What The Hell Were They Thinking?

Seriously, WTF?

House Republicans Humiliated; Reverse Plans to Gut House Ethics Oversight

House Republicans suddenly reversed plans to change the rules of the House Ethics Oversight panel, in a public humiliation to kick off the 115th Congress.
In a hastily arranged meeting on Capitol Hill, the Republican conference scrambled to kill the rules changes proposal before a scheduled vote and after President-elect Donald Trump publicly ridiculed them for their ham-handed timing on the issue.

Other tough ethics organizations, including Judicial Watch, criticized the proposed rule changes.

“The American people will see this latest push to undermine congressional ethics enforcement as shady and corrupt,” Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton said in a statement. “The full House should seriously consider whether it wants to bear the brunt of public outrage and go through with the rule change this afternoon.”

Democrats and the media piled on as well, ridiculing Republicans for trying to weaken the panel despite many of them campaigning to drain the swamp.

“Republicans claim they want to ‘drain the swamp,’ but the night before the new Congress gets sworn in, the House GOP has eliminated the only independent ethics oversight of their actions,” House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said in a statement. “Evidently, ethics are the first casualty of the new Republican Congress.”

House Speaker Paul Ryan was vocally opposed to the proposed reforms, according to a senior congressional source, but he ultimately failed to lead Republicans away from the public relations disaster that ensued.

This is why I am an independent – you can’t trust any of them fuckers. Even worse, it was stupid. If you plan on pulling some shady shit, wait until people are distracted. This reminds me of some of my old criminal law clients who did stuff so egregious it was like they wanted to get caught.

“Let’s see, you were driving a stolen car at night with expired tags and you were carrying 2 ounces of meth and a bunch of stolen credit cards and you had a warrant for your arrest and a search and seizure clause in your probation terms and the car’s tail light was broken. Is that right?”

“Why didn’t you just pull up in front of the police station and honk your horn?”

Since it’s Tin Foil Hat Tuesday I’ll reach in my ass and pull out some wild speculation that this was engineered by the GOPe to sabotage Trump.

Instead of recognizing that men and women communicate in groups differently, it’s the man’s fault the point was made and the group is ready to move on, but is stuck listening to another person stating the obvious. OK, I’m projecting but I’ve been in those groups. Fortunately I had a woman boss who’d cut thru the crap and get things moving again.

  1. Apparently this tweet got the trannies all wee-wee’d up.

    • CiscoKid says:

      That’s what irks me.
These fucks never want to engage in meaningful talks, you know, try to change your mind.
      No, they DEMAND, always DEMAND.
Now what the NACCP should do is get their ass’s of Sessions floor and go sit in Rahmn Emanuel’s office and ask him to withdraw as Mayor or explain the 795 homicides and 4378 shot in the predominantly black neighborhoods with blacks being a majority of the the victims.
      I didn’t think so.

      • lateblum says:

        Good point, Cisco.

      • lateblum says:

Another good point is that they have NO IDEA what Senator Sessions has or has not done wrt integration in the state of Alabama. Maybe if they did know, they wouldn’t act like a bunch of snowflake wannabes.

        • Somebody says:

Jackasses the lot of them. BTW I thought they changed the rules so you can’t have sit ins any more, was that just for the house?

          • AFVet says:

I saw that floating around and some of them raised hell because of it.
That last one was on the house floor, not an office.
We’re dealing with contemptuous children here.

        • CiscoKid says:

They know, it’s just the beginning or maybe just the continuing attacks on anything Trump does or says.
And I think a little grandstanding is involved.
They took a selfie because of no media coverage .

        • Lulu says:

They don’t care. They are taking orders from the White House and DNC. All the Dems got currently is spite and faux symbolism as virtue signalling. No one cares. They are boring. Same old same old. Empty gestures signifying nothing. Notice they didn’t try to pull this stunt in Session’s Capitol Hill office as it would have inconvenienced Schumer et al too.

      • Underwhelmed says:

Plus they are seriously stupid. They actually believe this is going to win them wider influence and support. The election taught them nothing but how to double down on failure.

      • AFVet says:

Where the hell is the capitol police?
Haul their grinning black asses out of there.

      • 49erDweet says:

That would imply there’s something fixably wrong with Chicago’s murder rate.

      • Lulu says:

Where he will be abused, ABUSED!, by the jail staff because he only gets a dollar meal from Burger King for breakfast and use of a pay phone! Horrible!

A funny, my husband has this terrible habit of hiding checks. I don’t know why, but if a check comes in the mail or someone writes us a check he fucking hides it and then forgets where he put it. It’s maddening, frustrating……OMFG! You don’t know the stale checks I’ve found, you don’t know the arguments…….this habit of his might set me off just a touch, OK a lot. I don’t get why he does that, what kind of mental issue that causes it….but he’s always been that way. Thank God we have direct deposit for most everything and we rarely get checks in the mail.

