An important revelation to me that came out of this is that the Constitution forbids the Federal government owning land except for 10 square miles for the Capitol, and such land as is needed for military bases, for which the Feds have to pay the State that owns that land.
So, abolish the BLM and turn all the Fed lands over to the States in which it resides.

OMG what a game! Alabama, national champions! Overtime…..winning play, unreal. The true freshman quarterback UA put in during the 2nd half really stepped up. Imagine the pressure and that last play, diverted defense by looking right up until the moment he threw a looong pass left in the end zone to another true freshman…..wow!

We missed the entire 1st half due to doggie obedience school testing and graduation. Both puppies made it!! The feisty one that is usually a PITA was spot on, flawless she was….who knew she had it in her. She was the only dog with perfect scores. I was annoyed about the stupid ceremony……..just wanted to get home to the game. From what I’ve gathered Bama sucked the 1st half so in hindsight it worked out OK.

    ROLL TIDE!!!

Same here. I rarely saw her show, only watched sometimes on my off days. It has only been a day or so, maybe this will all die down. I posted a clip above of Mark Steyn on her speech, which I finally watched this morning. He is right, she took #MeToo and made it all about her, not the victims in Hollywood. And no calling out the culture in Hollywood. When you read twitter, it is 2008 all over again. They know nothing about her politics, they are just swooning over her speech, so she must be the next President.

        • lateblum says:

I’m not really a television watcher so I almost missed Oprah entirely when she had her show. Dd#1 used to tell me that she hijacked everyone’s issues on her shows and made each one her own. And when it was hers, it was always worse or bigger or better than the original (issue). So, this seems to be nothing new for Oprah.

      • blowme0bama says:

I’ve been disgusted with her for about as long as she’s had a show. She put so much garbage into peoples’ heads.

    • Mt.Laurel says:

I think her brothers are the ones that need to sit her down. She may be book bright and competent within her narrow scope, however, she is not judicious or insightful and is immature for her age. She also needs to remember neither she nor her mother are FLOTUS.

      • taw46 says:

The left doesn’t like her and never will. Every time she tweets something like this, twitter slams her over her father. Which is what happened with this tweet. You would think she would learn.

Using sex for power as Weinstein did is the worst, but Europeans are more kissy kissy than Americans are.

        • Jadzia says:

There’s a huge difference between the de rigueur cheek kissing here (which as a Midwesterner I hate hate hate, but when in Rome, so to speak) and the Weinstein treatment. I used to be all weirded out about how kissy-kissy the dean of my school is, but in reality he is perfectly proper, and in my experience, he’s more the norm than the Pepe LePew types.

        • Anthony says:

At some point there has to be an acknowledgment of what lies between the predatory behavior of some men like Weinstein and healthy pursuit of romantic interests. “Stealing a kiss” from someone you fancy is a hell of a lot different than raping someone.

I continue to agree with Deneuve’s assessment regardless of her political persuasion. While I agree with you about the difference in culture that you mention, I also believe that it’s not the only perspective to explain what has been (until recently) a purging of men who tell women how beautiful they look that day or who dare to steal a kiss from a potential sweetheart.

I’ve been groped by women who insist they can “change” me. Should I bring rape charges against them?

What about Susan Sarandon for president?, another reporter asked. “Actually, I think I’d be a better president than Oprah and Susan Sarandon, probably even President Trump. And I did run in 2012,” she said.

    Sweet story …

The secret love story of a holocaust prisoner known as the ‘Tattooist of Auschwitz’ and his wife – a woman he was forced to ink at the horrific concentration camp – has been revealed for the first time in a new book.

Lale Sokolov – born Ludwig ‘Lale’ Eisenberg to Jewish parents in Slovakia in 1916 – met his wife Gita Fuhrmannova when he tattooed the identification number ‘34902’ on her skin at Auschwitz in 1942.

While in the camp, they smuggled each other letters through an SS guard and had secret meetings by her block before they were separated upon release.

It wasn’t until weeks later that they were reunited in Bratislava, where they wed in 1945 before fleeing to Australia to live out the rest of their lives.

Didn’t read it, but I thought Nicole Kidman was good.

      • elliesmom says:

In the book, Kidman’s character is feisty. She subtly undermines her husband at every turn, especially by using his checkbook against him. Her friends miss the clues she’s being abused because she’s such a strong woman otherwise. The character as written in the screenplay and played by Kidman would have easily been outed by her friends, but then the relationships among all of the women were pretty superficial in the miniseries, too, and it’s what’s at the central core of the book.

None of the issues of the disparities in the relative incomes of the women were addressed, and that was an important issue. A lot of Kidman’s character’s standing in the group came from her ability to throw her money around, which we saw none of. A single mom who worked 20 hours a week as a bookkeeper moved in the same social circle as the wife of a multi-millionaire w/o explanation. That’s not how life works in Monterey. Liane Moriarity is a talented Australian writer, her setting for the book wasn’t California, and it mattered. But I’m not sure Reese and Kidman were all that interested in bringing her story to the screen. I think it was more about creating roles for themselves and promoting their causes. None of the humor from the book made it into the production, either, and that made it all the more cardboard. Moriarity is often very funny.

I don’t usually spend much time “reviewing” TV productions, but this was a seven hour commitment for me, and I feel cheated. lol

  25. elliesmom says:

Yesterday was an on again, off again snowy day here. The temps were above freezing so no accumulation on driveways or streets. My housekeeper came. She missed last week because of the snow so she had plenty to do. When she’s here, I try to stay out of her way. Yesterday I removed myself to the lady cave and binge watched Big Little Lies. I just have the last episode to watch, but I’ve read the book so I’m not worried about spoilers. I’ve seen where the show took several awards at the Golden Globes. Given the “women theme” of the awards, I’m not surprised, but I have to say it was about as badly cast as any series I’ve seen. You know how when you read a book, you can imagine an actor or actress playing one of the roles? Like Clark Gable was born to play Rhett Butler? Well, I’m familiar with all of the actresses in this series, and I don’t dislike any of them, but none of them fit the part. Reese Witherspoon bought the rights so I’m guessing she picked the role she wanted.

It was great! POTUS demonstrated that reports of his dementia are greatly exaggerated. He didn’t drool. Dems looked pissed that Trump controlled the narrative and seemed in his element working the art of the deal.

Wish he would have told Stony Hoyer, sitting to his left, to “go piss up a rope” when he told the standard Dem whopper that if POTUS would just agree to unconditional amnesty now, Dems would agree to work out a deal with Repubs on comprehensive immigration reform at some time in the future.
