Illegal Immigration is a Child Welfare Issue

Children at a Texas Detention Facility for Illegal Immigrant Children

I want you to think of the kids. It’s for them that separation is necessary, regardless of system-generated trauma.

I used to work for CPS. I removed children from their families for a variety of reasons, at all times of the night and day. Sometimes I removed them because their parents were being arrested and there were no other caregivers available, or the caregivers could not be reached in time to avoid it. It was always a traumatic experience for the kids, no matter their age or history. It also couldn’t be avoided.

That’s where we are now with President Trump’s Zero Tolerance for illegal immigration initiative. The renewed flush of immigrants who overwhelm our borders have to be stopped. Yes, I have sympathy for their plight and exodus from neighborhoods that are poor and violent, but I also know that if people keep fleeing, if they have a pathway to freedom and opportunity, their own countries will never stop being what they are. A home is what you make it, and so is a country.

I also know that, under the previous strategy of not arresting adults who bring their children and that of unaccompanied minors, these children will be brought into the country with no permanency.

Federal law requires that when a state CPS agency take over the care and custody of children, certain mandates apply. Namely the state must ensure the safety, stability, well-being, and permanency of those children. These are the same things families would typically provide for their children, and when they are removed under the doctrine of parens patriae, the state must step in to provide them.

Even IF an illegal immigrant parent could provide safety, stability, and well-being for their children, questionable with an illegal status and their own trauma in many cases, they cannot, under an illegal immigration scheme, provide for the permanency of their children. Their children will face the same limited prospects and the same constant uncertainty their parents will face with avoiding detection by local police and federal agencies designed to stop the influx of illegal immigrants into the country.

We can have the debate about whether or not we want to codify something like DACA, but if the illegal immigration flow is not stemmed, we will have need for a permanent DACA, and that is untenable. We will have children raised with the continuing trauma of avoiding detection, of living a life on the run from the police powers that protect us all. Because of their illegal status, they will be unable in many cases to develop a moral, justice-centered view of themselves and their environment, and this will lead to poor life outcomes for most.

Do we need a sensible immigration policy? Yes, yes we do. President Trump is trying to articulate that policy in fits and starts, with only the authority vested in the Executive branch. We cannot continue to let illegal immigrants ignore our laws and our borders and overwhelm our already bursting-at-the-seams infrastructure. We simply can’t afford illegal immigration at the levels it has been going on for decades. Amnesty was tried in the 1980s under Reagan, and it failed. No sensible leadership would fall for that scheme again, but a leadership who doesn’t care about existing legal constituents would. Or a leadership who would like to game the already permissive voting system might. We need a protected, controlled border where we get to decide how many, and what kind of immigrants come to this country.

We built this great country, and we made the best set of rules to ensure the freedom and opportunity of our people. We called it the Constitution. Immigrant children need exposure to that view of the system, and the only way they will get it is if they come in the legal way. Or, they could build their own in their own countries one day. It will be in their and their families best interests that they do so.

The facilities are 20 years old !!?? Why that puts it in Clinton’s last term 😉 Bill was ragging on Trump about ripping families apart on twitter today, he got slammed with that famous Elian Gonzalez photo. But, but, but Pres Clinton wanted to reunite him with his FATHER! Of course forgetting Elian’s mom died trying to get away from him and communism. Thanks Bill, hecka of job!

Good report Lola. You make a lot of sense.

I have to admit though, that the more these refugees come crossing into our country making demands, the less sympathetic I am. I can’t help it. They are getting on my nerves!

What really upsets me is watching certain politicians using these children as pawns. They are pushing their own agenda and trying to make President Trump look bad. He’s a cold hearted racist, don’t you know. They are shameful!

Thanks for the post. It is an important topic and should be discussed by calmer heads than mine. I’m afraid there aren’t too many of those around. 🙂

Heh. Had a college graduation party for my son yesterday for about 30 of his friends, and one of them, a very bright young man with an engineering degree from Berkeley who is heading to Harvard in a few weeks earn his Ph.D., tried to help put a fresh trash bag in the trash can after I pulled out the full one.
It was rather amusing watching him struggle, first to unfold it, then to find the opening and open it, then to pop it open before finally lining the trash can with it.
Great kid. He laughed that they didn’t teach him certain practicalities at Berkeley.

just once I would like to see a democrat give a shit about an American citizen. They want us to kill our babies, then cry when children are separated from intruders breaking the law coming in here. The are not happy that jobs are increasing for American citizens and taxes are lower for them. After all our tax money is to pay for a better life for an intruder, not us.
For those who still vote democratic, when are you going to wake up and see the contempt they have for you? They spell it out every day. Look at the cities they are in charge of, how is life there? Not too good from what I see.

