  1. Gen-X and millennials need their own Pearl Harbor. The Greatest Generation and Baby Boomers have been too successful.

When Elliesdad and I graduated from college and got married, jobs were scarce. Nixon had instituted wage and price controls. In the first few years of our marriage the interest on a mortgage was as high as interest on your Mastercard. I was a second shift safety officer in a computer chip lab while my husband went to grad school nights. During the day while he worked, I made extra cash by driving people’s cars to the gas station and waiting in line to get 10 gallons of gas. Then going back to the parking lot to get another car. We put the money I made in the gas lines toward paying off our student loans. It took a lot of financial discipline, but we paid them off in less than five years by always having something “extra” we did that brought in some cash. Eventually, the economy turned around, we got better jobs, had a couple of kids, bought a house. Partly, it was because we both worked our tails off, but it also took the economy turning around.

Today’s snowflakes are entering the job market where the college degree they went into debt for gets them a job as a barista. Mortgage interest rates are low, but in the urban areas they seem to prefer housing costs are high. A lot of them were hoping for government jobs, and it appears those jobs may be going away. They blame people who voted for Trump for that. One of my young friends has an internship at the EPA. She was sure it would lead to a good job in June, but all they’re offering is a good reference. If Trump is able to boost the economy to a point where entry level jobs become prevalent, the Republican party is going to be the party that brought the snowflakes into financial success. Then the test for them will be whether who gets to use which bathroom is an over riding issue when they have a mortgage and a couple of kids.

Of course, an event like Pearl Harbor would do it, too.

    Speaking of ‘splodey things.

    • Lulu says:

An angry Muslim woman would like “splodey” things. She and her neutered husband lived in NYC for a couple of years (I think Clinton Foundation for hubby and international CNN desk for her) and she couldn’t stand it. So back to Londonistan for her. I think she is a spy.

I’ve been trying to follow the court case arguments on Brexit in the UK. The “Remoaners” are arguing the biggest bunch of elitist bullshit ever. Essentially it is that when Parliament authorized the UK public to decide if stay or remain, they didn’t really mean it. And if they did mean it they don’t have the power in the UK because they are just a thousand year old legislature which doesn’t mean anything because EU and globalism. And smart people like the Remoaners should decide these things and have freedom of movement to go to the south of France and buy oranges. Or something. It is nonsense. The globalists and their hirelings really are stupid.

    • taw46 says:

Yep, good summary. I still can’t get over the fact that a handful of people (one a hairdresser) were allowed to bring the initial lawsuit. And if Supreme Court upholds the High Court, then House of Commons has to vote to invoke Article 50. So it is true what they say, in all European countries the EU makes you vote over and over again until they get the results they want.

    • taw46 says:

That was reported in September, I am sure they are already here. That’s probably why Obama shut down the aerial surveillance of the border a couple of weeks ago. They are indeed all bastards.

  7. Lulu says:

I came across this article this morning and it is astounding in its cognitive dissonance and bigotry. http://www.nature.com/news/researchers-baffled-by-nationalist-surge-1.21110
Many economists see this political shift as a consequence of globalization and technological innovation over the past quarter of a century, which have eliminated many jobs in the West. And political scientists are tracing the influence of cultural tensions arising from immigration and from ethnic, racial and sexual diversity. But researchers are struggling to understand why these disparate forces have combined to drive an unpredictable brand of populist politics.”
“We have to start worrying about the stability of our democracies,” says Yascha Mounk, a political scientist at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He notes that the long-running World Values Survey shows that people are increasingly disaffected with their governments — and more willing to support authoritarian leaders.” …
“Trump also prevailed in part because the structure of the US electoral college gives outsized influence to Republican-leaning rural areas over Democratic urban centres. And some of his predominantly white supporters voted for President Barack Obama, a Democrat, in past elections.”

These “elite” academicians cannot see past their own noses and prejudices. This is probably really good for Trump in the medium term because they are too bigoted and tunnel-visioned to understand much of anything. The Dems are really fucked because these are the loons who give them talking points.

    • XFR says:

The surge against neoliberalism really began in the late 1990s. It was predominantly left-wing in character back then and was brutally suppressed under the guise of the “War on Terror” narrative that said neoliberalism was essential to national security and needed to be imposed by whatever force necessary.

After 15 further years of being force-fed shit sandwiches even the right has had enough and it too, now, is in open revolt. So now the neoliberals are trying to co-opt the grassroots left that they spent years ploughing under and launching a new campaign to suppress the uprising on the right, but the left aren’t their natural allies and they are trapped by the old “War on Terror” messaging that the right has co-opted away from them.

