I remember Joan from when she was guest hosting the Tonight Show.

I’m sad about this — especially as it started from a routine vocal chord surgery — she was just on TV last week yuking it up for cripesssake! She is irreplaceable.

    • votermom says:

At least it wasn’t a long painful illness. I will miss her though.

    • 49erDweet says:

She had to be a very smart lady (bc humor requires IQ) and I always thought was classy, too, the way she played herself down. RIP classy smart lady.

    • The Klown says:

My mom had endoscopy a few months ago, for GERD. It was done at one of those out-patient “surgical center” places.

      She had no problems.

      • 49erDweet says:

Hope your mom is doing OK. Some months that valley air is sorta stale.
Rivers was 3 years younger, so this has my attention. I still rehearse and sing at least 9 songs (with a chorus and orchestra) every Sunday, so vocal cords are already on my mind, and next week I’m auditioning to be a lead vocalist.

My favorite Joan Rivers quote- “I hate housework! You make the beds, you do the dishes and six months later you have to start all over again.”

Watching Don’t Start with Me on Netflix. She was 78 when she filmed it.

  8. Ann says:

Many moons ago she was touring with David Brenner (who passed away earlier this year). I was a fan of his, so went to the show to see him. She was the one that held the crowd and had them in stitches (myself included). She certainly made a fan of me with that performance.

    She will be missed.

I saw Joan Rivers many years ago on stage in Los Vegas. She was so funny that over 40 years later I still remember some of her jokes.
    may she rest in peace
Thank you for the laughter Miss Rivers

  11. NewOrleans says:

My first Joan experience happened in 1978 at a showing of her film ‘Rabbit Test.’ Totally inappropriate material for a 12 year old, but I fell in love with her that day. She corrupted me in the best way possible – and I will always thank her for that. She will be greatly missed.

    • DeniseVB says:

Joan wrote The Girl Most Likely (1973) but Imdb doesn’t have a trailer, I think it was a tv movie? I did find it on youtube in five 14 minute parts. It starred Stockard Channing as a ugly duckling turned into a swan and revenge on her bullies. Funny, dark and Classic Joan-isms.

      • NewOrleans says:

Thanks, Denise!. I’ve never heard of that movie. Stockard & Joan are a great combo, so it’s off to YouTube I go.

        • DeniseVB says:

I watched it all on youtube last night. All I could think of is that Joan was way ahead of her time, this was Mean Girls circa ’70’s, only the victim of the bullying snuffed them out. So UN-PC and I loved it.

      • Constance says:

I’ve got to see that! Funny revenge is my cup of tea. I loved Joan and I even watched her on the shopping network. I’m glad she didn’t suffer a long decline. She will be missed.

Joan on Jimmy Fallon last March …. “I’m so old number 1 on my Bucket List is wake-up” . Great segment, Jimmy, Russell Crowe and the band were all face-palming, Great Joan, R.I.P.

Joan was instrumental in the battle for late night in the late 80’s and early 90’s. In 1986 she left the Tonight Show when she learned that she was not on the short list to replace Carson and her guest host contract was turning into a year-to-year commitment. Her departure led the way for Jay Leno, who would eventually maneuver the show away from a rival twice.

My mother and I saw her many years ago in NYC. Loved her act and most of the jokes. Now she’ll be performing in heaven getting as many laughs up there as she did down here.
    RIP Joan

  22. leslie says:

Can you imagine what heaven will be like with Robin Williams and Joan Rivers up there?
What a happy, happy place it must be right now!
    RIP Joan Rivers.

  23. Kathy says:

In the early Eighties, my husband and I saw her shopping in a book store in Las Vegas. My husband ran up to her and started chatting (he talks to everybody) and she was super nice–almost like running into a neighbor.

  24. swanspirit says:

I was so sad when Robin Williams passed , but losing Joan feels like losing a sister . Her humor was so intimately hilarious for women . I adored her . She was a Goddess . Baubo , the Belly Goddess

Baubo is the little-known goddess of jests, mirth, bawdy humor and belly laughs! Accounts of Baubo are infrequent, but the most popular myth involves her cheering up Demeter, goddess of the harvest. Demeter is said to have been inconsolable at the loss of her daughter Persephone who was kidnapped by Hades to the underworld. In her grief, she wandered the earth in mourning, abandoning her harvest duties. Arriving at the city Eleusis, the depressed goddess is unable to have her spirits lifted by the Eleusians, until she encounters the servant, Baubo. There, Baubo performs jests and tells the goddess bawdy jokes and dances a lewd dance, lifting her skirts to reveal her awesome lady-parts! The goddess responded with a hearty belly-laugh to these antics, and her spirits and confidence were lifted enough to persuade Zeus to have Hades release Persephone. Fertility and abundance were restored to the earth!

His FATHER is working at Mass General! WTF? Dear old dad needs to be gone over with a microscope to see why he produced a murderous radical. And what the hell HE is up to at that hospital. There used to be social costs to people who did not socialize and assimilate their children and produced monsters. That needs to be applied here also. Did he send anymore terrorists out of his home? Does Boston think it is cool having freaks like this taking care of people’s health? Bombers in their midst and now this? What is the matter with Boston? instead of their snotty what is the matter with Kansas? applies here.

Radical chic is not so chic anymore. Insane Nigerian muslim converts throwing ISIS finger signs cutting off little old Italian ladies heads in London isn’t either. How could the elites, our betters, be so wrong? Because they are fucking dumbasses that is how.

        • Constance says:

Our Elitists are inbred and they have legacy status to acquire their Ivy Indoctrination. They live in gated communities. They are completely out of touch with reality. Their only religion is faith in bizarre social theories. When reality bumps up against their articles of faith they can’t cope and just withdraw.

  26. kanaughty says:

Oh god mary landreau’s peeps just called my cell phone. I said i don’t even know if i will be here to vote that week, i might be moving. But also not sure if i would vote for her. Though i won’t. I said big issues are the flood insurance crisis and healthcare. He didn’t even talk about healthcare when i said this. basically in my mind, they want to ignore that she is all for it even though it is crap as is. The flood insurance issue is real here because basically people are having problems selling their houses because the flood insurance has priced people out of purchasing these homes. My landlord said his house insurance has went up 300% in the last 2 years. And we a block near the river levy, the natural levy, so we aren’t in the bowl the way other neighborhoods are (most likely actually at sea level and not below). So i can’t imagine the price of flood insurance the farther away from the levy tge property gets. To shorten what i am worried about is that people have homes they won’t be able to sell in the future if they ever want to move, have to move, or it becomes too expensive to pay for its insurance, and people right now are basically taking a bigger risk then anywahere else in the country if they buy a home right now here because the flood insurance price is going to get out of control. It is like the whole variable rate mortgage crisis we kust went through. So i see lots of foreclosures happening here in the future.
