Stupid Should Hurt

Just when you thought we had reached Peak Stupid, the Left goes and proves you wrong.

From Campus Reform:

Hundreds of students at the University of Virginia have signed a petition requesting that their president stop quoting Thomas Jefferson in official university communications.

According to The Cavalier Daily, UVA president Teresa Sullivan invoked the wisdom of Jefferson in a post-election email sent out Wednesday in an attempt to caution students against division.

“Thomas Jefferson wrote to a friend that University of Virginia students ‘are not of ordinary significance only: they are exactly the persons who are to succeed to the government of our country, and to rule its future enmities, its friendships and fortunes,’” she reminded students, encouraging them to “embrace that responsibility.”

Now, however, her students have done precisely the opposite, objecting to the use of Jefferson’s quote and demanding that Sullivan refrain from repeating such references in a letter penned by several faculty members, which had garnered nearly 500 signatures from students and staff alike.

“Despite the potential usefulness of a historical political leader to bring the community together in times of need, we are disappointed in the use of Thomas Jefferson as a moral compass,” the letter states, suggesting that even referencing Jefferson in an email is racist because he “owned hundreds of slaves and was deeply involved in the racist history of this university.”

The letter goes on to contend that some of the more controversial quotes attributed to Jefferson—such as his assertion that “blacks are inferior to whites in the endowments of body and mind,” and that they are “incapable as children of taking care of themselves”—make any references to the third President of the United States problematic.

“Though we realize that some members of our university community may be inspired by quotes from Jefferson, we hope to bring to light that many of us are deeply offended by the attempts of the administration to guide our behavior through his rhetoric,” the letter suggests, arguing that they “understand that although some members of this community may have come to this university because of Thomas Jefferson’s legacy, others of us came here in spite of it.”

The petition, which was sent to Sullivan with 469 student and faculty signatures, apparently was an attempt to “start a conversation with [the school’s] administration regarding ways to be more inclusive,” according to Professor Noelle Hurd, who drafted the letter.

“In the current climate, we must seize every opportunity to communicate that this university welcomes individuals from all backgrounds,” she told The Cavalier Daily. “I think that Jefferson is often celebrated for his accomplishments with little or no acknowledgement of the atrocities he committed against hundreds of human beings.”

Does the ban on quoting Jefferson include any reference to the Declaration of Independence? Next thing they’ll be demanding that the school ban the use of nickles in all monetary transactions. Eventually they will want him deleted from their history books. That’s what socialists do.

  1. If there is one school in the entire country that should staunchly defend Thomas Jefferson, it is UVA. He founded the fucking place.

    • 49erDweet says:

Just close the place down. It’s obviously a gross and total failure as an institute of higher education.

    • votermom says:

They should expel those students. Obviously they are not happy at Thomas Jefferson’s university.

    • DeniseVB says:

UVA’s the Holy Grail for Virginia high school students, has been since 1819. Not to mention it’s located in one of the most beautiful parts of our state. I guess Va Tech is second, and for the C students’ state party school, Radford, which my son got accepted to. His h.s. guidance counselor said NO WAY for a post all boys military school grad. Pointed him towards a small private college in NC, where he ended up being a Big Man on a Small Campus and he’s doing just fine now in adulthood. Got his criminal justice degree and continued his soccer and lacrosse passion, if only Div3, he went on to coach youth leagues in both ❤ Bless the guidance counselors !

    • kanaughty says:

If i was the dean, i’d say if you don’t want to hear something from someone you don’t like, then don’t enroll here. For that matter don’t go to any university. We are not going to erase history from our university because you don’t like some aspects of the man. He was a president and should be respected to some point at least.

  2. That’s UVA for ya. Meanwhile, at Indiana University, they are taking their medicine and accommodating ideological diversity.

people are wonder why companies are hiring immigrants before American citizens, well maybe because our schools have failing in educating. Companies are in business to make money. They do not have time for the whining and on top of that the lack of a good education, no matter how much parents paid the schools.

Maybe Silicon Valley is correct that they need to “import” 165,000 South-West Asians a year because American college grads are too stupid, too narcissistic and too lazy to the work.

