Monica Lewinsky and the Clinton Truthers

Hey kids! Let’s relitigate the Nineties!

Monica Lewinsky Just Joined Twitter

Now that Bill Clinton has rebranded himself, magically transforming from a predator of women to an advocate for them, it’s time for his most (in)famous old flame to step back into the public eye.

Considering that Lewinsky was one of the first casualties of the Internet Age, she must be pretty nervous about throwing herself back into the fray. I’m with Derek Hunter on this one:

We all make mistakes when we’re young and trying to find our way in the world. Most of them don’t involve having extramarital sexual relations with that man, the President of the United States, but…

I think she’s spent enough time in that barrel. Bill Clinton lied about her and treated her like garbage. He used her when she was convenient and then discarded her when she wasn’t. Now he’s the most popular Democrat in the country, and her very name is a punchline. Talk about a #WarOnWomen.

She’s been punished enough by the people she trusted.

I feel sorry for Monica Lewinsky, but it wasn’t the Clintons who treated her like crap. Bill had a consensual affair with her, then he denied it. What was he supposed to do when the shit hit the fan, pledge his undying love to her on national television?

Hillary apparently said a few mean things about Monica, but only in private. Cheated-on spouses usually have a negative opinion of their spouse’s lover. Even if Hillary had done as some people think she should have and left Bill, she still wasn’t gonna be BFFs with Monica.

The people who made Monica’s life a living hell were Ken Starr and the GOP, Linda Tripp, and the media. They dragged her into the spotlight. Linda Tripp betrayed Monica’s confidences. Ken Starr sicced the FBI on her. Then he leaked it all to the media.

Monica now says she is making it her mission to end cyberbullying, and calls herself the first victim. But what happened to her wasn’t cyberbullying, it was public slut-shaming. Nobody forced the media to make her name and face infamous.

So now the Clinton Truthers have their favorite toy back to play with again. These are the people who have been trying to “expose the truth” about Bill and Hillary for 20 years now. But they don’t have anything new, so they just keep rehashing the same crap that didn’t fly the first couple thousand times they told us about it.

We knew that Bill Clinton was a horndog when we elected him, but there is a big difference between a horndog and a sexual predator. Trying to use Bill’s wayward ways against Hillary is just ridiculous.

If the GOP tries to make 2016 all about Bill’s penis I may have to vote for Hillary just to spite them.

I wish people would be consistent. Adults are supposed to be responsible for the choices they make. Monica made some bad choices, but she wasn’t a victim until Ken Starr got a hold of her.

Monica was an adult when she had an affair with a married POTUS but people want to treat her like she was a child. Many of these same people think 14 year olds should be able to obtain birth control and abortions without parental consent.

  3. DeniseVB says:

    Monica blames Drudge 😉

  4. Lulu says:

What can be drug out to divert from Ebola, ISIS, 99 zillion blank green cards, an election, Prezzy Poopy-head looking drunk and saying stoner shit, Holder saying he regretted not passing gun conrol (hint: he isn’t in Congress and allegedly went to law school), etc? Wait! I know! Monica the idiot! Monica the “I never learn anything from my mistakes because I am emotionally still 14!” That Monica. And the Republicans were mean to me. So was Hillary! She is to be our next feminist ICON. She is so cool. And she is just sort of fat now. Divert, pivot, spin.

    • DeniseVB says:

I’m wondering why Monica’s been rolled out as a “spokeswoman” for something? Other than having an affair with a sitting President, what on earth is her message? Speaking out against cyberbullying? Hmmmm, who’s behind this new gig?

Even during Hillary’s 2008 run, Monica was having a private life and I don’t remember her being brought up? Now we have this new, shinier Monica trotted out as the face of young women ? Who were bullied? I don’t get it.

      • Lulu says:

My best guess is one of the lefty political groups is paying her. I don’t blame her for wanting to make some dough and re-enter the world or create a life. But as a diversion to the implosion of the Democrats, or as spite towards the Clinton’s (Hillary) this is a very bad idea and for her personally. Like Klown said she wasn’t bullied, she was exposed and there is a big difference. I alternately felt sorry for her and thought she was an idiot back in the day. If she thinks she is going to be admired (I loved him! Sob!) or some stupid stuff like that she is crazy. She was a dumbass who made a mistake while young. Fine. Okay. It is over. Stop bringing it up or you look like a dumbass again. And a patsy for the Vile Progs looking for a tabloid story. Have a little pride Monica.

        • votermom says:

I’m with you on that – she’s an idiot and I felt sorry for her.
I have no idea why she’s back in the limelight and I really don’t care.