With that in mind, I’ve been cleaning and clearing out clutter. I just now found a check from our insurance company dated 2014. I kid you not, that check was a re-issue of a check I apparently found in 2010, according to the paperwork with the check I had returned the previous stale check and asked for a re-issue…….head-desk. WHY???

If the insurance company won’t re-issue again then the $70 will turn up on the state treasury site and I can claim it. Thank God I found the escrow overage check before it went stale because that was almost $600.

    • mcnorman says:

Don’t feel bad, I have one of these in my house as well. I notice that the mail gets picked up (the box is 20′ from the front door) every month now if I leave it up to this “helpful” person.

    • 49erDweet says:

Your hubby is putting it somewhere safe until he can deposit it. Don’t blame HIM for having so many safe storage places in your house that he can’t remember where they all are. It’s not HIS fault.

    • swanspirit says:

So now she can really go after Trump. Wouldn’t surprise me if that was in the contract.

      • Lulu says:

She imploded as a news “personality” at the first debate. She literally killed her own career. The Murdoch’s egged her on. She imploded. Other Fox “talent” already disliked her as a nutty, kind of trashy, diva. They didn’t want to go down the drain with her. She is shunned so now is leaving for less money. This is a huge demotion to a network with few viewers. This is what NOT to do with a career.

Seems that Barry is pulling up a little lame.

Even though the cars were shitty in those years, I can see Trump respecting this guys attitude.
This a kinda like what Trump wants to do for the country.

WikiLeaks vows to ‘BLOW YOU AWAY’ in 2017 ‘Showdown’

    The 2017 Showdown

WikiLeaks had a monster year in 2016 releasing information that helped shape the 2016 Presidential election. Now WikiLeaks is vowing to have an even bigger year in 2017.

If you thought 2016 was a big WikiLeaks year 2017 will blow you away. Help @WikiLeaks prepare for the showdown: https://t.co/MsNZhrTzTL pic.twitter.com/wzhFiKjNGI

    — WikiLeaks (@wikileaks) January 2, 2017

The whistle-blowing site published thousands of documents exposing US political secrets, covert trade deals and private communications from global leaders which earned them a lot of time in the spotlight.

WikiLeaks also confirmed that founder Julian Assange will take part in a Reddit Ask Me Anything (AMA) on Thursday at 9am EST.

I think it is funny that the Dems and GOPe only have “kill the messenger” as a strategy. Depending on what he is releasing each group has thought he was great in the past.

    • CiscoKid says:

I don’t think it’s registered with the Dem’s that they lost and we won.
Besides, just like Barry, Trump has a pen and phone also.🖋😛📞

      • 49erDweet says:

        And a sharper intellect, too.

        • CiscoKid says:

Re-reading it just occurred to me.
          “Abandon his Republican colleagues.”
Seems like abandoning is a major theme in the Dem party, you know, just like they did to Israel.
Abandon the Republicans just before the battle really begins?
Be a coward and run over to their side?
Oh, boy, have they misjudged Trump.
Betray the American people that voted for him, no e’efin way.
It’s almost laughable, come over to the side that lost.

    • DeniseVB says:

We seem to have 3 parties now, Repubs, Dems and Trump. 🙂

      • Constance says:

Mostly the Republicans seem willing to follow Trump. They actually seemed to regret trying to kill the ethics committee after being called out about it.

    • Constance says:

The Dems think they can still make up a narrative of how the Republicans can’t accomplish anything and we will buy their papers, TV channels and eat up their load of bull like it’s chocolate. But we actually have some real sources of news so it won’t work. Dems will look like the uncaring obstructionists they are.

  9. AFVet says:

Mitch McConnell had better watch his ass.
    The following explains why.
He’s the only one on the gang of eight that was privy to what was going on during Benghazi, the rest of them went bye bye.
    Sundance says,
“If President Trump decides to go full swamp-draining wolverine on the intelligence community, McConnell is the only remaining GOP leading member who is substantively at risk from such a public exposition. All other GOP usurpers quit or retired from office.”

    “Go full swamp-draining wolverine”.
    I love it.
The pic of the lion says it all.

    • DeniseVB says:

LOL, very true. I remember Trump not answering the “accept the results” question at the debate by saying “we’ll see” which sent the left on a poor loser tirade. Then the left double-downed on loserville antics, priceless.

Here’s hoping the Clintons and Bushes attending the Inauguration will send a closure signal to the snowflake wings of their parties. 🙂

      • taw46 says:

Well, let’s see if Hillary wears purple. 😉

        • Anthony says:

First thing I thought when I heard she’d be attending is “Bet she wears purple”

Last night, saw Tim Ryan (Pelosi’s challenger) being interviewed. He was wearing that same curious shade of purple necktie, and has been involved with HRC in the past.

Something tells me that a “new” pile of Progressive bullshit is being carefully and slowly branded

          • blowme0bama says:

Yeah, it’s like my memories of watching old commie Pete Seeger on Sesame Street as a child. He was all smiles and friendly but you could just look at him and tell he was up to something sneaky.

