The Fat Lady Sings For Cruz And Kasich

Cruz quitTED last night, and Kasich is throwing in the towel today. This is great news for Marco Rubio. (Just kidding.)

Now that their dream of snatching the nomination from Trump at a contested convention is dead, the #NeverTrumps are relegated to an ineffectual and ignominious effort to play spoilers out of spite and butthurt.

This is an open thread.

Primary campaigns are like marital arguments – they should be conducted with the mutual understanding that everyone will eventually kiss and make up. Scorched earth tactics make reconciliation difficult if not impossible.

  2. DeniseVB says:

Buckle up kids, it’s going to be a bumpy ride😀

  3. WMCB says:

    My day so far.

Hubs, opening every drawer in the kitchen: Where is the scraper?
Me: What the heck is a scraper?
Him: I need to do these carrots.
Me: Oh, you mean the grater.
    Him: Yeah, that.
Me, laughing: So you’re just making up new names for things now?

    We won.

We have a few weeks, wouldn’t it be fun if he ran the VP selection like “The Apprentice”. Put up about a dozen politicians in a Trump Towers penthouse then give them projects to make America great again. I would so totally watch that😛

        • votermom says:

What a fabulous idea! That would suck all the air out of the Dem side!
Too bad the pols would be too chicken to agree.

      • Somebody says:

I think at a minimum each potential candidate should do a sales pitch for themselves. What they will bring to the ticket and the race…….pros and cons.

I think Ben Carson is a nice man, a gifted surgeon and an inspiration……..but I don’t know if his skill set is best suited for selecting a VP. I’d like to know who else is on the committee.

        • AFVet says:

Trump has already said that he would pick someone that is politically savvy to be his VP.
Given the fact that he is going to have to deal with a potentially contentious congress, he will need some advice.
          Maybe Jeff Sessions ?

          • gracepmc says:

A day late , but I figured this is where the party might still be going on.
Carson, not the best to head up a VP selection committee, IMO. We’ll see.
Trump has been well served by Sessions so far. And Sessions’ former aide was a great addition to the Trump team.
Assuming the GOPe and the RNC don’t totally blow it, Trump’s in. Works for me.

        • Mt.Laurel says:

He may have been asked to steer the committee as given his background he would have been on tons of committees and panels and certainly has been exposed to medical/hospital politics which can easily run amuck. I see Carson’s job as making sure the committee process does not run amuck and that the committee achieves its goal and in the end ensures those not selected help increase the overall synergy of and not bitterness toward the campaign.

        • WMCB says:

I’ve heard (vague) rumors that Gov. Pence of Indiana is a prospect – his endorsement of Cruz was about as lukewarm as it gets. Midwestern and rustbelt appeal could be key in this election, so I dunno.

My favorite would be to go outside the partisan box and pick Webb, but that’s just me.

        • Probably not suited to picking the VP, unless the underlying agenda is training for cultivating qualities of a VP / how to perform as VP.

He is probably the strongest outsider. #IJS

Again, Trump supporters must still VOTE in the remaining primarys.
Maybe some of the GOP and it’s elites haven’t heard our voices yet.
Turn up the volume by voting till their ears bleed.

    • DeniseVB says:

He still needs to get to the 1237 and needs a few more states. Hope he keeps up those rallies since they’ll now be focused on crooked Hillary. So much fun!

  9. CiscoKid says:

The irony here is to rich.
Hillary Calls on Press to Toughen Up on Trump.
$75 million spent and 64,000 negative ads against Trump, and she sicks the the media lapdogs to get tougher?
What more could they do? A drive-by?

      • Jadzia says:

My probably unpopular opinion is that I feel bad for Monica Lewinsky. Yes, she was more than old enough to know right from wrong. But her life was ruined, and that is an incredibly excessive punishment. See also: Bill Clinton’s life, not ruined. See also: why are there still people out there who want to blame Hillary Clinton for that whole mess? See also: Bill Clinton, big boy.

  11. driguana says:

There is something about Trump that is compelling me to like him. Partly the fact that he is not a “traditional” politician. But instead of getting behind hateful rhetoric on one side or the other, I am going back and reading his speeches very carefully to see exactly what he has said. Turns out to be quite interesting. Here is his full speech on Mexico and Mexicans. I find myself agreeing with a lot of it. It’s how he says things sometimes that seems to bother so many. Just sayin’…

    • Somebody says:

Some time back there was a video where someone had overdubbed a voice with a British accent to replace Trump’s voice. It was very interesting to listen to because it made you realize how much of what he said you agreed with. I would imagine reading his speeches would have much the same effect. Actually listening to the overdubbed video helped pull me aboard the Trump train. It made me realize his voice reminds me of a relative I don’t care for and I was projecting that onto him.

