Welcome To Thunderdome!

I was gone for most of yesterday. I had to drive up to Sac’to to pick up my middle child (The Artist) at the airport cuz he was flying in from Sea/Tac for a visit.

So I missed a lot of the “fun”. Well, I can’t say I missed it, Jim. The worst part is that we haven’t even reached Peak Stupid yet. (If Donald Trump wins the Nobel Peace Prize then we’re there.)

The election of 2008 was a particularly ugly year, but for the most part the candidates themselves played nice and let their henchmen and henchwomen do the dirty work. This year has turned into a melee, with everybody biting, kicking and eye-gouging everybody else.

This could be the Best Election Ever.

Yeah. Carson announces a bad decision at a bad time, the media picks it up and comments on it just before caucuses are set to open, so it’s “sleazy” to react. This IS junior high school.

      • piper says:

I question why Dr. Carson “had” to leave during the Iowa caucuses – what was so important that he had to fly to Florida – sorry something stinks in his corner TOO.

        From Iowa Rep. Steve King
‘The fault was really CNN’s. CNN put out a report with a big chyron underneath saying Carson ‘taking break’ from campaign and then saying he intended to skip NH and South Carolina. This kind of language is common when one is suspending a campaign. The Cruz team was reacting to that.

It also didn’t occur until around 8 pm. At that point people were already caucusing and voting. It would seem unlikely that anyone would change their vote over a report at that point, especially if they were hearing it from an opponent.’

        • 49erDweet says:

King may be correct about the broadcast time, but the prevalence of smartphones these days could have effected voting. And whose bad timing and decision caused the problem?

          • Somebody says:

8pm central or EST? Me thinks EST, also you are correct 49er, the Cruz team all had smart phones and the information was disseminated immediately that has already been proven. We’ll never know what impact it had on the vote, but I agree with Piper, Carson shouldn’t have made the statement to begin with…..something is off.

          • Venus says:

Candy Carson was at a caucus where the person speaking for Cruz urged Carson supporters to switch to Cruz because Carson was dropping out. Luckily she was at that ONE caucus and corrected the record. So to pretend it didn’t happen at other is bullshit.
Cruz’s basic defense is he isn’t as dishonest as it may seem.

          • 49erDweet says:

Yeah, the denial was not a smart move and could bleed off a bunch of his support. The atmosphere at those caucuses must be just crazy. I’m hearing other camps were also going with the clear CNN “late breaking” insinuation Carson was pulling out but they ended up not being the front runner, so “no foul”. It was a badly timed move by the non-political candidate that fed an adult game of “Rumor”, but he gets the sympathy pass.

  2. Myiq2xu says:

BTW: I don’t GAF who endorses who. Celebrity endorsements are so dubious that I tend to think LESS of the endorsee.

  3. dm says:

I feel like the top news story centering around Cruz, Carson and Trump and their reactions and furthering of this story has real negative backlash potential. I understand the outrage, but after the initial reaction it needs to be let go. It’s all about perception – voter perception to be specific. The hard core supporters won’t be swayed, but all those pesky on the fence voters might. Cruz is coming off sleazy, Trump is coming off as a sore loser and Carson has made his point and that should be that. Maybe it’s just the media that is continuing to propel this fight, but let’s face it – Cruz isn’t going to win NH so the sleazy campaign antics certainly isn’t going to help his cause there, Carson isn’t going to win any states – yes, he may garner some delegates which maybe he just wants a voice at the convention or a VP slot. Trump needs to rise above…I think he can easily take NH in spite of endorsements for Christie.

    • Somebody says:

Agree completely dm, all their antics are doing is helping Rubio.

    • DeniseVB says:

As far as the Carson-Cruz kerfluffle, why aren’t angry caucus voters coming forward saying they changed their Carson vote to Cruz because of the misinformation ? **crickets**

      • taw46 says:

True, I haven’t seen anyone that said they changed their vote. I did see several people on Twitter say the Cruz people made that announcement at their caucus. Whether or not their vote changed, no follow-up.

