I hate to brag, no I don’t….Sly and his family were playing in Norfolk on the same hot summer weekend of our 1969 wedding, we all left on the same flight to Miami that night. I had no clue who that band was when they boarded our flight, I thought for sure we’d be hijacked to Cuba. Thank goodness my family was at the airport to take photos of them and not us, 10 days later I was like WUT? Well, that was long before cell phones and stuff.

  1. Via Don Surber:

Graham entertained the crowd with a story about an early-morning phone call with Trump during which the President relayed a conversation he’d had with Defense Secretary James Mattis.
“We’re asking permission to send 50 of our soldiers into a village outside Raqqa,” Mattis told Trump, according to Graham. “Why are you calling me?” Trump replied. “I don’t know where this village is at.” Mattis told him, “Well, that’s what we’ve done for the last 8 years.”
Trump, Graham said, then asked, “Who’s asking to go into that village?” Mattis told him, “A major, first in his class at West Point.”
“Why do you think I know more about that than he does?” Graham said Trump asked. “And then he hung up.”

A few years ago I had a migraine headache. It had been so long since I had had one, I no longer had any prescription meds so I took 2 Advil and then 4 hours later two more. I ended up in the ER with a massive nose bleed. When they checked my blood pressure, it was over 200. My doctor treated the bleed and started me on high blood pressure meds. My pressure went down to the 140 range and stayed there. After a year or so of trying different meds and it never going lower than that, my hypertension specialist decided the really high spike was probably a panic attack over the headache and the nosebleed, and 140/80 is probably my “normal” level. She took me off the meds, and nothing happened. She suggested I pass on ibuprofen as a pain killer for life. Since I’ve lost weight, my BP is down to 130/80 un-medicated. This is anecdote, not data, but your link doesn’t surprise.

    • I take lisinopril 2x daily.

      • votermom says:

high fat low carb, klown, or better yet, carnivore

      • elliesmom says:

Lisinopril did nothing for me except give me a nasty cough and make my feet swell. When I complained about it, my PCP told me they were side effects I could live with. I requested a referral to a specialist. The specialist told me Lisinopril is the first choice for most doctors because it sometimes works and it’s cheap. She found something else that had no side effects for me, but the company stopped producing it. That’s when she decided to see what would happen if I just stopped taking it. She’s also the “architect’ of my weight-loss plan. And the doctor who said the salt/blood pressure connection was bunk, and eggs are good for you. I’d drive back to MA to see her, but I no longer qualify for a BP specialist.

        • lateblum says:

Have you ever taken Amlodipine? I’ve been taking it for years and my cough has gone from bad to worse and my feet swell like crazy. So instead of taking me off the meds, she prescribed those god-awful compression stockings (that I cannot wear during the hot summers, and cannot pull on and off since my back surgery, anyway).
When I see her this week, I’m going to discuss titrating the bp meds. My bp just never seems to get to “normal” despite taking these meds religiously. Plus, my cough has never left except for the weeks immediately following my surgery last hear.
Perhaps weight watchers will be the answer to these issues.

          • votermom says:

Noo not weight watchers. Do high fat low carb or join me in going carnivore.
Eat as much meat as you want.

As you can see, for women the story is very straightforward indeed. The higher the cholesterol level, the lower the risk of overall mortality. With regard to heart disease alone, the highest risk is at the lowest cholesterol level. For men there is more of a U shaped curve, but overall mortality is highest at the lowest cholesterol level.

This was a ten year study done in Norway, looking at fifty thousand people – with no pre-existing heart disease. So what we have here is five hundred and ten thousand years of observational data.

