Chinese Take Out

Only one of them is smiling.

I’m pretty sure this is all Trump’s fault:

Kim Jong Un committed to denuclearizing Korean Peninsula, Chinese state media reports

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un said on his first foreign visit since taking power that he is committed to denuclearizing the Korean Peninsula, Chinese state media reported Wednesday.

Kim paid an “unofficial visit” to Beijing from Sunday to Wednesday, official Chinese news agency Xinhua reported, confirming days of speculation that the the reclusive leader had traveled to his country’s closest ally. It was Kim’s first foreign trip since taking power in late 2011.

Xinhua said Kim met with President Xi Jinping in Beijing at the Chinese leader’s request. The visit is a precursor to another much-anticipated meeting later this year between Kim and President Trump.

Kim said on his trip to Beijing that the situation on the Korean Peninsula was starting to improve after Pyongyang took the initiative to ease tensions and proposed peace talks.

“It is our consistent stand to be committed to denuclearization on the peninsula, in accordance with the will of late President Kim Il Sung and late General Secretary Kim Jong Il,” Kim said referring to his predecessors, according to Xinhua.

North Korea has been a Chinese puppet since the Korean War. Before that they were a puppet of USSR. Without support from Beijing and Moscow, the Norks would have folded long ago. Especially China.

If China tells Wo Fat the jig is up, then the jig is up. They would take him out if he refused and install someone pliable in his place. If the Chinese don’t do it then Trump will, but I think they’ll do it so they can maintain control. Besides, war is bad for business.

One way or the other, I predict a mostly peaceful reunification of Korea in the next few years.

Language evolves. The meanings change with time and usage. If we stopped using every phrase that had unseemly origins, we probably wouldn’t speak at all.
The word negro, comes from the perfectly innocuous origin of the Spanish word for the color black, so I guess it’s OK to use now?
I am so fed up with this PC everything is racist crap.

We’ve been here before, I hope POTUS and team USA demand tough inspections. NK lies all the time, so does China. We must verify, double and triple verify.

All that being said, I hope this is for real. It would be wonderful to have peace. It would be even better to end the isolation and suffering of the NK people. I guess time will tell.

      agree completely.

I would bet on peace as long as Trump is around. The next Lib that gets elected will return to Kabuki intellectual Beta moves and incremental speech and then we will have re-nuclearization.

I don’t think reunification is in the cards. China doesn’t want a unified pro-Western Korea ruled from Seoul, and the NorK dream of conquering the whole peninsula has no real chance of success in the next few years. Moreover, Lil’ Kim has apparently re-started the reactor complex at Yongbyon, which would mean increased plutonium production. He’s got the nukes and ICBMs, and he may be able to put them together. I’d say he’s got enough of a deterrent force to sleep peacefully at night. Time will tell.

The mom of one of my 13-year-old students had sex with one of her son’s friends. Another dad heard the boy bragging about it and turned her into the police. She got sent to the cross-bar motel for a stint. I’m pretty sure the victim’s dad wouldn’t have pressed charges if he hadn’t been shamed into it. I’m not supporting what the mom did, but an older woman initiating a young man into sex was accepted historically. Maybe just not at 13. Personally, as a teacher spending a lot of time around 13-year-old boys, I never found them very interesting in a sexual way. I’m always amazed when a teacher does. Their conversation is at the level of fart jokes, and let’s just say they’re too horny to offer much to a woman pleasure-wise. It has to be “forbidden thrill”.

I confess, when I was 34, I had a romance with someone who was 17. I met him about a month before his 18th birthday. But, he had a 4 inch thick very full dark beard , a physique like Chris Pratt after he lost weight and got buff; a deep resonant voice, and a maturity which at the time, seemed beyond his years.
I didn’t ask his age, initially, because I thought he was about at least 25. He didn’t ask mine, but I was still getting carded until I was 36 or so.
I freaked out when I eventually found out how old he was, because I had a major crush, and I knew any relationship was doomed, and of course, because of how young he was.

I cannot imagine, being attracted to a child, that looks like a child. Something has to be off there. Way off.

      where are this brats parents?

    • mothy2017 says:

Wonder if that can be believed. 4.2 GPA, 1270 SAT?