I tweeted something similar about parents knowingly putting their children in an unstable and unsafe situation a day ago and was blocked from one account for being “a Trump troll” and called a racist by another person. The only thing they seemed to want to do is to convince peeps of the heartlessness of “tearing babies from their mothers”

      • DeniseVB says:

      • Venus E. Lee says:

        Fuck them.
They’re lunatics who don’t give a shit about these kids, which is shown by the fact they didn’t say a peep about them when Obama was POTUS. They are hate filled lunatics who’s ignorance is only exceeded by their delusion.

        • lateblum says:

Truth. When I mentioned it happened during bronco bama’s term and I hadn’t seen anyone make a big deal about these “kids” at that time (fearful of being called ‘the R word’). That labeled me as a “bot-troll”. S/He then said I wasn’t willing to learn anything from her/him and blocked me.

  19. lyn says:

In 2005, a left-leaning blogger wrote, “Illegal immigration wreaks havoc economically, socially, and culturally; makes a mockery of the rule of law; and is disgraceful just on basic fairness grounds alone.” In 2006, a liberal columnist wrote that “immigration reduces the wages of domestic workers who compete with immigrants” and that “the fiscal burden of low-wage immigrants is also pretty clear.” His conclusion: “We’ll need to reduce the inflow of low-skill immigrants.” That same year, a Democratic senator wrote, “When I see Mexican flags waved at proimmigration demonstrations, I sometimes feel a flush of patriotic resentment. When I’m forced to use a translator to communicate with the guy fixing my car, I feel a certain frustration.”

The blogger was Glenn Greenwald. The columnist was Paul Krugman. The senator was Barack Obama

    • DeniseVB says:

Good catch ! Obama always shifted with the political winds. I remember his “heroic” anti-war speech that he ran on. Only problem was, local Chicago media couldn’t find any proof he gave it. They searched their broadcast and print media archives and figured out he did speak at a Jesse Jackson anti-war rally, but nobody recorded it or wrote about it. So his campaign recreated a new one. The one where “against dumb wars” came from.

  26. swanspirit says:

If I thought for any fraction of a second, that the people on the left screaming about the “children” actually cared about children, any children, with the possible exception of their own powdered and protected own offspring, I might give two hoots about what they said. But they don’t, and neither do I, care about their hypocritical histrionics.
The actual children in question are being cared for more safely, and more solicitously, than they were by their own parents.
What a great post Lola, you have more patience than I do, in this regard.

I have participated in proceedings to remove children from dysfunctional families, and also helped put families back together, but mostly taken care of those kids while they were in custody, and seen the damage done. Almost without exception, the children benefited from removal, and being placed in a safe environment. They benefit from being safe, improved nutrition, hygiene, everything.

These children of illegal aliens deserve better than to be dragged across a border illegally, at risk of life and limb.

Whoever is misleading these families, in the belief that it is ok to bring their children on such a dangerous journey, and break the laws of another country, should be in prison. And that includes these people on the left, who are exploiting them, for their own ambitions.

“~ 500 illegal immigrants die in the desert along our border each year. These are verified, reported numbers, so we can agree those numbers are likely higher.

More die of heat stoke in 18-wheeler trailers and hidden compartments.

Lets assume a good portion are children.

Just using the lower number… literally thousands of children likely died out in the desert S. W. Over the decades.

The desert is literally littered with the bleached bones of children and adults, because of the open borders policies you support

So spare me the pious bullshit…” Tom Culpepper

  30. mothy2017 says:

I think what infuriates me most about the illegals is that it is a blatant attempt at manipulation using kids. I find that sickening.
Do people actually believe that its not coordinated? Europe and US at the same time?
Remember reading a few years back that there were radio ads in central America advising people on how to milk the US welfare system. Surely someone should be able to find those ads.

    • Lulu says:

Criminals of every stripe use manipulation. The children are brought over to get benefits or free money, large housing allotments for nothing, the run of food banks, etc. Locally the charities (all Catholic) are running ads currently for donations for food bank, free summer food programs, free clothes and school supplies, etc. Their ads have all Hispanic kids, not one black or white kid, and their chubby mothers with beggy and sad faces (but they don’t show them rolling up in new gas-hog that cost a fortune to operate Suburbans to pick up the loot). Then they wonder why they get almost no donations. Manipulation. But mostly bull-shit.

      • mothy2017 says:

Its all Catholic Charities here as well. What I want to know is does the Church pay property taxes on the houses they own and rent to the government to house the various immigrants. Property and school taxes keep going up while school faces yuuge cutbacks and has to hire several ESL teachers.
No one can tell me my brat’s education is not being compromised by this influx. A school with around 100 students per class can not absorb 6 different languages.
Everyone one of the families has an SUV. How?????

  31. Dora says:

    • Lulu says:

Bringing a minor over the border, your own should not matter, should be a human trafficking charge. They do it for economic gain for themselves which is an element of the crime of human trafficking

Well, 2 years now clean and sober, knock wood 🙂 Yes, I took their side.

  44. Lulu says:

This “ripping babies from the tit!”, “tiny tots in dog kennels!”, “tearing families APART with their TEETH!” is the latest PR smash-up before the Amnesty bill that is being shoved down our throats in Congress. The GOPe international Chamber of Commerce slave labor sponsors and the pro-sex trafficking and drug pushing Dems have this summer (which is going by fast) to open that border to the cartels before the fall elections. The hectoring and shaming of the people of the United States is really all they have left.

I look at these “refugee” children, at the southern border and/or in Europe and I see $100 bills flying out of my purse. None are starving, none are in distress, they look like they are going on vacation to Six Flags and the beach. Moving people from other parts of the world is expensive. They don’t walk from Mexico to the border of Texas and then on to Ohio. They do NOT walk from Eritrea to Italy or France. Somebody pays for it and somebody in turn gets PAID to do it and it is an enormous business. It is almost as lucrative as running drugs which is what most of the moved people wind up doing when they get moved to very specific locations like Maine. Or Milan. To milk taxpayers for their care, housing and feeding while they laze around when not engaged in selling or moving drugs. It is the progressive plan of cartels to get taxpayers to pay for the cost their labor.

The shrieking from the usual suspects is so loud, and hypocritical you have to see what they are doing. None of the shriekers come within 50 miles of a hord of illegal aliens on purpose (except a photo-op). They have to up the volume and hysterical SHAMING every time they pull this shit. And it doesn’t work any more. People are hardened to it and cynical from long experience. Shrieking “NAZI” at people who are sick of their school taxes being doubled and paying for armies of “social workers” to hand out money to drug runners and idenity theives babies “on the tit!” and their mothers while the men are in SUV caravans driving 100 mph wrecking and terrorizing south Texas with drug running and human trafficking. It is an everyday thing down there.

The scams are running out of steam. The get out of jail free card to pillage the US and old Europe is being pulled. The dehumanization of populations that don’t want to be overrun with criminals and their hostile and trouble making abused children is how you got Trump, the new populist Italian government, and I think a red wave in November from gross miscalculation of how much shit (already proven to result in the opposite desired result in 2016) they can pull with selective enforcement of our borders. Every single one of the SHAMERS is part of the borg that profits directly or indirectly from the trafficking of children by their parents. Think about that you moron criminal Chelsea Clinton. Then shut the F’ up.

    • DeniseVB says:

Yes ! I noticed the children “appeared” a lot healthier and better dressed than the majority of our inner city kids. The media never seems to question “exactly how did they get from there to here?”. My favorite photos lately have been the fresh off the boat twentysomething men with cigs and cellphones. Why aren’t they back in their home countries and make it great again too ?

      • Lulu says:

They export the do-nothings, excess manual labor or their families get together the money to get rid of them. The productive and non crazies, the educated and sane stay where they are and don’t need to get out of Dodge for someone else to pay for them. And sadly many are people who have been fed and housed with foreign aid who would have never made it to adulthood or even born if not for poorly thought out virtue signalling which leads to over-population of areas that can’t support those numbers and were traditionally low population for very good reasons.

  50. DandyTIger says:

Wonder what the percentage of these illegal children are with their parents vs. with their kidnappers or sex slave owners? And how do you tell? Currently there are two legal choices: 1) separate them, getting the kids care and feeding and support, and finding out once they feel safe if they’re actually with parents or not, 2) don’t hold kids with their adults and just let them go free into the US, where kids may be sex slaves, go hungry, be abused, die, or in some small percentage, be OK, but with no way of knowing.

    • DandyTIger says:

And the latter of course gives incentive for more kidnappings and kid sex trafficking since that provides free and open entry into the US.