        • DeniseVB says:

Looks like she’s capitalizing on being “bullied” then? Yes, who’s behind this? Only found her listed on a speakers list:

I’m guessing the Eliz.Warren wing of the vile progs helped reinvent her to wave in front of Hillary to “help her decide not to run” ? Will the news shows start inviting her on, yeah, like they want to know all about her stopping the cyberbullies …. snort.

        • leslie says:

She may not have been “bullied, bullied”, but it felt like bullying to me at the time. She was very young, foolish and I felt sorry for her. Now it feels like she is a patsy for . . . . Who is evil enough to stir this up? . Vile Progs, possibly Warren or bronco, axelrod or even Rove. NOT the Rs who cannot really benefit from this issue. And really, most of the children who are or were active in the obola WH aren’t even “smart” enough or think about anything that happened before they had their first wet dream.

          • cynic says:

Morning Joe had several discussions about this today, including part of her speech. They were all sympathetic and said that Bill is loved, and got a pass.

Also they have been talking about Elizabeth Warren going around the country, helping with candidates. “She has a message.” They have reminded the viewers (yesterday or today, can’t remember) that Hillary was the anointed one in ’08, and Barack Obama came out of nowhere to beat her.

It will be interesting to find out who is behind this.

        • Constance says:

She was certainly brought back by Obots who don’t want Hillary in 2016. As far as I’m concerned the thrill is gone for Hillary because of the Benghazi lies but I don’t see how Monica would discourage anyone from voting for Hillary. Hillary is again going to have a battle with Dems who don’t want the Clinton dynasty to be bigger than the Kennedy dynasty or the Obama dynasty. Remember how when Dems forced Hillary out in 2008 (without ever counting her votes) they moved quickly to try and substitute in Caroline Kennedy and Michele Obama as “preferred fashion leaders among Dem women” in male political hacks minds? What a load. “Here take this insipid and tragic daughter of a former President as a substitute for the first successful woman candidate for President”. “Here take the female half of the new Camelot as your substitute for the first successful woman candidate for President, she changes fashion outfits hourly!” That was so insulting!

Election periods may just be the penultimate point in American culture. It’s supposed to be a time of democratic pride but it ends up just being another vitriolic, bold -faced lying, mud slinging free-for-all to deride as many people as possible. Personally, I can’t stand it and think, once again, as a fierce independent there are very few candidates that I would even vote for. The governor’s race in Florida is a joke. I choke when I think of the real lack of choice in this country.
Who would even run any more? Only those interested in power and greed, it seems. As a person with 40 years experience in public policy, I have been encouraged on numerous occasions to run for a variety of local, political offices. I respectfully decline. And this being Monica Lewinskly day I have to say that my skeletons only leave my closet on Halloween!

Personally, I really dislike the Clintons. There is no way I would vote for Hillary. In fact, as I think more about it, there is little chance I would ever vote for a Democrat or a Republican ever again.
Maybe Ben Carson, but he’ll get ripped into surgical shreds.

    • DeniseVB says:

I remember my solid liberal wingnut days in 2000, I voted for Bush over Gore because I had Clinton fatigue and mad the Dem Party couldn’t find a better candidate than the wooden Gore. With 8 years to rebuild, the Dems gave us Obama. Ugh, it did get worse.

    • Propertius says:

I hear you. I didn’t vote for anyone for Senate this time around – just left it blank on the mail-in ballot.

  6. driguana says:

So if the Republicans do, indeed, take back the Senate, what do you think will be the reaction of the main steam press? Voter fraud? Voter Suppression? Cheating? Lying? Campaign money?

      • Lulu says:

Okay Sen. Udall. Very good. LOL. I especially liked when Udall said he was brain dead. He looked like he needed to go back to bed. I rather like him personally at that point.

        • cynic says:

Look what the media did to Rick Perry (I forgot) during the debates, and to Sara Palin, when she couldn’t come up with what newspapers she reads.

          • driguana says:

This is so bizarre, really. What was the question? What are the three most influential books you’ve ever read? Geez, if they asked me that question, I’d answer “Of Mice and Men” by John Steinbeck, “The 12th Planet” by Zecharia Sitchin and “Before the Pharoahs” by Edward Malkowski… would they deal with that? They are expecting a certain kind of answer, so it is already a set-up.

As for magazines, these are the 3 to which I currently subscribe “The American Philatelist”, “Atlantis Rising” and “Poets and Writers”. They are expecting a certain answer again like “Time”, “Newsweek” or “Field and Stream”! I’m sure they wouldn’t even know what philately is! They go out and blog that I read some kind of sex magazine!

