Matthew Open Thread

Matthew, a category 3 hurricane, is scraping north along the Florida coast. Thoughts and prayers to everyone affected. This is one of those times when it is definitely better to watch it on television than to experience it live.

FL has largely dodged a catastrophe, SO FAR. I fear for residents of Coastal GA and SC due to the potential for surge in light of the curvature of the coast, the shallower slope of the seabed offshore and the angle of approach.

  2. Best part: Dana Loesch says she learned all about oral sex from Hillary Clinton’s husband.

  3. It would be really funny if he was just some guy and didn’t know sign language. Like the guy at Mandela’s funeral.

    St. Augustine 😦

    • cynic says:

Oh my, my cousin’s daughter just moved there in August. Hoping they’re ok.

My grand-in-laws just sold their 50 year old home at St Augustine Beach last spring and moved to Biloxi, MS. We almost bought it.

My cousins posted a video on F/B of the flooding there, with the comment, glad they moved inland. I hope that means that they’re ok. Their daughter didn’t comment on the post.

Next, worries of my brother’s place near Hilton Head. I reread an e-mail from my SIL dated Oct. 5th of last year. In it, she stated that at that time, they had gotten 13″ of rain. I think they ended up getting closer to 20″, and it was from the remnants of Hurricane Joaquin. They’ve only lived there a couple of years. Wonder if they would want to move back to Waukesha after these experiences?

Well, from what I am seeing on twitter and facebook, our ocean condo just became a bit more ocean-y. Parts of A1A are gone. Just devastating. I am not sure old town in St Augustine will ever be the same.

NYT didn’t need a copy of Trump’s 1995 Tax return – they wrote it about in 1995 in this article styled

And he was supposedly campaigning for her. 🙂

At least Uncle Joe is honest. I really don’t see any of her campaign surrogates doing her any favors. Bill, Barry, Michelle and others have stepped in it, so to speak.

All of my friends in Brevard county are so lucky, they were about 11 miles from the edge of the eyewall. Looks like the space center got brushed by the eyewall, but no major damage reported. If the eye had not moved east, there would have been catastrophic damage. As it is, it was just a scary night for them. Many large trees uprooted, a few house fires caused by downed power lines, some damaged roofs, minor flooding. So lucky.

It also skirted Daytona Beach, so no landfall in Florida yet. Hoping for the best for the Jacsonville area.

Jacksonville Beach, Amelia Island, Fernandina Beach – all are getting storm surges and flooding. I know Somebody lives in that area, hope her home will be ok.
