    Come on Boris! Do it!

Boris Johnson STILL hasn’t decided if he’ll quit and deliver killer blow to Theresa May after David Davis resignation

The Prime Minister could now face a leadership challenge from Leave-backing MPs furious at the soft Brexit plan agreed by the Cabinet at Chequers

  3. BjornTheBorg says:

Question time for the PM in Commons: May is trying to salvage her government, but she’s not really getting anywhere. The deal that led to the resignations of Davis and Johnson is too weak for the “Hard Brexit” Tories, but anything closer to what they want is unacceptable to most voters. The real issue seems to be the Irish border. May needs the support of Northern Irish Unionists to keep her government together, but a full Brexit and a hard Ireland/UK border are very unpopular in Northern Ireland. Things look pretty sad for her: it reminds me of the speech she gave a while back when the signage behind her started crumbling as she droned on and on. It looks like Trump might not have a PM to visit on the 13th.

    • lyn says:

Their visit with the Queen may be longer.

    • Somebody says:

      Didn’t the voters approve Brexit?

Perhaps a hard Brexit is unacceptable to most of Parliament, who at this point has the ball. The actual voters and citizens I think would narrowly favor a more hardline stance and exit.

      • BjornTheBorg says:

It’s really murky and there’s not a whole lot of good polling on the issue: the results depend on how the question is phrased. Generally speaking, the most popular alternative is the “Norway Model” or “Soft Brexit” that would keep a good deal of the EU regulations in place. The really hard alternative is not terribly popular, and negotiations with Brussels on just how to manage the Brexit are dragging on with no end in sight.

        • Lulu says:

Horseshit. Brexiteers want a hard Brexit to stop the open borders and blackmail money going to the EU technocrats to pay themselves for making more regulations. The UK is the wallet of the EU. They are sick of it. Let Merkel and Macron pay for it if they can after their NATO bill is paid in full. The “polling” is the same crap put out showing Brexit would lose.

          • BjornTheBorg says:

How much polling have you seen on the issue? The most recent survey from showed the Norway model “EEA with restrictions” rating 57% acceptable, 29% unacceptable, while the hard Brexit “WTO rules” was acceptable to 37% and unacceptable to 48%. The hard Brexiteers among the Tories definitely want the hard Brexit, but it’s completely unclear whether public opinion would support that. May is trying to have it both ways, but that’s pretty clearly not working out.

          • Underwhelmed says:

The EU has morphed into some grossly evil swamp. That a nation like Britain, with all its history, could allow itself to be put in a position where some unelected bureaucrat in Brussels gets to tell them what kind of vacuum cleaner they’re allowed to use? That is one of great tragedies. I can’t comprehend how they have let themselves be so ruined, in every way.

Long ago I realized that keeping up with American politics is exhausting enough. Trying to figure out the politics of other countries is just too much work, and since I don’t trust the media anyway . . .

Good points and why I appreciate Lulu and others sharing the info without the media filters. My only shiny object to follow in the UK are the Balloon Wars as the oppo is putting up a Baby Mayor Kahn balloon. (I doubt either will fly near the Trumps as air space is usually very restricted for our Presidents’ foreign visits).

        • Mt.Laurel says:

Am I the only whose had the thought of a Baby James Kirk balloon screaming “Khan” as a fun twist on the Battle of the London Dirigibles Of course it needs to be the real deal. .

Time for the NeverTrumpers to put on their big boy pants and fight the real evil to our country – The Democrats. Didn’t Chuckles Schumer recently claim that not allowing illegals to vote is racist ? It’s just getting too absurd to be shocked any more.

What is the over/under on Kavanaugh being the pick? I do not know a lot about him, but it worries me that he is a DC insider and bushie pick.
does anyone here know more about him?

    • DeniseVB says:

According to the Paparazzi Mainstream Media, all the “suspects” homes have been staked out, I believe is was Kavanaugh who was the only one seen leaving in a security motorcade heading towards the WH. 😀

    • Cisco says:

I listened to the announcement and I was alarmed when Kavanaugh mentioned something about Kagan giving him some sort of recommendation.
I’ll have to go back and listen more closely.

Helen, This was awesome! I don’t grill, but my son does. I watched him struggle with turning bratwurst on Sunday. I’m gonna send him this…. I loved how much easier and more interesting the foods were —- especially the salmon (my personal fave.

    • lyn says:

Trump didn’t want a bad fight, IMHO.

      • Venus E. Lee says:

No, it’s going to be a bad fight. They will attempt to ‘Bork’ whoever Trump picked. Trump wanted to make sure the Dems make even a bigger, more obvious spectacle of what hate filled lunatics they are, exposing their ‘true faces’ to even more normies, & thus ensuring Rs remain in control of the House & Senate (by a bigger margin) in November.

        • lyn says:

Oh, I agree with you that Trump will expose the Democrats as those craven political animals who will Bork an excellent jurist.

          • SHV says:

“exposing their ‘true faces’ to even more normies, & thus ensuring Rs remain in control of the House & Senate (by a bigger margin) in November.”
I think that is his reasoning. Pick the best Jurist, ie 12 yrs and 300 decisions and let the Dems go crazy blocking a qualified judge who doesn’t look like wacko like Bork. I can’t see the votes being there for confirmation during this Congress and Trump will hammer that home for the Nov. 6 elections. No Dem will vote for confirmation; the three that voted for Gorsuch were released by Schumer after the Repubs had 51. This go around, J. McCain not there or Cindy a No, lame duck Flake said he would not vote for any Trump Judicial nomination so 49 votes and if that is the count, Collins and Murkowski likely will vote No. (Interesting that talking heads discuss McCain, Rand Paul, Collins and Murkowski but no mention of Flake, who, IMO is the key vote.)

At least with the neighbors I can run the trash out under the cover of darkness.
