“Diversity is vastly more critical than competency”, according to a news release from the owners of the Titanic.

    • John Denney says:

      Too much whining.

Their facts are all but irrelevant. Relevant facts would have been something like, “Mr. X is far more qualified for Secretary of Y, but was apparently passed over because he is not white. [Insert facts of qualification comparisons here]”

    • John Denney says:

In Whittaker Chambers’ autobiographical book, “Witness”, he stated that in the 1920s the Soviets targeted three American institutions for infiltration: media, education, and unelected government positions. They were wildly successful, and have never been routed out.

They don’t have to name the march; we know what it is. I’m so glad Kellyanne will be there.

NY Times removes references to the ‘March for Life’ from article about…the ‘March for Life’

The New York Times managed this week to avoid almost all references to the “March for Life” in an article about – the “March for Life.”

The paper’s 700-plus-word report on Kellyanne Conway’s plan to address the annual gathering of pro-life activists in the nation’s capital referred to the event by its proper name only once, and it’s done five paragraphs into the story and in reference to an organizer’s job title.

    • John Denney says:

I’ve heard it said that Friday the 13th is the Egyptian view of Passover, which is on the 14th, but a Jewish “day” starts at sundown, so a Passover on Saturday the 14th would start on what Gentiles would call the evening of Friday the 13th.
Passover celebrates the final plague against Egypt which compelled Pharoah to free the Israelites from slavery. The Lord sent the death angel throughout Egypt in the night killing the firstborn of every household, except the ones where a lamb had been slaughtered and its blood daubed on the lintel and doorposts of a house. When the death angel saw that sign, he passed over that house, hence Passover.
To Christians, it’s also a foreshadowing of being “saved by the blood of the Lamb”. It’s curious that though thousands of households of Israelites would slaughtered a lamb, in the original language in Exodus it says, “the entire congregation shall kill him”. Him, masculine, singular, not “them”, not “it” as in King James (Hebrew has no neuter gender). The Passover lamb is always referred to in the singular, which leads to John the Baptist saying of Jesus, “Behold the Lamb of God”
It’s also interesting that all households with the blood of the lamb on the lintel and doorposts were passed over, whether or not they were Israelites, and when the Israelites left Egypt, “a mixed multitude went with them”.

  7. DeniseVB says:

Just from the rumblings on social media, I don’t think the women’s march is going to have that big a turnout with all the hijacking and in-fighting.

    • elliesmom says:

Because my pussy hat knitting buddies said there was a severe shortage of pink yarn in the US because of all the pussy hats being made for the march, you know me, I just had to check. I went to all of the online shops I know of that sell appropriate yarn, looked for pink, and loaded 100 skeins in my shopping cart, including places like JoAnn and Michael’s. Amazon was the only place that couldn’t fill my order, but they didn’t have 100 skeins of any color. Lots of hyperbole about the march, I think.

Yes, the Marijuana tax is very tempting. It won’t be long until the whole country legalizes pot and it will be a financial decision not one based on morals.

      • Somebody says:

        100% spot on Constance

      • John Denney says:

I seem to remember the dogma being that you can’t legislate morality. Did that dogma change?

      • mothy67 says:

Have you ever known a “sin tax” to accomplish anything? I wish some journalist with integrity would track the monies raised. Where does it go. We have a county wide 7% alchol tax. I paid thousands a month. Result increased fares, fewer routes. Are we paying tax to cover unfunded pensions.

  9. Venus says:

Don Suber has a nice post on singers who have performed for Saddam Hussein and other despots who now refuse to perform for Trump.

In 2011, Wikileaks obtained detailed documentation that the Gaddafi family had been quietly collecting musicians the way normal people collect those musicians’ albums, including Nelly Furtado, 50 Cent, Beyonce, Mariah Carey, and Usher, all of whom had performed in separate private events for several of Gaddafi’s sons. For their troubles, they were rewarded royally — the average payout was a million dollars per performance. Generally speaking, if someone is willing to pay you a million dollars for a private concert, that guy got his trust fund in blood diamonds.

I may have to get a subscription to Cracked now 🙂 Love Surber, been a fan since he was doing editorials for that Charleston paper and a bigger fan after he was fired for criticizing Obama.

    • John Denney says:

And to think it wasn’t that long ago that Christian bakers and photographers were sued and in some cases put out of business for refusing to provide their services.

      I sense moral superiority issues.

Is anyone listening to the BS loretta lynch is spouting? Chicago Police should get a case of the blue flu until Jan 21st 2017.

has there ever been a time in the last 8 years where this bunch have backed the police over murdering thugs?

    • CiscoKid says:

According to Rahm Emanuel, Chicagos Mayor, Police are the problem.
      But, wait, FBI thinks differently.
There are stunning new crime numbers from the FBI: in Chicago, it isn’t just murders and shootings that are up – it is all violent crime.

Newly-obtained FBI data show that the crime surge in Chicago goes beyond the end of a gun. Overall violent crime – an umbrella figure that includes murder, rape, robbery and assault – jumped significantly here the first half of last year, an increase more than four times higher than the rest of the nation.

According to this FBI report, violent crime in the U.S. increased a little more than five percent the first half of last year. But in Chicago during the same period, overall violent crime heaved 24 percent.

While the numbers were driven by a surge in Chicago murders – 49 percent higher than the previous year – FBI data show the increase in all violent crime categories in Chicago is significantly outpacing the nation, with aggravated assault up 23 percent and robbery 28 percent higher.

    • DeniseVB says:

Why did the WaPo state National Guard will be unarmed along the parade route? Geesh, thanks for alerting the thugs of that. The Capitol building, National Mall and White House are all inside a giant “safe space” and entry points will be heavily guarded with ARMED peeps. Protesting outside of their permitted areas will also be enforced. What’s left for them to do is destroy a couple of blocks in some poor, unguarded area.

Confession. I’m not sleeping that well. Getting up all hours of the night.
America has been thru many dark and stormy days, but we’ve survived.
History only grants countries greatness once, maybe twice if they fuck up the first time.
To the best of my knowledge, never thrice.
We are on eve of the restoration of Americas true greatness, pride and its place on the world stage.
All, I repeat, all Americans will benefit.
