Sure Happy It’s Thursday Open Thread

I’m DMD today.

I don’t care what the calendar says, it feels like Summer. We got a heatwave coming this weekend. 100+ during the day, mid-70’s at night.

Kliwn did you ever check out Daryl’s House via youtube? I promise lots of good music, check out the O’Jays first but there are a lot of good episodes.

Geez, I’m out of the country for a couple of weeks and everything goes crazy: Islamic terror attacks in London and another American Civil War gets going when a crazed prog shoots up a congressional baseball practice. (WTF? Baseball? With Congresscritters?) And then the deep state is set to investigate Trump for obstruction of justice. At least there’s the changeless certainty that ancient music videos will be featured at TCH.

Isn’t it great to be able to count on at least ONE good thing?

I once dated a guy with a very serious family; my relationship with his dad was tepid at best. What really broke the ice between us was our mutual love of ABBA. Never expected that from him, since he was so tight-jawed.

          Sweet story.

        • John Denney says:

I used to bring my guitar to the home of a family from India, and play and sing three part harmony pop American songs with the Mom and her beautiful young niece, who was in the U.S. studying to be a lawyer.
One evening the niece’s parents were visiting from India, and sat sternly watching us, dressed in their flowing native robes, barefoot, the wife with the dot on her forehead and lots of jewelry.
At one point I asked them what style of music they like, at which the wife beamed and said, “We like Abba.”

I was gonna do To Sir with Love but this seems bad. Not insult just a chuckle.

  4. lyn says:

Yeah, correct the lie after the monster was fed:

The New York Times corrected an editorial on the GOP baseball shooting Thursday that baselessly accused Sarah Palin of inciting the 2011 shooting of Gabby Giffords.

“An earlier version of this editorial incorrectly stated that a link existed between political incitement and the 2011 shooting of Representative Gabby Giffords,” the correction reads. “In fact, no such link was established.”

    This is Stalinesque:

Fred Warmbier also dismissed whatever efforts were made on behalf of his 22-year-old son Otto by the Obama administration, which asked the family to keep a low profile when news of Otto’s arrest became public.

“The results speak for themselves,” he said in a news conference, adding that President Trump, by contrast, reached out to him personally.

“Last evening, we received a very nice phone call from Pres. Trump, who told us that Sec. of State Tillerson worked hard to bring Otto home. We are extremely grateful for their efforts and concern,” he said.

Note that Obama’s demand that the family keep quiet about this did not serve the family’s interests, but it did serve Obama’s.

Obama’s tenure was marked by downplaying foreign policy crises that he didn’t give a fuck about. OPM hack? Downplayed it, got media to do the same. Obama’s theory of foreign policy crises was that it’s not a crisis if the public doesn’t even know about it.

And thus his demand to the family that they not even tie yellow ribbons around trees to call attention to their son’s plight.

Obama was content to leave the kid in North Korea, and it would have been politically troublesome for him had the story become a front page story, so he and his media friends made sure no one even knew about this.

“Do you believe you are under investigation ”
    Stinking rotten pieces of 💩

    • DeniseVB says:

Good grief the press are morons. At any press conference, they certainly ruined the Alexandria pressers yesterday shrieking out stupid Q’s. I learned nothing.

  12. mothy67 says:

Another intense storm today. Dairy Queen down the road got hit twice yesterday with lightning the second hit locked everyone inside.

    • 49erDweet says:

Think there’s a message there somewhere?

    • lateblum says:

We had some pretty big storms here, ourselves. In the neighborhood where we used to live, huuuge trees were uprooted and cars and houses were seriously damaged by falling trees and debris. I noticed the town where Cynic lives was badly hit with storms, as well.

  13. Look who got Twitchied!

    And now for something different.
And I believe the driver of the van may have a CCW.
Looks like he was going to draw a weapon, but wisely, very wisely didn’t when police approached the fleeing vehicle.
    Either way, nice work.

I just hear that Putin is trolling Comey. Offered him asylum if he’s worried about his relationship with Trump. It’s like the entire world is poking at the (D)-ihadis 🤣

    • mcnorman says:

That Putin is a real jokester.

      • lateblum says:

        Interesting you should say that.
Did you know about the rumors that Putin is not really Putin?
I have an acquaintance who is from Ukraine. today, she said that there have been stories for years that the person we all see is not the real thing. she said that the real Putin was fluent in German. The current version, not only cannot speak German, he needs an interpreter when others are speaking. She also said that she knows someone in Ukraine who was told that this guy (whom we know as Putin) has had multiple plastic surgeries and is one of several Putin look-alikes.
When we were talking, I told her that I have 3 friends from the 1980’s who no longer speak to me. Not because I voted for Trump, but because I loathed HRC so much, that I refused to even consider voting for her. They don’t know who I voted for because they stopped speaking to me before the election in November. She then said that just like here, families and friendships in Russia and in Ukraine have broken up over politics. She owns her own business here and doesn’t talk politics at all in her shop. Still.

        • mcnorman says:

I know that they say he has more than one body double. KGB education perhaps? I also assume he had a food taster as well. It wouldn’t be unreasonable to have surgery to correct close up flaws.

          • lateblum says:

Agreed abt body doubles. My friend said that was common knowledge. She is talking about the person who is being presented as the “real” Putin.
            Who knows…… .

The boys are into horror. They are just kids. They can be together from 12 to 8 at pool. We get to leave them. Today a storm moved in. She went to the office. They call. It’s voluntary but pup cannot leave without some one signed in. They are tweens bored facechat is how they engage. I deal with cruds all the time. I now have to deal with Michael Myers, Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees, Candyman, Joy Bahar, Cujo, Cher, Jaws, lesbians on cable news, Pennywise, Anderson Cooper, Hannibal Lector, Leatherface (a ka Pelosi),
