How’s the Weather ?

I think they named this east coast storm Bombogenesis or something. Trash barrels are blowing around the neighborhood like tumbleweeds, thank goodness a car comes along every now and then “to stop” them 😀 Meanwhile it’s a great day to fly your horse kite !

Of course this is an Open Thread !

Doggeh thinks rainy and windy is a perfect day for a walk.
    Nope.

Btw Denise, I still have to set up a way to share pics with you guys. Sorry I’ve been so damn sleepy this week.

Jet lag? It’s takes me a week to recover from a train trip to DC 😉

We got 6″ of heavy, wet snow from some storm system not from that nor’easter. Since it never got close to freezing (35° snow is the WORST!) everything is melting fast.Sounds like an explosion as it falls off the roof. I had to clear a path in the backyard for the dog. Talk about heavy lifting.

My son drove down to Pittsburgh last night for a job interview today, and until they got 20 miles down 79, he said the driving was truly terrible. They were going 35 mph on the Thruway! I am shocked they didn’t close the Thruway down between Cleveland and Rochester last night.

We have snow in southern Oregon. I’m rewatching “Three Billboards in Ebbing, Missouri,” and I like it better.

    I love birds that talk.

Heh. I remember when Harsanyi was a radical leftist here in Boulder. As in a “pretty far to the left of Karl Marx” radical leftist (which was “middle of the road” hereabouts, I must admit).

Finally the Monterey Bay area has a little weather. It’s a once-a-year thing. Drizzle, lots of wind (?), and scudding clouds. Not enough weather to deter the yard guys, tho, so no big deal!

  8. Somebody says:

We are having lovely weather today, although a tad cool for my taste. Lows last night in the 40’s felt exceptionally cold this morning accompanied by a brisk wind. We had been having highs near 80 and lows in the mid 60’s. We dropped about 20 degrees, but the cooler weather will be great for getting some yard work done this weekend. We don’t have rain just clear and a touch windy.

We spent last weekend digging and digging, repairing leaking sprinkler pipes. We like to have never found one, under my from flower bed of course. OMG what a mess, looked like we were hunting for treasure or burying bodies. The jackass across the street sat in his driveway watching us for his entertainment pleasure. I guess the view on his TV via all the cameras he has pointed this way just wasn’t as good as the real thing.😡

Mitzi is doing OK. I didn’t get much sleep last night, I guess she thinks misery loves company. She woke me up multiple times laying on top of me whining. She never bothered DH, only me. Her side looks a little bit better overall, some of the swelling and redness subsiding. However the 2 really bad areas with nasty black skin and other yuckiness seemed to have gotten a little bigger overnight. So some good, some bad, but clearly the meds are kicking in at least a little.

TGIF!!! I am so ready for the weekend to start. I have had a rough week, maybe I’ll post later about giving my teen a driving lesson Wednesday. She’s afraid to drive, apparently for good reason. She was behind the wheel for all of 3 minutes and my van ended up on bushes in a raised center island, wheels off the ground OMFG!

    • 49erDweet says:

LMAO on the teenage driving. Had to test them for a few months when I was at DMV. Thrill a minute.

    • Anthony says:

Glad Mitzi is doing better. Re those bad areas – necrotic tissue probably. I know it’s hard but try to be positive. The redness subsiding is a good sign, the black skin is most likely necrosis finishing up its process. When does she have to go back to the vet?

      • Somebody says:

She returns on Monday and again on Thursday. If there are any changes or something concerns me about the area, I am to take pictures and send them to the doctor. I have two numbers to reach him. If she acts differently in any way I am to call immediately and most likely take her in.

This afternoon we have to wash her with a special shampoo. We have to do that every other day. In addition to that we have to clean the area with this squirt soap chlorohexidine or something like that twice a day. Once it’s dry we have an ointment to apply.

        • Anthony says:

Sounds like your vet is totally on it. Good. Keeping Mitzi (and you ❤) in my thoughts

          • Somebody says:

We changed vets when we got the puppies and we are very pleased. This particular vet and one other in this practice specialize in dachshunds or they did at an earlier time in their careers before moving here I should say.

          • DeniseVB says:

Glad your furgirl is doing better. ❤

          • Anthony says:

Good vets are hard to find. Yours sounds very attentive. Is there something non toxic you can treat them with that will keep spiders and other critters away from them? I have a client in San Antonio whose dog got stung by a scorpion. Woofer stays indoors now

        • Underwhelmed says:

Is there any way you can source some high potency manuka honey? It’s not cheap, but it does a brilliant job of topical healing.

          • Somebody says:

I have some and I was thinking about using it. I also have a activated charcoal and healing clay, as well as a variety of essential oils. I would just like to check with the vet first.

I should have asked yesterday, but when they brought her back in the exam room after shaving her side I was gobsmacked. I plan to ask more questions on Monday.

    • votermom says:

I’m glad Mitzi is starting to feel better.
Do you have spiders there? Scary.

Gotta find a driving school for KTY here too.