    • Venus says:

But Cruz was counting on Carson supporters going to him once Carson is out. That will definitely not happen now.

      • Somebody says:

Yes Carson supporters will most likely not join the Cruz camp now if/when Carson drops out. Also, remember Huckabee, Rand Paul and Santorum all dropped out the day after Iowa. Their supporters would most likely head for Carson or Cruz, maybe in some way Trump was making a play for them as well as laying the groundwork to scoop up Carson’s supporters???

        • Venus says:

Yes, I think that’s what is going on — tainting Cruz for the holy roller/Southern crowd (Carson, Huck and Santorum). Those voters aren’t likely to go to Rubio, and Trump probably figures he can deal with Rubio after NH. No one has really hit Rubio on amnesty/Gang of 8, which is his biggest vulnerability and which sure as hell will not play well in the South.

  4. driguana says:

Trying to stay as disengaged as possible but it is proving very difficult. My overwhelming reaction at the moment, though, is that all of the Republican rage and the impossibility of Hillary Clinton, is going to leave the door wide open for the peasant uprising of Bernie Sanders. Not unlike the way Obama rode into power. Politics is a very strange beast that savages a nation despite the good intentions of its people.

    • taw46 says:

      That is my fear.

      • taw46 says:

Although I am still not convinced that the Dems would allow Bernie to be their nominee.

        • leslie says:

Really, ^this^. I think Biden will be the nominee in the end. He’ll be nominated at the convention to rescue the party from a Sanders candidacy. imho.

          • driguana says:

I just had a cousin visiting here for 10 days (way too long but that’s another story) who is a well respected political analyst and former head of the political polling program at the University of Cincinnati for many years, and a hard core Republican, who writes occasionally for Larry Sabato and he claims the same thing will happen. He predicts it will be Biden vs. Rubio. That’s pretty interesting. I also argue with him, and others, that Elizabeth Warren will soon resurface also. I’m supposed to be disengaging, not engaging!!

          • lyn says:

And Obama gets his third term.

          • leslie says:

            Indeed he does.

          • leslie says:

            driguana ~
Yesterday morning I heard Mika say she has a “real problem” with Warren. I don’t really care what Mika’s problems are. But when she says she has a problem with Warren as a candidate, it says more about what others are telling her to say. I’m sticking to my thoughts about Biden “saving the party” (meaning obama’s ass). I may be wrong but I’m usually pretty close.

          • taw46 says:

Well, a lot of people think it will be Biden/Warren. But there is also talk of a “surprise” Dem candidate. So who knows.

  5. Somebody says:

Trump is losing his mojo, he’s imploding. I know, I know, lots of people have said that before, this is for reals……he can recover, but he needs to focus himself. His people need to put up a sign ala Clinton’s war room that says “It’s the immigration stupid”. He needs to stay on message, temper himself if that is at all possible and get a fucking ground game. If he doesn’t then he will become just another flash in the pan. Cruz has gotten down in the mud a little too and it doesn’t come off well for him, Trump is better at it but it’s still unbecoming, there is a reason underlings normally do this kind of stuff. Cruz needs to stick to policy and a positive message.

All that being said, I have no doubt that the Cruz people did say Carson was dropping out. The evidence is out there, plus Cruz’s campaign manager is known for his dirty tricks. However, Iowa is over let sleeping dogs lie. The bickering is doing nothing for Trump or Cruz in fact if they don’t STFU it may help Rubio rise.

The establishment is going to coalesce around pretty boy Rubio and when they do it will be on like donkey kong. Money will flow freely, super pacs will be attacking, etc. Both Cruz and Trump need to pivot to Rubio. Paint Rubio as an opportunist, bought and paid for, point out his flip flops. Go back to his Florida record, then he lied to get to the senate and then he ran right back to loving illegals…..there is a pattern there. Point out his tendency to say one thing about amnesty in English and another in Spanish. Why should anyone believe him now……fool me once shame on you, fool me twice, why are we actually considering letting him fool us a third time???

    • piper says:

Agree – Rubio will be the winner of this kerflufflle and I can picture Mr. Narcissistic Trump, having a yuuuuuuuge meltdown and screaming about being cheated by another youngster.