      • elliesmom says:

A 4.2 GPA on a 5.0 scale is a B+. A 1270 SAT score is slightly above average for all college freshman, but not highly competitive. I can believe it. He’s been rejected by UC at four campuses, but has been accepted at Cal Poly and and Cal State San Marcos and Florida Atlantic University. I’m guessing he’s at least thinking about a STEM field since Cal Poly is on his list. While they offer other degrees, the name Polytechnic suggests a leaning that way. You can major in English at MIT, but it’s not a place someone wanting that degree chooses. It could be his 1270 is skewed toward good reading and writing scores, and he’s suggesting in his application he’ll be choosing a math heavy major, maybe economics or business if not science and/or engineering. I don’t think any of the schools that have rejected him did it on the basis of his activism. He’s just an out of state white male with average credentials.

        • mothy2017 says:

Way back when 1240 was cutoff for top schools. We didn’t have 5.0 scale. I applied based on cost of application as I was paying.

          • elliesmom says:

The median SAT score for the freshman class at any college changes from year to year. There’s no set cutoff number- just a reality check. If you look up the stats for the last 3 years at your dream school, and you’re at or above the mean, you should apply. If you’re just below the mean, you should still apply, but keep looking for a school you love almost as much, but puts you above the mean. I was looking for scholarship money so I was looking at schools that were looking for me. 😉

      • Somebody says:

He needs to concentrate on retaking the SAT or perhaps try the ACT. If he’d raise his score a little he could get a Florida bright futures scholarship which is funded by lottery $. He’s just below the cut off, but I think his score is high enough for the partial scholarship or the vocational one.

He won’t get into any of the major schools in FL with those credentials……well maybe FSU😋 He doesn’t seem interested in staying in FL. Bye Felicia!

      • Mt.Laurel says:

It also depends on the courses he has taken and where the high/low grades are in terms of course content. Our valedictorian was either turned down or put on waitlists because although she had a very high GPA, her SATs were only okay and she did not bother the ACTs which limited her choices. She also never took anything beyond the required maths, science and language courses needed to meet the state requirements graduation. And her electives were always just the lowest level course offered in the series. Add to that we were a private college prep school and it really did look all the great. Was sure being a cheerleader and president of the pep club was all she needed for extracurricular. She was peeved that classmates with lower GPAs but much harder courses, more interesting outside activities and strong electives had no problems getting acceptance letters even with just okay test results. She was a snowflake before there were snowflakes. Everyone had a few that they grew up with – it is now just more common. The kids whose parent(s) told them they were perfect, the best at everything, etc . . . .She ended up going to a junior college the next January. Nothing wrong in that, but it was clear she ignored the advise of teachers and others who tried to get her to put forth a bit more actual effort.

Cuomo goes to black church, says Jews can’t dance

Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Sunday made fun of the “rhythm” of “our Jewish brothers and sisters” during a speech at a predominantly black church in Harlem.

Cuomo strayed onto the risky terrain of religious humor and stereotypes while thanking the congregation at Mount Neboh Baptist Church for the invitation to speak.

“….Jeffrey Toobin likes to crank up his wind machine about Trump’s lack of integrity, but not so long ago Toobin’s squalid personal life was tabloid fodder. He was cheating on his wife with former CNN correspondent Jeff Greenfield’s daughter, impregnated her, then (unsuccessfully) put pressure on her to get an abortion, according to the New York Daily News in 2010.”

  19. I often use my nephew as a prime example of the Snowflake Generation. Let me I say I still love him, and I’m hopeful for him. Last year he was a senior at Drexel. He was ranting and cursing at his family for even considering voting for Trump. He graduated and moved to NYC with his “sexually confused” partner. We were still trying to figure what his partner’s gender is, but it has become irrelevant. They couldn’t make rent or feed themselves so they have split up. He came home and moved in with his sister and her fiance. The two of them own a lovely home on Cape Cod. She has a degree in business, is a professional dog trainer, and owns a doggie daycare business, including the building it’s in. Her soon-to-be husband saved his pennies and bought the septic tank cleaning business he worked for when his boss decided to retire. They’re both under 30 and voted for Trump. Nephew lives in their guest room and was offered a job with either company. He’s walking dogs for a little more than room and board and minimum wage. He couldn’t quite bring himself to drive a shit collection truck although it would have brought him a much better paycheck. But no one has been subjected to an anti-Trump rant from him in months. Baby steps.

Barr, who recently revived her ’90s sitcom “Roseanne,” made her working-class character a supporter of President Donald Trump. Barr stood by her support of the president after the interviewer attempted to call her out for supposed contradictions in her beliefs, during a Wednesday interview with The New York Times,