  9. DeniseVB says:

We hired a pro to teach my oldest son. After watching him with bumper cars, no way I was getting in the car with him. 😛

    • Somebody says:

I looked into that already. The best price I found was $640 for 12 hours, there were packages with as little as 4 hours instruction but the price per hour went up. That is really expensive. She is going to need far more than 12 hours…..OMG she sucks. She either steers or uses the pedals, not both at the same time….WTF? That’s how we ended up on the island. I told her it was safe to turn, she was rolling into the turn…..I said TURN, TURN, TURN the wheel……..a car was suddenly coming at us…….I said hit the gas. She let go of the wheel and hit the gas, OMFG! I should have just told her to stop at the stop sign and let me drive again. The drive down the abandoned road behind the golf maintenance shack should have clued me in. She would hit the gas, we would be headed to one side or the other, I’d tell her hands on the wheel. She’d take her foot off the gas and steer to correct course…….rinse repeat.

I solved the driving lesson dilemma in a different way. I told hubby it was his responsibility to teach her. I taught the older two, it’s his turn. He always brags about what a good driver he is anyway, so he can share those skills with his daughter. Way back when he was a truck driver for a couple of years, so I always hear about how he was a “professional” driver………hey, see I hired a “professional” too, LOL! There is an abandoned airport not far from us, used to be the Jacksonville airport. A small part of it has been turned into an industrial area, but most of the runways and taxiways are just empty. Hubby said he would take her over there this weekend. He’s hoping to teach her how to use the gas/brakes and steer at the same time, LOL! I suggested just going down to the clubhouse and taking her out in a golf cart, but he said he would prefer she get behind the wheel of a real vehicle…..his NOT mine, I already put my foot down there too!

We’ve been losing power off and on all morning. Heavy rain. The trash truck came and went. I went outside and brought the bins closer to the house and turned them upside down. Ellie hasn’t made any move to take a walk since she went out to pee and got drenched. I’m thinking about just going back to bed until it’s over.

    • foxyladi14 says:

Best place to be em. 😀

    • DeniseVB says:

You had trash pick up before noon???? Lucky! LOL, ours finally came at 3, we spent the whole day chasing and uprighting our bins and our neighbors’ at work. I’m exhausted. Kinda fun when a neighbor’s recycle barrel blew over and tons of beer cans and bottles started rolling down the 40mph wind gusting street. Oh my, got my workout in today chasing those buggars. Carrying beer bottles up the street as Officer Friendly drove by, priceless. He just waved 🙂

Rain mixed with snow, windy as hell (40mph), temp is 37 but wind chill makes the real feel 18. Opted out of physical therapy today – can’t believe they asked why. I told them I didn’t want my hair to frizz….

Making a big pot of sausage/potato soup and not leaving the house til it’s sunny again. Kitchen smells like heaven

  14. foxyladi14 says:

    Yum Anthony! 😀

It’s been raining since yesterday but now it’s snowing while raining.

    Puppeh thinks this is wonderful.

  16. Cisco says:

Just finished 3 days of rain.
    Today partly sunny, 38 degrees.

  17. Dora says:

I woke up during the night to use the bathroom and the house was dark. The lights were out. It’s a good thing I keep my flashlight on the night stand because I needed it to guide me through the rooms. It wasn’t easy. The house was pitch dark.

Can you believe that the first thing I thought of was “How am I going to get through the morning without my coffee”? It’s true. 🙂

A few years ago one of my neighbors told me that a man living at the very end of our block works for the Long Island Power Company and he always makes sure the lights on this block are restored first. I didn’t know if that was true, but I guess it is because our lights came back on within an hour. When I looked through the kitchen window in the back of the house, I noticed that the next block was still dark.

I wouldn’t be too pleased if some other block was receiving preferential treatment, but I sure was happy to see the lights in my house come back on.

Anyway, the weather is absolutely miserable. It’s pouring like mad, by now mixing with snow, but the worst thing is the wind. It’s hurricane force out there. I will not be surprised at all if the power goes out again. In fact, I expect it to.

    • votermom says:

Can you believe that the first thing I thought of was “How am I going to get through the morning without my coffee”?

that would be my worry too LOL

    • Ann says:

Get a whole house generator, Dora and never miss morning coffee again.

      • DeniseVB says:

We bought a portable one about 10 years ago, never needed it, so it’s been a good little idol to keep the mean power outages away. (Also, we share the electric grid with the Pat Robertson complex, THE JESUS GRID, so we’re covered there too 😉 ). Our little generator is good for the refrig and coffee pot. Gas grill for cooking!

I do think free speech applies to idiots like that, it doesn’t bother me, until my reaction pisses them off and they try to ban me for disagreeing with them. Libs want us all rounded up and sent to “camps” for disagreeing with them. Because they have no ideas better than ours ❤

Not a fan of doggy cloning, though I always wished mine lived forever. My luck, they’d screw something up in the lab and I’d end up with a minature furry T-Rex 😛 Kerry’s a good follow, a former local metro columnist just wasn’t “liberal” enough and was “retired”, like Don Surber, much better unchained, unedited and unafraid.

To lateblum: the old thread closed before I could respond to your question about 3 billboards—my friend played Momma Dixon. She’s the best.

    • mothy2017 says:

She’s so funny in Always Sunny.

    • lyn says:

OMG! I loved Momma Dixon! Loved her pet turtle too.

    • lateblum says:

No kidding. She nearly stole every scene she was in! You really must see the movie. It is raw and brutal in several places. And I wouldn’t encourage you to let the kiddos see it. It isn’t only the language that’s brutal.
The more I think of it, the more I like it.

      • Jadzia says:

Yeah, the promos don’t exactly scream “kid movie.” If I ever get two hours to myself, it will be probably the only movie I see this year. I just love Frances McDormand, although she will always be Officer Marge to me.
