The Failing New York Times: Carrier is staying. This is HUUUUUUUGE.

From the earliest days of his campaign, Donald J. Trump made keeping manufacturing jobs in the United States his signature economic issue, and the decision by Carrier, the big air-conditioner company, to move 2,000 of them from Indiana to Mexico was a tailor-made talking point for him on the stump.

On Thursday, Mr. Trump and Mike Pence, Indiana’s governor and the vice-president elect, plan to appear at Carrier’s Indianapolis plant to announce they’ve struck a deal with the company to keep roughly half of the jobs in the state, according to officials with the transition team as well as Carrier.

He ain’t even president yet, folks!

LOL, the butthurt on the left is calling the Carrier deal a bribe. They’re dumber than I thought if they don’t understand tax incentives. Obviously we lost so much manufacturing because the Obama admin didn’t.

Fingers are crossed our regular lightbulbs come back and Chevy will be allowed to remake the Trailblazer. Mine is almost 14 years old and it won’t last forever.

    • Anthony says:

Butthurt is also evident among the Never Trumpers as well, with the whining about “government contracts” being part of the deal. I’m beginning to really enjoy their outbursts

      • DeniseVB says:

I can see a “deal” for govt contracts being only for products made in the USA ? That would bring greater incentives to stay in country and produce stuff. Trump understands how contract bidding works too. I don’t think Obama’s admin (or others?) even made attempts to let corp’s bid for govt work (like Cheney’s Enron?) they just tossed bags of our tax money at their biggest corporate donors.

I’m starting to think nevertrump butthurt and liberal tears give Lord God of Trump his great powers, lol !

        • Anthony says:

Agree with you on incentives and contract bidding. Nice to finally have a POTUS who will understand that. As I already said, I’m really beginning to enjoy the Lib/NeverTrump crowd’s butthurt. A lot. 😀

          • Constance says:

Me too! The stock market is on fire again today, that has to be killing the Libs and Never Trumpers. The consumer optimism should mean good sales for Christmas and fuel the stock run up even more.

          • Anthony says:

Yet, Libs and Never Trumpers will continue to rail against this positive reality until their heads explode. I’m loving this. Does that make me a bad person?

        • foxyladi14 says:

          Exactly Denise!! 😀

        • Venus says:

There is already a Buy American Act on the books — and has been since 1933 — that requires US government to give products made in USA. That requirement however can be waived if domestic product is 25% or more expensive than foreign counterpart or when it is “in the public interest.”

There is also a Buy America Act that is specific to infrastructure spending that applies to mass transit related spending by state/local governments that are funded at least in part by federal grants.

So Trump doesn’t need to get Congress to pass a fucking law — he just needs to instruct his head of contracting activity to stop waiving the BAD requirements in ALL cases.

  4. Venus says:

Ah, I love a daily Fuck You to the establishment/MSM.
What makes this one especially good is that a mere 6 hours before the Carrier tweet, the Washington Post published this:

Beware of Donald Trump’s con on manufacturing jobs
As a longtime celebrity and television performer, Donald Trump knows the value of a good story to shape people’s views of a larger issue, even if what you’re convincing them to believe is utterly false. There’s an economic story developing — about two factories in Indiana that belong to the Carrier corporation — that Trump is hoping to use as a triumphant tale demonstrating how he’ll make America great again by bringing factory jobs back, particularly in areas that were once manufacturing hubs but are now distressed.
It’s based on a fundamental lie about the American economy. But the story will still be powerful, and it’ll be some time before most people realize how hollow it is.
You may have heard about how Carrier, which makes things like furnaces, announced earlier this year that they’re going to move 2,000 jobs from two plants in Indiana to Mexico in order to save on labor costs. On the campaign trail, Trump brought up Carrier frequently, saying that he would convince them, either through inducements or threats, to keep those jobs here. And he’s already working on it: “Representatives for the incoming administration, including Vice President-elect Mike Pence, have held wide-ranging policy talks with top-ranking executives at Carrier’s parent company, United Technologies Corp.,” reports the Wall Street Journal.
    [. . .]
But the most important reason manufacturing jobs have disappeared is automation.

PS: the idiot MSM is already complaining about 1000 American families keeping their jobs because the only way it happened was because Trump/Pence *bribed* Carrier to stay with tax incentives (as if TIFs are a new thing). /eyeroll I guess they’d rather a town in Mexico have the jobs and the other economic advantages that employed populous creates (retail, restaurants, grocery stores, housing etc). Dumb as fucking shit these people.

    • Venus says:

*Sorry, forgot to close the blockquote tag after link. The PS is not part of the quote.

    • DeniseVB says:

      “…major celebrity and tv performer….”

WaPo hates to admit he built a yuuuge global empire too ? What other major celebrity and tv performer has done that since Lucy-Desi ?