        • driguana says:

As people, I rather like the whole Udall clan. I had the opportunity to work with Stewart Udall on a number of open space and transportation projects in Santa Fe and know Tom personally and they are good people but still….they are on the ultra-progressive bandwagon.

        • Propertius says:

Udall? Which one? Mark lost me when he voted for telecom immunity in 2008.

    • foxyladi14 says:

      All of the above, 🙂

    • 49erDweet says:

The press will rejoice because once again they can “do their jobs”. Which means, of course, when Dems control something…………..Oh, never mind.

Monica made some very bad choices and did pay a large price for them.
sorry she never learned that dating a married man is like buying a used car, you get someone else’s lemon. I taught my daughters that when then first started dating. Also the old maxim if he cheats with you, he will cheat on you still applies.

I do not know why she is opening herself up to being mocked and hurt again, but I do hope it is worth it for her this time

    • votermom says:

Like I said above, I did feel sorry for Lewinsky, and I do cut 22 year old a break for acting like an idiot because of love/lust whatever. But I don’t have much sympathy for a 41 year old who still blames others rather than taking responsibility for her bad choices two decades ago.

    • Constance says:

She is probably a Progressive and is doing what she can for the Prog cause while making money.

  9. DeniseVB says:

    From another huffpo article:

During her speech, Lewinsky announced her intentions to help with the Tyler Clementi Foundation, which was set up by the parents of a Rutgers student who killed himself after video of him having sex with another man was broadcast online. Lewinsky wrote about how Clementi’s story inspired her to speak out about her affair and subsequent cyberbullying for the first time in years in a May 2014 Vanity Fair essay.

I looked up the Tyler Clementi Foundation, which looks pretty legit though definitely supported by major liberal groups, primarily GLAAD and the director is a former NARAL director. Monica’s “bullying” problem is certainly something I wouldn’t equate to gay-suicide-as-a-result-of-bullying ?

  10. HELENK3 says:

this is one of the saddest article’s I have read lately. If this is the future this country is screwed

  11. piper says:

Bill Clinton is coming to Wisconsin to campaign for Mary Burke, the den. running for governor. She must have lower poll numbers than what’s being reported.

    • leslie says:

And to Chicago to stump for Quinn. All the major newspapers have endorsed Quinn – even the usually quiet (and PC – read pandering to the South Side Chicago crowd) Sun Times. My guess is that Quinn will win because we have The Resurrection every couple of years here in Chicago. These long-time democrats came back time after time – some of them are over 100 years old, but you’d never guess it by looking at them. They must be zombies they look like they’re 20 yr/olds. It’s amazing.

      • cynic says:

I thought the papers endorsed Rauner?

        • leslie says:

OMG!!! They did endorse Rauner. That was what I meant to say! RAUNER not Quinn. THAT is why Clinton is here to campaign for Quinn.
Geesh! I need to stop trying to post anything before lunch or while I am at work.
          (or maybe ever again.)

          Thank.You. b<cynic.

Whatever happened to Juanita Broaddrick and Kathleen Willey? Interesting how feminist groups did a complete flip and instead of believing a woman who claims rape, they defended the man. I think it was at that point that orgs like NOW lost credibility and proved themselves to be nothing more than unprincipled apparatchiks for the Dem Party.

  14. Anthony says:

Anybody besides me think the Elizabeth Warren Dems are behind this?

    • votermom says:

      Most likely suspect.

    • Constance says:

I think Progressives are behind the Monica reappearance but Elizabeth Warren is a pawn. She is supposed to be some sort of consolation prize for the pro woman Dem voters.

    • foxyladi14 says:

Wouldn’t put it passed them Anthony. 👿

    • driguana says:

I’m still thinking that if Hillary does not run, which is still possible, we might see a Gore/Warren proposal but that leaves out Blacks and Latinos, who may well vote for any democrat anyway as long as they get their free stuff. Who else can the Demos run? Jerry Brown/Deval Patrick? Colonel Bernie Sanders/Elizabeth Warren? Really what are the other combos? That Billy Goat is running around campaigning for everyone though leads one to suspect that he is picking up some Clinton chits.

  15. DeniseVB says:

I knew there had to be a list somewhere, yay for Wiki !

What Monica should be doing now is a Reality Show on the History channel revisiting political scandals through the ages! It couldn’t be worse than the Kardashians or Kendra. Yep, I’d even pitch that show to Oprah 😀

    • HELENK3 says:

facial expressions can change the meaning of what is being said. was it a joke, was it serious? so face to face is a really important part of learning.

