Comedy Should Be Funny

So yesterday I see this:

Comedy isn’t easy, but it should be funny.

Kaili Joy Gray (aka “angrymouse”) is a former Cheeto blogger who went pro. She lives somewhere in the East Bay Area kin or around the People’s Republic of Berkeley. She’s an editor for Wonkette, which is supposedly a liberal/progressive webzine that does humor and satire.

I’ve never found them amusing. I’ve never found her amusing either. If you don’t believe me, see for yourself.

She is not unique. These says the Left’s idea of humor seems to be “Republicans are stupid! Ha ha!!” That pretty much describes Jon Stewart’s The Daily Show and all of it’s spin-offs too.

Humor often mocks and makes fun of ourselves and other people. But it’s good natured and not intended to hurt anyone. Hate-humor is not good natured but is instead based on anger, contempt and loathing of the person being targeted. It is intended to otherize, ostracize and identify outsiders.

I first noticed the undercurrent of hate, anger and contempt in Lefty humor during the 2008 Democrat primary. Obama supporters were angry (and creepy) as hell. Remember when Randi Rhodes called Hillary a “big fucking whore?”

Air America host Randi Rhodes called both Geraldine Ferraro and Hillary Clinton “whores” in a recent appearance, seen below. Rhodes, who hosts a weekday radio show on Air America, said to the cheering crowd, “What a whore Geraldine Ferraro is! She’s such a fucking whore!” She then proceeded to say, “Hillary is a big fucking whore, too” to a mixed audience reaction. “You know why she’s a big fucking whore? Because her deal is always, ‘Read the fine print, asshole!'”

It is hard to describe the difference between comedy and hate-humor. It’s not so much in the actual words but in the spirit in which they are delivered. When you poke fun at yourself people generally don’t get the feeling that you loath yourself.

If a comedian singled you out at a comedy show you might feel embarrassed by the attention. If a Vile Prog like Kaili Joy Gray singled you out at a rally or the annual Nutroots Nation convention, you would feel threatened instead.

And if you complained they would reply “We were just joking!”

    Then there is Amy Schumer:

Amy Schumer: ‘I’m 160 Pounds, and I Can Catch a Dick Whenever I Want’

Amy Schumer accepted the Trailblazer Award at Glamour UK’s Women of the Year Awards earlier this week, and gave a totally disjointed, expletive-filled, weirdly inspirational speech, with the added bonus of Absolutely Fabulous’ Jennifer Saunders guffawing behind her the whole time.

“I’m probably like 160 pounds right now and I can catch a dick whenever I want, like, that’s the truth. It’s not a problem!” she began, launching into a very good childhood anecdote:

“I didn’t lose my two front teeth until I was in 5th grade, which is late. And that very same week, I got my period. Which is early. So I was just this jack-o-lantern with tits walking around, and I had one of those moms that was like, ‘You don’t need to shave above your knees.’”

Schumer loves to make fun of women’s magazines, and it’s always interesting to watch those very publications heap awards and spreads and fawning columns on her. Schumer nodded to this in her speech: “I make fun of women’s magazines a lot, because they’re great fodder, and some of them make you feel bad just for being born with a pussy.” However, she said:

Every comic in the room knows that when a female comic has a photo shoot, they’re like, “Oh, can we hold this plastic dick over your head? We’re gonna shoot actual cum out of it onto your head.” They’re like, “You’re gonna be a cum dumpster,” and you’re like, “Thank you for having me!” But Glamour is the first magazine that was just like, “Smile!”

    • Lulu says:

Insecurity breeds anger. If “catching a dick” is the sum of her aspirations and a measure of her self worth, to her anyway, then it is apparent what she has been taught by the culture in which she fights to belong. Shock value defiance is all she thinks she is worth. Sad. And self destructive.

    • DandyTIger says:

      Amy is brilliant.

      • leslie says:

        you forgot the “/s”

        • DandyTIger says:

          No /s, meant it.

          • elliesmom says:

I think it’s interesting that women men think are really good comedians are not usually held in high regard by other women. Amy Shumer is one. Sarah SIlverman is another. Melissa McCarthy. Kathy Griffin. While some women find them funny, most women don’t put them at the top of the heap. Most women like their comedy to be a bit more subtle, less potty humor, sex to be more nuanced and less in your face. See quote above from Shumer, which is decidedly not funny. 😉 A lot of standup clips get passed around on Facebook. It’s interesting who passes around stuff and who just passes on it. While everything is “on a curve”, I do think humor is one place men and women are different.

          • leslie says:

            Good observation, em.

    • angienc says:

That’s that unfunny blonde in the upcoming movie Trainwreck (the promos are running every 5 minutes on TV), right?
      She’s 180 lbs at least.