    • ginainmo says:

Jeff Roe is human slime. He has pulled horrendous stunts here in Missouri. I can’t vote for any candidate the he works for.

        • lyn says:

Cruz hired a guy whose vitriol may have contributed to another guy’s suicide, eh?
          From the above link:
For years, Roe has been known in Missouri political circles as a take-no-prisoners strategist whose tactics, generally on behalf of conservative Republicans, are as questionable as they are effective. Most notably, a Post-Dispatch investigation revealed he was behind a vicious, name-calling radio ad against Republican Missouri GOP candidate for governor Tom Schweich — an ad that infuriated Schweich and which preceded his February 2015 suicide.
That and other Roe controversies are outlined in a recent New Republic profile entitled “Ted Cruz’s Howitzer.”
“Jeff Roe will do anything to win,” reads the subhead. “Just watch.”

          • DeniseVB says:

Ted is using Obama’s playbook. If he pulls this off, he’ll be considered a “gifted politician” like Obama is. Malarkey. Carson was right, can’t we get away from this crap😉 Then I remember how McCain and Romney lost, taking the high road gave us Obama. #WAR

          • lyn says:

Cruz screwed a gentle-talking doctor when he probably didn’t have to. Voters should notice that. At least I hope they do. #WAR, eh?

    • driguana says:

Yes…quite interesting. And jurt when you think Trump might get it and reestablish his leadership persona, he implodes once again. His opportunity, though, is still clearly there…for the moment.

      • Somebody says:

Yes driguana Trump does still have opportunity, but the window is closing. He needs to let go of the Iowa thing and focus on his message. Trump’s message “Make America Great Again” is a positive message, but he easily strays from that into the gutter. A little gutter sniping shows he won’t take shit, but Trump takes it to the extreme.

        • driguana says:

Yes, he doesn’t seem to want to change his MO, does he? I know I said this before but I’ll repeat it, as I often repeat myself, Trump should do a one-on-one debate with Cruz now. Actually I think he should have taken Cruz up on it before Iowa. They could have done it. Cruz might decline now but it would be a great ploy against Rubio and terrific theater!

  6. DeniseVB says:

    Go Bernie Go !

  7. DeniseVB says:

What the frack is Trump doing in Arkansas ? The guy exhausts me🙂

  8. DandyTIger says:

Obama keeps talking about the election and about the Repubs in way that sounds like he really would like to be in the race this cycle. Poor thing. He’s now irrelevant and it’s bothering him. Best thing about this election really.

    • Somebody says:

Preach it Joe!!! Rubio is the republican version of Obama. Rubio is up for grabs to the highest bidder, Rubio only cares about Rubio. Chris Christie is correct also, Rubio has been giving the same speech for years, get a new schtick.

Trump could skewer Rubio if he can find the right balance and not come off like a bully. He could find an opportunity to point out that he works hard every day and Marco can’t be bothered to show up at the Senate. Jeb tried to go after Rubio that way, but fell flat. By all accounts, love him or hate him, Trump has always been a workaholic, it’s just who he is. Also, Trump is much more macho than Jeb ever dreamed of being. Trump if he played it right could make a nice contrast between himself and Rubio and by extension to some degree Cruz.

Another thing Trump needs to do is find a way to label Rubio and make it stick. He branded Jeb with low energy and did so masterfully. He needs to brand Rubio a kid or a chameleon or the second coming of Obama.

Headache today so not a real post, but there are some promo codes at links.
And $5 off Amazon fire stick which I am thinking about, but I don’t like that it is wifi only.

      • lyn says:

I have the Fire stick and love it. Like it better than the Roku.

        • votermom says:

          Thanks Lyn.
Roku had a wired connection, right?
Fire stick is not slow to stream? And you can use it for Netflix, hulu, etc?

          • lyn says:

Like the Roku, the Fire stick plugs into the HDMI port on the TV, but the Roku needs the HDMI cable. Both use adapters. The Fire stick didn’t give me a good picture on my small HDTV that’s real old whereas the Roku does.

