Help Black Americans By Building The Wall

Via Don Surber:

“Unfortunately in Chicago, there is a widespread segregationist employment model to contract out most of your production work through temporary agencies and look the other way when they target employees by race or immigration status,” says Giloth, a former union organizer who is project manager for the group Coalition Against Segregation of Employees. “The goal is to create a very vulnerable workforce — and keep the wages low.”

Tracy Stecko, a spokesman for Aryzta, declined to comment except to say, “Our company briefly owned that bakery operation but no longer does, so you may want to ask your questions to more appropriate parties, such as ICE or the union that is the legal ‎bargaining representative for most workers at that bakery.”

Aryzta bought Cloverhill in 2014. At the time, according to bakery employees and community organizers, most of the employees were natives of Mexico, most who’d been hired through Labor Network, a temporary-employment agency.

But many of those workers weren’t temporary in the dictionary sense of the word. Most were so-called “permatemps” — temp workers who actually were permanently employed at Cloverhill. Most had been there for years, at least, and some for decades.

In 2015, under the Obama administration, ICE inspected the documentation of Labor Network’s employees at Cloverhill. In May 2017, the Trump administration sent letters to about 800 employees, saying they weren’t authorized to work in the United States, records examined by the Chicago Sun-Times show.

Those Hispanic employees didn’t return to work, leaving the bakery desperate to fill their jobs. So the company turned to another placement agency, Metro Staff Inc., and it provided Cloverhill with workers screened through the government’s “E-Verification” program. Most of those new employees are African American.

Ed French, owner of Elgin-based Metro Staff Inc., says his company became the main provider of workers for the bakery and that about 80 percent of them are black. According to French, workers at the bakery were paid slightly less before his company was hired two and a half years ago — with wages up by about 25 cents an hour, to just above minimum wage.

He says everyone hired through his company is permitted to work in the country and has passed a background check and drug test.

According to a former consultant to the bakery, MSI paid the black workers $14 an hour, versus the $10 an hour the Mexican workers were making through Labor Network.

There are literally millions of illegal aliens working in this country. There are also millions of American People Of Color who are unemployed. We have millions of unemployed white people too. We are spending tax dollars to help these unemployed Americans.

If we get rid of the illegal aliens we can give their jobs to the unemployed, simultaneously helping our poorer citizens while reducing government spending.

Well, some if not most will head to Chicago, New York and anywhere in California.

NY and Chicago are pretty long hikes. I wonder how they will get here.

        • Cisco says:

Well I think if the illegal’s are getting free legal advice at the border, the free transportation is in place.
          Let’s wait and see.

Read about the Cloverhill bakery about 6 months ago. The downside of the situation was that the remaining legal Hispanic workers were run off of the job, and the “new” workers had poor productivity and, IIRC, a 40% rate. Don’t know if the situation has improved.

Looks like Papa Bear Mike Huckabee was up all night tweeting. Here’s a good one….

How about “prosecute the employers who hire ineligible workers”? I’m pretty sure that nobody at “Labor Network” went to jail over this. They should have.

Ok, this is the guy who posted that nasty ” used pad on the face” photo that myiq reposted here the other day. Terrence has been in and out of Facebook jail for weeks, he posted that nasty photo to prove….nobody reported him for that.

You first, Holy Man, tear down your wall and dismiss your guards. Gawd, the Catholics can do better. Good grief, this takes me back to my 1969 HOLY HELL pre-nup meeting with a priest that required we be birth control free before he could marry us. I was like, fine, we’ll go to Vegas and be married by the Devil of Sin. He said fine, okay, I’ll marry you in the Church to save your souls. Cool.

The other night on Frontline (no, really, keep reading) there was a story about Guatemalan teens recruited to work at egg producing facilities in the Midwest. The kicker was that the coyotes started recruiting teenage boys because DACA made it easy to bring them up north.

In those cases, the reason why they produced more than Black employees is that supervisors told the Guatemalans their parents would be killed if they didn’t do what they were told.