Which is why the alt-right came about. They realized the new rules, and had fun with them. People called them racist, and they said so. Progs didn’t know what to do with that. And best part, they said yes because they were following the new prog rules, and knew it would trap progs themselves eventually.

    I need some help here
a couple of months ago I was dumb enough to take a on line survey about DISH network. At the end they has some “free” gifts for taking the survey. I picked out three which is what they said was offered.
Now I am getting all the face stuff that I will never in my lifetime use and being billed a couple of hundred dollars a month. I have called to tell them to stop and now they are telling me I have to take them. what law enforcement dept can I contact to get this stopped

    • swanspirit says:

Call your bank and stop the payments.

    • Mt.Laurel says:

I just saw a warning article about these as holiday shopping season is up and people will get a lot of extra emails. They are very good at looking like the real deal and because so many merchants are doing surveys it is easy to slip in fake ones.

The first steps, I think, would be similar to having your infor stolen. Call your bank and have them stop payment if they have any of your account information. If they have credit card info, call the credit card – they will send you a new card/new number and refuse any charges. Use the number on the back of your bank/charge cards to contact them.

Local Police Department should be able to help or tell you who to contact. They should also know if this is a common scam running in you area.

State Fraud Department/AG for your state

      The FTC:

You can report to BBB as well – but don’t expect a reply: scam

Will see if I can find/think for anything else. I am sure others here have some good ideas.

I cannot take any more of you know who’s speechifying. It’s a pretty impressive feat given the actor’s ridiculous amount of charisma.

  10. DandyTIger says:

    Really good analysis:

Many Americans have taken to the odd notion that some nationalisms are bad while others are good. This is a thoroughly Marxist conceit, and Communist regimes for decades tried to assess whose nationalisms were “progressive” and which ones were “reactionary.” In the end, such word games only enflamed the passions of all ethnic groups and helped fragment the Soviet Union, whose collapse was more about competing nationalisms than anything else. It also led to the even more unpleasant dissolution of Yugoslavia in war and genocide.

In recent decades, Washington has advocated that Black, Hispanic and Asian nationalisms are “good” (Americans of Middle Eastern descent may soon be added to the good list) while White Nationalism is “bad.” However, average whites—meaning those not indoctrinated in critical race theory in college—will never see it that way. The problem with pushing identity politics among minorities as a political weapon is that the majority eventually realizes they have an identity too. As I explained back in early 2015, before Donald Trump entered the presidential race, “However verboten discussion of White Nationalism is at present among polite Americans, it is unavoidable that this will become an issue in the future, with potentially explosive consequences.”

Trump’s winning our presidential election heralds a new era in American politics. The Democrats decided to bet everything on their emerging “new” America, and lost big. Obama’s two terms have overseen the destruction of the Democrats as a national party: they control nothing in Washington now and their performance at the state level is nothing short of dismal. Democrats dominate our big cities, California, and the Northeast—and little else. Barack Obama’s real legacy is putting Donald Trump in the White House.

There’s not much for Republicans to crow about, however, despite their enormous political windfall. Trump won precisely because he ignored or repudiated most longstanding “conservative” policies. Working-class whites have little interest in privatizing Social Security or open borders or engaging in endless losing wars in the Middle East. The GOP has changed, only their leaders seem not to have noticed. The Republicans are now the White party, de facto, whether they want to be or not. American politics will never be the same, and 2016 looks like a landmark election in the manner of 1980, 1932, or 1860, each of which transformed the United States. Buckle up, it looks to be a bumpy ride ahead in the emerging era of competing American ethno-nationalisms.