    • Lulu says:

Why am I supposed to pay for any of them? Did I volunteer? No. Did my reps volunteer me to shell out for it? I don’t think so. So who the fuck decided I am supposed to pay for kids who are not even in this country, have no right to live in this country, share anything with me regarding culture, language, civilization, anything and look better fed than me? And who the hell told them that I would and that they could make me? And since I’m an evil, deplorable NAZI racist why the f’ do you think you can shame me into it. You can’t and you make sure of it with the demonization and shit talking. No. You didn’t ask nicely nor my opinion so go work on your mental issues somewhere else open border assholes.

      • DeniseVB says:

I’d still like to know why the left would want those poor, innocent chlllrens to come live in a country with over 63+million “Nazi, racist, POS, worse than ISIS” Trump supporters? Wouldn’t their lives be even in greater peril ? /sarc 😛

    • Constance says:

A hundred dollars of genetic testing which can be done on spit will easily tell them if the child is a daughter, son, cousin, second cousin etc. I think it would be interesting testing to do and well worth the money.

    • This is ultimately the problem right here. We have 10 year old kids coming into our state to work free in certain ethnic restaurants to pay their parent’s debts in San Salvador. It’s horrible.

And all those unaccompanied minors? Usually about 16 years old. Automatic foster care and free citizenship after 5 crime-free years. A sizable portion don’t make it that long crime-free, and we’re expected to ball our eyes out when they get deported at age 18 or 19.

  51. DeniseVB says:

This is all for Goober Ryan and his open border donors Amnesty push this summer before they retire or the Dems get wiped out. It is a lame duck stunt. I really think Trump is goading them with the “fix the laws” so everyone can have Amnesty and be happy, happy, happy. Then he vetos it and they are caught voting with their asses hanging out. Exactly who is going to be happy? The Congress knows if they vote for the lame ducks shit they will be flayed alive in the future. Like with the DACA crap (now in the hands of the courts IN TEXAS and then the Fifth Circuit) it is all a little monkey dance.

      • Constance says:

The Left also doesn’t update their Bingo cage of problems because they keep bringing up abortion and birth control and gay marriage/rights and slavery which are problems that were taken care of in the past.

        • DeniseVB says:

Like the Christian owners of Chick-Fil-A simply believe in traditional marriage and donate to pro-life orgs, they must BE DESTROYED. Now if they refused to serve gays and women in pussy hats, I might have a problem with them. But they give back to the community in YUGE ways that should more than make up of differences in ideology. Remember they provided free food to the blood donors of the Pulse nightclub massacre? They opened on a Sunday and their employees delivered food to motorists stuck on a those icy Atlanta roads a few years back by maneuvering down icy embankments to get to them? When we supported them during the original Hate Chicken boycott, our local franchise provided cold drinks to the protesters. (there was a 2 mile backup to get into their store that day, we ate at the McD’s next door, hey, we were hungry 😉 )

There are clothesline’s everywhere but never have I seen women’s or children’s clothes hanging from them. It’s like the government thinks we don’t have eyes. My boss here just took two so called unaccompanied minors—from Guinea, a country that is not at war and has nothing really wrong with it except typical corruption kind of stuff. He’s an idiot, but I worry for his safety and the safety of his wife.

I’m not a fan of mixing politics with live theater, but the “Hamilton” cast started this nonsense by dressing down the Pences after one of their performances….to cheers and boos… “they” started it. So yay to this person !!

The show is closing! Per this reply…..on the way out and blames DeNiro!

Who knows, maybe a backer paid the kid……he was off to the side, not blocking the cast from the audience wasn’t yelling anything? AND, the NYPost is covering it?

But I suppose that’s some serious stuff.

I don’t know why the FBI has a problem with confidentiality. HIPAA laws regarding confidentiality are crystal clear, and ensure compliance.
Why not put penalties similar to those for HIPAA, for leaks? That might prevent a lot of leaking.

IMHO, this is when LGBT went off the rails after the Supremes approved Gay Marriage. I wondered, Ok, that’s great, but what’s next, what’s left? Sure enough, legalizing Pedos and Beastiality are on their radar. Isn’t this just out of the Islam playbook? Why would they take up causes supporting extreme islamics throw you off the roof for your, cough, “lifestyle”?

What am I missing? Don’t see what this has to do with lgbt?
IMHO lgbt went off the rails when it started adding letters. Somebody is making money by being constantly aggrieved.
