“Tuck Rule” Tom Brady will be facing Peyton Manning in Denver for what will probably be the last time the two men face each other in a game. There is another game after that one. The two winning teams go to Superbowl L in Silicon Valley’s Levi’s Stadium.

I was up late drinking cheap wine and binge-watching Harry Potter.

On Friday the grocery store was loaded with shrimp trays, pepperoni and cheese slices, and prepared veggies and dip. Football cakes and cookies. Lots of folks passing them by because the weather forecasts were all over the place. People waiting to see if their guests would be dug out enough to come to a party. The grocery store will be mobbed pre-game.

Boston is the only city in New England large enough to host major league teams so moving to RI kept me surrounded by “Patriot Fever”. Connecticut splits. The CT folks like my BIL who lives in New Haven are New Yorkers when it comes to sports, but not the whole state. My favorite football parties are hosted by a friend who grew up in Wisconsin. When the Packers make the play-offs, she throws legendary cheese parties. In the years between his marriages, my brother who was a sports editor for a newspaper, used my house to throw his Super Bowl parties. When there’s that kind of enthusiasm surrounding you, it’s hard not to get caught up. Today I’ll probably read a book. 😉

Here in Norcal there are two football teams – the Raiders and the Niners. When I was a kid the Raiders were always winning and the Niners were always losing, so you can guess which team had the most fans. Then the Raiders moved away and stopped winning just about the time the Niners were making the playoffs every year and winning 5 Superbowls.

Those were the dark years. It was hard to find Raiders shirts and hats, and they all said “Los Angeles” on them.

Then the Raiders moved back but kept losing, and the Niners got shitty too. Lots of fans of other teams now.

      • Myiq2xu says:

When the Raiders moved back my best friend and me had a ceremony where we burned everything we had that said “Los Angeles Raiders.”

If they move again, fuck ’em.

The big storm got to 40 inches in some parts of VA and WV. We got about 18 inches here in C’Ville with snowing finally stopping yesterday early evening. Today I have an appointment with a shovel and some snow. Definitely not in a hurry, so will take my time.

  5. DandyTIger says:

Apparently Glenn Beck and Ted Cruz got married yesterday in a lovely ceremony. There wasn’t a dry eye in the place.

    • elliesmom says:

Truly, what was Ted Cruz thinking? The number of votes that got him pales in comparison to the number of people who now think he’s nuts.

      • Somebody says:

I have no idea what Ted Cruz was thinking, all I know is that it sends out big red flags. I suppose there was a segment of Iowa he was going for, but boy talk about not seeing the forest for the trees. Perhaps they love Beck in Iowa, but he doesn’t play so well in a lot of other parts of the country……parts with large numbers of electoral votes.

        • 1539days says:

I think the average person is indifferent to Glenn Beck. The average Republican is neutral on Sarah Palin. I don’t think she’s going to help Trump after the nomination and Beck won’t help Cruz much at all.

          • elliesmom says:

My mom used to caution me about being judged by the company you keep. If the KKK decides to endorse someone without being asked, I don’t pay much attention to that. But if someone seeks out their endorsement, I do sit up and take notice. When Trump went after Palin’s endorsement, I knew whose votes he was going after, and love or hate Palin, she’s popular with people Trump needs. I’m not sure Beck can bring Cruz enough votes to make going after his endorsement a smart move.

          • 1539days says:

Trump sought out favors from Hillary Clinton, so I’m not too concerned abut Beck.

        • lyn says:

I think the House and Senate Republicans want to keep their “power,” and they are willing to screw any Republican presidential candidate to do so.

    • DandyTIger says:

No longer looking like a 3, or even 2 man race. It’s a one man race.

      • Somebody says:

It’s too early to call it anything yet, 34% does not a nomination make. It’s still a race because the non Trump voters are going to go somewhere. Rubio and beyond makes up 40% in that poll, that’s basically 40% establishment and that total is more than Trump is polling. Those establishment voters are hanging on to anybody but Trump or Cruz. They had been giving Cruz a look, but now that he’s hitched up with Beck he can forget about them.

        • DandyTIger says:

The problem for anyone other than Trump is that no one is dropping out of the race. I think even after SC, most of these people will still be in the race. The new “firewall” strategy since they’ve already given up winning is for everyone to stay in hoping Trump doesn’t get over 50%.

          • Somebody says:

OMG, is that really a strategy? That’s a bad strategy, it will tear the party apart.

          • lyn says:

The GOPe is as nuts Beck.

          • 1539days says:

Trump needs more than 50% just to get the nomination. I don’t know one Republican candidate that isn’t against Trump winning, or whom Trump hasn’t attacked. It’s pretty clear that the GOP could live with a brokered convention if it means the 51+% non-Trump delegates get behind a single person.

He also has big negatives among Democrats AND Independents. Trump could very well end up with Perot numbers in the general election.

          • elliesmom says:

We’ll know better how Trump will fare with independents after a couple of open primaries. Just anecdote, but all of the people I know who would vote for Trump over either Hillary or Bernie are independents.

