and you thought the 50s were so dull

“and you thought the 50s were so dull”
Dull??? Korean War, black and white TV, constant threat of nuclear war/Duck and Cover, Sputnik, etc., etc.

      • helenk3 says:

Yeah we did have fun didn’t we. In school they would have us go into the hallway during duck and cover drills. My class was in front of the glass trophy case. If the radiation did not kill us the flying glass would.
Many of my friends that had graduated went to Korea. My husband was in Korea before we got married.
With Sputnik, buck rodgers became a real thing.
remember the music shorts that were time fillers between programs? Who knew that MTV would make a fortune doing the same things all day long

        • Myiq2xu™ says:

You are old enough to remember when “dinner and a show” was a common thing, and the “show” included singers, dancers and other entertainers.

          • helenk3 says:

yes. and also remember when you could see music acts in bars and clubs and not stadiums.

          • Myiq2xu™ says:

A lot of the stars of the 60’s got their starts performing in bars and clubs. That was in the days before television.

          • Myiq2xu™ says:

Performers like Jerry Lewis, Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, and Sammie Davis Jr.

            Acts like these:

I saw the Eberly Bros. one carried me across the street in WIldwood, so my shoes would not get wet from the rain puddles.
You could see Bill Haley and the comets, I saw Gladys Knight and the pips in Wildwood.
            Those were fun times.
On Friday and Saturday nights we would go out just to dance. Did not drink much but the bars liked girls to go to them as they attracted the guys.
most embarrassing ever was the night the bartender “carded” me. I had cards making me 23 but I was only 18. He asked me my birth date and I told him the truth. He said I could keep coming to the bar but i could not drink. that did not bother me. I decided to drink orange juice so people would think I had a screw drive. One night being young and dumb I came in walked up to the bar and being the “cool” person I thought I was, I yelled Hey Ed i will have the usual. He yelled back one orange juice straight coming up. Blew the hell out of my image.

One of the things that made the old Johnny Carson Tonight Show so great was the unpredictability. so many of the greatest moments were unplanned and unscripted,

    • helenk3 says:

on gettv they have the old Mev Griffin show and the Judy Garland show. A lot of good music and showmanship

        Remember the Mike Douglas Show?

      • Mt.Laurel says:

The are running Johnny on Antenna TV.

I used to love Mick Douglas show. It was on in the afternoons and you would have such a great mix of guests. I recall Lucille Ball giving advice on becoming an actor. Something along the lines of develop a skill set to keep a roof over your head and food on the table because even if you are successful it a roller coaster and you can be out of work in a flash.

Finally got around to listening to our test broadcast, where this topic (killing the American Dream and DNC members) was mentioned and chewed up by us. Been sick as a dog (102 fever) but better now. Theres a lot of good promo material in there – will be editing it later and making a video – but this segment totally rocked! We’re good, girl!

I have a pre paid phone for kid. I pay online. Her bill is 40/month you pay all taxes when you refill. Metropcs is all inclusive for 30. I am going to move her number next month. I would have done it this month but I did not renew my PA ID. I don’t drive. I cannot transfer number without valid ID. Mine expired. Not a big deal I just have to go to DMV and rot. They do not take cash, cedit or debit. What a scam. Costs hundreds of thousands to process checks by hand. I had to get out of line go buy a money order for 12.50 get back in line and rot. How much money are they spending paying people to key in or scan every check/money order?
Anyhow I am going with metroPCS next month but turd wants to keep her #. Smartphones have wifi. I had a 38 dollar balance. Her bill is 40 plus tax ten was the minimum so I applied 10. Charge was 12.35.
2.35 in tax on 10. MetroPCS 30 all inclusive. Phones have wifi. I save over 15 a month going cheap. 23.5% on my bill is tax. I never saw it until I tried to apply 10 dollars. I always put 50 on her bill. Never looked. I was less than 3 shy of next charge. 10 is min. 12.35 to add 10. What a scam.

I paid 5 a month extra with tax probably 6 a month for two years on T-Mobile. Deal was you got money off. I had 200 off. Guy told me if I waited until November I’d get a bigger discount. I decided to wait. Crud cracked her phone I wanted 200 off nothing more. In store nothing on my account. I call t mobile they tell me the offer expired in May. I say then why did you charge me 5 for may, june, july, and august. We sent you an email was their response. I went through ten people. Not about the money it was the issue I had in good faith over paid my bill. I was in one of their stores and asked how much with discount for iPhone 6plus in june. I was told if I waited until November it would be 379.
700 dollar phone she can wait, this is after they sold me a returned phone that lasted a day.
They are offering me 150 prepaid visa. I paid about 140. Said no thanks. I may get zip but I will join any class action suit. I think they were taking advantage of people with poor credit. I did prepay because it is unlimited for 40. Post pay is for yuuuge data. All phones are wifi. How much 4g data does a kid need. She can watch youtube all day on wifi no charge.