    • WMCB says:

He’s vulgar (not in the sense of swearing, but in the sense of not being too careful *how* he says things.) But if you look at his statements as a whole, no, he’s not hating on Mexicans or women or whatever. He’s railing against real problems – just without giving a shit how he comes across while doing that.

That aspect of his personality is both refreshing (not the usual politician mealy-mouthing) and a problem (can be off-putting to some.) It is what it is.

      • blowme0bama says:

Yeah, he really turned me off for a while, mostly with the braggadocio. I realized it was schtick, but still…

        • WMCB says:

Yeah, it mostly is media hamming for strategic effect. By all accounts, those who’ve done business with him, etc say he’s quite polite and focused not crass at all when actually at the table making deals, or in his personal relationships.

      • Myiq2xu™ says:

Most politicians speak in carefully crafted sound bytes that have been parsed by lawyers and campaign professionals.

If Trump talked like that he never would have made it out of the starting gate.

        • Myiq2xu™ says:

Trumpspeak is greatly preferable to Clintonese.

        • WMCB says:

That’s part of his appeal that the political class never got. “I’d like to punch that guy in the nose!” is a normal hyperbolic thing that a normal person would say about an obvious asshole, while jawing with their buddy down at the bar. The fact that it’s OMG BEYOND THE PALE AND VIOLENT! to our political class highlights just how isolated and insulated they really are from normal people.

          • AFVet says:

          • WMCB says:

Yep. And most of the people losing their minds over stuff like that have never once examined **why** they have it in their heads that politicians must/must not speak in a certain way. Why is it that Trump saying that is a HORROR, but if your buddy next to you watching some asshole screaming “protestor” on TV said the same thing, you’d not freak out and assume he’s a violent psychopath? Because you wouldn’t, now would you?

Once you start examining that, you start to get an inkling of just how badly and nefariously we’ve allowed a media and political elite hostile to us to COMPLETELY control the bounds of how we think about allowable political thought and discourse.

            Free your mind, man.

          • Anthony says:

“Once you start examining that, you start to get an inkling of just how badly and nefariously we’ve allowed a media and political elite hostile to us to COMPLETELY control the bounds of how we think about allowable political thought and discourse.

          • Lulu says:

ALL of the “OMG BEYOND THE PALE AND VIOLENT” is really just shut up peon. And so is the “angry trashy ignorant people” who should die is just more “shut up”. They have no inclination or desire to engage with anyone outside of their clique or bubble and become deranged if they have to do so. Now the contempt is up close and personal (Cruz quit days after a peon got in his face after trying to lecture said peon) but there are more us than them, economically and socially their sole being is torn asunder with the derision of MSM, the political machines implosion, and the coming purge of the permanent government class. Not only are they useless, they are wrong almost as a matter of course, and they have ZERO reason for their contempt. It is their turn to shut the fuck up and stop living off everyone else like parasites. We don’t need you schmucks, you need us.

          • Myiq2xu™ says:

To be fair, half the voters in this country are below average in intelligence.

          • Lulu says:

True but the elites are especially dumb in their own special way. There are several types of intelligence. There is ignorant, stupid and lacking in common sense. You can be ignorant as all fuck and still have commons sense or be kind of stupid but have a sense of decency and a sort of accumulated wisdom. I see no redeeming value of any of these traits in the current elites. They are ignorant, dumb as rocks, and proud to be so useless. They think they are in the 95th percentile of “intelligence” but they aren’t really. Ted Cruz’s “genius” was shown to the world when an insolent, quick witted goober, that Ted chose to lecture and taunt not the other way around, not only outwitted him but stood him down eyeball to eyeball (except for the shades which were insolent too). And the public pools “intelligence” en masse through consensus which the elites do not understand at all.

As a west coaster I find a lot of east coast types coarse and loud. But I’m not voting for a friend I want to spend time with I’m voting for a guy who can get something done for average people against a bunch of other loud east coast coarse guys.

        • Jadzia says:

That’s a really good point and it’s one that I’ve basically come around to, not that it matters because I can’t vote, but whatever.