          • lyn says:

You can stream other services on it. Those are under games and apps. I won’t be doing Netflix until season 4 of Orange is the New Black comes out.

          • ginainmo says:

My Roku uses a HDMI cable to connect with my TV, but it is using wifi to connect with my router which is in my office. I am using Xfinity by Comcast for my internet, and have had absolutely zero issues with streaming over the box.

        • leslie says:

Can you use it for national and local news? My son has Apple TV and he still has to go through cable for local stations and news.

  11. Dora says:

Christie comes out swinging against Rubio as Obama 2.0 and says all he’s ever done is ‘get up in the morning, fix his hair, smile and give the same speech’

    • leslie says:

Every time I see Rubio, I think that he’s been practicing that smile in the mirror for years. He turns it on the moment anyone in the news speaks his name. Obama 2.0

      • votermom says:

Yes, I don’t like him either – seems fake.

I get why some people find Cruz and Trump annoying, but I’d take their kind of annoying over Rubio’ s fake charm.

      • DeniseVB says:

Rubio’s more of a John Edwards to me. JRE knew where the cameras were at all times, so saw where he could turn it “on” and “off” in a nano-second.

        • leslie says:

That’s true. He can – and does – turn it on/off in a nano-second. But I’ve also seen Rubio waiting for the camera cue (not smiling) and when advised the cameras were on, he broke out into his “winning” smile. (He is attractive, but I don’t trust him any further than I can lift my fridge.

          • DeniseVB says:

I think this is why I like Trump, he never phony-smiles. Because he’s angry😉

I was backstage at an Edwards event with other volunteers for a group photo with him and he was like all gruffy let’s get this over with. Phony smile. Click. No press was around, just his personal slaves working for free and paying our own travel and expenses during a weekend in Chicago. I think he thanked us, I don’t remember.

  12. lyn says:

    Crime pays.

  13. Dora says:

And are there any more caucuses?

  17. DandyTIger says:

    OK, that’s funny

    • DeniseVB says:

I like the part of Huck’s suspension speech that he was really dropping out due to illness….caused by the voters sick of seeing him🙂

  18. DeniseVB says:

OT: Anyone watch the OJ Simpson miniseries Tues night? Loved the behind the scenes stuff, and OJ is soooooooo guilty from the get go. Though “Ross Gellar” as OJ’s BFF ( David Schwimmer playing Robert Kardashian with the same hound dog face he used on “Friends”) was fun to watch by expecting to see “Rachel” walk into the room.

    • dm says:

Just watched it today. I once read that if all the evidence had been allowed in the court room there is no way he would have been found innocent. I’ve always thought he was guilty, but what do I know…I’m just a big ol racist!

      • DeniseVB says:

I know Cuba Gooding, Jr. is working on an emmy performance here, and if OJ was really behaving that bizarre, body language was screaming “guilty as sh*t”.

      • elliesmom says:

I was recovering from surgery and got to watch the whole OJ trial on Court TV. There were a lot of unanswered questions, but I don’t think there was any reasonable doubt.

        • Myiq2xu says:

I blame the LAPD for trying to frame a guilty man. OJ knew immediately that the glove was planted because he left both gloves at the scene and didn’t drop one behind Kato’s room.

The cops did a sloppy investigation then they lied and tried to pretend they did a good one. But they got tripped up by the media who got there early and recorded EVERYTHING. They made themselves look guilty. The jury believed that the DNA evidence showed that OJ was the killer, but they didn’t trust the LAPD cops and techs who gathered the evidence.

LAPD has a horrible track record in high-profile cases when they know they are under close scrutiny. Imagine how many screw-ups they make in low-profile murders.

  19. Dora says:

Obama is violating his oath of office! Again!!

Border agent: ‘We might as well abolish our immigration laws altogether’

In a shocking reversal of policy, U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents are being told to release illegal immigrants and no longer order them to appear at deportation hearings, essentially a license to stay in the United States, a key agent testified Thursday.

What’s more, the stand down order includes a requirement that the whereabouts of illegals released are not to be tracked.

