So yesterday I see this:
Comedy isn’t easy, but it should be funny.
Kaili Joy Gray (aka “angrymouse”) is a former Cheeto blogger who went pro. She lives somewhere in the East Bay Area kin or around the People’s Republic of Berkeley. She’s an editor for Wonkette, which is supposedly a liberal/progressive webzine that does humor and satire.
I’ve never found them amusing. I’ve never found her amusing either. If you don’t believe me, see for yourself.
She is not unique. These says the Left’s idea of humor seems to be “Republicans are stupid! Ha ha!!” That pretty much describes Jon Stewart’s The Daily Show and all of it’s spin-offs too.
Humor often mocks and makes fun of ourselves and other people. But it’s good natured and not intended to hurt anyone. Hate-humor is not good natured but is instead based on anger, contempt and loathing of the person being targeted. It is intended to otherize, ostracize and identify outsiders.
I first noticed the undercurrent of hate, anger and contempt in Lefty humor during the 2008 Democrat primary. Obama supporters were angry (and creepy) as hell. Remember when Randi Rhodes called Hillary a “big fucking whore?”
Air America host Randi Rhodes called both Geraldine Ferraro and Hillary Clinton “whores” in a recent appearance, seen below. Rhodes, who hosts a weekday radio show on Air America, said to the cheering crowd, “What a whore Geraldine Ferraro is! She’s such a fucking whore!” She then proceeded to say, “Hillary is a big fucking whore, too” to a mixed audience reaction. “You know why she’s a big fucking whore? Because her deal is always, ‘Read the fine print, asshole!'”
It is hard to describe the difference between comedy and hate-humor. It’s not so much in the actual words but in the spirit in which they are delivered. When you poke fun at yourself people generally don’t get the feeling that you loath yourself.
If a comedian singled you out at a comedy show you might feel embarrassed by the attention. If a Vile Prog like Kaili Joy Gray singled you out at a rally or the annual Nutroots Nation convention, you would feel threatened instead.
And if you complained they would reply “We were just joking!”