    • leslie says:

Has anyone actually gone to this site and read the comments? I think I am older than I let on because I find many of the comments demeaning of the people who post them and really not “smart” at all. 😦

      • elliesmom says:

Leslie, you and I are from the feminist school of thought that says women don’t have to laugh at what they don’t think is funny. I’m not sure what the chick with the penis headband was trying to say. You don’t have to bring one to the party because I already have one of my own? Why are they arguing over what size dress Shumer wears? She has enough money she can get the person selling her clothes to put any number in it that will make her feel good about herself. Put a size 12 label in a size 18 dress, and my BFF will shop at your store forever. I seldom go to Jezebel even for click bait because it’s all so vapid and silly there- and not funny.

    • 1539days says:

I have respect for Amy Schumer because she was a panelist on Red Eye many times while she was becoming an overnight success, even though she was on the other end of the spectrum politically. The whole “Catch a dick” thing is her saying that not looking like the magazine ideal doesn’t make her unattractive. Her choice of langauge is part of her act, One of her big specials was called “Mostly Sex Stuff.” If you want clean, Ellen DeGeneres used to do one of the squeakiest acts ever and it wasn’t very good.

    • Lulu says:

So defacing property is not cool anymore? Is it because he went negative over Bronco thus rendering himself uncool? I think the political and social elites are flipping out and can’t keep up with the culture wars anymore.

    • DandyTIger says:

They’ll argue that one magical day, the two parties switched places. The Republicans took on all the racism and hate based views of the Democratic party, and the Democrats magically took on all the progressive anti-slavery views of the Republican party. I think it was “switch sides” day where they all ran across the room to their opposite side and switched flags.

    • Lulu says:

The stars and bars battle flag is based upon the Saltire AKA as St Andrews cross. Do the Vile Progs want that one banned too? It is medievalVil so I guess that history needs to be purged too. Vile Progs sometimes remind me of ISIS in that they want to destroy historical relics and monuments. Cultural eradication is the goal.

    • angienc says:

In related news, let the cleansing begin:

NOLA Mayor Mitch Landrieu (Mary’s brother) is calling to take down the statute at the landmark Lee Circle in New Orleans.
See, you’ve got to look like you’re doing *something* about racism, so an after an event that is tangentially related to the Confederacy, the pols are rushing for the low-hanging fruit. Much easier than trying to actually fix poverty, high crime, etc.

You know who else likes to tear down statutes and alter history books? Totalitarian regimes.
This country has a history — good and bad — the sum is what makes it what it is. Shunning context and denying the bad parts is intellectually vapid. But they seem to be the ones running the show.

      • Myiq2xu says:

There was a Pope who went around the Vatican with a hammer busting the penises off of statues. There was a Frenchman who went around Chitzen Itza with dynamite blowing up “heathen” artwork of the Mayas.

The Taliban and ISIS didn’t invent that kind of stuff. I just never imagined I would see it in this country.

      • leslie says:

ISIS recently blew up 2 mausoleums in Palmyra. Maybe Landrieu would like to hire a couple to rid his city of its memorials.

  3. DandyTIger says:

The level of hate humor spewed by the hate “comedy” stooges seems to directly feed the vast unwashed vile progs. Facebook and other social media is full of hit pieces, outright lies, and just vile hate articles that are forwarded and laughed about. They are like little angry children bullies wanting to abuse, ridicule, and destroy people outside of their little clubhouse. Right now they seem to be foaming at the mouth crazy with race baiting and wanting to get revenge and “justice” for imagined crimes. The latest crazy is wanting to tear down any and all civil war memorials, graves, statues in the country. And that’s starting to expand to founding father memorials and statues and the like if they were slave owners, including open talk about destroying Thomas Jefferson statues, the memorial in DC, and his home Monticello. Vile progs have gone past being a joke themselves and are moving into terrorism territory.

    • Lulu says:

Well, we did away with lunatic asylums so cause and effect and all that.

      • DandyTIger says:

They’ll remind us frequently that it was Reagan that did that. I don’t even bother to correct them any more. Facts are not relavent to their mission.

    • elliesmom says:

I was lambasted elsewhere for suggesting the Confederate flag was just the beginning, but it was a no-brainer. The anti-south bigotry runs deep in the north. Hopefully, they’ll leave fried chicken alone- as long as it has no trans-fats.

    • DandyTIger says:

After memorials, statues, and graves will be the book burning.

      • elliesmom says:

They’re going after the movie version of “Gone with the Wind”.

        • leslie says:

Does that mean I can’t download it anymore? What if it’s stored in my “cloud”? And what about those people who say GWTW is their favorite movie and have named their daughters Tara? Will those girls/women have to change their names? Will there be a “camp” for GWTW fanatics?

      • Lulu says:

My son who lives in NYC wants me to come visit him but I’m afraid I will be murdered because of my accent. And no I’m not kidding. We may meet him in Canada later this summer where I will feel safe. I’m also in the process of switching all business out of anything outside of the south. Since my NY brokerage house generally thinks popular culture threats to kill me is just dandy they were kind of gobsmacked when I told them to get ready to transfer everything to Texas brokers. A guy from NY is being sent to try to change my mind. Good luck sir. It isn’t cute and cool and funny anymore when the money leaves. I was very disturbed in 2008 but it has only gotten worse and I’m not going to be talked out of my intuition anymore. I’m far from rich but I have some small influence and a capital flight out of the north they do not want.