  11. jenlyn says:

I’m having deja vu. I remember when the Democratic National Committee put Obama up as the candidate to run against Hillary. I was furious and I had no idea who Barack Hussein Obama. Took me about 17 seconds to figure out who he was. He was a long-time member of a black separatist Church headed by the Reverend Wright good friend of Louis Farrakhan. Anti-Semitic to the Core misogynist evil these are words that came up when you Googled this church. You could actually listen to Reverend Wright speak thanks to the internet it was really scary. Little more research I found out that Michelle Obama had quote unquote given up her law license voluntarily. That’s like saying Jay-Z apologized to white Americans ain’t gonna happen. Interestingly enough in Chicago at the edge of downtown right near the church where Mrs. O’Leary’s cow allegedly kicked the lantern was an office building with 250 attorneys working on Obama. Scrubbing protecting and hiding any information that would potentially cost the Democratic National Committee their perfect candidate. As a fellow legal scholar I tried to find evidence of his legal prowess since he was editor at the Harvard legal Journal as a student but interestingly enough could find nothing. All I could find was that he was a college student at a public school in New York and somehow as a student who had never held a job somehow got into Harvard then got into Harvard Law School then was a state rep in Chicago who appeared to have cheated to have won and liked to smoke cigarettes and didn’t really vote too often. Wow. A man who never had a job appeared to have questionable history belong to a racist misogynist church had a wife who allegedly voluntarily give up her law license allegedly she did to become a state rep who never voted this was the candidate they put up against Hillary. Yes it was. As a Jew I wrote all the churches and the synagogues telling them how dare you support this candidate who belong to a anti-Semitic truly race is truly misogynist Church how dare you but no one seemed to care. We all know what happened Puma and crawfish and now Donald J Trump is our new president. The DNC claiming did anyone that didn’t vote for Obama was a racist and now anyone that voted for Trump is a racist just threw out there that they were thinking of hiring representative Ellison to be the chair of the DNC replacing is Hillary Clinton calls her the water buffalo Donna brazile. What’s so Deja Vu and hypocritical about this suggestion is that representative Ellison is a member of Louis farrakhan’s church and a very close friend of his he is racist a dangerous racist a dangerous misogynist and a dangerous anti-semite who is of course a Muslim. He hates this country he hates white people and it was just released a couple hours ago juice. In fact there is a recording of him saying that Jews caused 9/11 and benefited from it. Even if this tape didn’t exist the very fact that the Democratic National Committee would promote a misogynist racist anti-semite Muslim to be the new face of the DNC is f****** unbelievable. I am shaking. I plan to write all my letters again I don’t care if no one reads them this is unbelievable we are living in such dangerous times.

    • swanspirit says:

I know this is an oversimplification, but one of the reasons Hillary lost, and Bernie would have lost by an even bigger margin; is because she moved to far to the left. She followed Obama and Bernie down that garden path, and lost the greater part of the population.
If the Democrats continue to move farther and farther left, and even put a Muslim with a history of antisemitism at the head of the party, they will continue to lose more and more of the American people.

      • kanaughty says:

For me if hillary had stayed a senator, there’d have been no benghazi on her or secret server. So then if she ran but didn’t say she was obama’s third term and actually acted against what he’s done. And also if she then she wasn’t forced so far left, after all that maybe i could have voted for her. But all these series of events and stances made it so i couldn’t vote for her ever again.

    • blowme0bama says:

Jews need to realize that with the increasing population of muzzies, their political clout will diminish as a voting group. They need to realize the Dems are supplanting them and intentionally so, with their identity politics. Obstinate loyalty to the Dems is referred to as Jewicide.

    • kanaughty says:

Yeah, dems did not learn their lessen if they do nominate ellison. people are getting sick of identity politics in general. Basically they are stupid for nominating ellison. But maybe that’s better for freedom loving americans to rally against the dnc identity politics.

I took it upon myself to understand Trump, and his supporters. What I found was millions of great Americans who had been disenfranchised, normal people like you and I, who did not recover from the Great Recession. They’re pissed off about Obama Care, endless wars, trade deals that have killed jobs, higher taxes, a rigged economy–and, they are not wrong.

Had Democrats taken the concerns of average American seriously, especially the concerns of Millennials, they would have quickly realized Hillary Clinton was not the right nominee for the Democratic party in 2016.