My doctor suggested “the half hour diet” to me. Take a small to medium-sized dinner plate and fill it with a balanced selection. She suggested using the sectioned paper plates until I got the hang of it. Meat and carbs in the smaller sections and veggies in the bigger one, but you can have something like a chunk of lasagna, too. Anything you like, and you can fill up the plate, but no “going over”. There are no “bad” foods. Eat it slowly and enjoy every guilt-free bite. Then push yourself away and wait a half hour. No seconds before that. After a half hour, you’ll most likely not be interested in more food because your brain has received the message you’re full. If you get hungry between meals (not bored or upset), you can have a snack, but not right out of the package. It has to go into a bowl or on a plate, and the same half-hour rule applies. Then you add a half hour of pleasant exercise to your day 5 days a week. Take a walk, go for a bike ride, play some tennis or take a swim, go to aerobics. Something that gives you pleasure so you look forward to doing it.
At first nothing happened on the scales, but then the weight started coming off slowly. Two pounds one week, but maybe nothing the next. But the scale never crept back up. There are no forbidden foods. You’re free to satisfy cravings. No points to count. No way to “go off your diet” and feel guilty. You can dine out. I’m at 45 pounds gone. I have no “goal weight”. When my body reaches the place where it says this is the ‘right weight’, i’ll hit a plateau and stay there. My blood pressure un-medicated is in the 130-135/80 range, which is fine for a 66 year old woman. It’s been a little over a year, and I’m down 3 dress sizes. The best part is I don’t feel deprived at all, and the only sacrifice has been some clothes I really liked.

An update on the Amazon/post office squabble over delivering my range hood. Yesterday Amazon contacted the Post Office to request home delivery of the hood. I got an email from the general post office site saying the hood would be delivered today. I decided to be nice, and I left a note on my mailbox telling the delivery person it was OK to leave it at the box. No need for her to walk up the hill with it. But she didn’t have my package, and when I started down the driveway to talk to her, she drove off. Amazon is cancelling the order and refunding my money. I’ve ordered the hood from Home Depot instead because they use UPS. Tomorrow the post office is supposed to deliver shelving. We’ll see. The bathroom tile is coming FEDEX. Their delivery guy puts things inside the garage for me. He and Ellie are buddies.

    • votermom says:

      Are you updating your kitchen?

      • elliesmom says:

We replaced the stove and the fridge. The new stove needs a back splash, and since we have to take down the hood to do the tile, we’re putting up one that matches the stove. Swapping out the sink for a bigger one. I’d like to do the floor, too, but making the bathroom handicapped for Elliesdad comes first. That’s the bigger project. We pulling out the bathtub and putting in a walk-in shower. That involves stealing some space from the guest room. After completely gutting the old house, I vowed I’d never do a reno again. I am suffering from some PTSD. lol

Sitting here listening to Chicago Police dispatch…better than anything on TV. Body count as of 8:00 CDT. 9 killed 27 wounded. A lot of “domestics”, also.

Some man was just walking into the emergency room at Mt Sinai Hospital in Chicago, and was shot as he was entering. They have closed down the ER in order “to protect people”!!

The other thing about main stream media and my President.
They are all so uber edumacated and yet they think they can defeat him conventionally. Have none read Sun Tzu. His first book was The Art of the Deal. Today the battlefield is the boardroom or ballot box. Wars are still waged but the spoils are different. He takes them down one at a time.
Step back for a second and look what has become of those that opposed him. Megyn Kelly is laughable. 20 million and a repeat of America’s Funniest Home Videos beats her. CNN once the most trusted name in news he has turned into a punchline. The august members of congress have been painted as doddering old fools. The clinton’s and bushes could have retired with dignity, instead they doubled down against him tarnishing themselves. Chelsea tweets are just sad. If you remove your own bias and view her bromides as if they were Le Pen’s kid’s. They would seem so sad. Maybe it gives some succor to the die hards, but I think the resistance empowers Trump. They become more desperate with each action. It comes through. When Coumo said he can read the emails but we can’t I knew people that didn’t go to college and don’t as a rule follow politics that got pissed off. Blue collar and no collar people are not stupid. Instructions from a talking tv head hold no sway.
My life has been a tapestry of rich…… oops wait that’s a pop song. Kick ass album. Kid starts middle school in 6 weeks. My small small suburban town has the other side of the tracks. There will be 33 kids in her class not born here. 5 different languages. Please progressive tell me again how 33 non English students will not effect a class of 93. I am looking at private school. I can get her into Central Catholic sister school but its a day school. I do not know how to drive. If I walk 15 minutes I can see the Cathedral of Learning (a U of Pitt landmark) but it would be over an hour on two busses to get her there. Winter’s would be imposssible. I am looking at boarding school. That scares me. She is still my pup. I have already talked to a few people. I can get her in and can get her scholarships. She would be the poor kid. Do I want that for her. Let alone thinking what she may want. Thanks obama you flooded a small town with angry children. Your kids do not pay the price mine does. America’s history with racism has nothing to do with me or my family. Think about it what price are the descendants of plantation owners paying. They continued lives of opulence. My history is broke assed people. I nor my ancestors had nothing to do with slavery. Irish, English, French and German. Poor. The German is Jew.

