Anybody have any suggestions for quick last minute appetizers?

My sisters planned a family event at my brother’s house…….I’ve already hosted one this week. I was informed yesterday afternoon to bring a cake….did that yesterday. Last night told to bring drinks. Overnight I got a text informing me I needed to bring appetizers 🙄

I’m thinking of buying prepare dips and some crackers. I’m so over this 🙄 They all fly out tomorrow.

Any ideas are appreciated, I only have a couple hours, must be quick and easy.

    • DeniseVB says:

Our last minute go-to appetizers are a box of those pigs in a blanket from the local store’s freezer section, toothpicks and a bottle of honey mustard for a dipping sauce. The ladies will roll their eyes at such a cop out, but the men will appreciate noshing on real food. Trust me 😀

      • Somebody says:

Too funny Denise. Hubby said frozen pigs in a blanket…..I said my sisters would die…..he said who cares, all the guys will love them. Then I read your comment and ROFL! Hubby says, see Denise agrees 😂

      • Lulu says:

Little Smokies in jarred barbecue sauce with toothpicks. I add chucks of canned pineapple to stretch it out sometimes. This has no fiddling with dough. Another “dump” appetizer is Tex-Mex layer dip with pinto beans, canned corn, salsa, green onions, grated cheese, pickled jalapeno, topped with lime crema and black olives and served with sturdy tortilla chips. Very fast to throw together for a mob.

      • elliesmom says:

A jar of chili sauce, a cup of grape jelly and a bag of frozen meatballs. Melt the jelly in the chili sauce and dump in the bag of meatballs.

        • Lulu says:

That sounds strangely good. I’ll have to try that one. My mom made ham roll ups with shaved salty ham rolled around tiny slivers of cream cheese with minced chives. So good. My grandmother made little cream biscuits with ham and creole mustard for appetizers but her biscuits were really, really good and tender.

          • DeniseVB says:

Rotel and velveeta cheese, melted in my tiny crockpot, yum. 😉

          • Lulu says:

Rotel and Velveta is one of our traditional dishes for Christmas Eve. My “kids” say they “need” it. For hubby it is Rumaki which has some unexplained significance to his childhood. Probably parents Tiki parties from the ’50s or something.

          • mothy2017 says:

If you haven’t yet added it to your kitchen I love my airfryer. Little clean up. I buy frozen precooked angus burgers from Sam’s. They are so yummy. Like a really good fast food burger.

    • Mt.Laurel says:

Those cooked and peeled hardboiled eggs you can buy make it easy to prepare deviled eggs with minimal fuss and they always seem to disappear off the platter ac if by magic.

      • Lulu says:

A can of cheap salmon, bones and skin removed, shredded in a bowl. 8 ounces softened cream cheese, 1/2 teaspoon liquid smoke, stir together very well and form into a ball. Roll in sliced almonds and serve cold with crackers. Tell everyone it is smoked salmon. My sons will eat this stuff with a spoon. LOL.

        • lateblum says:

That sounds great. Now I know what to bring to the next soirée. I hosting today because yesterday’s bash was rained out. I was up clearing the drains in the back courtyard at 6:45 this a.m. then out to get 56 lbs of ice, then making a second pasta salad for my non-dairy guests. Can’t wait til this is over…

    • mothy2017 says:

Raw vegies w/hummus (can not spell crudite?)
      Fruit and cheese
Bacon loads and loads of bacon

    • Anthony says:

Quickie: pan seared asparagus (5 min), cut into 1-2 in Spears wrapped in strip of Nova Scotia lox or smoked salmon. Refrigerate, serve cold. Delicious.

      • Somebody says:

OMG some of that stuff sounds yummy. I’ve made the meatballs and little smokies in my crockpot before.

I went super lazy, bought multiple kinds of crackers, pita chips, flat bread and pretzel rods. Bought grocery store tzatziki and humus (no clue how it taste, usually make my own). I also bought an artichoke and cheese dip I plan to spike with bacon, I’ve done that before it’s good. I got spinach dip, Publix brand is good. I will probably spike it with water chestnuts and bacon. I bought garlic and herb boursin cheese and last but not least, Publix seafood cheese dip, which is addicting.

Got my cake decorated, this shindig is dubbed birthday palooza. We have 4 family members with birthdays next week…..the 4th, 5th, 6th and 8th. I just need to grab some trays and spreaders. Gifts are all wrapped, etc. I have an hour and 15 minutes before I have to leave…..still have to shower, put on makeup and make some attempt with my hair 😉 I’m just waiting for a thunderstorm to pass right now.

I know I went the completely lazy route, but I didn’t with the luncheon and high tea I hosted for the ladies last Wednesday. I was supposed to just show up for this one 🙄

On second thought instead of fussing with my hair, maybe I should just pull it back in a pony tail and grab my MAGA hat out of the closet. The California crew would just love that 🤣 Too bad I don’t have enough Trump 45 glasses for everyone 😋

    • Constance says:

Buy a block of cream cheese, small shrimp, bottle of cocktail sauce and crackers or really good bread. Put the block of cream cheese on a plate, cover with seafood cocktail sauce, rinse the tiny shrimp and dump them on top of the cocktail sauce and put out the crackers in a basket. Also best to cut into it or people will be afraid to.

Nations prosper when their people prosper.

      And individual prospers by:
      1) Can-do attitude
      2) Diligence
      3) Continuous Learning
      4) Trustworthiness, motivated by love for one’s neighbor, as the Lord commanded.

The primary job of the Government (We the People) is to defend each other’s Life, Liberty, and Property.

Leftist/Socialist/Communist stifle Liberty. Good luck with that. See Venezuela.

They always speak of the greedy wealthy, but never speak of how to create wealth, wanting only to spend the wealth of others. They destroy the wealth creators, plunging people into desperate poverty.

      • mothy2017 says:

Leftists patronize. I am almost 52 raising a child doing by all empirical standards very well. I have for years involved a therapist. I can ‘t fuck this up. I am from one of the poorest hardest hit cities in America. (Said it before Clairton- City of Prayer https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clairton,_Pennsylvania was the setting for the Deer Hunter). I am gay lived in a few places. My part time job acts like they are doing me a favor by being soooooo gay friendly. Huh? What? I almost 52 and you think you are giving me “space” to be me.
Bwahahaha. I was snorting heroin with Jean-Michel Basquiat’s girlfriend in 1989. I loved buying it on the streets of lower Manhattan. It was the thrill. Like a scary roller coaster. . I attended Midnight Madness for months when I stopped on my own from a powerful drug. I sat up many nights with Lou Reed. Diners. I tended bar late 80’s early 90’s in Philly and New York. I saw so many people die from AIDS. I was out on Long Island on 9/11, but I smelled it when I was home. I have had two open heart surgeries. I backpacked alone through Europe.
A mammoth corporation patronizes me. No thanks. I have actually been told, unconvingly that its okay to be me.
        Gee thanks. All I needed
Big companies do the same with African Americans.

  4. Mt.Laurel says:

Well , as I predicted the local MSMs have indeed found a way to provide little reminders of McCain and the last leg of the never ending funeral procession by impeding their little takes in traffic and weather notices.

Road closures, what you need to know about the burial of you know who and places you can watch the procession make its way to Annapolis.

Best not to try and take route 50 to the shore today as security is tight and there will be detours and long waits as dozens wait to get a glimpse of you know who.

Detailed route being taken to Annapolis for you know who’s burial. You can stream live or use the interactive map.

The heat is on but will rain finally stay away for the burial of the most important you know who of the century.

Will Mother Nature finally shine some sun on you know who or will there be more cloud bursts. See the details in our weather app and watch live in our news app.

Be glad you’re not in Chicago. Here BLM plans to shut down both sides of the interstate as well as O’Hare airport tomorrow. Despite it being illegal and directly opposed to any possible good will or encouragement from The People they claim they want to win over. They totally suck. Even the SJWs I know are angry about the plan. (I’m happy to report.)

Did you guys see how Fox shamed a Cosby actor for working at Trader Joe’s. So crude. I think he would have been treated with more respect if he was on welfare. He still acts. Cashier between gigs. I am doing less than 40 hours a month at a coffee house. It’s nice bonus money. I have withdrawn all I can this year. Working provides some structure and I am not spending while working. The pup cooks her own breakfast, gets up for school. I am looking for something else, but I have had people I went to high school with look at me with pity. I am nearly debt free. Do not care. I quite enjoy working with kids. I get to talk to them about their plans. Navigate school. One young lady was bemoaning that she wasn’t moving up. I talked to her about a lateral move. She actually wants to work in retail? Very hard worker. Was not groomed for college. (She is from my broke assed town where I lived as a kid)Took me working with her on resume and cover letter to get her a management job with a big box store in two weeks. She would have continued trying to inch up the corporate ladder. Would have taken so much longer. Years. Some times you need to take a chance. Refreshing because some times these young adults heed my words. I am saying close to what their parents are. How cool would it be if you got a job at Trader Joe’s and your co worker was a sitcom star? Look at it from a wonderful perspective. I am a 52 year old gay man from poverty raising a child and I lived in Manhattan, Philly, London. I was supposed to follow a boring track. I didn’t. Wrote my own script. What a gift to inform these kids that they are making choices.

Was there a time when The Meg was endeared to the American people? She is not John Jr.
I had almost no opinion of her before the funeral tour. Now I strongly dislike her. These super smart elitists who script everything aren’t very bright. Had she exhibited decorum I might have empathized with her. The dignity of silence. Nope now I think fat vindictive bitch .
It was all planned to hurt Trump. Everyone sees it. I was a lit major in college. You read so much. The classics are classic because they have stood the test of time. I guess all that is rejected by progs. They place no stock in the past. I find all of their epic moves which are written to be bad hollywierd scripts. The Piss Dossier. Really comes down to they think the common man is gullible. Zero respect for the individual.

Do you think they sent McCain straight to hell or was he allowed to hang around and watch his funerals first? I bet He thinks hell recreated the Hanoi Hilton for him to spend eternity in, but he’s gonna freak out when he gets there and it says “Trump Tower” over the entrance.

  13. mothy2017 says:

I am considering attending #WalkAway. My best friend from college lives in Baltimore. We have not seen each other in almost 20 years. She and her husband are progs ( he was running against Mosley, but dropped out). I am trying to be frugal through 2018 but got a 14 month no interest card. I can pay it off january 2. I just need to run the numbers. I very well may if I can keep it under 2. I’ll take a bus. It takes an hour to get to the airport – you have to be 2 hours early then from airport to hotel another hour. Bus is 5 hours and if I go overnight I can drink vodka with just released cons. Yes I have done greyhound before. Hotel, bus, and buying gifts for my friends kids plus bacon martini’s at Bad Decisions in Baltimore. If I can do it under 2,000 I might consider.

    • mothy2017 says:

Greyhound is so cheap. Would cost me less than 100 to go Pitts-DC-Baltimore- pitts. Four hotel nights, gifts, cabs and spending. Can I do that on under 2000? I have no idea where to look for hotel in Baltimore ( Bad Decisions is on Fleet St?) or DC. I will likely just meet my friend for drinks, give her kids a token gift( 3 x 100) and return to hotel. Do not want to relive the 80’s. If I can find decent hotel cheap I might take the train. I love amtrak but it seems I’d have to go Dc Baltimore- dc- pittsburgh. Flying means getting to the airport. I don’t drive which means 3 busses. I’d rather pick up a gallon of OJ and a big bottle of Nikolai vodka and get loopy with parolees.

      • Somebody says:

Generally speaking hotels in the burbs are cheaper. I’ve never stayed in Baltimore. I would think finding a hotel near a metro station would work for DC, not sure if the metro goes to Baltimore. BTW $100 is too much for a token gift.

        • mothy2017 says:

          Friendship is not calculated.
We are so different, but in so many ways by being my friend she profoundly changed me. I owe her my moving forward with who I am. Shayla (pup) would not have had a chance if I had not had her friendship.
One night I was walking back from Hepburns (not a guy’s bar) with your typical lesbian. I put her in her car walked into WaWa got a cheese hoagie, a box of chocholate donuts and a USA Today. I walked out and there was gun fire. Locust Street in filthy. I made no choice. I just had a woman shot in the head. She had holes spewing blood. I was instinct held her in my arms with my hands against the holes in her head. The police decided to pick us up together and put us in a paddy wagon. I got the joy of a ride from a mother gurgling her own blood she can’t die she has three children.
I got home around 7 walked into my best friends room with tears in my eyes. I said I cannot sleep alone. I cannot talk. She let me be there with no questions asked. I am always in her debt.
Bullet in the head lady is alive and a great grandmother.

I’d like to give the woman who I thank a decent gift for her kids.
