    Tell me about your Mom.

I had a great couple of days with my Daughter-dearest and my grandaughter in NYC a couple of weeks ago. I told dd her brother asked me for advice when his twingirlies turned 14 in Jan. Told him to to ask your sister, she’s the expert on everything I did wrong. KTY laughed and laughed, “you mean (6 yo) Kacey’s going to hate me!!!!1!!” Me: Yes she is. ❤ We then spent a small fortune at the Astor Place Theater of Blue Man Group and got sprayed with goop while wearing funny headbands. You had to be there 😉

Sounds like fun to me and what a wonderful memory for your daughter and granddaughter!

Tell me about your mom- Before the US had even entered WWII, my dad enlisted in the army, and my mom in the USO. It was Valentine’s Day in Boston, and my mom was scheduled to be a hostess at a USO dance at the armory in Boston. She decided to dress up as a valentine so she wore a white and red polka dot sundress and a pair of red sandals with cardboard soles because she had used up all of her ration stamps for leather shoes. While she was dancing the night away, a major blizzard hit Boston, leaving her stranded in a snowbank in a summer dress and shoes that were disintegrating from too much dancing and wet snow.
My dad was a southern boy who was on duty that night and having a blast driving around in a snowplow. He saw the living valentine stuck in the snow and scooped her up and delivered her home to her parents in the snowplow, and they invited him to come back to Sunday dinner. When he was discharged at Fort Dix after returning from Germany at the end of the end of the war, he headed north instead of south and married his valentine.
Together they raised 3 boys who were orphaned, and two kids they produced themselves. He provided the guidance and the common sense gene, and she her sense of fun. We never went hungry, and we always knew we were loved.
When my mom died in the fall of 1997, a light went off in my dad’s life. When he was dying a year later, he asked for permission to let go. What if there was snow in heaven, and she needed him again? Since I was the child who got the common sense gene, I knew better than to argue with him.
My mom and I didn’t always see eye to eye on stuff. There were many times when I found myself in the caretaker role even when I was very young, but she made me laugh at adversity, and “loosen up, love” because Life is short. She always wanted the prom queen and got the valedictorian. I wasn’t forgiven until I gave her the first grandchild. 🙂 She was born to be a grandmother. I try very hard to bring some of her into the way I am with my grandkids. She didn’t live long enough to meet her great grandchildren, but they would have adored her.

This is some of what I wrote 10 years ago, after Mom passed away from ovarian cancer:

She wore a burgundy velvet newsboy’s cap to chemo.
All of her childhood pictures show her scowling.
Words were her weapons, and she could draw blood with them.
She worked at a job she hated for 30 years to make sure I was taken care of.
When she was down to 85 lbs and having kidney failure, she didn’t want to give up fighting, and she fought as long as she could.

      • DeniseVB says:

❤ I know my mom is pouring her a martini in heaven right now, even if she wasn't a drinker.

      • lateblum says:

You inherited her gift of words.
        Thoughtful, evocative, even seductive.
i hope your Mother’s Day provides you good thoughts of your mother.

        • Miranda says:

Thanks. Mother’s day isn’t that hard. I gave presents to her and my grandmothers but we didn’t make a big deal out of it. We all lived in the same area, so I saw them all the time.

  5. lyn says:

My mother was an only child, so she had no idea how to deal with her two girls and a boy. She did her best. My last great memory of her is when she and I laughed and giggled, because we discovered that we nibbled on leftover dessert the same way.

This little 4″x4″ oil (in progress) is from my favorite photo of her from 1962. She holds Duchess and looks so proud. (I cut my sister and I out of the photo.)

Duchess was 15 when Mom and I took her to the vet to be put to sleep. Mom and I cried, and she was shocked that I was crying. I was the most sensitive child of the bunch, and that surprised me.

    • Two Fresno State students are suing a professor for erasing anti-abortion messages they wrote in sidewalk chalk on campus earlier this month, claiming their free speech rights were violated.

Video footage shows Greg Thatcher, a professor of public health, scrubbing out messages like “women need love, not abortion” with his shoe and instructing other students to do the same. Thatcher claimed that the messages would only be allowed in a designated “free speech area” on campus, and says in the video that “college campuses are not free speech areas.”

However, Fresno State no longer has such a free speech zone, and an official said in a statement Thursday that “our entire campus is open and supports freedom of expression.”