I will say this again I am a gay man and LGBTQ has nothing to do with me. I do not align myself with anything about gender fluid or transgender. It is political and monetary. People are making money. Perhaps gay marriage dried up funds.
I am first and foremost an inappropriate asshole. I did not chose this. Believe it or not I suck because I am an idiot. My sexual preference is not relevant. I have been on this board for a long time. Have I ever beat an agenda? I understand some people do not agree. I fully respect a person saying I disagree with your life style ( my lifestyle is making eggo’s cutting them applying butter putting them in microwave to take chill off maple syrup) I am raising a kid. Money — I can not afford to go prancing around. The people on this board who are not homo friendly have been honest. Never rude.
I remember a few years back I expressed my honest opinion about same sex couples creating children. You cannot say, in my world, that gay is natural and then defy nature. Klown had my back. I was not insulting her or her child. If you want to argue homosexuality is natural. You cannot argue for fake births. How is it that the same people who argue for stop breeding make kids in a tube?
I have been with my monster for almost 11 years I did not fill out an application I was not ready to have a kid. I was just there. Mistake. Splendid mistake, but our years have nothing to do with anyone’s gay agenda. She was alone and I was an oddball who loved her. My pup is amazing. Gay great uncle is not what it is about. Fuck that. I will never not be afraid for her again. I am screwed. Grateful but I resent LGBTQ using my history. One super f a g tried to use me at City Council. I do not live in the city and my story is not gay propaganda. Babe broke her collarbone one summer many years ago. I was without a clue. I read aloud all Potter . Every fucking word of every book. Was just me and a kid. I did what I could. She was my responsibility. I adore my monster. She is my trust. I see government interference in schools like I see medicine. The government told my dad to die we said fuck that. I said fuck that. He is alive. My kid —- I read her math. They want to extinguish fire.
Everyone can fuck the fuck off twice. My dad is alive and doing well
My kid, thrown away I am in for everything.
    I am mad.

DNC worried about voters unregistering in Colorado

Top officials in the Democratic National Committee are worried about a sudden drop in voter registrations in Colorado, concerned that President Donald Trump’s new election commission is encouraging Democrats across the country to remove themselves from the electoral grid for fear of revealing personal information to the GOP leadership.

I am reading Smear by Sheryl Attkisson . It is worth reading. I remember when a lot of this was going on. If you look at the coverage of Trump today and read this book, you can see how it works. I is like a textbook on how to defeat an opponent . The only problem is that Trump hits back harder. That is something new to many of these people and many of the American people no longer buy the bs.

Trump to pull feds out of K-12 education

President Trump signed an executive order Wednesday to start pulling the federal government out of K-12 education, following through on a campaign promise to return school control to state and local officials.

The order, dubbed the “Education Federalism Executive Order,” will launch a 300-day review of Obama-era regulations and guidance for school districts and directs Education Secretary Betsy DeVos to modify or repeal measures she deems an overreach by the federal government.