      • driguana says:

Right, think of all of times you’ve said something on FB or a blog that you said either in jest or for a particular reason and it was taken in a totally different way. I’m having this problem right now with a comment I made over on No Quarter….geeez. The communication age is not all it’s cracked up to be!

    • leslie says:

Srsly? doesn’t everyone who votes early have press coverage? Well, knock me over with a feather.

    • DeniseVB says:

Of course it was staged, 3 square blocks probably had to be shut down before he got anywhere near that building. It’s the standard photo op of the politician voting for himself, or in this case, his policies. He’s sending a message: Vote Early, Vote Often ! 🙂

      • HELENK3 says:

kind of convenient stage with the monica story breaking

      • leslie says:

The traffic tie-ups here yesterday were phenomenal. They had running traffic alerts all related to the Obola entourage a few times throughout the day. The last wone was during evening rush hour when, at last I heard, there would be another 30 minute delay in commuters getting home.
Way to win votes and influence people.

(In honor of driguana’s comment because it happens a lot of the time to me as well.)

        • DeniseVB says:

But leslie, Obama doesn’t have problems with traffic so he doesn’t understand why that should be a problem with everybody else ! (yes, he was joking, but I didn’t think it was funny).

        • leslie says:

Oopsie! I put a /snark at the end of the comment but before I added the stuff in parentheses. But it disappeared. 😦

  16. HELENK3 says:

this is a real victim. Monica had free will. How she chose to use it is her problem

    • leslie says:

Yeah, well when I watched the Kelly File last night, there was a clip of Dr Frieden saying he wouldn’t need to completely cover his body to deal with an Ebola patient which was subsequently contradicted by the CDC directives.
Indeed, the right hand does not know – or have any clue about – what the left hand does.

  17. DeniseVB says:

Pew Research ? Who did they poll, the OFA kids ? As reported in the Washington Post of course, least trusted news…. Rush and Fox ! Last I listened, Rush is an entertainer and opinionator but pretty spot on with his analysis.

    • DeniseVB says:

Yes, Daily Show,Colbert and Aljazeera America were on their poll too.

    • The Klown says:

It’s not who is least trusted that matters, it’s who is the least trustworthy. Everybody gets shit wrong sometimes, but how is their overall accuracy?

OTOH, how do you determine accuracy objectively? I’ve seen ThinkProgress and MMFA nit-pick “lies” from Fox News while ignoring the whoppers coming out of MSNBC. Lots of times the dishonesty isn’t in what they say that isn’t true, it’s the stuff that’s true that they don’t say. Lies of omission.

      • The Klown says:

There are way too many people in this country who think they are well informed but most of what they think they know just ain’t so.

        • insanelysane says:

So true and so frustrating. One LIV I am conversing with told me that the reason Obama is so wonderful is that he got health insurance companies under control and got Americans cheaper prescriptions because he negotiated lower prices with all the Pharmaceutical companies. Obama also is saving us billions cause he ended all the wars.
I walked away. There is nothing you can say to these people so I won’t try.

  18. trixta says:

Monica has been stuck in this late-90s national scandal and is trying– yet again! — to rehabilitate her image. It hasn’t worked in the past with her book deals, etc., so I guess this time around she’s decided to take a page out of Donna Rice (from the Gary Hart scandal) and become some kind of internet heroine. Rice was successful in rehabilitating herself, mostly because her work against internet child porn is, by all accounts, genuine (i.e. she doesn’t bring up the affair, Hart or his wife). Looks like Donna’s gone way past that 80s scandal. Monica, on the other hand, doesn’t appear genuine, for some reason. I used to have sympathy for her, especially when the media and the Feds went after her, but she was not bullied per se–shamed, yes, but not bullied. Unfortunately, she was a pawn in an ugly scheme by the Right to boot a sitting president from office. And Bill was dumb, arrogant, and predisposed psychologically to give his enemies exactly what they wanted.

