Therefore the smart move is to never say anything positive about Trump.
That’s the lesson the Left wants people to learn.
Let’s say you have three options, speak well of Trump, speak ill of Trump or say nothing.
Say nothing is the best option. This falls under the Laura Ingraham “shut up and sing” premise. By default, the left assumes the artist agrees and the right at least appreciates the lack of a screed against the right.
Now, speaking ill of Trump is bad for business, but you have a large amount of cover in the entertainment community. Even if you lose fans, you don’t lose business partners.
However, speaking well of Trump is the worst option. First, it is bad for business. Even more, it is bad for business relationships in the entertainment business. If you say something positive, but not specific praise, you will be encouraged by your industry (and your management) to walk it back. At the same time, you have become tainted from the view of the right and the left.
The other downside is that Trump support becomes your “thing.” Rosanne’s show is pretty much described as pro-Trump, even though Rosanne has pointed out other topics are covered. The big stars who support Trump / Republicans are usually former stars who don’t do a lot of work anymore.
Twain was only speaking about the way Trump was able to win, and yet the right suddenly embraced her as some sort of hero.
Any person who speaks well of Trump has more guts than those who don’t.
