National Hug Day Open Thread

Free hugs

I recommend you get written permission before you hug anyone, especially if you are on a college campus. A friendly hug of your coworkers can boost morale, but it will also get you fired.

common core = human excrement. the fact that is taught in schools is proof positive the devil is winning. why don’t we just give kids loaded handguns, vodka, and tell them to watch tv 24/7. oh, wait, we pretty much already do. SAD and we wonder why our young want to kill us.

    • DeniseVB says:

Didn’t Jimmy Carter start the DOE ? I think it can go along with Common Core and the Teachers’ Union. Also, DHS, we’re really not safer, just more confuzzled. And I’m definitely an advocate of Fair Tax, which demolishes the IRS. More power back to the states!

      • elliesmom says:

Carter started both the Department of Energy and the Department of Education. I strongly believe in a common core of knowledge for our schools. No one should graduate unable to read, write, and balance a checkbook. The rest is best left up to the local schools. I have some hope, just a little, a Supreme Court decision that’s coming might free teachers from being obligated to pay money into a union. If that happens, teachers’ unions will lose any power they have to influence anything.

        • Kathy says:

Our teachers union is useless, rather less than useless. NE Florida .. Not mandatory to join but they tout the benefits of being a member..again, not worth the money. Plus, we were not allowed. To leverage and anytime I complained….nothing ever happened..ever. It became a life time job for union leaders and we all felt they were in bed with the administration..ergo, don’t rock their boat.

This is weird. Aissa Wayne (John’s daughter) started following me on Twitter ? Then noticed she “replied” to me, and I can’t find the mother thread. Then some nasty person replied to both of us? The Aissa account is not verified. I’m still looking for that mother thread…..will update when I can figure it out……believe me, I’m not that BIG or influencial on twitter, lol !

    • DeniseVB says:

That “I’m Back” person seems dedicated to just trashing Trump ? I’m used to Trump bashing on twitter (and why I kick-re-started my blog for me and his “supporters”, a Safe Space if you will😉 ). With hopes this will help Helen and Piper, not to love Trump, but understand his supporters. Brutal.

      • helenk3 says:

I believe everyone is entitled to their own opinion on what candidate to vote for and to work for.
I have my own reasons for not liking Trump . Other people have their reasons for liking him.

          Vjva La Difference!!! 😀

        • DeniseVB says:

I guess I’m not in the camp that posts hatey stuff. Helen, if you were supporting, say, Kasich, and I called him a “lower than pond scum” candidate, rather than express “why” I wasn’t supporting him, wouldn’t you think less of my opinion ?

          • helenk3 says:

I am sorry if you thought my post last thread was a hate thing. I read it and thought that is was interesting history. It was something that was not common knowledge.

what I consider hatey stuff is the post that is on facebook about Woody Guthrie and Trump’s father and a song Guthrie wrote and did not publish, I do not think it is relevant today

          • helenk3 says:

I am sorry if you thought the link I posted downstairs was a hate thing. I read it and thought is was some historical information that was not common knowledge

        • DeniseVB says:

Helen, I was responding to your comment you posted here.

      • elliesmom says:

I’m still in the “wait and see” group, and I appreciate being able to see both sides of the Trump debate. RI’s primary comes after Super Tuesday so I expect the primaries to be mostly decided by the time I get to weigh in. I ask a lot of questions in an informal “Feel the Bern” group, and they’ve decided I’m trolling them. Maybe I am, but it’s not on purpose. I don’t want to write the folks there off as only wanting free stuff because several of the people there won’t benefit from any of it and will be paying for most of it. I’m really interested in what the appeal is. They were particularly annoyed when I suggested making public universities and colleges free would increase the competition to get in, making them less accessible than they are now for a lot of folks. Today they’re all excited about the new Sanders ad. But when I pointed out it emphasized how old Sanders is, they went ballistic. Yet as someone who is unaffiliated and undecided, I should be someone he and they are recruiting. Preaching to the choir doesn’t up church attendance. At this point the race is likely to be between Trump or Cruz and Hillary or Sanders. Things could change before we actually get there so I want as much information as I can get.

That’s why God created the “Block” button.

        • DeniseVB says:

My conundrum is why am I being followed by Aissa Wayne, why did she respond to me, for reasons unknown, and why did we both get trolled ? I know how to use “block” and ain’t afraid to use it😉

Last night I put my garbage cans out by the curb because Thursday is trash day. The trucks usually come early in the morning, sometimes as early as 7 am. After checking my cans (and my neighbor’s) several times today I was wondering why they still had not been emptied.

