Wednesday WTF

That video is a perfect metaphor for this story:

More than 90 celebs say they’re ready for Warren

Susan Sarandon, Olivia Wilde and Edward Norton are among the more than 90 entertainers urging Sen. Elizabeth Warren to throw her hat in the 2016 presidential race.

The group — which also includes Mark Ruffalo, Natasha Lyonne, Julia Stiles, and “The Avengers” director Joss Whedon — penned an open letter this week to the Massachusetts Democrat, pushing her to make a White House bid.
“Senator Warren, we’re ready to show you that you have the support needed to enter this presidential race,” the letter says. “We’re ready to fight with you, Senator Warren. Please, run for President.”

The Hollywood stars are banding together to form a group called “Artists for Warren.” The lawmaker has repeatedly denied she’ll be vying to become President Warren, answering simply, “No,” when Fortune magazine asked last month if she was going to run.

But the celebs don’t appear to be deterred.

“These artists inspire us,” Ready for Warren super-PAC campaign manager Erica Sagrans said in a news release, “and they’re making it clear they’re inspired by Elizabeth Warren — her integrity, her authenticity, and her vision for what our country can be.”

Elizabeth Warren is an older, whiter, female Obama, without the manufactured image of coolness. She makes Joe Biden look good by comparison. She’s almost as old as Hillary, without the accomplishments (and when you really think about it, Hillary hasn’t actually accomplished much worth bragging about).

The problem for the Democrats is they don’t have a farm system anymore. After Hillary, Biden and Warren (who are all old and white) they really don’t have any contenders. They are like a sports team that has traded away all their future prospects and tied itself to long-term contracts with aging players who weren’t even stars in their prime.

Meanwhile, in Greece:

Greek voters put their faith in a charismatic politician who made big promises, but they’re going to learn a harsh lesson.

The deck chairs of the Titanic can only be rearranged so many times.

If you don’t take your medicine, you won’t get better.

I gotta go feed The Kittehs.

Watched Justified last night. We’re three episodes into season 6 and Raylan hasn’t shot anybody yet.

“Her integrity, her authenticity” Has someone changed the definitions of those words without telling me?

BTW: I have nothing against old white people, but the Democrats are supposed to be the party of youth and minorities.

Are people confusing this with a Snipe Hunt? I thought the title was rather clear as to the content. Because I know my squeamish self – I also know this is a movie I might not want to see in a crowded theatre.

      WTF? Bad decision.

      • Myiq2xu says:

I disagree. The only people it’s being kept from is our side. Yes, the footage is shocking and horrifying. But sometimes people need to see what we are up against.

Imagine if pictures of the carnage at Pearl Harbor or the Nazi Death camps were censored to make sure nobody got upset.

People should see the truth. You can’t defeat evil by hiding from it.

Prior to the introduction of Measles vaccine in 1980, Measles killed an estimated 16 million people, worldwide, per year.

      • Propertius says:

That statistic appears to be an error. Wikipedia still cites it, having apparently misread the WHO page on measles (which is the cited source). What the WHO page actually says is:

Measles is a highly contagious, serious disease caused by a virus. In 1980, before widespread vaccination, measles caused an estimated 2.6 million deaths each year.

The 15.6 million statistic appears further on in the page:

By 2013, the global push to improve vaccine coverage resulted in a 75% reduction in deaths. During 2000-2013, with support from the Measles & Rubella Initiative (M&R Initiative), measles vaccination prevented an estimated 15.6 million.

So that’s an estimate, for a 4 year period, of combined measles and rubella fatalities – which works out to a little less than 4 million/year (reasonable since the population density is higher than it was 35 years ago).

That’s still quite bad enough in my book. In areas with limited medical care and poor nutrition, it’s about 10% fatal – which is very bad, given how contagious it is.

The first measles vaccine was introduced in 1963, not 1980 (I know, I had it). The first combined MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella) vaccine was introduced in 1971. 1980 marks the beginning of the WHO-sponsored mass worldwide vaccination campaign.

        • SHV says:

Thanks for the correction. 16 million seemed fishy. I do remember the ’62-’65 Rubella epidemic and the children affected by their mother’s disease.

Who knew, Harry’s got a brother named Larry!

