refusing to serve gays? Then fine, make a big stink. But deliberately seeking out the one dickhead who won’t bake the cake when hundreds of others would gladly do so is just petty, IMO. Legally correct? Sure. But still petty.

A society that immediately rushes to GOVT GUN TO THE HEAD to solve every single minor personal cultural clash is a fucking unhealthy society. Period. We are a pack of children running to Daddy every time we can’t deal with our brother took our toy. NOT a healthy society. At all.

      • WMCB says:

This gets back to the whole “Progs are the New Puritans” idea. The Puritans problem wasn’t that they desired a generally moral society (that’s fine). Is that they became rigid legalistic fanatics about it.

The Progs are NO different. They are just fanatical overboard zealots about a different facet of morality (i.e. equality, etc, which is also fine in itself).

      • DandyTIger says:

It’s childish, feeewings based, and insane. The entire left wing is like that kid played by Billy Mumy in the Twilight Zone, super powers but a little kid, so based on childish feelings and desires he ruthlessly ruled the town.

        • WMCB says:

Get over yourself, life isn’t perfect, the law can’t solve every interpersonal issue (nor should it), and let’s only use the govt to prevent gross abuses, and figure out the rest as a society, as an organic culture, like FUCKING ADULTS. That’s pretty much my view.

          • WMCB says:

But when I say “The govt shouldn’t really care whether one dude baked a cake for the gays” people hear “society shouldn’t care.” NO. NONONO! Society and govt are not the same thing. There are all sorts of things that society ought to care about, approve or disapprove. That’s not the same thing as govt force. We have completely lost any sense of society existing as a separate thing from govt in this country. “Society ought to do X” automatically means “Govt ought to do X” to way too many people.

      • foxyladi14 says:

        honk honk

        • Underwhelmed says:

The way it should work is, bakery doesn’t want to bake for a gay wedding. That fact is publicised. The public then decides if they want to shop there or not. Social pressure dictates outcome. It’s an uncomfortable concept, I know. It gives people permission to be bigoted. But if customers can choose not to purchase from a shop they don’t like, then shops should be able to not serve people they don’t like. Because then the option is for gay bakers to start up their own shop and be so great at it, they put the other guys out of business.

          • WMCB says:

I actually have sympathy for getting govt involved if it’s widespread serious oppression. But for every baker? Society can handle that, thanks.

You cannot have a free country and expect A LAW to address every single possible problem. You just can’t. Laws suck at the micro level. They don’t have enough flex. Demanding !!!A LAW!!! for everything under the sun is basically saying, “Enslave me.”

  17. DeniseVB says:

Make the stupid stop! You’d think birth control was banned or something …. idiots….stop defining and cheapening feminism with your vaginas ! Ugh /rant

    • lyn says:

I am more than my lady parts.

      • DeniseVB says:

Even after my tubes were tied I had to go back on BC because of some lady problems. My doctor prescribed the pill for me to control it and the pharmacist filled the prescription. It’s what doctors/pharmas used to be able to do routinely. What has changed ? Well, other than my leaving the Catholic Church because they banned ANY form of BC at the time. And if a phamacist wouldn’t fill a script for religious reasons, I changed him too. Choices ! We’re free to make them 😉

    • elliesmom says:

Like Lena Dunham can’t afford $10 a month for birth control pills.

    • catarina says:

      Dearest Lena,
If your dumb show gets canceled (that would be most awesome, IMO) and you are forced to get a job at Hobby Lobby, your birth control pills would be covered under their health plan. Yes, really!
They won’t let you walk around naked, though, so (thankfully) that would have to change.
But the pills are covered, as are 15 or so other forms of birth control. Go figure.
Now stop making shit up. You are lying to the lo-fo’s and surely you know it.
      #eyebleach #LenaLies.

      • DeniseVB says:

Why doesn’t this wing of Hollywood Liberal Outrage set up funds to provide FREE contraception? People would be free to donate to it, but that’s not how liberals roll these days. All talk, and no action. Like our Prezzy 😉 #ThanksObama

      • WMCB says:

What’s that you say? That land was set aside to give to a group who was almost wiped out? Pshaw! Gives them no right to be an apartheid state. Keeping the reservations Indian-controlled is flat racist. Right?

          • WMCB says:

You realize that you have to have X amount of native american blood, be on the rolls, to even live there. Fucking racist aparthied state.

          • WMCB says:

What’s that you say? Reservations are a special situation, because if they weren’t allowed to be protective of their people/culture they would be overwhlemed and wiped out? In a couple of decades, those native lands and their ruling councils would be indistinguishable from the surrounding majority culture?

            Yes! EXAAAAAAACTLY.

          • DandyTIger says:

You have them in a logical headlock.

  20. The Klown says:
  21. WMCB says:

Dems are moral posturing again. And getting roundly mocked for it.

  22. WMCB says:

    • DandyTIger says:

You were oppressed and you’ve been brainwashed by your oppressors. Clearly.

    • cynic says:

My son was only 13 when he started detasseling corn, and did this for several summers. One year, he only did it for a couple of weeks because they hired illegals.

One summer, he bought himself a portable tv, and a playstation.

    • Constance says:

I picked strawberries and raspberries for 50 cents a flat and I had to pay my own ferry fare to get to the field. I was too tired to get into trouble when I got home and I bought fabric and sewed some school clothes for myself. I’m really good at sewing so my home made clothes looked better than most of the store bought stuff.

      • WMCB says:

One of the worst things a minimum wage does is keep teenagers from getting any job experience.

    • elliesmom says:

My dad sent us out into the field to pick vegetables and feed the animals, we got to say, “Yay! We’re going to eat!”

      • cynic says:

I babysat three neighbor kids M-F for a summer, and even potty trained one of them, for $.50 per hour. It was the summer that I was entering the 8th grade, and used all my money to pay for my school clothes.

      • Lulu says:

I had to do double entry bookkeeping in ledgers. I think I started when I was ten for my grandmother. She would give me a dollar if I was very neat. Then we would eat coconut cake and drink coffee. The next summer I learned how to use the old ten key.

  25. WMCB says:

Ow. That left a mark. (In tweet above she has an Israeli/American flag image.)

  26. WMCB says:

But the feminists are too busy obsessing over a hashtag, “someone called me fat”, and Hobby Lobby to raise much ire about this: https://twitter.com/DavidLimbaugh/status/492449089972621312

  29. WMCB says:

I keep seeing these over and over. Hamas advocates keep posting pics of Syrian atrocities, saying it’s Israel. I’ve seen at least three, just this week.

  30. WMCB says:

It’s kind of hard not to kill any “civilians”, when Hamas deliberately disguises its fighters as “civilians”.

    • lildoggy4u says:

Hey WMCB, I had tried multiple times to watch that youtube but it starts and then says error occurred. Can’t help but wonder if its being censored?
