Saturday Open Thread

Yesterday I learned that there is something called “Shopkins” and that kids love them. Today is Connor’s 4th birthday. I should have some pictures from his party to post tomorrow.

I am binge-watching Fargo Season One on DVD. BBT is awesome good.

How you doin’?

My Political Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PPTSD) is getting worse. I may have to drop Twitter for a few months.

Do it in style. Get yourself banned first.

    • leslie says:

IKWYM. I am on twitter less often and for shorter times. Mostly, I read and RT.
I think I, too have PPTSD. I stopped watching Megyn. I never watched Hannity, I’m not a fan of O’Reilly. I try to watch MJoe after I have coffee and I’m not babysitting that day. Nearly everyone sounds nuts to me.
Except – this morning – about 10 minutes ago, Trump was on F&F and he made me laugh out lot srsly! It feels as though he is toying with everyone. No one has anything on Trump. No one. I don’t know if I can vote for him in the GE; I also don’t know if I can’t vote for him. There is something compelling about him despite everything he says. (It’s really the way he says what he says.) For certain, I will vote for him in our “relegated to the trash heap” primary in March. Because #CAIR-ing.

I thought it was just me!
I found myself taking a break from Twitter when the conservatives started going after each other’s candidates.
I know I’ll be back eventually.

Surviving the Dem Wars of 2008 was good basic training to prepare for this election cycle. So far, as bad as the Cons are to each other, nothing will compare to the way Hillary and Edwards supporters were treated by the vile progs at dkos and du. We had to be exterminated ! No, I won’t forget 😉

Twitter’s All Right since I learned to do lists. 🙂

  3. Dora says:

She sure is an angel. What a beautiful child.

  4. Dora says:

Those words sound familiar. I thought this was a joke. What a disastrous campaign he is running. Have you all noticed that Jeb lost his exclamation point?

  5. Dora says:

I’m sure you won’t have any trouble thinking of someone who fits this description.

A post turtle is precisely that, one set upon a post in a somewhat balanced but precarious position.
The post turtle did not get up there by himself.
    He doesn’t belong up there.
He doesn’t know what to do while he is up there.
He is elevated above his ability to function.
You have to ask what kind of idiot would put him up there?

Trying very hard today to stay on the positive an upful side of life. Started yesterday by Unfriending all perceived bigots on my FB and started to see “friends” that I don’t even know who they are…they went first. Read this early today and found it insightful. Have a lovely week-end everybody and don’t worry too much about the trumpeting of America…it’s going to get way more exciting. My girlfriend and I just bought a 38 special for our Christmas present! Present arms!

    • votermom says:

Congrats on the purchase! Now you & gf can go on target shooting dates at the range!

      • driguana says:

Yes, it’ll be fun….she weighs all of 95 lbs and has never shot a rifle or pistol before. But the little S&W 38 Special revolver should be ok. We’ll see.

        • votermom says:

A revolver is good coz she doesn’t have to deal with pulling back the slide thingy which can be tricky for us gals who don’t have a lot of hand/arm strength.

      • Somebody says:

I can’t stand the indoor range, it’s too noisy and somewhat chaotic. I much prefer the outside range, it’s more spread out and quieter. That is an FYI for you driguana.

I’ve been around guns my entire life and been shooting since I was a kid, but always outdoors until recently. When hubby and I made our purchases a few years ago and went through the training to get our CC permits, hubby decided we need to go to the gun range at least once a month……ACK! Hubby enjoys it, but I go in long enough to empty a few magazines and I wait for him outside. Funny thing though, even though I don’t practice as much I’m as good and quite often a better shot than hubby.

I so regret not accepting the invitation from the dude who used to invite me to go do that.

    • DeniseVB says:

I know what you mean about FB “friends”, unfortunately most of mine are lofo family members who insist links to dkos or huffpoo are the word of God and politics.

      Enjoy your new “toys”. 🙂

    • leslie says:

Merry Christmas to you both !! 😉

    And have a Samba Saturday!

  9. leslie says:

Miss Lily and my little gbaby could be twins! Both are cuter than anything (Was gonna say “cuter than snot” but didn’t kow if that was anything anyone here had ever heard before. I didn’t want to insult.)

During my 15 minutes on twitter this morning, I saw this:

  12. Somebody says:

I had an interesting encounter the other day with a woman in Walmart. She was helping an elderly woman from the same facility where my MIL used to be and I stopped to chat for a moment.

Anyway when she found out my husband’s family was from the Atlantic City area she suddenly went on and on about Trump. She told me everybody she knows back home in the Atlantic City area is all in for Trump. That was surprising to hear, but completely unscientific.

This woman claims that she worked for Trump for 17 years in various positions at his casino. She gushed about what a great guy Trump is and how what you see is what you get, he’s the real deal. She said he treated everybody that worked for him with respect, whether you were a maid or a manager he talked to you the same. She said he was just as comfortable chatting with the casino floor workers, housecleaning staff or kitchen staff as he was with his management team.

She also relayed a story about some broken equipment just before a big event. She said lots of bosses would have come unglued, started screaming at the maintenance crew, etc. According to her Trump took off his jacket, rolled up his sleeves and got in the middle of it all. She said he didn’t know much about the work, but he knew he could hand the guys that did know the tools they needed and so that is what he did. In the end they got the equipment up and running and apparently Trump was high fiving the crew and later had a meeting thanking everyone for coming together to pull things off and had a special shout out for the maintenance crew.

This event happened many moons ago, but I thought it was an interesting insight if in fact the woman was honest and she had worked for him. I don’t know why she’d lie, but people can do strange things.

At this point I’m not all in for anybody, but there are some I flat refuse to support.

    • DeniseVB says:

I still miss Perry and Walker, my early favorites, but if I can’t have my first picks, I’ll go with bombastic and yuuuge. Gonna need that after 7 years of Obama rewarding failure and punishing success. Trump is the polar opposite of jug ears 😉

    • helenk3 says:

that is not what my youngest daughter tells me. She worked for Trump in Atlantic City and said he was the worst employer down there. Cheap beyond belief. Cleaning crews had to fight over who got a bucket to do their job.. Worst health insurance of any casino.

    • piper says:

My concern is that people are falling again for a bombastic narcissist who spouts superficially about troubling issues with no real ideas / plans to address them. People need to take off the rose colored glasses and examine Trump’s past behavior to see who he really is – he’s not the caped crusader his fans make him out to be. This country cannot endure another bullshitter for even 4 years.
      End of rant!

      • Somebody says:

Personally I think every single candidate is short on details and plans.

I agree with you about the cult of personality thing with Trump. As for narcissist, well that pretty much describes any politician they all have some degree of narcissism it’s the nature of the beast.

I’m sitting back waiting for the chips to fall personally. There isn’t a single one of those currently in the race on either side that makes me want to jump up and shout “That’s my guy/gal!”

I believe Prince Alwaleed donates a lot of money to the Clinton Foundation. For philanthropic reasons, of course, but I have to wonder if he is working for Hillary. Why else would he butt in to our presidential race?

This cracked me up, “The John Edwards Democrats” is now a demo group the #CruzCrew have on their wish list 🙂

  16. Dora says:

Kasich can’t win to save his life. Every attempt to bash Trump gets turned around on him.

A Super PAC supporting Gov. John Kasich launched an online game called “Put a Steak in Trump,” and features a Trump-head going around eating steaks and being chased by “Truth.”

The game allows users to put in their name if they get a top score. Problem is Trump supporters infiltrated the game and started getting top scores.

Now, the leader board looks like this:

I locked myself in my Mom Cave today to finish Christmas shopping online. This is all I’ve accomplished so far, I’m such a Trumpkin, though more a Trump/Cruz2016-2032 as we hurtle towards the sun as Obama/Kerry/every Obot wants us to believe 😉

Ok back to shopping, I think 😉 Spring fever is trumping Holiday Cheer, windows open, curtains flapping, in the 70’s, should be in the 50’s this time of year in the Tidewater swamp.

Lily is as lovely as her name especially with sparkles 😀

    ❤ the Lily!

  19. Dora says:

Denise – I just went over there to check. I love all the pictures. They sure are one big happy family. It will be nice to have them in Washington. We haven’t had such glamour in the WH since the Kennedy’s 🙂

This article is from yesterday. Hillary tried to blame the weather for her lateness, but that excuse didn’t work. It was warm and sunny in NY. Liar, liar, pants on fire. She must be running out of pants. 🙂

Crowd GROANS – WALKS OUT When Hillary Camp Announces She Is Running 2 Hours Late (Video)

Hillary Clinton was scheduled to speak in Oklahoma today this afternoon but was running late.
The campaign blamed weather in New York City.

    • DeniseVB says:

I saw that last night…fog dispersed at the NYC area airports at sunrise, 15 minute delays at max, not 2 hour. Or as one tweethead said, “Hillary seamlessy moving to Obama’s third term”. Meanwhile, Air Trumpkin was moving about the country and showing up ontime at his rallies. 😛

  20. Dora says:

This is disgraceful! Just so insulting!

“Ins’Allah!”: Obama Chanukah Party Attacks Islamophobia, Calls for “Justice” for Palestinians

“I stand here to light these lights to say no the darkness of Islamophobia”

    • Somebody says:

That is disgusting and went too far, totally disrespectful of the people there, our Jewish citizens and our ally Israel. I shudder to think what the final Obama administration Chanukah celebration will be like.

  21. gram krakka says:

I’m gonna go out on a limb & predict that Cruz will win the Republican Iowa caucus.

Trump will have to attack him soon. Will be interesting to see how Cruz responds.

I also expect Cruz will be challenged about whether he meets the natural born citizen constitutional requirement. Surely he has prepared himself to respond to that challenge. If he hasn’t, then he isn’t as smart as I think he is.

    • DandyTIger says:

No challenge, it’s not an issue. Any more than it was for McCain.

      • gram krakka says:

It in fact may not be an issue, but may still be challenged, if for no other reason than to serve as a distraction and or bring attention to his father. Hell, wouldn’t surprised if Trump brings it up. Trump was quite the “birther” about Obama.

By the way, as an independent, I have no dog in this race. I’m just enjoying the spectacle and speculating about the outcome. I prefer any of the Repubs to any of the Dems, including Rand Paul for god’s sake. Was for Hillary in 2008. Too bad she sold her soul for mere money. Other than Chelsea and Huma, where on this planet are women and children better off as a result of her being SOS?

      • Somebody says:

The issue of Cruz’s natural born status has been floating around for a while on the left, same for Marco Rubio. Should either of them look to be close to securing the nomination or chosen for the VP slot, I expect the issue to become part of the 24/7 news cycle.

I hadn’t thought about Trump bringing it up, but in some ways if he did he might be crazy like a fox. Trump and Cruz seem to have an agreement of sorts ever since their little meeting, some think they plan to become a ticket together. If they truly do have an agreement, then Trump could head off the natural born citizen thing by bringing it up himself. If Trump brought it up, even the most lefty of lefts would scream from the rooftops that Cruz is natural born and Trump is a mean, crazy, bigot for even thinking such things.

    • Dora says:

I guess it could happen, but I hope you’re wrong. 🙂

      Donald J. Trump Verified account

New CNN Iowa poll — Trump 33, Cruz 20. Everyone else way down! Don’t trust Des Moines Register poll- biased towards Trump!

  22. Jadzia says:

So I have found an awesome use for that FB “find your friends who like Donald Trump and unfriend them!” program. I have now “liked’ Donald Trump on FB(*) and am waiting for all of my asshole friends who decide to hate people based on their political views…. to unfriend me. SO EFFICIENT!

(*)Notwithstanding the fact that actually, I can’t stand Donald Trump.

  23. Jadzia says:

Klown, wait until you get to Season 2 of Fargo! Kirsten Dunst and Jean Smart and Ted Danson (really!) are freaking AMAZING. The Breaking Bad reunion continues, with Jesse Plemons cast as one of the main characters. It’s criminal how few people are watching this show.

  24. Myiq2xu says:

I just woke up slumped in my desk chair after an unplanned two-hour “nap”. My first words upon waking were “OW OW OW FUCK ME OW!”

I did not drink or use drugs yesterday.

  25. Dora says:

This really pees me off! Not just the bogus poll, but the way the rest of the media jump on it as if it’s accurate. Why don’t they report the rest of the polls? Honest media – was there ever such a thing?

    • cynic says:

This poll, with Cruz’s lead will be the headline on all the Sunday morning news programs.

Every day, I hate the media even more.

  26. Dora says:

Here are the lineups. The Donald is only going to be on 2 of them? Oh shucks. 🙂

Guest lineups for the Sunday news shows

  27. Dora says:

I do like this poll much better. 🙂