  12. Dora says:

Trump’s enemies are hoping that he changes his mind about the wall or that he really didn’t mean it in the first place. That’s why I’m so glad to see this.

    • Lulu says:

He is approaching it just like all of his other large building projects. When he is inaugurated he needs to call in the Army Corps of Engineers. Along the Rio Grande it needs to not interfere with the drainage. LOL. Too bad it can’t be built down the middle of the river. But maybe it can? Climbing or burrowing under a wall or fence in the middle of a river would not be easy.

    • Lulu says:

The enormous butthurt of Dems is driven by how much they are NOT going to be able to siphon off. Everything they do is centered around that one activity and ways to achieve it. The very idea that someone, anyone and everyone, who is not a member of their posse may be making money and NOT paying THEM makes them crazy and very, very angry.

    • Jadzia says:

Also, um, didn’t both the Obamas and the Clintons significantly increase their net worth between the time they entered office and the time they left? Too lazy to google.

    • Lulu says:

I think the Dems are just blah-blahing to keep the donations coming in. It is a zombie party now that needs blood, er, money to zombie on.

      • DeniseVB says:

We’re still getting fundraising letters from the RNC and DNC. One is Help Us Drain The Swamp and MAGA. The other is Help Us Stop Meanie Poopyhead Trump Destroy America. They’ll never learn!

        • Lulu says:

Yep. The Symbolism Race is on to keep the dummies sending in money! Maybe they could drag out Jill for some protests or whining/grimacing. Big Dog is reduced to a matching challenge (like a PBS station) to hustle up some bread for the Clinton Foundation cash flow. That is really funny since HIS money comes from the Clinton Foundation. So he is matching donors money with donors money!

    • Venus says:

Schumer better make all the hay he can now, once Trump is sworn in, Chuckie is going to end up like Kasich, Jeb!, et al. Where are they now? lol

Reminder — Trump destroys smug as Stephenopolous in less than 10 words:

  15. DeniseVB says:

    Well, fuck.

    • taw46 says:

Oh, no, Denise! Part of me would want to go anyway as a big FU to these assholes. And the other part of me would be a little nervous. I think the FU might win, though.

      • DeniseVB says:

The only thing that would stop me is if the venue cancelled. They’re inside the perimeter of security for the Inauguration and only ticket holders can get past the checkpoints. I remember the organizers being relieved there would be that extra layer of security.

This is like when my NYC hotel was in a locked down security block when the Obamas attended a theater performance. My hotel key got me in the zone.

    • Lulu says:

I think some ass whooping is going to happen. These chaos makers are going to meet some other chaos makers. Result will be chaos.

      • DeniseVB says:

The organizers are expecting that some troublemakers may have bought tickets to get inside the venue and will have them arrested and press charges for trespassing. RSBNtv will be livestreaming the entire event, will probably be the best viewing on teevee that night, lol.

  16. Dora says:

This is a terrible idea. NYS is broke!

Actually, Hillary criticized Bernie for his idea of free tuition. That means she is lying and probably getting ready to run again.

    • Somebody says:

She has to run for something to stay relevant, either that or Bill or Chelsea need to convince people they’re running for something. The premise for their entire foundation is to sell influence, if none of them are in a position of power and especially if the D’s remain the minority their sphere of influence is diminishing.

    • DeniseVB says:

I’d be pissed if I were a parent that made 126k/year.

    • Jadzia says:

Free tuition is not a great blanket policy: people need to have SOME skin in the game. Here’s a radical proposal: how about REASONABLE tuition? Which actually, now that I look at it, seems to be close to what SUNY is charging: about $8K/year in tuition and fees. IMHO that’s a little high (I think it would generally not be possible to make 8K on top of living expenses as a student making minimum wage and oh yeah, GOING TO SCHOOL–SUNY estimates total living expenses at about 20K, which is probably high in some areas and low in others) for young people without parental assistance, but 5K would surely be reasonable. A student could either work a couple of jobs (not a great idea if you want to do well, but whatever), or come out with a more reasonable student loan payment on the other end.

OR HERE’S AN IDEA–how about restoring NEED-BASED financial aid? The kind that existed when all these fuckheads who call themselves legislators were young? So low-income students get a hand up. Student loans ARE NOT FINANCIAL AID–they are a deferred bill. Is a car loan “automotive financial aid”? Is a mortgage “housing aid”? Fuck no.

I wonder what SUNY’s tuition would be if the institution cut the fat–the PR teams, the branding committees, the diversity coordinators, non-intramural sports, and the like? Lower than 8K, I bet.

  17. Venus says:

    • Lulu says:

Funny that. The Republican congress critters didn’t mention that their switchboard blew up. They made is sound like it was THEIR idea to work on more important stuff. Lyin’ weasels.

    Absolutely the truth!

  19. kanaughty says:
