for the last several weeks on facebook I have been getting videos of songs from the 50s and 60s. I am having a ball listening to them. I remember the words and the things that were happening in my life when they play

    • elliesmom says:

I like the Trisha Yearwood version of this better, but I can’t find her version with an embed option. But I love this song.

    • DeniseVB says:

Loving them too Helen. Note to self: *like* more FB posts instead of scrolling so fast.

The Turtles’ Happy Together, bittersweet, it was “our” song with with a “bad breakup 1967 guy” and my new husband in ’69, reminds me of my alternative universes. Oy, makes me think of both 😀

just found out kindle now has some of one of my favorite authors books. Doris Mortman. I have read and reread her books until they are not falling apart,
wish they would put Celeste DeBlais books and Evelyn Elizabeth Allen books on kindle. so far they have not

From far out in diversity left field; I was looking on one of my album shelves and saw this one from the 60’s. I though of Anthony’s comment awhile back about traveling to the Congo on music business. In the 60’s this was best played in the dark with some inhalation agents. The Latin Mass Congolese style.

    • Cisco says:

A very interesting treatment of the Mass. Well worth a listen.
Electric Prunes did Mass in F minor.
I think pretty revolutionary for its time and perhaps labeled as sacrilegious at that time.
35 minutes long but still interesting.

    • Anthony says:

Wow,! Haven’t heard those beat patterns since that project. Their drumming is actually part of their spiritual practice. Each pattern is a sacred rhythm of a chant to a demi god in the Yoruban religion. Nice treat – thanks!

Probably my lifetime favorite, and probably not the best version……

One of my uncles had a recording of that, the long version. I played it over and over. I think I was around 12 yrs old at the time.

    • Myiq2xu™ says:

The only way Mad Maxine loses an election is if they find bodies of missing black kids buried in her garden. And then she would only lose if she had a black primary challenger.

They talk about Trump supporters staying loyal no matter what Trump does or says, but the black community has never voted against one of their own.

  13. mothy2017 says:

Do any of you lawyer brains see a scenario where R v W is overturned. I keep checking to see if Althouse has played out the what if, but so far nada. My limited understanding is that it would require a state law in some way completely prohibiting abortion as opposed to late term. That would mean a woman 8 months in would need to have cause. A case might be expedited but not that first. How else besides funding would it get before the SC? Seems to me the pro abortion types would be better off focusing on state level politicians than Kavenaugh. Some very lib lawyers I know disagree with Roe reasoning. Even if a case made it that far wouldn’t the court likely issue something narrow case specific and not a full scale ban on abortion. Subsequent cases have used the right to privacy. I was just reading hollywierd’s tweets concerning the issue. Seems they all think a Trump judge will have some magical power and upon being seated all women’s rights will be revoked and it will be The Handmaids Tale. What state might pass a total ban?

    • elliesmom says:

Roe v. Wade was decided 7 to 2 by a court that was all men. Five of the justices who were in the majority were appointed by Republican presidents. One of the two dissenting justices had been appointed by a Democrat. The idea that white Republican men want to overturn Roe is not based on history. The Right to Life Movement belongs to women. Put a conservative woman on the bench, and then maybe the pro-abortion folks have something to worry about. Abortion has benefited men at least as much as it has women. Men can impregnate women and walk away unscathed. They aren’t in a hurry to change that. It’s ridiculous that so many women worry about old white men wanting to keep them barefoot and pregnant. Support for abortion is just as high, if not higher, for men as it is for women.

      • 1539days says:

Overturning Roe v. Wade would make abortion illegal in 0 states. Each state would probably have to pass a new ban.

        • mothy2017 says:

That is what confounds me. I know people that I think are very very smart who know Rv W is predicated on something made up. Iam going to be 52. None of my friends are going to get pregnant. They are going Debra Messing about abortion. I think they have guilt about actions they took and need the government to say it was okay. I don’t think it’s right to choose they are worried about I think its conscience.

        • elliesmom says:

While overturning Roe v Wade wouldn’t make abortion illegal, it would open the door for the abortion laws to become a patchwork. Before Roe there were some states where abortion was legal, and women often traveled to them to get abortions. While pro-abortion supporters refer to the trauma of back-alley abortions, there was also a discrepancy in a woman’s access based on whether she could afford to travel. Personally, I’d like women to live up to their pledge of “safe, legal, and rare”. If we did that, I think a lot of the opposition would quiet down.

      • mothy2017 says:

I was talking to an ex teacher who thinks we should promote same sex couplings to children to avoid teen pregnancy. He is almost entirely focused on boys. He thinks if we teach them in school to have a go with each other they will only engage girls when they are adults. Says we should encourage boys to act and dress as if they are girls He claims its feminism and that native Americans and the Greeks did it. He offers no proof. Somehow he doesn’t think it should be applied to minorities and invading hordes because oppressing their desires is a double whammy. I have not talked to him since Mollie Tibbetts. I don’t know him well but for some reason he hates straight white men. Ugh proggies. They never stop projecting.

. . .that Pope Francis knew about sanctions imposed on then-Cardinal McCarrick by Pope Benedict XVI but chose to repeal them.

I am sure those that worked to get Frankie the post will be out in droves to make this go away and tossing blame every-which way. However, in forcing Benedict out against church tradition, they opened the proverbial Pandora’s Box . It just may come back to bite them in the end.

    • mothy2017 says:

My tinfoil hat tells me something is awry here. Makes no sense to me. The church makes billions from governments all across the globe. Whyvwould they jeopardize that? I have to wonder if someone else wants that business. Catholic Charities run most refugee programs. Billions on the line. Who gets the money if contracts are pulled. A religious group hurting children should not be accessing families with kids.
Who steps in to fill the void? A smell something rotten.

      • mothy2017 says:

Right now where I live the major hospitals have abandoned mental health care. It is almost all done out patient( save for the most severe) under the auspices of Catholic Charities. They have two campuses. It is big business. I really think someone wants a slice.

Any suggestions for a cheap tablet. My kindle is dying. I need a light 10 inch tablet. I need no bells or whistles. The kindle is cheap. I can get brand new with a 20% discount for under 120. I am just sick of amazon. My fire won’t stay connected. It didn’t happen until warranty ran out. Hmmmm? I need something at least 10 inches that I can throw in my backpack. I have a desktop and at least two laptops. I do business on them. I really just need something I can read on. Something I can lose. CNEt is all over the place with “cheap” recommendations. How is 1100 cheap. Walmart keeps spamming me with the RCA Cambio with windows 10 for 87 dollars. How is windows 10 included at that price? I know next to nothing about computers but I loathe windows. I might go up to 500 if I could have it for a few years. Else i’ll just get a new bezos wapo kindle.

Any interest in the new 9.7inch iPad?

      • mothy2017 says:

I don’t keep any financial info on my kindle. I am out all day. There is free wifi everywhere. I use a sinch sack. Not even a backpack. I want something cheap I can just throw in. I only need to keep up on email. Phone is way to small and I never have my readers. I read blogs when I am killing time or download a movie when I take two hour bus rides. The kindle 10 inch is perfect. I am just annoyed that as soon as my warranty expired the wifi drops. Full price its only 150 I just resent it seems like I have to replace that and bezos is an ass. I have to replace for my sanity. I thought maybe there was something out there I just missed. 150 is really cheap and I get 20% off. I can’t justify an ipad for what I need.

Ugh. Not having A/C in our whole house is not fun. No cooking as it is too hot. So tv dinners or take out and we are already sick of it. Messed up sleeping with noisy portable air conditioners so we are taking “naps” (nodding off sitting around). Hubby is Mr Grumpy as his spaces in the house are too big to cool with little a/c’s and he does not coop up in smaller rooms and stay still at all. He was supposed to travel this coming week but won’t leave me in a “hot house” alone. He also wants to supervise the installation of the new HVAC systems. The heating is natural gas and cooling is electric and he decided he wanted some duct work done too to eliminate “hot and cold spots”. It has turned into a bigger deal than even I thought it would be. So I read the internet! And watch movies.

  31. Lulu says:

I’m getting the feeling that the entire John McCain is dead! is another of the media and Never-Trumpers PR campaigns. If it had been anyone but that old crook McCain vs Trump narrative it would be just a blip that a terminally ill very old man died. His selfishness and entitlement NOT giving up his Senate seat so his constituents could have representation is going to be continued apparently by his selfish and entitled very rich wife who put up with his shit. The man, the myth and the Maverick is a bunch of horse-shit. I’m sorry for his children’s loss as they didn’t get to pick their father but as for the rest everyone knew he was a gone last year. He did not act like a mature adult in his passing this past many months so bye John and that’s all I will think on it.

  32. Lulu says:

I don’t read Tw@tter much because most of it is just garbage or censored mess. I do read Thomas Wictor when I think about it. Occasionally. His mom was from Mexico, he lived in Venezuela as a child, and he speaks some hard and graphic truths about Mexico in overnight threads. Graphic, hideous and informative. I have been exposed to a tiny bit of Aztec-ia and cultural underclass of Mexico mostly verbally via LaRaza or through law enforcement discussions here in Texas. According to Thomas I don’t know squat. It is a million times worse. And Dems, GOPe open borders, and globalists are importing one of (if not the most) violent and hideous cultures into the US on purpose. The downplaying of the extremely violent murder of young women and the mindless mysogony (the women participate too) by Dems is one of the most disturbing political acts/plans I have ever seen. Read his thread if you want to know what cartels and the people who work for them and put up with that horror are doing. Incidentally Sarah Hoyt https://pjmedia.com/trending/the-left-has-a-death-wish/ writes The Left Has a Death Wish. They want to be dead and they want us all dead first. I really think they get a thrill from seeing non-elites murdered horribly and why they don’t care about Chicago and inner cities. This needs to be stated and thrown in their sick-ass faces. And fought for all we are worth. Build the wall!

  33. Myiq2xu™ says:

    Read the whole thread.

I’m guessing there is a strong correlation between Palin Haters and NeverTrumpers. I know that both Trump and Palin drive the Left batshit insane.

    • Lulu says:

There is a jealousy problem. They think their non-elite, non-clerisy, no gobble-gook way of speaking means they are stupid. Of course both Palin and Trump are very intelligent, much more so than the creditialed (purchased by mom and dad) class. But the real source is the risk-taking both Palin and Trump has engaged in very successfully. The P-haters and N’er Trumpers are almost always lazy as hell. Magazine writers sitting on their butts, sneering academics, goof “actors” who work 4 months every two years, rich trust-funders or hangers on of rich hubbies/wives, screw-off brown-nosing public servants, etc. They resent the hell out of Palin and Trump making different choices, risking everything, calculating the odds, studying up and working their asses off while they chose the easy, safe, do as little as possible to slide by, conformity of their assigned (they think!) social class. The resentment just oozes out of them.