My never gonna vote for Cruz stems from the fact that he is so painfully unattractive. I also find rubio repugnant. I do not see the pretty boy. I see a big eared non descript person. He has a soso body and decent teeth. I never found anything attractive about the o’s.
I might sound shallow but I was not offended by Grandpa Munster until he showed his colors. I know see him as evil and ugly. I believe we all do it subconsciously. Growing up I thought Carole Burnett was drop dead sexy. I loved her flaws. She had plastic surgery and became too self aware. Conversely Joan Rivers got funnier.
Awkwardness and raw strenght are turn ons. I see everything from a sexual perspective. A table can be sexy. Again I think we all do it. Very Freudian. I remember very little of years in the children’s hospital. I was in and out until I turned 12. No one would touch me. They were scared. I went and didn’t die. Age 12 I laid naked with an auditorium with dozens of students watching. I had complete recovery. My valves are pig. Life span is tops 7 years mine are 46. During my dying days there was a fat black social worker. She used to hold me when everyone else was afraid. I love fat black women. I would go straight for Lonnie Love. Funniest comic out thereand she is an engineer. Again I think we all operate on a sex based platform. Seeing beauty in anything is sexual. The color of fall leaves a sunrise.
I have questioned my gayness since I saw a boy on a trampoline. I respect people that are just gay, but for me I have questions. So not PC to think that way. People actually hate me for wondering why.

Well, I still like Ted for prez. Can’t say I like the campaign tactics. But I am really, really tired of voting for people that I have no faith in their beliefs. I could also vote for Trump – it’s not an either or for me. But, I am seriously considering not taking that trip to the polls if it’s anyone else…which, in essence, hands the election to the other person I loathe more. The moral of the story – there are a lot of good people who never get elected because of stupid shit that has nothing to do with their potential. I can almost understand the tactics, as we have witnessed the dems do this and worse and for that matter, the GOPe is just as guilty as doing whatever it takes to get their guy in…I guess you just can’t win.

That showed up on the gossip site I read about 2 weeks ago. I believe the story goes like this…an underage Rubio was sitting in a car at a park with a friend and they were caught drinking. This friend eventually became his room mate and said friend was later arrested on porn charges. Insinuations clear…shady friends, possibly gay, blah, blah, blah.

    • Venus says:

What dm failed to mention is that (1) the park where Rubio & his friend (the gay porn imperserio) were when they were arrested was a known gay meet up place; (2) there is a picture of Rubio at a “foam party” — he even claims he met his wife at a foam party (although in the 90s, foam parties were only a gay thing; and (3) Rubio was a member of a part Chippendale/part YMCA knock off dance troupe.

I was pretty much my own boss. I fell into event planning. Somehow I became the personal assistant to personal assistants. I did the leg work. Famous people love to eat at Joe Allen. They are booked up rvery night pre theater. Doesn’t matter who you are there are no tables. I’d have people call and beg. Nothing I could do. I’d say they can eat at the bar but that means I have to take up 5 stools for hours . I was a bartender for many years in Hell’s Kitchen so I knew many ladies of the evening. I was a pimp without ever selling sex. I’d say sit at the bar for hours until client arrives get up give him your seats. I have non disclosure agreements but I can tell you I have been paid to create a crowd. I functioned for years as a surrogate. Money was very good but I was so bored. I drank all day everyday what killed me was my friends started to die or screw up their lives so badly they wanted to die. I was empty. I never want to visit a friend in Bellview psych ward again. I got lucky. I was so bored with life and angry that young people die. My gentle friend Carl was high on heroin fell asleep after lighting a candle burned to death. I want no more.
Baby girl was discarded. I left my life for her. Seriously a throw away kid that has straight A’s a blue belt, she is head engineer in a CMU sponsored event. She is so kind. I have Linda Rondstat ‘s Poor Poor Pitiful Me on every musical device.

The snow is one of those things that make me realize I’m getting old. When I was young I’d look out at the snow and say “Yippee”. Now when I see the snow falling I say “Oh Crap”! 😦