Then I remembered that Monday was a holiday. Trash day is tomorrow this week.

    • elliesmom says:

While I never would have guessed it, one of the things I love about moving to the boonies is having a dump to go to. It’s just a little more than a mile away. Not really a dump. It’s a transfer station. Nice and clean. Doesn’t stink. A circular driveway with stops for recycling along the way. Not too far out of the way on a trip to other places, and trash day is any day I want it to be. And it’s free! Where we lived before, trash cost $2/bag, and recycling was free. But they only picked up recycling every two weeks. By the end of the second week, the recycling could get to be quite a lot of stuff. And I usually forgot about the holiday thing, too.

      • 1539days says:

I have to pay $2 a bag at the Transfer station, but I would have to pay for a private hauler anyway. Or I drop it off at a friend’s house who does have trash pickup.

    New Poll Results!

Donald Trump, Bernie Sanders hold solid leads in Iowa, CNN/ORC poll finds

    • elliesmom says:

I think a Trump/Sanders race would be interesting. Two old white guys, one looking forward and one looking back. Trump says he wants to make America great again, but doesn’t suggest taking us back to the good old days. It’s more of a let’s move forward, but in a different direction. Bernie, on the other hand, is suggesting we need to go back to the 60’s and do a reset. This time he wants to get it right. His choice of a Simon and Garfunkel song from the late 60’s for his new ad is a tell. Given how much the millennials hate the boomers, I find their attachment to Bernie interesting. They seem to want a chance to go back in time and be us, and Bernie is the ticket. I think Trump would probably get most of the older vote. Rather than a race thing or a feminist thing, the election would pit the generations against each other more than other elections in my lifetime have. With two senior citizens leading the charge!

    • DeniseVB says:

That Drudge Poll you posted downstairs had a coupla hundred thousand responses (and yes, I tested it, couldn’t vote twice)….it seemed to agree with the “official” pollsters who sample a few hundred….

  7. taw46 says:

So, if Bernie really holds leads in NH and Iowa, and he wins, what do you think the Dems do? If Hill’s numbers continue to tank, do they stay with her? Or, do they bring in Biden or Warren, or both?

    • elliesmom says:

I think we see a Biden/Warren ticket. Biden has the national resources to ramp up faster than she could, but he’d need her to get Bernie’s youth vote.

      • taw46 says:

        No, did not see.

      • taw46 says:

I think that would be the two they would choose. I just wonder when they would decide to “dump” Hillary. Of if they will. If Obama wants to get rid of her, all he has to do is have Justice Department file charges. I just wonder, will the Dems really run an avowed Socialist?

      • DeniseVB says:

I’ve thought Biden/Warren since last spring/summer, and back to fall/winter. Why am I smarter than the Hillary Camp?😛

      • Myiq2xu says:

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Hillary drop out and the DEMe anoint Biden to take her place.

He wouldn’t even have to campaign for the nomination.

What if she is charged by the FBI?

        • taw46 says:

But FBI can’t charge, only issue damaging report, right? Doesn’t DOJ have to charge? Will Obama have them do that? So, if that happens, I think Biden gets anointed. Not before. I don’t think they would let Bernie run as their nominee. Not a Socialist (even though they are all Communists, lol).

          • elliesmom says:

That and Bernie isn’t really a Democrat. TBH, I’m not sure how he’s gets on the Democratic ballot if he’s not a Democrat. I haven’t been able to get an answer for that one.

          • taw46 says:

That is a good point, em. I have wondered that as well. Let me know if you ever get an answer.

    • leslie says:

Were you watching Morning Joe today? That was a question they had as well. or perhaps it was the Kelly File last night.

I’m going to actually enjoy the tears of the Rubio (and Cruz) supporters when they realize that the choice is, was, and always has been Jeb! or Trump.

    • DeniseVB says:

I don’t think anyone should drop out before IOWA. We’re still in the First Quarter kids❤

Just watched an old movie on TCM called Foreign Correspondent. I didn’t catch the start, but early enough that I got the story. Made in 1940, black and white, and I’m thinking Wow, this is really good! Very suspenseful. Turns out it’s an Alfred Hitchcock film.
