Why Are Democrats Freaking Out Over Betsy DeVos?

Betsy DeVos, nominee for education secretary.

Betsy DeVos, nominee for education secretary.

Democrats across the nation are weeping, wailing, and gnashing their teeth over a woman named Betsy. So what’s the big fucking deal?

The Hill:

Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) blasted Betsy DeVos, President Trump’s pick to lead the Department of Education, as Democrats staged a late-night protest over her nomination.

“During her hearing, Ms. DeVos proved beyond a shadow of a doubt not only that her ideology is fundamentally incompatible with the mission of the Department of Education, but that she is fundamentally incompetent to be its leader,” Franken said Monday from the Senate floor.

“This is not a job for amateurs,” the former “Saturday Night Live” comedian added.

Democrats are staging a 24-hour protest over DeVos’s nomination ahead of the final vote expected to take place at noon Tuesday.

Franken pointed to DeVos’s lack of experience in public education, her unfamiliarity with testing and her support for school vouchers —which he argued don’t help low-income students — as a few of the myriad of reasons he will oppose her.

Once more, with laughter:

“This is not a job for amateurs,” the former “Saturday Night Live” comedian added.

Public education in this country is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Democrat party. The Department of Education was created by a Democrat (Carter). It has 4400 employees and a budget of approximately $73 billion per year. In terms of size and budget it is by far the smallest Cabinet Department. But it is just the tip of the iceberg.

Every state has it’s own Department of Education. They also have public school systems, including everything from pre-K all the way to post-grad. Most of the teachers and school administrators in this country are Democrats. That’s true at every level in every state.

Most public school teachers belong to public employee unions. Teachers unions are extremely powerful. Despite what they may claim, the primary focus of teachers unions is securing generous pay and benefits for teachers. Teachers unions donate mostly to Democrats. Individual teachers donate mostly to Democrats. That’s a lot of donations.

Remember the protests against Scott Walker in Wisconsin? Teachers provided a lot of the shock troops. Most of them managed to get paid while protesting. When teachers go on strike they leave parents scrambling to find child care.

Betsy DeVos represents a threat to the power of teachers and teachers unions. She also represents a threat to Democrat hegemony over education. Is it any surprise that Democrats hate Betsy?

But there is something even more important at stake here. Our public schools serve as indoctrination centers for our children. They indoctrinate our children into progressive ideology. They don’t call it indoctrination, but it is. Democrats will fight tooth and nail to keep control of that power.

And that’s the big fucking deal about Betsy DeVos.

  1. Somebody says:

You nailed it, the indoctrination is the BFD. Every student must be taught that climate change is the biggest threat……that Pearl Harbor was a communication mix up…….that the USA is bad and a bully and we were wrong and evil for our actions in various wars…….that the only place on the planet that ever enslaved anyone is the USA and we only enslaved Africans and only whites owned slaves.

I could go on and on, apparently a new edict will be that Russia stole the election for POTUS Trump. Perhaps that can get Keith Olbermann to help with writing that curriculum.

Most parents have no clue the amount of indoctrination that happens, unless they read the text books. Even if you homeschool you don’t necessarily escape it because of text books. Your choice of curriculum with homeschool particularly with science tends to either be public education books or books that tell you the sky is blue because that is how God wanted it to be. That’s an exaggeration, but not too far off the mark.

I’m still not completely convinced school choice is the end all be all. If the parents don’t GAF, odds are their child doesn’t either. Matters not public, private or charter school, your options are limited if there are problems at home. There will also be communities where no choice will be available, doesn’t matter what kind of voucher might be available if there isn’t any alternative. However for those families that it will provide options for I say BRAVO!

Precisely. It all starts out at home. I noticed back in the 80s that most parents thought the Dept of Education was the answer to everything.

The Boston area had a program called “METCO”. Students from the inner city could enter a lottery for empty seats in schools in the cities and towns that circle the city. The radius was about 20 miles. The kids were bused out everyday, and the high school kids could get a bus for extra- curricula activities on Saturday. Parents had to commit to attending two parent/teacher conferences each year. Kids applied in 4th grade, and once they were accepted into a suburban school, they had the seat through graduation. It was a great program, but because it required motivated parents to get their kids in, there were a lot of complaints that it wasn’t “fair”. It became such a political nightmare after 20 years of success, the host schools withdrew from the program. They let the kids already in high school finish out the 4 years. Kids in the lower grades were aged out when they completed 8th grade. It was one of those because everyone couldn’t have it, no one could things. I’m not sure what the folks who got it shutdown accomplished for the kids who didn’t get to go. They still didn’t get to participate.

New girl at school with an odd name. I asked brat what color she was. We argued about whether it is racist to ask about someone’s ethicity. I think the closest I have ever come to expressing anything inappropriate is we laugh that the black family always seems to win on family feud. I am not one to bite my tongue. P C bores. I am not allowed to comment that the two asian boys are rock stars at math. I wonder if she thinks I loathed obama because of hue. God only knows what they drill into their heads. Some garbage has already been inculcated about gender fluidity.
How about they just teach the 3 R’s. They have a bullying class. I think twice a week. Regular classes are conducted via google translate. ESL students are taken out of the classroom for one-on-one. Class doesn’t move ahead. I don’t understand why the non English students aren’t sent to a bigger school that has the resources. They do it with the gifted children. Pup gets some with math, but she works her ass off. Not a math brain. I encourage her to see it as a story. Equations really are stories. Special trips to local universties did not happen because she is a “natural”. I took the time over the last 7 years to play an active part. I was in the Dollar Store and an older man said to, I assume, his daughter that they should by a toy cash machine to teach again what I assume was his granddaughters. She very eloquently said “fuck no” that’s the schools job. WTF a grandfather being told do not participate in a child’s education.
How did this happen. Parents look to schools to raise their kids. No responsibility. No its your fucking kid. Do all especially asking for help, but do not blindly expect teachers to raise your kids. .
I have said this a hundred times before. I missed a bus had to take a local. I walked into a welfare day concentration camp. I smelled shirt right away. Little girl I had only just met a few times was a few months old. I picked her up and chubby arms wrapped around my neck. I had thought I was home for a week I can pick up a kid. Cribs lined along a wall. Awful smell. Like she got touched on the hour for a minute that was it.
I quit NYC. She never went back to awful place. My entire life dissolved around her.
I read De Blasio wanting to expand that. foulest thing I have ever seen. What becomes of a kid that is just a drop off at a welfare daycare?
Of course 10 years in I cannot remember a time before her. What if I hadn’t met her. I am no hero. I simply want to say welfare daycare is hell. It can never substitute early learning. Especially how the kid sees the world. What is it like to lay alone as a crying kid sometimes in your own excrement. Welfare child care is awful. I saw it first hand.
Shut off the spigot for illegals on welfare and support low income mothers with real help. Teach them to cook. Budget. Own tomorrow not suffer from yesterday.

      • Somebody says:

Well I can’t say much about the grandparents at some point you want to retire from raising kids. Now I would have said it’s the parents job or the parents concern instead of the school, but I get grandpa’s sentiment. That being said, the dollar store? Come on Gramps you can spare a buck.

        • mothy67 says:

Gramps was there. Crack head daughter not so much. She stopped him. Casual bystander he had guilt for his child. I know how I can play my parents. I don’t. Some time in the seventies/eighties it became okay to blame your parents for everything . Maybe it was accessible therapy. Everyone blames mom and dad. Now it has extropolated to big government. Who knew having multiple open hear surgeries would lead me to scream shut up you whiners. At 50 I watch my very affluent friends collapse overTrump calling things as he sees them. LGBTQ shite. They pretend to feel all this stuff. So sensitive and intellectual beyond. I grew up in a steel town. My dad was afraid of me. I was slight and gay. I was still his sick son. 16 I was washing dishes.worked . Always a job. I had younger siblings. JC Penny lay away. Sometimes my dad did not understand me. He chased me sometimes to beat me. I always got away. 1982 my dad hated having a f a g for a son. He did. He was ashamed. Dude looked like James Dean. Sure some of his not wanting his son to be gay stems from that.
Flash forward 2017. I am raising a now 10 year old with my parents. I do not need some elitist telling me how to feel. My “odyessy” will never be defined by anyone else.
Oddly late 80’s I worked with a woman that went on to be one of the writer’s for Matthew Shephard Story. Well before it was called out for being untrue. I said the play is untrue. I grew up in poverty. People do not gay bash. Does not happen. The writers defended the essence. WTF. Essence means you can make everyone lookblike an asshole, because that’s how you see people. Ugh

Amen. It’s just getting boring now, as well as exhausting. I’m finding more hours in my day since I’ve unplugged.

      • Constance says:

I agree! At the Superbowl party they were all talking about how long it will take for Trump to be impeached, with total confidence that he will be. Also they were talking about 2020 and tossing around whether they would run Hillary or Bernie or Warren. I asked them why their old farts don’t stand down and encourage the Democrat youth to stand up. They just blabbed “Trump is old too” Well DUH! but they still need to run some younger people.

        • Venus says:

Same people who guaranteed Trump would not win a primary, who not win the nomination and would not win the GE are now guaranteeing that he will not serve 4 years.

And much to my surprise, a lot of people I thought had a brain, do not. They can barely put together a cohesive sentence, much less a reasoned out exchange of views. They sputter, fume, and prognosticate doom. Boring.

    • Somebody says:

I have to defend the US schools a bit. While I believe there is vast room for improvement in our education system, these rankings are not entirely fair. Most of the countries ahead of us have vastly different systems where kids at a certain age generally between 6th and 8th grade are tested and many rooted out of the system. Whatever their aptitude is they are pigeon holed. Could be vocational, could be math, science, the arts, could be directly to the fields or sweat shops.

In the USA we don’t do that education is available to all k-12 or in some states pre-K through an AA.

So those comparisons are apples and oranges. A more fair comparison would be to take our top 20 or 25% in each subject matter and compare those scores. I’ve seen articles where they’ve attempted to do that, although we score much higher we’re still not number 1.

If we’re going to participate in these international rankings we should insist on leveling the field and attempt to have a true apple to apple comparison.

  6. AFVet says:

Sean Hannity was just on a rant as to why congress has had 8 years to come up with a replacement for Obama care and they still don’t have one.
Also, they said they would have tax reform on Trump’s desk by year’s end, not good enough.
Trump is going to find out that the glacial speed at which congress moves is going to hinder his ability to get things done on a timely basis and I don’t think he is going to put up with it.

I have tweeted this website out but will put it here again in case you missed it.
All of the congress critters are on there with their voting records and their websites and bills along with how they voted on them.

That is why he calls President Trump “Daddy”. Milo makes the special snowflakes and lefties crazy with the sly references to control issues and parental problems they have. To me it is one of the most interesting things he does.

  10. Venus says:

Joss Whedon is a good example — crying over Betsy Devos, attended Riverdale Country School in NY (if you aren’t familiar with the “country” and “country day” schools — they are pretty much as elite as can get).

    • True story. Country and Country Day are synonymous with “my white parents were rich af.”

      • Lulu says:

If labor unions (especially public employee unions) stop ponying up most of the money for Dems, rich guys like Whedon will be expected to take up the slack. Horrors! If you look at their contributions in dollars as compared to their income, it is peanuts. He would rather contribute “in kind” as a public service asshole to the cause. Really he is just cheap.

We need to call them out on this ASAP and continually.

    • Lulu says:

She is a liar. It is proven. She is a fraud. It is proven. She doesn’t think rules apply to her. Which is not uncommon in loons. She chose poorly and now has to pay the price. She has no respect for anything but her own greed and ambition. Shake that scrawny fist angry granny and make everyone remember Dems are the party of old, angry, rich, fake, entitled people who say stupid shit. Remind everyone why you and your cronies lost a national election.

      • Anthony says:

        Yet, she continues…

        • Lulu says:

She is very ambitious and always has been. She built her brand on bull shit. She is a climber from way, way back. Second or third rate intellect, stole stuff on finance, etc from her students, took money from asbestos companies for legal counsel to avoid paying dying people, gave up license in NJ because she is an incompetent lazy butt, usury to her idiot relatives, had babies so she didn’t have to get a job and pay back student loans strategically, dropped husbands who were no longer useful, moves states when fucks up, etc. She is a cross between Hillary and Wendy Davis.

          • Anthony says:

I encourage her to continue. Pretty soon, the Dems will have nothing but a hapless base of about 15%

          • Lulu says:

They are pretty much there already. Manic depressives, personality disordered, and/or professional Demcrats who get their daily beans from them is mostly what is left. And “pretend” Dems who don’t want to fight with them but who don’t give a hoot and go along to get along and not get a divorce or fired. The media is just starting to notice their problems but have no idea of the depth because they never leave their cubicles. Companies are leaving “social media” because it doesn’t generate business and gets them in deep doo doo fast. Dems politicizing EVERYTHING has backfired.

  18. Just a tad overly dramatic:

So I just got off the phone with my mom and she shared some disturbing news. Especially so for me as the son of an immigrant, a Green Card holder until his death.

My former sister-in-law returned in the last couple of days from a family funeral in Peru. She’s an American, with passport, but originally from Peru. When her plane arrived at SFO, there were armed immigration/customs agents on the boarding ramp, right outside the plane’s door.

Every person exiting the plane was asked for their papers and scrutinized. This was a normal international flight, not from the countries of current trumpian concern. The next day, her friends told her that all international flights are being greeted thusly.

I’ve been traveling since I was two weeks old. I’m a dual national, but my US issued birth certificate shows I was born in Africa to an American woman and a Swiss man. This country has ALWAYS been the land of the free and customs and immigration folks are in their booths, lanes, aisles, etc. Not intimidating folks getting off the plane.

It’s beginning my friends. A moat is being created around us, between us and the rest of the world.

    • Lulu says:

Gee! I guess this person never reads any news nor can they retain that kind of information. Like about Bronco sending Gitmo terrorists to live in South American countries who then go missing. Or that ISIS is sending bomber/murderers around the world to enter the US illegally over the southern border from a pissed off Mexcio, or that ISIS criminals stole unknown thousands of blank Syrian passports and sells them, or etc. This persons fee-fees and demand for instant convenience upon travel does not exceed my right to be safe in my own country. I’m sorry this person has to go through life so stupid, vapid, and put upon but them’s the breaks. Another passenger could have explained it to them if they weren’t a whiny selfish shit. Travel is a mess since Muslim airplane bombers so blame them instead of everyone else you stupid person.

The easiest thing in the world and they can’t get it.

I listened to a few minutes of the Cruz-Sanders debate and it was a slaughter. I listened to a bit of the 9th Circuit arguments and it was way over my head. My conclusion is that President Trump and almost Attorney General Sessions need to hire Ted Cruz as Solicitor General on a part time basis (on retainer) IN HIS SPARE TIME to argue cases. The DOJ lawyers are simply awful. Local yokel civil and criminal trial shysters make them look like tongue tied goons. Does DC have no silver tongued devils? We have a surplus and could lend them some. They work cheap! And after Granny Warren of Harvard made an ass of herself the Ivies look worse everyday.

Lawmakers face rising anger at town halls

Republican lawmakers hoping for a break from the politically charged atmosphere in Washington, D.C., have instead been met with protests at home.

From California to Florida, liberal activists are bringing the fight to the doorsteps of GOP lawmakers, marching on the streets of their hometowns and making legislators’ lives miserable as they attend meetings and town halls with constituents.

Yep. The gravy train. It is always about the money with Dems. Without tax payer money they are nothing. Remove the money, goodies that tax money pays for, tax financed sinecures, freebies, business loans and grants for their pet donors and they are nothing. Take away the refugee and migrant money spigot and they stop coming if they are expected to become self supporting in short order. Cut off the academic grants for stupidness and they go neutral or conservative. Why were the little Obama-ites crying after the election? No money coming on the horizon. They aren’t there for idealism or shits and grins. It is the money. And easy to no work.

Very few leap directly from Dem to Repub. It is a process of self examination which many cannot do. They are indies for a while to a long while. Dems will split between Bern’s and globalist zillionaires and only on the coasts and a few cities. I find Rahm Emanuel facing the fact of downward spiral of Chicago and as future Detroit in Illinois interesting. He sees the future of his city and his party and it is bad.