I don’t think the Left is behind Monica’s re-emergence (I could be wrong), although her timing is certainly suspect. She probably made up her mind a long time ago to make the Clintons suffer — forever! (Looks like she’s still pissed that Bill didn’t leave Hillary for her.) I can’t say that I’ve ever heard her regret her poor choices and role she played in that adulterous drama. Yeah, Bill was/is a horn dog and acted irresponsibly and recklessly as a husband and POTUS, but, according to some who knew her, she went to Washington with a purpose — to bag someone high up in the political chain. Moreover, Bill was not the first married man she had an affair with. (I think she had an affair with some teacher before going to D.C.) She’s not as “young” and “innocent” as she (or the right-wing) wants to portray herself. Snapping her thong at a guy — in this case, the President — is hardly innocent. Of course, it takes two to tango, as they say, but in my view, she comes off not only as an opportunist, but as a woman scorned who either cannot or will not let go of the past. It’s really pathetic to see.

    • The Klown says:

We live in strange times where you’re not supposed to judge or “slut-shame” women for the choices they make with their bodies.

Jeebus, who the fuck decided that porn, prostitution and stripping were valid career choices for women?

    • Propertius says:

Yeah, I don’t think she’s interested in rehabilitation as much remuneration. 😉

    • Constance says:

I’m sure it’s the left who is paying for the Monica tour. Why would the right waste their time? If Hillary doesn’t run, I don’t see any other women in the Dems pipe line for quite awhile. That mean’s the first woman President will likely be a Republican.

  19. trixta says:

“Jeebus, who the fuck decided that porn, prostitution and stripping were valid career choices for women?”

They’re called “sex workers”, Klown. Get with the PC-program. [Snort snort…I mean snark!]

    • Constance says:

The thing is being a sex worker who charges a fee makes more sense to me that giving it away for free. I do have contempt for women who are too stupid to charge. That doesn’t mean I think sex worker is a legitimate career.

      • trixta says:

Yeah, complicated issue. (Then there are those who are caught up in human trafficking!) “Sex worker” makes it sound like a career choice when, in fact, for some women there may be very little choice (runaways, drug addicts, otherwise destitute women). Of course there are some who do choose that path.

  20. mothy6767 says:

Do you think anyone actually cares about Monica? The media may hype it but I think anyone old enough to remember it is bored by it. Those younger have grown up sexting. One big yawn maybe Dunham cares but I doubt many others do.

    • piper says:

Only Monica and those who want to derail Hillary care. Hillary should be judged on her accomplishments, failures and lies not on Billy’s sexual adventures.

      • Constance says:

True but I think the Progs who brought up Monica again are just reminding voters of the scuzzy circus that the Clintons had going on around them. Yeah Obama isn’t my favorite person but at least he acts like a moral person relative to his family unit.

  21. piper says:

The Monica train left the station many years ago. Over and done with. However, I put most of the blame on Bill’s shoulders – what was he thinking – a man in his 50’s being offered and given sexual favors by an intern not much older than his daughter was okay.

Off topic why did I not know Weeds is so funny. Kevin Nealon and Elizabeth Perkins are a hoot.

  26. The Klown says:

One major point of cleavage between progressives and conservatives is this:

When you see a young girl acting in a sexually provocative manner, do you identify that girl with yourself, or do you identify her with your daughter?

Most progressives — either younger themselves, or “forever young” in their thinking — always look at teenage sexuality and think about themselves. They wouldn’t want any moral trips laid on them concerning their own sexual choices, so they decided they don’t want any moral trips laid on the teenaged girl.

On the other hand, most conservatives — sometimes older, sometimes pretty young, but having had children — look at a teenage girl shaking her ass and think, “I don’t really want my daughter doing that.”

I’m guessing that Annie Lennox has been a fierce socialist or anarchist all her life. Everything from her look to her occupation to her nationality (British) skews left.

And yet, she’s had children. So when she sees Miley Cyrus twerking, or Beyonce selling the bump-and-grind as a “feminist” statement, what she’s thinking about is not she herself receiving these messages about sexuality, but her daughters.

And she’s thinking of other young girls. Young girls at that age when they’re determined to prove they’re not little girls anymore, and go looking for possible role models.

And what do those girls see?

Any sort of judgment about sexualization of young girls is claimed to be a #WarOnWomen. Well, it’s not — what it is is a suitable level of concern for a #WarOnLittleGirls.

Meg Ryan’s the one that really bugged me. She use to be so cute, then something she did made her mouth look like the Jokers.

        • votermom says:

Renee did something around the eyes/eyebrow area – her eyes look bigger and the brows don’t arch the same way anymore.
Maybe it was a way to smooth out wrinkles?

        • leslie says:

I will miss the younger Renee A. And the same thing with Meg Ryan. I’ve never been able to figure out why she did that thing with her mouth. I honestly hope that for both of these women, they are pleased with the results. The worst would be to go through all the pain and expense of these reconstructions or embellishments and just hate the way everything turned out.