The Nevada Highway Patrol said 73-year-old Larry Reid was arrested for DUI around 12:40 p.m. on Monday.

He was also charged with battery of a police officer, driving across a median, failing to obey an officer, not wearing a seat belt and possession of a gun while under the influence of alcohol.

Whether you agree with her or not, it mystifies me how anyone could advocate electing another President who has never acted in a managerial or executive capacity. Warren may be the Second Coming for all I know, but why would you want to hand over the Executive Branch to someone who has never run anything????????

NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams admitted Wednesday he was not aboard a helicopter hit and forced down by RPG fire during the invasion of Iraq in 2003, a false claim that has been repeated by the network for years.

Williams repeated the claim Friday during NBC’s coverage of a public tribute at a New York Rangers hockey game for a retired soldier that had provided ground security for the grounded helicopters, a game to which Williams accompanied him. In an interview with Stars and Stripes, he said he had misremembered the events and was sorry.

The admission came after crew members on the 159th Aviation Regiment’s Chinook that was hit by two rockets and small arms fire told Stars and Stripes that the NBC anchor was nowhere near that aircraft or two other Chinooks flying in the formation that took fire. Williams arrived in the area about an hour later on another helicopter after the other three had made an emergency landing, the crew members said.

“I would not have chosen to make this mistake,” Williams said. “I don’t know what screwed up in my mind that caused me to conflate one aircraft with another.”

      • DeniseVB says:

Williams is getting a thrashing on twitter. Good !

Remember when Hillary was running in 2008? She said she’d been under fire in Bosnia maybe. I don’t remember where it was. But MSM and Dems and Reps all ganged up on her for lying…NOT for “mis-remembering”

Is it wrong that I relish these people going down in flames? Reid and nancy poopsie are punch lines. Ted Kennedy took the most storied name in America and disgraced it. I cannot vote for Hillary because it was within her power to have stopped it and she chose ambition and party over country. Little girl outside of Denver may never walk again because the present cabal dumped children through out the country without a passing thought to the ramifications. Worse than children. Absence of consequences for special snowflakes creates vacuous adults. School board meeting woman was complaining there was too much homework. She is a single mother and blah blah blah. Shut up you lard ass and sit down my squid spends 7 to 8 every night doing homework. School only sends ten minutes no problem I have many books. Full hour even over the summer. Her future is at stake. Sorry math can be uncomfortable. Hard. Common Core 3rd grade math is whack. I turned my living room into restaurants, stadiums, theaters, grocery stores and acted out story problems. Pulling teeth but she broke through. No way was I going to let her future be dictated by some ass at an Ivy League school putz. No no no. It is called homeWORK because it is trying. I have had WWF throw downs tears being hated. You cannot give in ever. Take home stuff reinforces what was done in school. Homework is not punishment. It is the greatest learning tool there is. I took a few education courses at Hunter school operates when of the best early education facilities in the world. Cognitive structure involves building on what is already there. Introduce a new concept it has to be tied in somehow to make it organic. Homework is an affirmation. Common Core is about making everyone a C student. I review all of her homework and daily planner. Then she gets a test and there are questions designed to get wrong. This guy believes in the most annoying creature ever. Some fat fuck quaker school c word is not going to define my pup. I don’t just arbitrarily provide classes everything has a purpose. She has a phone bill it is prepaid if she does not have 35 on may 4th it stops. I paid for three months but that is it. She has no idea April is paid for. I was lost forever because when she was wee her dad called twenty minutes before he was supposed to pick her up at day care. I don’t know how to drive and waiting for a bus was not an option. So I did what every gay great uncle does and I ran. Picked her up but I had not taken my wallet so I had to carry her home. Google maps says 2.1 miles. Child is cemented into my soul. Thrown away by her own parents. They actually market her. Poor me. Sharon is a psychiatric nurse spent close to 50 thousand fighting for guardianship. My parents won custody. Great grand parents have never won. Ever.
Even more bizarre the judge only allows one visit per week at a center. Supervised. My parents get up every Saturday take the kid to court ordered visitation. She suffers for two hours with him and then she goes to voice and acting class. I buy 100 dollars in Subway gift cards a month so my parents as they wait for sponge to just be alive. How many kids get great grandparents that sit for hours to create future.
How many middle aged fa^^ great uncles get to be fierce assholes