        • DandyTIger says:

I think you’re being reasonably cautious. Of course I hope the mob crazy passes and we get back to some sanity. But sometimes mobs keep going past the original purpose of stoking violence and flames and hate for political purposes.

          • Myiq2xu says:

If I had any I would invest some of my savings into gold. And guns.

Shit is getting ugly out there.

          • 1539days says:

One of the big gun manufacturers is in my neck of the woods. After the NY SAFE Act, they started moving operations to Alabama. Elections (and dumb legislation) have consequences.

        • lizzy says:

Stick to your guns. Mayor Billie dB is an Obama wanna be. Complete and utter race baiting fool. I’ve lived in NYC since 1974 which was the bad old days of high crime and near municipal bankruptcy. It’s not quite so dirty but crime is coming back in a big way and taxes are going up. Get your money out.

    A really good article.
look what is NOT being talked about with all the hate speech and so called humor. Wonder why?

  6. helenk3 says:

Photo: ‘Black Lives Matter’ spray-painted on base of Jefferson Davis monument in Richmond, Va. – @RobCardwellCBS6

    • DandyTIger says:

There’s a whole street, monument avenue, that’s full of civil war statues. I don’t think they’re going to survive. Wonder if the mob crazy will drive businesses away at some point, and then Richmond will start looking like Detroit. Hard to imagine my town going that route, but I wouldn’t be surprised either.

    • DandyTIger says:

I think he means burn GWTW, not retire. Come on, if you’re into the whole mob crazy violence thing, do it right.

      • lizzy says:

If they want to get rid of GWTW all they need is an original nitrate print. Run that and it will probably blow up like a bomb. Get rid of the movie and any poor slobs stupid enough to watch it. Personally I thought GWTW was a piece of trash. What sane woman would prefer another man to Clark Gable? They pretty much lost me at the little flirty girls with their beaus at the plantation. My personal dislike of the five hour monstrosity does not mean I would ban it though.

        • angienc says:

Especially for that drip Leslie Howard! LOL
It’s just like Ilsa getting on the plane with Victor at the end of Casablanca instead of staying with Rick/Humphrey Bogart: PURE FICTION!!!

NAH they can’t be trying to instigate race problems in this country can they? Must be my imagination

  10. helenk3 says:

    just wondering

since American history seems to be under attack and to some such a terrible thing, is July 4th the next thing to be banned? The state dept already changed the celebration due to a muslim holiday.
Now that the American flag is under attack by some “so called americans” is the holiday far behind?

It’s in the North so it is good. Vicksburg is bad so close it. I’m sure our elite betters will tell us soon what is acceptable and what isn’t.

        • helenk3 says:

When you go to Gettysburg Battle Field there is a feeling of sadness there. It is hallowed ground, paid for by the lives of soldiers from both sides.

          • Lulu says:

Vicksburg is the same. The northern states built huge monuments to their fallen soldiers as did the southern states for their lost ones. The local cemetery association places flowers on Memorial Day at ALL monuments. That seems difficult for Vile Progs to understand.

  15. foxyladi14 says:

    Nuther one. 😀

  16. elliesmom says:

I’m actually not all that worried about this nonsense about the Confederate flag and all things southern. We’ve been waiting for the tipping point, and this might just be it. The South hasn’t been this strong economically in awhile. The last couple of winters and unemployment in the North have driven population in that direction. If any people know how to say enough is enough, it’s our southern half. What did Rahm say? Never let a good crisis go to waste? I think the northern liberals might be in for some “Bless your hearts, dears, but that’s not the way it’s done here in the USA.” I can hear that coming from my dear Aunt Betty’s lips in her South Carolina drawl. 😉 “Keep this up and yer gonna get yer ass whupped.”

All this purging continues to smack of Mao’s Red Guard tactics . This completely stems from Obama’s massive ego. Just as the Red Guard was spurred on by Mao’s approval, Obama continues to endorse the more radical Vile Prog reactionary stance. It gets him off..
These so called progressives approve of the only POTUS in our history who has taken the power to assassinate anyone he deems an enemy, without that person having any recourse, legal or otherwise. That isn’t progressive, it is totalitarian. It isn’t about history, or accuracy, it is about power, and Obama has been a power grabber from the very beginning.
I think that is why the purging thing is so frightening. It doesn’t do any good to ask when will it end, because there is no end, but gaining power. It isn’t rooted in finding a solution to anything.

it is no wonder the “humor” coming from them is grim , disgusting and steeped in ridicule. It is bully humor, meant to intimidate and render the victim powerless. It doesn’t even come close to true humor.
