From the Department of You Really Can Make This Shit Up:
Police did not deploy military tanks, or open fire on a bunch of white people began rioting last night after Ohio State’s national title win over the Oregon Ducks. Property was destroyed, fires were started all over town.
Tear gas was used to break up crowds of what the news media deems as “revelers.”
Columbus Police Department spokeswoman Denise Alex-Bouzounis told NBC that about 8,000 students forced their way into The Horseshoe stadium and tore down a goal post.
She described the crowds as being “intense” after the game.
She did not call them vandals, thugs or rioters. Arrests were made apparently without beating the white rioters to a bloody pulp.
Police cars burned: 0
Buildings burned: 0
Stores looted: 0
Windows broken: 0
Consecutive nights of celebratory rioting: 1
I am not defending the actions of Ohio State fans. Celebrating by destroying your own community always seemed pointless and stupid, but it happens on a regular basis. But when it happens the primary motivating emotion is joy, not anger. The participants are celebrating, not protesting. On the other hand, if they break the law they should face the consequences.
In this case the police moved in, used some tear gas, and the riot/celebration ended after a few hours. Apparently no one was seriously injured. The fires were confined to a few dumpsters and old couches. These were different cops in a different town. Is their failure to overreact proof of racism?
If so, by whom?
It was the same old media though. Is the author suggesting that the liberal media is racist?