This leftist remembers, and isn’t on board with that crap.

we have come from Pearl Harbor to this. It saddens me on the state of critical thinking in this country

    • helenk3 says:

      how conservatives outintellectualized progressives

pretty interesting article. different ways of thinking

      • Lulu says:

It wasn’t that hard to out-intellectualize self-appointed “smarties” who carefully stay in their bubble. The article in Nature I cited above is an example. One of the things that progs expressly do is exclude works that do not currently fit their world view (white priveledge, etc) so they have nothing to build on. Not only do they have no understanding of the implosion of the Bourbon dynasty they don’t know it even existed. Another good example is the student movement in South Africa rejecting science (like electrical engineering) and mathematics (including bookkeeping arithmetic) because it was “invented” by whites and they don’t want it taught in schools there because “white privilege”. Eventually under this reasoning they will have NO power grid and NO currency but they will not be burdened with “white privilege”.

I hope at least the twit donated her hair to make wigs for cancer victims

    • XFR says:

No candidate in living memory has been as reviled by the establishments of both major parties as Trump. The weird kid-gloves treatment the protests are getting, and the continued Trumpocalypse messaging from the media, make me wonder if this is all an attempt to provide cover for a coup attempt in the Electoral College.

Trump supporters can’t just sit on their laurels and dismiss all this as the work of a bunch sore-loser “snowflakes”. They need to organize, FAST, to make their voices heard and demand that the electors respect 200 unbroken years of American democracy, and uphold the election.

      • taw46 says:

I must admit, I worry as well. Seems like too many moving parts not to be organized in some way. For what purpose? Too simply delegitimize his Presidency or to take it away from him?

  14. DeniseVB says:

Obama is so clueless. I don’t believe active duty military can protest or criticize the President, at least publicly? https://www.thebalance.com/military-folks-and-politics-3332818

    • helenk3 says:

is that only after he leaves office. they would be declared racist if they did it now. I do not think they are allowed to protest under the uniform code of justice. I am not sure about that.

      • DeniseVB says:

The link above the tweet pretty much spells out the rules of the UCMJ that the only political thing active troops can do is vote. It’s why Obama likes to speak to them, they can’t boo him 😉

He lies about everything all the time. Just like Hillary.

Just think about that for a moment……….an outgoing president, once the IDOL of kajillions, in his final days is forced into speaking before on duty service members on a military instillation in order to obtain – at best – a neutral audience…….for background photo shoot opportunities ONLY. NO OTHER PURPOSE WAS ALLEGED OR CLAIMED. Sad times for Bronco. ALMOST feel sorry for him.

      Well, that’s not true.

    • taw46 says:

That was good. I especially like how he defined the loony left.

This includes the FakeStream Media Community; the Precious Snowflake Community; the Paid Rioters Inc. I think the Dems are using this to create the same hatred toward Milo that they did against Breitbart. I’d be amazed if this is not what my own son read or was told in order to influence him to, with little impunity, pass on the tweets by others of Milo as gospel. When he sent me something written about what Milo said (I can’t recall the context) and I didn’t recoil, but rather laughed, he became enraged that I would support the “horrible” content of the quote. I tried to explain the sarcasm and then compared him to Colbert’s rhetoric. That’s when my son said, “But Colbert is a comedian”.

The virtue signaling has driven these idiots round the bend. If they don’t have to follow any laws or traditions or constitutional requirements except the voices in their heads neither do I. And I want to drive 90 MPH and not pay federal taxes. Because I’m smarter and more moral than they are. Every body do what they want! Yippee!

      • taw46 says:

Lord know how many more federal lawsuits, recounts, riots, whiney shit we will have to put up with before Trump takes office. Should be enough to turn even more people away from those Idiots. More support for Trump.

        • Lulu says:

I would like to be in the courtroom when these fools tell a federal judge that their judgement, smartness, superior knowledge, morality, “goodness” should take precedence over a national and state vote by the people. They will probably try to tell him/her that they don’t have to follow a judge’s order either because they are smarter and more moral than a judge is too resulting in judge’s fire out the ears and nostrils! Who could ever trust these people again since they are such liars rationalizing doing whatever they want. Imagine employing such sneaking lying freaks who you could not trust for jack shit.

Attempts to undermine and destroy the US government. Sounds like treason to me.

    • votermom says:

Not a fan of this Pope but it sounds more like he’s talking about the media.

Francis said scandal-mongering media risk falling prey to coprophilia, or arousal from excrement, and the consumers risk coprophagia, or eating excrement.
“I think the media have to be very clear, very transparent, and not fall into – no offense intended – the sickness of coprophilia, that is, always wanting to cover scandals, covering nasty things, even if they are true,” he said, according to Reuters.

“And since people have a tendency towards the sickness of coprophagia, a lot of damage can be done.”

The pope also warned that spreading disinformation is “probably the greatest damage that the media can do” because “it directs opinion in only one direction and omits the other part of the truth.”

      • Lulu says:

I really think they are just trying to pump up their neurons or something so they can function a little bit. Outrage (always external so they don’t have to deal with their personal problems) gets them out of bed in the morning and fixing their PopTarts themselves for breakfast. The election hit them where it hurts which is their below normal synapses that don’t fire correctly. They were in a funk and couldn’t get off the floor. Then OUTRAGEY OUTRAGE saved them from having to go back and live with grandma to supervise them. It all seems like a manic phase that will burn out eventually as they exhaust themselves.

    • swanspirit says:
