Sunday Open Thread

Via Jazz Shaw:

President Donald Trump is asking Congress to look into whether the Obama administration abused its investigative powers during the 2016 election, White House press secretary Sean Spicer said in a statement Sunday.

“Reports concerning potentially politically motivated investigations immediately ahead of the 2016 election are very troubling,” Spicer said, posting the statement on Twitter. “President Donald J. Trump is requesting that as part of their investigation into Russian activity, the congressional intelligence committees exercise their oversight authority to determine whether executive branch investigative powers were abused in 2016.

“Neither the White House nor the President will comment further until such oversight is conducted,” he added.

Spicer did not provide further details on the President’s request of Congress.

I hope those rat bastards get exposed and locked up.

      However if the link is followed, the TMZ story is not critical but an explanation about riding in a car on the Sabbath.

    I was finishing up college, getting married, and having a baby during the Watergate years. My life moved at light speed compare to how slowly the whole fiasco moved. It took more than two years from the first revelations until Nixon resigned. While I’d like to see Obama drawn and quartered, my enthusiasm is tempered by the memory of how paralyzed the country was during the whole scandal. When Ford said, “Our long national nightmare is over”, the whole country breathed a sigh of relief. Trump has asked congress to investigate. It’s not known for moving quickly. As long as “Wiregate” is hanging around, Trump is going to be fighting on multiple battlefields, the left will keep screaming “Russia”, and every step of draining the swamp will be that much harder. I’d rather see a quick ostracism of Obama than him behind bars if it means Trump can get on with the business of running the country sooner. Shine floodlights on Obama. Make it impossible for him to anything that’s not out in the open at the very least until this whole thing is resolved. Don’t abdicate to congress totally.

    • SHV says:

      “Shine floodlights on Obama. Make it impossible for him to anything that’s not out in the open at the very least until this whole thing is resolved.”
      I think that is the strategy that Trump is using. The recent talk that Obama, Jarrett, et al are ready to take on Trump and the behavior of the Dems to kill Trump with a thousand cuts, convinced Trump that Obama wasn’t going to play by the old rules. After 6 weeks of bullshit, Trump went “all in” an showed that he is ready for a fight to the death with Obama. Obama is a pussy but I think it is too late for him to back out of the game that he started.

      • blowme0bama says:

        Depends on if he’s getting $ out of this. Obama is lazy as hell, a coward, and always takes the easy way out.

        • Constance says:

          I agree Obama is lazy as hell but he is the center of focus for a bunch of Democrat government grifters. I’m glad Trump finally threw down the gauntlet. Burn those democrat asses, and in the mean time push ahead with all your plans. Trump needs a secret office of Democrat destruction, since the Democrats seem to be self destructive the office doesn’t have to do much but publicize the Dem hypocrisy.

    • Jeffhas says:

      Let’s hope some good investigative journalism turns up absolute proof of the warrant request and result report.
      If the public sees Trumo was telling the truth, perhaps Obama can be ostracized… but I’m not counting on the mainstream media allowing anything to bubble up to the surface.

    • DeniseVB says:

      Clinton’s Impeachment was even a bigger time suck and slog. Funnily, I liked both Nixon and Clinton at the time and was rooting for them both. All these decades later, it finally comes out that the Woodward and Bernstein “source” against Nixon was a disgruntled Nixon insider who didn’t get appointed to his dream job.

      Ya, there’s truth in that.
      I remember reading a story where some fella complaining to a reporter that the gas provider in his area, I think it was during Katrina, just took to long to restore service.
      His complaint was he couldn’t heat up his food. Ya’ see, he had food but snowflake couldn’t heat it so he didn’t eat for a couple of days. Sheeees!
      Boy must have never eaten cold rations. Couldn’t start a fire?

      • We used to eat cold C-Rats we opened with a P-38 John Wayne. If you leave the lid partially attached you can bend it back and use it like a handle.

        • CiscoKid says:

          Ah, the P-38, and we’re not talking about the German 9mm pistol.
          A grunts best friend, besides his rifle.
          John Wayne, that’s what we called those crackers/biscuits. About 3 inches across and at least a half inch thick.
          John Wayne cookies.
          I’ve eaten MRE’s, but I much prefer the old C-rats.
          Ham & M’ fkrs, biggest lima beans I ever saw. Pound cake, yum.
          Coffee, on guard duty, just opened a packet and swallowed it with a gulp of water.
          We even had musket’s back then, LOL

      • elliesmom says:

        When we had a gas stove, I’d make sure there was stove top food in the house before a storm. Now everything is electric, including the pump on the well. So it’s cans of tuna fish and cheese. And as long as it’s not a hurricane, steaks for the grill. I’ll cook outside in a blizzard, though.

      • blowme0bama says:

        As a child during an ice storm, we’d sit a can of ravioli on top of the hurricane lamp’s globe. Worked.

    She said I mean it. I know better than to discuss.

      • elliesmom says:

        Oprah has tried so many weight loss programs and ended up heavier than when she started, she doesn’t have a lot of credibility with the perpetually dieting crowd. Every one she tries is the “best one ever”. My BFF has followed her down just about every path. When she tried the medically supervised fasting program, she made everyone around her miserable all the time she did it. Two years later she weighed 45 lbs more than when she started, but she was a size 6 for her daughter’s wedding. If a personal chef and a trainer can’t get the weight off Oprah and keep it off, Weight Watchers isn’t going to do it. Most people eventually get tired of counting the points they eat every day, but since she has money invested in WW, there may be more incentive to keep the weight off. About the only thing she hasn’t tried is gastric bypass.

    Schumer’s plan to stop the wall

    Chuck Schumer has concluded that denying President Trump his wall is perhaps the surest major defeat Democrats can hand the President in his first year.

    • Constance says:

      You know what?! If Schumer and company manage to block money for the wall I think it should be set up as a volunteer effort. Find ways for citizens to donate. Donate money, donate time and build it anyway hopefully with the most drama possible. Grandmas carrying bricks to the site would make a good picture, a regular national effort! You know kind of how people donate time to archeological digs.

    • Jadzia says:

      So the community and/or families didn’t maintain their graveyard. I’m sure it’s still Trump’s fault, somehow. if Ivanka really took her Jewish faith seriously, she would’ve been out tending those graves, I tell ya.

  17. lyn says:

    Wikileaks published “highly classified documents showing that the US National Security Agency bugged a private climate change strategy meeting; between UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon and German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Berlin.”

    According to Wikileaks, Obama’s administration also:
    •singled out the Chief of Staff of UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) for long term interception targetting his Swiss phone;
    •singled out the Director of the Rules Division of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Johann Human, and targetted his Swiss phone for long term interception;
    •stole sensitive Italian diplomatic cables detailing how Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu implored Italy’s Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi to help patch up his relationship with US President Barack Obama, who was refusing to talk to Netanyahu;
    •intercepted top EU and Japanese trade ministers discussing their secret strategy and red lines to stop the US “extort[ing]” them at the WTO Doha arounds (the talks subsequently collapsed);
    •explicitly targeted five other top EU economic officials for long term interception, including their French, Austrian and Belgium phone numbers;
    •explicitly targeted the phones of Italy’s ambassador to NATO and other top Italian officials for long term interception;
    •and intercepted details of a critical private meeting between then French president Nicolas Sarkozy, Merkel and Berlusconi, where the latter was told the Italian banking system was ready to “pop like a cork”.

      And Trump won anyway AND his approval numbers keep going up the more they leak. Trump is now their victim of criminal activity.

  20. swanspirit says:

    And here is a very large part of the problems with progs. They still feel so superior, even after such catastrophic election losses; that they think they know what Trump supporters think.

    NYT Bestselling author, friend of the blog, husband of the awesome Mallory, my former neighbor, and overall good guy Wiley Cash has a message on the facebook thing:

    Here’s how you’re probably feeling if you voted for this president:

    You leased a brand new American-made Cadillac on Nov. 8. So what if it’s a gaudy gold with gold rims, gold trim, gold leather interior with gold flakes in the wood grain. Who cares? It’s big and powerful and the engine is really loud.

    In December a neighbor comes over and points out that your rims are made of plastic. You didn’t realize it until now, but so what? That guy’s just jealous. This is still a really nice car. You know a few Obama voters with plastic rims, so they’re no better than you. And then you discover that the leather is actually pleather, but you decide not to tell anyone.

    On January 20 you detail the Cadillac and drive it through town, revving the engine and blaring the radio: Toby Keith, Three Doors Down. It’s the proudest day of your life. That night you lay in bed and hope you made the right decision. But this car speaks to the American experience, right? It’s the car of middle America. This car is all about the people.

    By the middle of the following week you accidentally scratch the wood grain on the interior and discover that it’s made of plastic too. Those gold flakes are actually foil. You take it back to the dealership and rant and rave about how you paid too steep a price for your lease, but you’re stuck with it for four years. You can’t get your money back unless you take the dealership to court for selling you an inferior product, and there’s no way you’re going to court: Court is for liberal snowflakes.

    • lyn says:

      They are obsessed with feeling superior. Ask me if I care about Hillary voters–even if she had won. It’s a sickness.

    • The comments are even worse.

      • swanspirit says:

        They always are, over there at buffoon juice. They are a regular nest of vipers over there.

        • Lulu says:

          The idea of their superiority is central to their sense of well being. Their economic, social, demographic conditions say differently but the self comfort rolls on. If they didn’t do this, and have their self support group they would just be a bunch of schmucks like everyone else. It is like having the nicest truck at the trailer park or the biggest rims in the ghetto. Insecure people must have something to feel superior about that is usually unquantifiable like have the best looking children or the richest grandpa.

    Whodathunk? Dem’s doing what they do best, taxing people out of jobs.
    “With sales slumping because of the new Philadelphia sweetened beverage tax, Pepsi said Wednesday that it will lay off 80 to 100 workers at three distribution plants that serve the city.

    The company, which employs 423 people in the city, sent out notices Wednesday and said the layoffs would be spread over the next few months. The layoffs come in response to the beverage tax, which has cut sales by 40 percent in the city, PepsiCo Inc. spokesman Dave DeCecco said.

    “Unfortunately, after careful consideration of the economic realities created by the recently enacted beverage tax, we have been forced to give notice that we intend to eliminate 80 to 100 positions, including frontline and supervisory roles,” DeCecco said.”
    Lifted from HotAir.

    This poor, beautiful girl. I want to live in a world where we give a f*ck about HER life. And that of her murderer’s previous victim:

    • Lulu says:

      Collateral damage and just one of those things. Her own parents seem to be ok with it since they are professional globalist functionaries. They chose their paycheck and social hierarchy position over their daughter because they are monsters. It reminds me of the Democrats gasping when President Trump announced the program to aid victims of illegal alien violent crime from money that has been used to fund illegals legal and lobbying scams. They are world leaders instead of representatives of the US population goddamnit and don’t you peons forget it. The general population is supposed to lay down and take it and get used to it because cheap labor is so beneficial to Dems and GOPe constituencies.

      • Jadzia says:

        The thing about the parents is horrifying. I would think that losing one’s beautiful young daughter would prompt some self-reflection, but apparently not.

      They seem very bothered that President Trump won’t stay in government buildings 24/7 and runs off and it is NOT on their schedule. He keeps flying off to his own digs at Mar-A-Lago and having MEETINGS!. They make it sound like it because it is such a luxurious building but it is because they have trouble bugging it and staffing it with THEIR flunkies. The staff at Mar-A-Lago is on Trump’s payroll not the professional government. The public has no problem with a president spending the weekend at his own f’ing house for R and R.