Its a trap. I can smell a rat.
With the drug cartels literally running the country, police and government troop being ambushed and killed. Politician’s too.

Trump talking about the wall and stopping the drug smuggling make him a target.
      Send Hillary instead.

      • CiscoKid says:

I think its sop that all candidates wear it.

Trump will be in Oregon on Friday. His rally is in Eugene where the anarchists hang out.

      • taw46 says:

Oh, boy. Guess that means protests on steroids.

      • Constance says:

You should have seen the Seattle cops smack down the anarchists on May day. It was hilarious. It was probably 75 degrees out which is enough to cause heat stroke in northwest people. KOMO news covered it live for hours. They herded them around like a bunch of cows and they used bike cops to set the pace which was too fast for people on foot. The anarchists were in black and soaking up the heat and looking pretty bad. The second they raised a hammer or stick the cops pig piled them and arrested them. The anarchists started stripping off to their underwear and sitting on the side of the road to recover. Then a couple of cops would break off and stare at them until they got up and drifted off. Best thing on TV all week! I’m sure every cop brigade in the States has been studying the film. Strangely there is no film of it to post here.

      • Jadzia says:

I am terrified of flying and I fucking hate Eugene (the town that pretty much turned me into a Republican, I was a socialist when I moved there!), but I would get on a plane and pay cash money to see the scruffians of Downtown Eugene try to take on Donald Vader.

Thanks for all the warm thoughts. Dad is coming home tomorrow.
Funny they often declare him finished and he keeps going. It’s the little girl. Iknow he’s tired but he keeps on going for her. Trust me da brat is loved. No neglected half assed little child is she. So sweet she slept in his bed last night. I looked in at 4 am and boy did my allergies kick in. Funny stuff fell from my orbits. She was wearing her softball uniform. I had to go through my dad’s stuff to get numbers. What little we know of those we love. My dad had been studying to be a deacon. Finances and the fact that he couldn’t stay off my mom 86’d that. My dad does not preach, but looking for his phone I found so much Jesus stuff. Loads. Little memos saying thank you God. He fell away from the church years ago.
1990I told him I was a ghey. I walked to the liquor store and asked for a bottle of the vilest thing they had for the most miserable person on earth. Guy did not miss a beat. He said Mad Dog 2″0/20. I said make it three. Went home sat in the basement bathroom chain smoking with Led Zep cranked drinking moonshine. My dad knocked. Son can you open the door. That will be a nope. Well he said I kinda like you and no child should ever endure what you have, but Jesus aren’t you people supposed to be neat. Your room is a pig sty.
I resent gheys that force lifestyle on others. I treasure my annoying parents. I do not need to make funerals and weddings grand statements about my sexuality. I have friends that ruined other peoples events because they had to declare man love at a wedding. WTF. I am birthed of total rust belt. Elites mock, but there is a genuine sincerity amongst working poor. You might hear impolite words dispensed freely, but it does not speak to the heart. I donot need a safe space if someone says f a g. Christ if that were the case I would be “The Boy in the Plastic Bubble”.
My Aunt Suzie Alexis Carrington Colby Dexter Deveroux is ten years my senior. She has been married nine times but she is vehement that marriage be between a man and a woman. Ber latest crusade is keeping men out of women’s bathrooms. I think there is something nefarious afoot with these gender laws. Trans people have been visible since Stonewall.I worked in Chelsea for ten years. I don’t get the woman trapped in a man’s body but it had no bearing on my life. Whatever. I worked at Joe Allen on restaurant row. I saw everything on and off Broadway for nothing. I would get calls we have ten orchastra seats available fill them. I had a friend in Death of a Salesman with Brian Dennehy. She played the mistress. Hot ticket but a Tuesday night tourists were not shelling out 200 dollars a ticket at TKTS. They give unsold primo tickets away for the optics. My Aunt came to see me in NY. I had a friend in “The Lion in Winter”. Laurance Fishborn(sp?) And Stockard Channing were the stars. After the show I took my aunt backstage. Channing was amazing. I had told her I was taking my aunt and she had a magnum of champagne. Funny because it was my job on opening nights to deliver champagne. Always magnums and I had to mark them with a small black x Tax stuff they were part of promotions. The bottle she popped for my aunt was the one I gave her opening night. She saw me look at the x and laughed. Did a fauxvoice and said I saved it for you. We then saw Beauty and the Beast. I was sleeping with the cheese grater so we did back stage. We then went and saw Hedda Lettuce in the Village. My Aunt loves to drink. We were so drunk I pitched a tent at 5 am on my roof to go to sleep. I had a studio very small drunk I said I have a tent so up we went to the roof. I never declared to her I am a ghey but she went to a drag show with me and my boyfriend. Anyhow she is on this crusade about trans in womens bathrooms. Everyday protests. She is fired up. I just don’t see it as real. Like I said I have seen hundreds of Broadway shows. So often standing at the urinal during intermission women walk in. Talking well heeled women not waiting inline. No one cares. Liz Smith did it all the time. My aunt is 59 lives in suburbia. The odds of her meeting a tranny at wendy’s bathroom are nil yet she is vocal. She marries repeatedly and always up. New husband is a retired exec. Lives in 12 room home so wants to be rich. Three doors down a two bedroom apartment was raided. Drugs and guns and live chickens. They converted the kitchen into a coop. 17 guys in a two bedroom with live stock. The neighbors had complained about smell for months. I guess a girl was assaulted and her dad went after him. Nothing on local news. Last fall my kids school sent out an alert. Three girls walking down the street a few guys in a car attempted to abduct them. ACtually got out of car and grabbed one. Some good guy took action and the girls took pics and called 911. One block from high school. Nothing on local news. School sent out an alert nothing on local news. I went to school board meeting and a WOMAN said maybe we should discourage girls from dressing sexy. What???? It is three girl’s fault that they were almost abducted in broad daylight by illegal immigrants because they had tiny shorts? I have a Trump hat. Went to the store with my mom. Came out my moms car was keyed. Nazi scratched on the hood. Called the cops there is 100% coverage. I will press charges. I wore a hat someone did not agree with and they feel it is right to destroy my mom’s car. Fuck them. I am going to walk downtown in my hat everyday. I went into a gay bar sat and waited. The bartender after 15 minutestold me he would not serve me and I should take my hate elsewhere. There is nothing homophobic about Trump. He started his career with Ray Cohn. I think being a gay male can be a gift. You are forced to analyze the world. Its a given now that Shakespeare was at least bi no one cares except Glenn Beck and Rapheal Cruz. What is sad is this vocal minority. They do not represent actual people. I politely left gay bar stood at bus stop. Ten guys I counted tencame up to me and said that was wrong. They love Trump. Owners of the bar are big democrat supporters. Tools. Donald J Trump has never expressed anti gay thought. He may support traditional marriage. So do I. My punk aside I think best place is with mom and dad. Don’t throw out the baby with the bath water. My nephew sucks. Unfit. He is an aberration still believe in basic family unit. I resent psycho babble. Baby girls mom went girl interrupted after birth. I want to die I cut myself. I cut myself again. I am so lonely I can only feel if I cut myself. What a load of tosh. She never cut herself in any way that endangered her life. Abandoned her baby to throw a pity party at a psych hospital. My nephew is evil he took her one day after she gave birth beat her.she never bonded with her daughter. I get it. She didn’t call her for years. She has two kids and she fights to keep shay here. I try to understand where she comes from. I think in some ways she is quite brave. She abandoned her kid neglected her for years, but she stands up in court and defends her child. My nephew calls her all kinds of names in court. She cries but does not back down.
My brat is my best friend. I am not letting her life story be written by a lifetime television pity movie.
Her mom couldn’t hold her. So what she got love. Her mom now texts her. They are buds. My pup is not harboring hate for her little brother and sister. She is not a tragic figure wasting away crying my mom threw me away but she loves her other kids. That would never happen. My child is mature. So much more than I. Last night she had spring concert. She was supposed to do Back to December as a solo. School decided it was unfair to celebrate one child. First song she ever owned. I bought it for her.well last night my friend died we got together onlineand had a virtual wake. I woke up and baby girl was crushed I did not attend her show. Tears I said babyI was there. Here’s footage. I got there late but I was there. Her mom and dad ignore her. She does not care. I miss a spring concert and she hurts. Tomorrow is picture day. She hates dresses. Capris all the time. So cute she has been in dance since age three. she has a very Laurie Petrie body.makes sense Mary Tyler Moore was a dancer. She will wear a very very expensive dress tomorrow. It was a gift from a friend maybe low end 20 grand. She agreed to wear it for pic, but insists on changing afterwards.Vera thinks its funny. Yep that Vera.
