FacePalm Friday – Obama’s New Ebola Czar Is A Political Hack

The euphoric haze/alcohol buzz from last night is gone:

New Ebola Czar Ron Klain Is A Long-Time Lobbyist, Democratic Operative

Earlier today, President Barack Obama announced that he would be appointing Ron Klain as an additional Ebola czar (he already had one before today). If Ron Klain sounds familiar to you, it’s because he has a long political pedigree. He has no medical, scientific, or federal agency administrative expertise, but he has a whole lot of political experience.

In January of 2011, Klain stepped down as chief of staff for Vice President Joe Biden. Before that, Ron Klain was a well-connected Washington lobbyist. According to Senate lobbying disclosure records, Klain’s clients included Fannie Mae, U.S. Airways, Time Warner, CIGNA, and Imclone.

Klain also worked as chief of staff for former Vice President Al Gore, Janet Reno, the Senate Democratic Leadership Committee, and the Senate Judiciary Committee. But that’s not all! Ron Klain did debate prep for both Obama and former president Bill Clinton. And if that weren’t enough, Klain was also general counsel of Al Gore’s election recount committee in 2000.

Ron Klain has a lot of experience. Unfortunately, absolutely none of it is related to public health, epidemiology, or cross-agency administration.

That Obama would appoint a long-time Democratic operative with zero public health or federal administrative experience tells us everything we need to know about how Obama views the Ebola panic: Ebola is a political problem for the White House, not a public health problem for the nation.

A far-fetched plot device in sci-fi and horror films is where the heroes are trying to warn everyone that bad things are happening and getting worse but the government is more interested in covering their asses than protecting the public. I guess it’s not so far-fetched after all.

If I was looking for an Ebola Czar one of the first names on my list would be Ben Carson. Too bad C. Everett Koop isn’t around anymore.

We need someone who will do and say what needs to be done and said, and the hell with poll numbers or political spin.

Instead, we got a political hack.

We are so fucked.

Czars belong in the old Soviet Union! Enough of these political czars! Off with their creds!

    • votermom says:

It’s a very commie/nazi thing to do. Have a crisis? Appoint a loyal yes man to take care of it instead of someone qualified.

    • Falstaff says:

Um…. the Tsar, or Czar was the emperor. The Bolsheviks (founders of the Soviet Union) killed the last Tsar and his family. So, no, the Tsar doesn’t belong in the old CCCP.

  2. jeffhas says:

Sounds like Ron’s experience is all behind the scenes – let’s see how he does under the glare of the public eye. Ordinarily this might be really fun to watch… if actual lives weren’t at stake.

  3. HELENK3 says:

just the fact that he will report to susan rice says it all.
as I said down below “could he spit in our faces any more?”

  4. HELENK3 says:

    Iowa Hawk

“Oh my God, this man is sick! Quick, someone fetch a lawyer!”

  5. Constance says:

And what about our poor troops who are dumped into Ebola land with a mission to do what? I hear they are being housed in hotels with the general population which have to be germ infested. Because recovered male Ebola patients carry the virus in their semen for up to 90 days, the sex industry workers will all be infected. In fact contact with a sex industry worker is likely how the NBC guy got Ebola but they won’t find that out through their health questioners. This just makes me furious. Wasting our young peoples lives when they signed up to defend the USA. And all this while refusing to enforce the border with Mexico!

    • Constance says:

Or, you know, maybe the NBC guy did get Ebola washing a car. But then what does that say about how long the virus is living on surfaces like a car.

    • HELENK3 says:

hey they got 4 hours training to deal with ebola, what more do you want?/s

    • Constance says:

You know why didn’t they raise a SPECIAL voluntary peace corps from the Ivy indoctrinated to go over and help in Ebola land? This is a perfect opportunity for a demonstration of Prog faith. Stand up, volunteer Progs!

  6. Constance says:

Off topic: Remember when I was in a snit a couple months ago when the idiots who run Seattle approved a gradually enforced $15.00 and hour wage? I was mad because my gym changed their hours to something like 6am to 10:00am and 4:00pm to 8pm and my favorite “egg and turkey house” limited their hours to 7am to 3pm? Well just to update you the Egg and Turkey house is now out of business. I’m surprised the gym lasted this long but I get the feeling their days are numbered too. So how many people lost their jobs? I bet 30 and the restaurant store front is now for rent.

    • HELENK3 says:

I am not sure if Horn and Hardart was just an eastern thing in NY and Phila. It was a automat and you went in and got your food from revolving things with a window. Had cashiers and kitchen help and that was it.
      expect a comeback

      • Constance says:

I remember seeing that in movies, it seemed very futuristic.

I don’t like the idea of getting rid of entry level positions. I always go to the film series at the art museum and there used to be two stations to pay for parking staffed by people who had accents. Now you hit a button when you drive in and get a card and you pay using a machine in the museum lobby then insert your paid card to get out. So more entry level jobs gone. I guess it makes more work for computer repair people but they are an entirely different group of people than the displaced workers.