          • lyn says:

It shows how much big money is behind the other GOP candidates. I agree with elliesmom about Trump and independents. We’ll know soon enough if the GOPe’s Trump takedown attempt works. My GOP protest vote for president has ended if it does.

    • elliesmom says:

Both George W and Bill Clinton were born the very first year of the baby boom, making them marginally boomers. Obama was born in 1961 on the other edge of the boom. We really haven’t had a POTUS solidly from the Boom yet. Trump was born the same year as George W. and Bill Clinton. A solid boomer would be 60-68 today. Hillary probably comes closest among those with a chance to win. I have older brothers at the very beginning of the boom, and my baby brother is Obama’s age. By the “Summer of Love”, the older ones were married with kids, and the younger one was still in elementary school. I was off to college that fall. Their experiences as part of the boom were very different from mine.

      • Somebody says:

You are so correct EM. The boomer generation is so large and covers such a wide time frame that the older, middle and younger boomers are all subset generations of their own.

I’ve never cared for the way SNL portrays Palin. This was a very interesting skit though. They could have played it several different ways, but the way they did it was as though Trump wasn’t really a Palin lover. Trump hurled the insults and Trump and the audience were “in” on the jokes. It comes off as pro-Trump or at least anything but Trump bashing. Then at the end you find out Palin isn’t pro Trump she just wants a position should he win. Seems SNL is playing it a little safe.

“What I find most amazing is that our best contenders for the leader of the most powerful country in the world are the following:

A lying, bribe taking, grandmother, who let four Americans be killed and lied about it, gave top secret info to our enemies and should be in prison.

An admitted communist who is certifiably insane and has told us in quite clear detail he will take this country into communism.

A Canadian…a CANADIAN, who forgets about millions of dollars someone gave him. (What…not enough qualified American politicians)

And a bazillionaire who has proven successful at almost everything he has touched, owes no one a single dime or favor for his candidacy, and LOVES AMERICA.

Wow, I just can not decide who to vote for”.

I can’t control what the Republicans are doing. But I know what the facts are and I will just keep putting them out there. This is something that I think is very clear about what happened and I know it will be over and resolved at some point but I can’t control what the Republicans and their allies do, but I think it’s important for voters to know what are they doing.

Some Republicans have guts. If Trump isn’t the nominee, my protest voting for a GOP presidential candidate will end. I’ll vote third party until there is a candidate that those 132 wealthy donors from both parties can’t control. That is where the corruption is. Would you be able to summarize? I can’t go to Breitbart. My anti-virus just slams the door to that site on me.

      • mothy67, says:

        Breitbert London

Police in Sweden have arrested a man in connection with a shocking viral video that allegedly shows him spitting on and hitting a woman with her children.

Last Thursday morning, police report that the man, “punched and spat on a woman who stopped him from trying to steal from an elderly person.”

The incident, which took place at the Old town underground station in Stockholm, was captured on the station’s CCTV. The footage was uploaded to YouTube by Swedish news website Friatider and went viral across social media.

Police gave credit for the arrest to the video going viral saying, “the man was arrested in northern Stockholm on Friday, thanks to tips received from the public.”

The clip (above), which is under a minute long, shows a dark-skinned man with a beard apparently reaching into the bag of an elderly woman in front of him. A woman next to him notices and pushes the elderly woman away from the alleged robber. The woman is then spat at, and kicked by the young man as the woman’s children look on by her side.

Stockholm police have also reported that a state prosecutor has decided to prosecute the arrested man for attempted aggravated theft, assault and molestation. They have set a date for a further hearing this weekend in which the accused man will be given a public defender as per his request.

Police Chief Inspector Stefan Tellqvist told Swedish paper Aftonbladet, “we are more than 100 percent sure it’s the right person,” and that the man is known to police and has a history of violent crime including attacking police with a knife. This information running counter to police reports saying they do not know the identity of the man and are working on revealing the information over the weekend.

The woman in the video also reached out to Aftonbladet describing her experience saying, “I saw his eyes, he was so angry with me. A normal reaction would have been (for him) to run away and not attack me with two children. It’s super disgusting. I think of what could have happened, he could have had a knife on him and attacked me that way.”

Even through the traumatic experience the woman remained defiant, telling the paper, “I would do it again,” and said she thinks more people should intervene in such cases noting that in Sweden, “people are extremely bad at standing up for each other.”

Violent crime and sexual assault in Sweden has skyrocketed in the past few years. Breitbart London has reported on the rise of crime in Sweden and often the lax punishments, especially for migrants, like the teenage migrants who were let off with a slap on the wrist for a violent gang rape in November of last year.

Sweden has become the only country in Europe where grenade attacks have become common, focused around migrant populated areas like the city of Malmo.

      • mothy67, says:

You’d think Breitbart would do something about that. I open a story my kindle crashes. I restore everytime I try to read anythng there.
