My boys are exploring the back yard today. They don’t even want to come in to eat. Tigger and Tucker seem completely unbothered by their “tutoring” on Thursday. Taggart is still favoring one leg but he runs and plays with his brothers.

NFL Divisional playoffs start in a little over an hour. First up is the Baltimore Ravens and New England Patriots.

these trespassers were lucky that there was a good engineer on that train. If that engineer could not have stopped that train these trespassers would look like kibbles and bits and need a closed coffin

    Guess who?

Reader Ali and I have been having a conversation about the violent extremists in Paris. His point is well taken. The attacks in Paris have less to do with religion than with a type of gang warfare by people who are attention seeking and power hungry. I happen to agree with Ali. But as I have written before, fundamentalist religion is the best refuge for a narcissist. You can get away with a lot of destructive behavior behind the cover of extreme piety.

This country puts the fundamentalist on a pedestal. It praises them for their goodness, faithfulness and self-control. (Did I see a few lurkers squirm and get all testy? I think I did.) They are made to feel special. They are better than you are. They seek attention by abstaining, by judging those who are out groups, by shaming. And they are given special status for their what is perceived as the self-sacrifice of rejecting “The World” and temptation.

But is it self-sacrifice if attention is what they really want? Maybe they derive worth and power from their perceived control of others. They delight in their ability to make others feel unworthy and rejected because of their lifestyles, other religious faith or worldliness. Our politicians and media court these people and inflate their egos and, in return, the religious narcissist laps it up. The authoritarian leader seeks out the religious narcissist. It’s a match made in someone’s heaven. Not mine.

So, what happens when the rest of society gets wise to what’s really going on and seeks to disrupt the unholy trinity of narcissism, religion and power? I don’t know but I’ll bet the NRA stops it dead in its tracks.

The Open Carry people remind me an awful lot of the armed gangs Ali refers to. We’d better hope they don’t get religion.

I’m having a hard finding out if this is real or not. Arming kids against intruders with guns at school by having them bring in soup cans to hurl at them? This has “The Onion” smell all over it, but I can’t it anywhere at their site. Please tell me I’m being had. http://www.techtimes.com/articles/25801/20150110/best-defense-against-school-shootings-canned-foods.htm