    • Lulu says:

You know, I don’t believe them. It is always the same story. Someone is going to kill them, beat them up, rape them, etc. Even if they have lived here for ever, were born here, etc it’s the same old same old. The parents send them here to work, make money, AND send it home to THEM. If the “kids” kept the money they earn the parents would not send them except rarely and that would be to a relative. If there is a problem with gangs, criminals they need to deal with them themselves but oddly enough they send their children away to safety AND to make money and sign up for every freebie in sight. And of course a lot are gang members themselves who pick up their vocation right back up when they get into the US. Funny that too.

You know what? I don’t want to fucking hear about how vulgar she was in the rest of her speech. She nailed it. Go read the two posts I wrote on Amy Chozick if you don’t believe her.

We are in the worst crisis in our nation’s history since the Civil War. In fact, we are in a second civil war right now. The rebellion has spread beyond the south and now its marbled in all of our communities. Some more than others. I am beyond relieved to live where I do in Pittsburgh surrounded by hard working honorable people who I respect and like. I feel very sorry for Democrats stuck in Jackson, Mississippi or backwoods Georgia. But make no mistake, it’s out there and the tension between the two sides is palpable. Some days, they win a battle, some days we do. And it takes all our concentration on a daily basis to not rage against the way good people are being treated just because they have a different skin color, or aren’t CIS or are women or are sick or mentally ill or not white Anglo Saxon Protestant males.

God help you if you are not worth at least hundreds of millions of dollars in America these days. If you aren’t, and most of us aren’t, then you are a complete loser to the Trump contingent and the well connected wealthy people who bought their congressional representatives. Trump gives his voters the cheap thrill of bullying people they think are below them in the social hierarchy while directing their attention away from the neo-feudal lords who are taking everything that isn’t nailed down. What could be more nasty and brutish than that? Are we saying it’s more important to protect the fee-fees of Sarah Sanders who willfully enables the wholesale slaughter of our democracy than to protect the people who are on the losing end of it?

All of those people who are getting all prissy about Michelle Wolf gave us this moron having “campaign rallies” continuously since he took office.

This is a man who called Nazis “very fine people”.

That is one of the most vulgar and offensive things I have ever heard coming from the ugly little fish mouth of Donald Trump. There is nothing even remotely fine about Nazis. It would be like promoting satanism as our state religion.

Before they bluster and sputter and grab their smelling salts about what Michelle Wolf said, they should hold this man and his loathesome, lying borg of a press secretary accountable for the harm they are perpetrating on the vast majority of Americans (and let’s not even get started on the obscene way he has treated our American citizens in Puerto Rico).

Until then, they can all kiss my ass.

Addendum: Our press is very stupid. They think they can continue to use Trump as a revenue enhancing gimmick without repercussions. Oh, sure, he’s getting down on the media but they’re protected by the first amendment. What’s he going to do? Change the constitution??

That’s very possible. They should be studying what happened in Turkey, Hungary and Poland in the last several years. In fact, without an independent corporate media, the freedom of speech would still exist. We just wouldn’t hear much of it. The news would be relegated to blogs, provided net neutrality obliteration let you get to them. Or newspapers on paper, provided tariffs on newsprint still made that economically viable. There is always HAM radios I suppose but they require government issued licenses. Good luck with that.

If the press isn’t careful, it will be corralled into a metaphorical and actual free speech zone where they will have all the free speech they can eat and where they will disturb absolutely no one.

Rosie also suggested you never pick on someone bigger than your self, earlier I posted Rob Schneider’s hate isn’t funny. IMHO, late night comedy hasn’t been funny since Obama was elected. Therefore, media and “comedy” were on vacation for 8 years? I think so 😉

It’s been cold and just nasty here.
But I put the fixin’s for this a crock pot last night.
This afternoon I had a warm steamy bowl of the tastiest chowder I’ve had in a while.
    Warmed me to the core.
Of course I had two bowls.