  7. driguana says:

Love the suggestion of Ben Carson though.

    • Lulu says:

I don’t think he is mean enough. I think we need a mean SOB to kick asses. It is not going to happen since some Obola donors have figured out a way to steal a zillion dollars from a budget somewhere from the crisis.

    • HELENK3 says:

he is too smart for the backtrack bunch. could you really image a conversation between him and susan rice?? Not backtrack’s kind of people

      • Lulu says:

That is what is so funny about it all. Reporting what to Susan Rice? Rice is allowed into the presence of ValJar and Obola so he can stay insulated and detached. It is just another layer to keep Obola away from his cabinet and agency heads which he doesn’t like to interact with. This fixer/operative/apparatchik can talk to the technical people who fuck up and then spin up to Rice who edits what is told to ValJar and Obola PLUS spin it down or bitch out the flunkies in Homeland Security, CDC, NIH, etc. This probably just temporary until after the election when it won’t matter any more they think. It is like the PR/lying/spin on Benghazi before that election.

    • leslie says:

Ben Carson would never have happened. He would represent all that is anathema to the Dems and particularly to ValJAr. And it would emphasize just how empty a suit obama really is.

      • swanspirit says:

Oh I never gave Carson a snowball’s chance in hell of being appointed “Ebola Czar” . That would have been too much like right , and besides , he is qualified .

  8. HELENK3 says:

    http://freebeacon.com/national-security/democracy-alliance-linked-drug-company-lobbyist-made-ebola-czar/

ok now maybe it makes sense. how many drug co backtrack donors involved?

    • Lulu says:

They have been hoarding cash because the right disease hadn’t appeared.

    • Somebody says:

I don’t know that is the connection. He worked for Imclone for a couple of weeks. Imclone was scooped up years ago, their stock tanked when the FDA didn’t approve a cancer drug. In fact it’s the company that Martha Stewart went to jail over, she dumped her stock as did family members of the founder…..but they didn’t go to jail.

Nope I think Klown is 100% correct. Obama sees this as a political crisis NOT a health crisis. He doesn’t give a shit about any of us, only about himself and his fucking legacy. His legacy btw can’t be salvaged, but he’s too fucking delusional to figure that out.

This is really getting into tinfoil hat territory, nobody can be this incompetent. My 15 year old isn’t this incompetent.

      • leslie says:

I knew Imclone sounded familiar. Only certain people go to jail. Martha was one of those special people. And I agree that No One can be as incompetent as Obola is pretending to be. No one over the age of 3 that is.

  9. Somebody says:

How many other episodes like this are happening unreported?

    • HELENK3 says:

if they would come out with the truth or answer questions it would calm a lot of fears. People are more afraid of the unknown and the lack of trust in this government is not helping.
How will anyone know just what procedures to take and how to combat this if they are kept in the dark for backtrack’s political purposes

      • HELENK3 says:

the backtrack bunch have lied about so much for so long that when they say it is raining, people look out the window and then check the roof to see if someone is up there with a hose. That is making this whole ebola thing ten times worse than it has to be

        • HELENK3 says:

How much info on the EV-68 disease that is hurting and killing our kids has the backtrack bunch given the American public? Is it due to the illegal immigration of kids from South America ? what can parents do to protect their kids?
the backtrack bunch spew so much BS and so little needed information

  10. Propertius says:

It could have been worse, you know. He could have appointed the First Lady.

  11. leslie says:

    OT . . .
I just looked up Hunter Biden on MSNBC,com and Maddow did report on the discharge from Navy Reserves due to drug use. The comments were priceless! they were complaining that the news was private and that MSNBC was WRONG to invade the privacy of the Biden family! “There are some things that need to stay within the family” said one writer. I wonder what they say when it is the Palin family whose privacy is being disclosed.
Oh well, back to FacePalm Friday.

OK MYIQ, I thought you were watching the baseball games this week. What were you really doing?????
don’t you know it is dangerous to fly now?

    http://weaselzippers.us/202806-oops-what-happened-to-old-ebola-czar-dr-nicole-lurie/

I thought the Mafia was the only ones with no show jobs. Guess she learned the Chicago Way

  14. 1539days says:

    Another contrast

Bush brought in General Honore when Katrina went bad.

Obama brought in a spin expert when Ebola went negative.

  15. HELENK3 says:

    http://nashvillepublicradio.org/blog/2014/10/08/fort-campbell-troops-ebola-mission-wont-get-full-protective-gear/

what the hell is this. they are not going to give the military that backtrack is sending on a fools mission for ebola the proper protective gear.

    sounds like murder to me

  16. HELENK3 says:

how do you bring over the timeline photos from facebook to post to a blog without giving your facebook address? I get some really good ones that I would like to post here but do not know how to do so

  17. 1539days says:

If anyone wants to be more freaked out, read about Ebola Reston. This was a type of Ebola discovered in a CDC lab in Virginia that due only to the grace of God, was released but only kills monkeys.
