LOL, a local story goes national. In related news, hope VM had a great trip and smooth drop off for her new college kid 🙂

Ha! From the comments: I’m just surprised everything was spelled correctly…

The fraternity was suspended?!! They need to be given an American Comedy Award. Those few signs are funnier than anything being done on late-night comedy shows.

      • DeniseVB says:

We guffawed over it remembering our college days in the 60’s, then feeling thankful our son is long out of college too. I’m sure Animal House and Revenge of the Nerds couldn’t be made today. The very people slamming these kids once laughed at those movies too!

I mourn the loss of humor in our country.

    • swanspirit says:

If that frat was suspended for that, I guess it means no one can have any fun anymore. For what is supposed to be a sexually “liberated” country, some people are still uptight a-holes.
Meanwhile, back in NYC we have naked boobies in Times Square.

      • DeniseVB says:

ODU is a good school in an urban setting. Most local kids use it as their “safety” school if they can’t get into UVA or Tech. It’s really not known as a party school since it’s mostly used by commuter students and why I find it so funny in that nerdy way.

    • DeniseVB says:

This is probably why so many are backing Trump, this …..

But the Iran Lobby’s biggest wins weren’t Markey or Shaheen. The real victory had come long before when two of their biggest politicians, Joe Biden and John Kerry, had moved into prime positions in the administration. Not only IAPAC, but key Iran Lobby figures had been major donors to both men.

      ……has got to stop !

I just heard the panel on Morning Joe say that once the other candidates drop out and the race is down to Trump and Jeb – Jeb will have it made. I’m not so sure about that. In the meantime, things are getting personal between them.

    • Lulu says:

In the old days you got off your ass and went to someone’s office to tell them something. No worries unless the office was bugged then you went outside to avoid eavesdroppers both electronic and just plain old nosy.

Well I just shifted all my retirement that was in government bonds into the SP/500 option so it better go up (I’ll settle for slowly over the next 2 years). Who knows what will happen but this looks like the best buy opportunity in the last few years so I’m giving it a try.

      • DeniseVB says:

Slow is good. The experts say long term investors won’t be affected ? My only experience was investing in mutual funds in the 70’s, had we kept them, we’d owe them money now. We quickly returned to a low, but safe, interest credit union. Probably just a step up from stuffing cash under the mattress 🙂

That is a lovely tin foil hat, just the thing for a committed conspiracy believer. I want it.

That idiocy will be his undoing, pointing out his major flaw. He’s a shark. Sharks are powerful but predictable. They go by instinct, as does Trump. Some humans are capable of strategizing how to use that instinct to the shark’s disadvantage. Then the shark loses.

I think I missed something. Was Megyn back last night ? Trump doesn’t usually reload unless there’s a reason. Bashing FNC personalities will only endure him to the ‘bots who are not thrilled with their pickings so far 😉

      • NewOrleans says:

Yeah, Denise, she got back from ’emergency’ vacation last night and had her usual suspects going after Trump. Again. She’s proving to be a not-so-smart teleprompter-reader. Her viewers – and Trump – are responding.

  15. Myiq2xu says:

In a statement, Trump said he “totally disagrees” with Ailes and said he does not think Kelly is a “quality journalist”:

“I totally disagree with the FOX statement. I do not think Megyn Kelly is a quality journalist. I think her questioning of me, despite all of the polls saying I won the debate, was very unfair. Hopefully in the future I will be proven wrong and she will be able to elevate her standards to a level of professionalism that a network such as FOX deserves,” Trump said.

Trump said that what’s more improtant are his high poll numbers.

“More importantly, I am very pleased to see the latest polls from Public Policy Polling showing me at a strong number one with 35% in New Hampshire and the Monmouth University poll showing me, again at number one, with 30% in South Carolina. It was also just announced that I won the prestigious corn kernel poll at the Iowa State Fair by a landslide,” he said. “I will be in Iowa tonight with my speech being live on CNN and other networks. My sole focus in running for the Presidency is to Make America Great Again!”

    Well, okay then.

    • Somebody says:

You know I like Trump’s immigration plan, it’s the first immigration plan I’ve seen that I could support. I simply do not support anchor babies or amnesty. In fact I prefer the Australian method of never allowing citizenship to anyone found in their country illegally. A nation without borders is not a nation, IMHO.

I like a lot of Trump’s ideas with regard to the economy, although logistically I’m not sure all of his ideas can work. However, his ego is just too much for me. He seems more thin skinned than Obama if that is possible. He may have a legitimate beef with Megyn Kelly regarding the debate, but calling her names is beneath anyone seeking the highest office in the land. Furthermore if he can’t handle a little roughing up from Megyn Kelly how in the hell is he going to deal with foreign leaders? Is he going to get into a grade school brawl with Putin??

      • Dora says:

“A nation without borders is not a nation”. – I so agree with that statement. Our sovereignty is the most important issue IMO. All of the verbal insults are just part of the political game. They mean nothing if we no longer have a country.

      • leslie says:

Just wait until MoDo gets a hold of him. This re-attack of Megyn Kelly is definitely a bad thing for Trump. Even the Chicago news is focused on his difficulties with news reporters. It is now Megyn, as well as Ramos of Univision.

        • Myiq2xu says:

With any other candidate it would be a problem, but the normal rules don’t apply to Donald Trump.

        • elliesmom says:

I loved what he did to Ramos. You raise your hand and wait to be called on just like all of the other reporters. There was no indication Trump wouldn’t have called on him if he had waited to be called on. As far as Megyn Kelly goes, a lot of people who had no idea who she was now do. The publicity hasn’t hurt her one bit. Who knows? Maybe she and Trump are in cahoots. 😉

    • DeniseVB says:

Ok, just caught up. I think I was sidetracked today, silly season indeed ……

  16. DeniseVB says:

Ok, who else needs a feel good story. Especially Tim Tebow fans ….

And congrats to the 49ers for making the playoffs in the pre-season ! /snork

    • NewOrleans says:

I have never understand people’s hatred of Tebow. He seems like such a good guy.

      • leslie says:

I know the only thing people here found fault with was his prayer on the field. I thought that was no different than baseball players and basketball players making the Sign of the Cross. An din Tebow’s case, it probably occurred far less frequently than in those other 2 sports.

    • 49erDweet says:

Man! Talk about clickbait. That link was 90 seconds of tease followed by nothing.

  17. NewOrleans says:

    New polls!

PPP: New Hampshire: Trump at 35%! Kasich at 11%. Fiorina at 10%.

Monmouth University: South Carolina: Trump 30%. Carson 15%. JEB! (no last name allowed) 9%.

Trump needs to send newsreader Megyn Kelly a gift basket. Or maybe a fruitcake.

I guess we should feel flattered, a new crayfish species was named after Snowden, because:

There’s a new crayfish species and it’s named after Edward Snowden
By Elahe Izadi August 25 at 2:44 PM

German researcher Christian Lukhaup is a pretty big Edward Snowden fan. So he decided to name a new species of crayfish after the former National Security Agency contractor.

The Cherax snowden, which doesn’t bear any particular resemblance to Snowden, lives in freshwater tributary creeks in West Papau, Indonesia. Lukhaup and two other researchers described the crayfish in an article published Monday by the journal ZooKeys.

Edward Snowden, photographed in Moscow in 2013. (Barton Gellman/For The Washington Post) Edward Snowden, photographed in Moscow in 2013. (Barton Gellman/For The Washington Post)
Lukhaup has named other species before, including earlier this year when he described the brightly colored Cherax pulcher in ZooKeys. In his latest paper, Lukhaup explained the new crayfish name, writing that Snowden is an “American freedom fighter” and “the name is used as a noun in apposition.”

[The newest crayfish species looks like a Lisa Frank creation]

The typical naming convention follows a genus-species construction, per International Code of Zoological Nomenclature guidelines, and researchers who describe species to science for the first time have free rein on naming rights.

“After describing a couple new species, I thought about naming one after Edward Snowden because he really impressed me,” Lukhaup, an independent researcher, told The Post. “We have so many species named after other famous people who probably don’t do so much for humanity. I wanted to show support for Edward Snowden. I think what he did is something very special.”

[A list of the well-known politicians who have defended Edward Snowden]

In 2013, Snowden leaked top-secret document caches to three journalists (including a Washington Post reporter), which led to a series of articles revealing the scope of the NSA’s surveillance program. Snowden is a controversial figure in the United States, where some have called for leniency and lauded him as a hero, while others have cast him as a criminal who put American security at risk.

But he enjoys wide support in Germany, where a Dresden square was named after the former contractor in June. Now, he gets his own crayfish.

[The global cult of Edward Snowden keeps growing]

“A crayfish is a powerful species; it’s protected by a very hard shell, plus it has two very effective chelae, the pincers, and even if they are tiny, [they] can hurt a lot,” Lukhaup said. “A crayfish lives under a rock. It has to hide from his enemies and he comes out in the night and he hunts, and he is protected by a shell.”

  20. DeniseVB says:

I feel special, just got an email from Obama’s dogs. Sigh.

    Dear Denise,

Dog days of summer? If that means carefree times in the White House enjoying the sun, running for a ball — yep, it’s great!

We’ve heard, however, that things might not be as fun with fundraising during these summer months.

So, we’re taking a quick break on this hot summer day to ask you to renew your support for the Democratic National Committee with a gift to the matching gift challenge. Any renewal gift you give between now and Aug 31st will be matched dollar for dollar.

In just over a year and a half, there’ll be a new family moving into the White House — and we hope they’re Democrats.

You can help by supporting the Democratic Party with whatever gift you can afford. Your renewal contribution will not only support a win for the White House and candidates up and down the ballot, but it will be doubled in impact.

We’ve got to get back to the summer fun. We hope you’ll quickly renew because the matching gift deadline is fast approaching.

    In dogged appreciation,
    Bo and Sunny (signatures)
    Chief Tail-Wagger and
    Secretary of Squirrel Chasing

Hey I got a phone call from the DSCC. They really really need to raise money for Russ Feingold’s campaign. I said I couldn’t contribute because of the lack of transparency on the Iran nuke deal. They just needed my money so they could take back the Senate. After that story about guards hauling Trump off the stage during the debate if they could bait him into it, he will never enter a Fox studio again. Fox has to talk to him on the phone so he can hang up if he wants. Or in Trump Plaza where they might get tossed down the escalator. Now Ailes has the sillies and says he is saving Murica! For who? Murdoch? I’ll pass. When you attempt a coup like the debate was planned, you better succeed or you have all kinds of problems. This plan was originally for Cruz but had to be modified which didn’t go so well. The second attempt is a thousand times harder if you even get a second attempt. Fox is now becoming perceived as the propaganda/hooligan arm of the establishment Republicans. They always were but now it is public. Bad for business. How far is Murdoch willing to go under the bus?

      • Lulu says:

I watched a clip. She kept interrupting him. She was hostile and impatient. The legal arguments are complex especially to a Senator who has argued before the Supremes. I’m not sure if he was bamboozling or trying to lay out a legal argument. Anyhow she wouldn’t let him get out a complete sentence. Or thought. She wanted a yes or no and sometimes it is neither. Or both. So I don’t know. I’m tired of her.

        • taw46 says:

I watched last night, and I agree with you. Megyn, to me, has changed. I have been watching her show since it came on. I liked her, because she gave people opportunity to respond, then asked the hard questions. Actually had a real discussion. Seems different in past months, more wanting a “gotcha moment”. Disappointed.

          • Lulu says:

Yeah. They have to interview at the level of the person they are talking to. Not everyone is smart enough to interview Cruz when he is talking “constitution”. I’d like to see him interviewed by Dershowitz not that I would understand them. I thought she sounded perhaps un-prepared and got mad because she goofed and took it out on him. She got mad and then he condescended to her sort of and she lost her shit. Been there, done that, got my butt handed to me. Never did it again.

        • Somebody says:

It seems clear to me that Megyn Kelly has her marching orders. She is charged with taking down certain candidates, but who gave her the marching orders? Who will she treat with kid gloves?? Time will tell.

All that being said I don’t like politicians that equivocate, answer the fucking question!

        • leslie says:

From what I saw, she was interrupting him because he clearly was not answering her question. I’d have liked it if she were less pushy last night and he were more forthright even to say he was unable to give her the kind of response she was looking for.