    • Constance says:

Still, dumb is obviously one of God’s favorite models of human because she/he makes a lot of dumb people and I doubt that will ever change. Democrats have a strategy for dealing with dumb people and harvesting their votes. Republicans need to develop an ongoing outreach to dumb people too and talking with them about facts hasn’t worked and won’t work. They need narratives and they need to feel like they belong, in fact so many of them don’t have religion that many of them need the things religion usually provides. Republicans need to adapt to this reality to keep themselves in power.

  5. Somebody says:

So what do you all think about the Romney thing? I fail to believe Trump is seriously considering him for SOS.

I don’t know how I feel about Rudy either. He’s been loyal, but I kind of get the vibe that confirmation might be an issue for him due to business dealings. The thought of that gives me pause because the R’s have the majority so what the hell is lurking out there?? Also, does Rudy want the job so he can run it like Hillary??? I don’t know.

I’m not a big fan of John Bolton he’s a little to hawkish for me and I think he wants to promote his own policies not necessarily POTUS policies. I liked K.T. McFarland, but her name wasn’t ever mentioned. I’ve also thought about former VP Dan Quayle even though his name hasn’t ever come up, then lo and behold he was at Trump Towers yesterday. SOS is about the only position I could think of that Quayle would be considered for or would consider taking, but maybe he was just there as an advisor and has no interest in any kind of cabinet position???

    • jeffhas says:

I think Romney gets SOS if that is what he’s really being considered for (I personally think he was only ever being considered for VA, since that would be the best use of his talents), that statement he made last night is an ‘I humbly bow before the Vanquisher’ speech. I feel he gets a seat at the big boy table for sure.

Agree about Rudy… too conflicting, and his reasoning for wanting the job “I’ve travelled all over the word for my company” sounds kinda trite to begin with and tailor made for conflict in the end.

The problem is really what to give Rudy if you don’t give him what he wants – because he clearly deserves something J-U-I-C-Y after the stand up job he did in supporting Trump (I mean look what he did after Acces Hollywood!). DHS? – is that enough?….

    • votermom says:

Trump seems to be intent on uniting the party and thereby getting shit done.
He hired Priebus, Ryan’s best friend, for a top job.
He hired McConnell’s wife for an important infrastructure post (Dept of Transportation).

I think he does want Mitt on board the Trump train.
I also think he rewards loyalty (his Treasury Sec is his campaign finance chair frex).

I think both Mitt & Rudy will get Cabinet posts.

    • Constance says:

Rudy is too old to take on a new career. I know Trump is about the same age but he is just doing the same CEO job he has always done but for a new company, the USA. Boulton is too extreme. Romney needs to fix the VA, he might be the only person who can.

      • Lulu says:

Mitt could overhaul the civil service. It would take a few years then he could retire. That would cover the VA too which has most of its problems with unions and civil service “rules” protecting lousy personnel.

    • elliesmom says:

There are two departments that not only need to be drained. They also need to be dredged. One is the DOJ, and the other is State. Romney is an expert at draining and dredging. Trump can run foreign relations from the Oval for awhile. Even if it’s only for half of Trump’s first term, Romney could ferret out the ME apologists and convince them it’s time to leave. Declare it’s now “Arab Winter”. Half of them would probably quit before Day One if they know someone who’s also willing to say “You’re fired!” is going to be taking over at Foggy Bottom. While I agree those skills are sorely needed at the VA, State is worse.

Now EVERYONE can laugh at how stupid and gullible they are.

      • Somebody says:

Do they trash gays on their show?? Do they refuse to hire gays? Do they refuse to work for gays? Do the proselytize on their show? I thought it was a home improvement show, is it a thinly veiled religious show?? Even if it is, it apparently gets good ratings and everybody in this country is free to change the channel so I’m guessing people like what they’re seeing so what is the deal??

I’m confused, apparently these people are Christians and like most Christian churches their church believes homosexuality is a sin. Christianity is the majority religion in the USA and we have freedom of religion. Who exactly is buzzfeed trying to stir up shit with??

        • Lulu says:

They are trying to get their show cancelled. No one is allowed on television who doesn’t pass the gay test would be my guess. HGTV is going to ignore it because they make them too much money. Next they will try to go after their sponsors. I don’t think that will work either for someone simply going to church. I think that tactic has passed. This election has changed everything. PC shit is dead.

        • lateblum says:

Christianity isn’t the only religion that bans homosexuality. If I Recall Correctly, So does Islam.
Do you think if Joanna wore a hijab or a burka, Cosmo would make the same issue and attack this couple and their show? Me neither.

        • elliesmom says:

Other than the time they renovated a house for a couple returning from being missionaries, I don’t think the subject of religion has ever come up. Never even saw them say grace before they eat. They model strong family values, but you don’t have to be religious to agree with them on that.

          • DeniseVB says:

Exactly, the left hates them because they’re happy.

          • Venus says:

Ha ha! You are true viewer — I remeber the missionaries episode too. Husband is a doctor and grown kids oversaw the buying of the house.

I do believe there is another episode (single mother recently divorced who ends up buying house directly behind her BFF) where Chip says they know her from church.