  7. mothy67 says:

Waiting for mommie dearest present to arrive. I got her mug that reads Trumpled with Donald stepping on cankles, a bottle of tequila, triple sec, margarita mix and the Ninja Coffee bar.
I got it from Walmart.com or maybe Target. She hates the pods(expense) and will never buy any maker over 25. I figured what the hell. I like iced coffee.
My mom, and I say this with love is a bitch. I keep thinking soon I’ll move on. I need to be here financially for kid. Jesus the two of them fight. I play referee. I’m always saying listen to your selves. They adore each other, but they fight all the time.
My mom called me when kid took phone into pool to tattle on her (Shay had already called me in tears to confess. I said its a phone. You are on vacation. Let it go)
My mom called to tell her on her. I said I am aware. She wanted to know if I was going to get mad. I said why its done. My fault for giving a 10 year old an expensive phone. Really not her fault the case was 100 and its supposed to be waterproof. It says it in big letters. If I was 10 i’d take it in the pool too.
I do love my mom. Wouldn’t have her any other way.

    • votermom says:

That coffee maker looks amazing! ❤

      • mothy67 says:

It’s here. I set it up. Will have to wait and see how it tastes. The milk frother is like a french press. You heat the milk and then pump it. I might have gone with a nespresso had I seen it first. I only paid 99. Full price it was close to 200. I like the water on the side. My mom uses tap which I find undrinkable so it may not make much of a difference. I wanted to buy her something she wouldn’t buy. She loves coffee. I give her gift cards and she spends them on dork. They love casino but I got my gambling honestly from my dad. He loves to play but when he loses he is devastated. His breathing not worth it. So I thought coffee and margaritas. Kid is into coffee. Starbucks. Not me. Her friends parents took her. Wouldn’t you ask first? Now she is always asking for a mocha. I can make a decaf one at home.

        • votermom says:

If you can switch kid to home made mochas you’ll save a ton of money!

          • mothy67 says:

I can splurge on certain things. $6 dollar cups of coffee for a ten year old is not one of them. She gets them its not from me.
It is funny what we spend money on. I like Stella Artois. It can be up to 7 a pint. I go out I know what it costs. You are lying suggesting I have carried a flask and done shots in the bathroom. That would be horrible
7 a beer, but I fume when a gallon of OJ goes up 50 cents. Same with milk. 12 martini is okay but 6 for a gallon of milk.

Twitter says this is hate speech:

    • 1539days says:

Also okay for a male to stand in a bathroom looking at girls if he says he identifies as a woman.

    • mothy67 says:

There is no such thing as hate speech. Left has made it up.
Where in the canon of US law is there a mention of hate speech
I can say Amy Schumer looks like that creature found in Jakarta.
Isn’t the koran hate speech if we are going to make up precedent?
Who will define hate speech. I do not like muslims. I think its barbarism. Will twitter ban me? Mosques speak of infidels and people openly express adherence to sharia. How many rap songs express a disdain for women.
Why aren’t madonna and judd haters.
I very likely would avoid ever being rude to a trans. Person at my local bar is. We don’t engage but I have never been rude. I think she’s a decent person from what I know. Have no idea what restroom she uses. It’s a bar I’m not watching to see what loo someone tinkles in. I do not want the government telling me how to address anybody. I defer with she because its an adult establishment. New York they fine you if you do not used preferred pronoun. I would call everyone asshole.

Happy Mother’s Weekend to all you Moms!!!

  11. mothy67 says:

I was looking at Liberty U tuition. Assuming I read it correctly it is around 33k all inclusive a year. Pitt is around 36 for just tuition. Room and Board can be another 11k.
My younger brother is preparing for his daughter to go away. She has a 4.5 with AP and college classes and she’s a junior. She tanked her SATs . I had implored him to have her take at least one prep class. He said she did. She took an online one. I tried to be delicate. She attends a yuuuge school. Its economically very blended. The standards have slipped. A 4.5 shouldn’t be happening. Not with that load at 17. A 3.5 with a killer SAT score would have been better. This was her first major disappointment in life. She had dreams of great schools. My brother would not listen to me. Only so much I could say. Please I had an interview with admissions at Carnegie Mellon. I asked what are you looking for in prospective students. He rattled off a bunch of things. End of our meeting he asked when will your daughter by applying. Forget now but she was pre school or kindergarten. He laughed. Years I told my bro she has to do volunteer work and needs an interesting habit. Archery is enough. He wouldn’t listen.
Kid is smart. School did a disservice by giving away A’s. SAT’s brought it home.
She @ 17 aspires to be a doctor. He is looking at the best schools she can get into. Reality is she might score a partial scholarship at a small state school. Kick ass and continue post grad without a ton of debt. He asked me about Purdue. I said its out of state and her score is not much. Two years at a small school might allow her to transfer, but that involves cost.
Where is the guidance counselor? Isn’t that their job? I just know he’s going to get in over his head. She can and should go away to a reasonably cost school. Do well go on to post or not. Absolutely insane the way they are trying to budget. The money is not there.
I don’t get the avoidance of reality. I save as much as I can. My dream school is Purdue for brat. She has been walking dogs on Sundays at the pound for years. I am stupid but the Local TV hosts invite her to studio. They also walk dogs.
If I could play any role it would be Iago. She may decide to forgo college, but I am going to make sure that I pave the way if she decides. My little throw away.
I kinda think I deserve mothers and fathers day. Lord knows neither of those piss ants were around.

    • DandyTIger says:

Good thinking. State school first and big name for grad or 1/2 way through is a good way to cut costs. Liberty is right down the road from me. Good school. Good aviation school if there is interest in being a airline pilot. UVA or VA Tech are really good. UVA is usually ranked #2 under Berkeley for best public school. Better because not Berkeley. 🙂

      • DandyTIger says:

Probably best school in country if flying (in or out of the atmosphere) is an interest is Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Florida.

        • mothy67 says:

I love Purdue. I was a skinny queer kid that had open heart surgeries raised hard core Catholic that grew up dirt poor and out of said poverty went to three high schools.
I never had any friends. Didn’t go away to college I ran away to college.
I had more than a lion’s share of shame. Gay was not something you talked about in 1985. I wore a yellow walkman to sleep chanting I am a heterosexual male.
I had moved so many times. I never got to bond. I went to six schools and lived in at least 15 homes.
Purdue was amazing. I had never had friends. We sat up all night in common room talking. We stole trays from cafeteria to go sled riding. Rushed frats. Drove to Florida to see Haley’s Comet. I bet everyone knew I was gay. I couldn’t accept it. I transferred to Temple in Philadelphia to avoid losing best year of my life. I was so young and AIDS was scary. I ran.
My kid, who is not my kid, might not want something like I had freshman year, but I’ll do my best to provide a chance.
College life on a yuuuuge campus. Living that total experience. There is nothing around you but academia. You are at school.
Temple was so different. So much anger. The city becomes the campus. Philly is not bucolic. It’s angry. 30 years on most of my friends went to Penn or Drexel. There is no campus life. So funny we had an apartment at 1526 Spruce St. The rent was dirt cheap because the city was building what is now an arts center. We got month to month. Cheap. One day we all go out after work I said to pretty Asian looking girl. Fuck a cab I have a sofa bed. She just moved in. Marc Mezvinsky’s sister in law. 1526 Spruce was like a few blocks from city hall and one block off Broad. Many times I hosted bands crashing on the floor. So many drugs. I have done lots of drugs but it was never a lifestyle.
I wish I’d stayed at Purdue. Spend four years away from blight. There is nothing wrong with being young and enjoying life.
College libs seem to thrive on unhappiness. You are away at college. You have won the lottery. Please if you feel fit give back, but don’t act like America sucks if you get to sit in a lecture hall subsidized by taxpayers and moan. Trigglypuff hasn’t been a student in years.

        • DeniseVB says:

For years, my dh ordered fireworks from Phantom and shot them off our pier on a “special” launching pad. One unfortunate year, he did take out a neighbors deck with a rogue rocket that decided to twizzle instead of sizzle out over the lake. That pretty much ended our 4th of July parties. Well, that and a party attendee who claimed hearing loss as a result of our “illegal” fireworks. Pesky Virginia laws.

        11. Spend 10 minutes inserting cargo into nose of rocket.
        12. Insert new rocket engine.

At the 1:29:24 mark the camera comes back into focus, is pointed at the stage but shows a empty foreground and then immediately goes back to a tight shot of Trump.
The size of the crowd is never shown.

I think she’s a cunt, but I would never hurt her. I know I have already caused her so much pain. Hiding being gay was more about my parents than me. .