Visiting the Adams’ homestead was a standard school visit for us in 5th grade. The tour guide read the part of Abigail’s letter where she asks John to “remember the ladies”. Everyone is supposed to smile and clap. My 5th grade teacher asked the guide to read John’s reply where he laughs in her face. But my teacher also taught us about how he defended a British soldier in court when no one else would because everyone deserves a fair trial. “Fair and balanced” for 5th grade history. 😉

So I had to block John Smart on FB when I pointed out that every single man, woman & child in CA could vote for Hillary and that still gave her 55 Electoral Votes.
Trump, meanwhile, won 57% of the Electoral College & 30 states, while Hillary had he worst EC showing since Dukakis. People on the coasts need to get over themselves — the rest of the states get to “count” too in national elections.

  22. Venus says:

Other than the dead enders who are crying about the popular vote (which, as I’ve said — is rigged, no way Hillary has more when she was schlonged so badly in the Electoral College 305 to 232) the MSM has entered into the ”
    “Trump will never . . .
    build the wall.
    secure the border
    end sanctuary cities.
    etc.” phase.

The MSM lied to us the ENTIRE last year and a half. They aren’t telling us the truth now — we still have to remain vigilant & fight against their b.s.

    • Jadzia says:

I have zero sympathy for people who are complaining about the popular vote. Were these people absent during the 2000 election? We all knew this could happen, yes? If it was such a problem (and they didn’t hope that the current system could benefit them someday), maybe they should have sprung into action back then. I don’t think it would take a Constitutional amendment to try to get Maine’s split-vote system enacted on a state by state basis, for instance, which would probably (I think?) bring the electoral college vote more in line with the popular vote on most occasions(*). If that’s what they really want. I don’t really care. These people did fuck-all for 16 years! But now it’s an emergency?

(*)Ignoring for the moment the prisoner’s dilemma that would be created by an attempt to get individual states to adopt this system on their own, because the likelihood of success of such a campaign is not really my point.

      • Venus says:

Jadzia — there has only been 2 other times when loser of EC won the popular vote. 2000 as you know and I think Harrison in the late 1800s/early 1900s and both times the EVs where close (272 to 268)
The fact that the EVs are so far a part — 305 Trump, 232 Hillary — shows a lot of “running up the vote” in places like CA, or even that illegals voted. Nothing more.

        • Jadzia says:

Yep. (Thanks for the reminder about the 19th century election, I knew it had happened before but couldn’t remember exactly when.) Like you, I am somewhat giving the side-eye to the claims about the popular vote as a factual matter given, as you point out, the blowout in the EC.

      • kanaughty says:

For instance, washington state should be divided by 3. 1. East of the cascades 2. South of olympia to oregon border 3. Everything north of olympia to canadian border. Trump would have won 2/3 of ev’s there. That’s pretty fair if they did something like this for every state.

        • kanaughty says:

I would love to see illinois divided up like this too making Chicago all it’s own EV, the rest of ev’s would probably go to repubs. But popular would favor only the voices in california and new england/midatlantic, and that’s not very fair for the rest of americans at all.

        • Jadzia says:

That why I’m pretty sure it will never happen. Imagine if California and New York’s votes no longer came in a solid bloc. It would be the end for the Dems. Obviously red states would shift around too (Austin, anyone?), but I think the effect would probably be less pronounced.

          • It’s like the filibuster – the Dems loved it when Bush was in office, then wanted to get rid of it when Obama got elected. Now they think it is sacred again. Dumping the EC will run up against the Law of Unintended Consequences.

I can kvell about kids on an open thread, right? They are just so much fun right now, doing good in school and everything. One of my boys is taking Latin (I am trying to convince him that he wants to go to Rome to see Latin-related stuff) and we spent the morning (for some weird reason this kid, and this kid only, doesn’t start school until 10am on Tuesdays) reading/puzzling out the Pope’s Latin Twitter feed. Who knew the Pope had a Latin Twitter feed? Fortunately he simul-tweets in English, but it’s fun to try to figure it out. This same child has unfortunately decided that he is Spock, and even whipped out the “The fact that I am here proves that I do not belong in bed” argument in an attempt to stay up late last night. He is going to be a frightening teenager, it’s clear already.

    • elliesmom says:
