#BlackFriday Open Thread

So I went out into this madness, but it wasn’t that bad. I intended just to pick up a steam mop for myself, but of course got dragged into 15 more shops than I planned to. Spent $20 on lottery, and I’m SURE we’re going to win this time. If so, I’m quitting my job without notice.

The best part of the day was getting home to find the Elf on The Shelf costumes I ordered before Thanksgiving came in AND they fit on Skelf, my Halloween Skeleton. A new tradition is born!

What’s going on in your neck of the woods?

I LOVE Skelf on the shelf : )

All quiet here in Raleigh, NC. I did some shopping at craft stores and the mall. The mall (NOT Crabtree, that’s always nuts) was had more people than usual, but it wasn’t mobbed.

I want to go to the Christmas Carousel craft show tomorrow, but it’s supposed to be cold and raining. I ended up with bronchitis one year, pulling a similar stunt. Probably, I will go Sunday.

    • Woke Lola says:

Better safe than sorry. Here’s hoping your weather holds up on Sunday!

      • Miranda says:

Unfortunately, it looks like I inherited my grandmother’s ability to develop bronchitis at the slightest provocation. It’s supposed to be pretty and in the 60’s on Sunday, so I’ll wait.

    #SkelfontheShelf is wonderful!

Today I ordered some raw turkey cat food from an Indianapolis company, Raw Paws Pet Food. Let’s hope the third time is the charm. Customer service was super.

  7. SHV says:

I make chicken/turkey cat food at home and freeze it in small portions. If you feed cats with home made cat food, it’s necessary to add Taurine. Taurine is an essential dietary substance for cats and possibly Passerine birds, FWIW.

No Black Friday shopping for me, but dh decided to go out to the country because a tractor and feed store was having a saie on 40 lb bags of black oil sunflower seeds for the birdies. He thought nobody would be there, but he couldn’t even get in the parking lot ! Got the seed, no fights 🙂

      • DeniseVB says:

When my kids were young, there was no Black Friday. It was more like a “freaking 4 day school holiday” so the day after Thanksgiving was let’s go to the Mall and see the decorations, a mall movie and Santa, or I’ll kill you all 😉 It grew from there, by that time we had video movies and gameboys and stuff. Good times !

Europeans are fools if they don’t fight back.

“Europe must be stronger… and win more sovereignty,” the French president said, demanding EU member states surrender national sovereignty to Brussels over “foreign affairs, migration, and development” in addition to “an increasing part of our budgets and even fiscal resources”.

Am I completely off my rocker? What was WWI all about ? Or the war of the Roses? Or any number of other wars? And let’s not forget why the Nazis were defeated. Or at least why I thought they were beaten. Didn’t the countries of Europe want their own nations and language and culture and customs and government?
I really am confused by this push for “all ——> one. Is it so that only a few can have control and convince them this is what they want? Is this the New World Order that was so carefully formulated by PNAC?

Skelf looks like he would jump up and play heavy metal Christmas music!!!!

I couldn’t bring myself to go Black Friday shopping, I think my food coma extended into prolonged lethargy, and I was feeling so calm, smiling and relaxed, I just couldn’t do it.
I might make it to the Farmers Market, tomorrow, but that’s just a maybe. 😎

I did get out and dust off my pizzelle maker, and found my aunt Honey ‘s recipe. The old Italian one that calls for 12 eggs. I better shop for cookie tins, soon.🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪

    • Somebody says:

Hubby wants pizzelles. His grandma used to make them. I don’t have a fancy electric maker, I have his grandmother’s iron that was used over a flame. It’s cast iron and has really long handles, it could double as a weapon. I was just looking at electric ones today, what kind do you have? Is it non-stick?

I guess I could use the antique one, it would double as an arm workout 🙄

      • swanspirit says:

My grandmother, who was actually born in Italy, had an iron one. Mine is old but electric, I found a picture of it.

I am not exactly sure what year I bought it, it was a long time ago, but I can tell you this, I prefer the electric one. Once you get started making them, it goes really fast. Just keep the Crisco spray handy. 🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪

Anthony I owe you an email! Have been in America since Halloween, far longer than expected, my colleagues are now joking that I’m going to stay for Christmas. On the bright side, I was invited to Venezuelan thanksgiving! No politics were discussed and the food was off the hook.

    • Anthony says:

Awesome! Sorry we missed each other (if you were in NY). Greatest thing about email is that we can correspond when we have the time for thoughtful dialogue in a busy life. Talk soon. XOXOXO

And our trial went good. Defense counsel literally gave up and waived closing argument, which is something I’ve never seen before. We nail the guys ass to the wall on punitives on Monday and then hopefully I go home! I think the judge likes me: twice now he has asked if I’ll be there the next day so he can say goodbye before I get on the plane.

She will never shut up with her lies and propaganda. Just go away.

“Hillary Clinton accused President Donald Trump of having a long “streak of racism” and “the whole package of bigotry” in an interview with The Guardian.
“This is a person who believes in very little, but he does have visceral responses to what goes on in the world around him. He does have a strong streak of racism that goes back to his early years,” Clinton reportedly told the outlet in the interview published on Friday. “I include his anti-immigrant tirades because he characterizes immigrants in very racially derogatory ways, but he was Islamophobic, he was anti-women, he really had the whole package of bigotry that he was putting on offer to those who were intrigued and attracted to him.”

Have you ever wondered why proggies love islam? Makes no sense. I recently had a conversation with an old college friend. She fully supports blasphemy laws. Huh? Post graduate urban just bought a 900,000 home. Kids go to private school. Has a nanny. She and her children are highly medicated. She hates Trump supporters. Has this juvenile world view. Dems are good republicans are evil. Its cultish. Her attitude towards blacks is insulting. Almost paternal. Baltimore riots were excused because of evil white man. Huh? Doesn’t think the average African American can manage their own life. Really believes getting ID is a burden. To me all of her views drip with racism. Not sure why but all the people of that ilk despise white working class. Bitter clingers and deplorable are exactly how they view the world outside of the city. I think islam fits with that. They have this fake sense of superiority. Embracing the desert cult allows them to feel benevolent as well as judge those who have misgivings. . I was flabbergasted that she believes if you insult islam and get killed you get what’s coming. I said my faith is mocked all the time. That’s different?????

    • 1539days says:

I think it’s an adolescent view of things. Their White middle-class upbringings are boring and tedious to them because they had plenty of time to be dissatisfied for what they didn’t have instead of being grateful for what they had, So, now things like Islam seem exotic and ancient and therefore more meaningful than what they’ve always known.

      • mothy2017 says:

I think it odd though that since obama came on the stage that so many have seemed to embrace this group think. Any progressive idea is completely embraced. No evaluation. With my friends I think some of it is finding out life’s a bitch. Firmly believe progs are unhappy people and blame the outer world for their discontent I mean watch msnbc or cnn. Miserable.

    • lateblum says:

I think many embrace Islam and patronize blacks because they never associated with anyone from other cultures or backgrounds. They’ve been isolated and pampered and believe no one ever really survives in a world in which they have to put forth real effort.

Even dd#1 said to me that even though she disagrees with me often, she values my personal and professional history because I actually have lived and worked with and on behalf of many different cultures. Also I grew up underprivileged (poor) and still I have been fairly successful. We had no money, no connections, nothing except a family that valued education, discipline, tenacity and hard work. We lived in a *diverse* neighborhood where, for the most part, everyone treated everyone else with respect and the expectation that we’d all do our best to succeed. And for the most part we did.
I have little time to discuss the racist attitudes of people who think they are the Florence Nightingales to the black community. They call me racist because I disagree with their about many things. All the while they exhibit the bigotry of low expectations of others.
Gotta go. We’re having another thanksgiving tradition this afternoon so I must scoot….

Deal with Mexico would make asylum seekers wait outside U.S. border

The Trump administration has won the support of Mexico’s incoming government for a plan to remake U.S. border policy by requiring asylum seekers to wait in Mexico while their claims move through U.S. courts, according to Mexican officials and senior members of president-elect Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s transition team.

My Black Friday was a trip to the hardware store for plumbing parts.

Yeah, the toilet water supply line sprung a leak hours before we had nine people over for Thanksgiving dinner. Hardware store was closed, so I jury-rig temporary fixed it with plumber’s putty, black electrical tape, and naval macrame.

    • John Denney says:

Sample naval macrame I’m talking about. It’s on a canoe paddle here, but on board ship, it’s often done to hand rails. The technique will work with line as small as dental floss. I used roast trussing twine on the leaky pipe.

      • lateblum says:

Brilliant. My (ex)husband would’ve loved that! He was the son of a plumber who did official plumbing wherever he worked, but at home is was Rube .goldberg all the way.
        lol

        • John Denney says:

It was the water heater a few days ago.

My wife was saying we’d have to replace it because it’s 25-30 years old, distraught because it’s expensive.

I had a look; same deal. Just the inlet pipe gasket had degraded over the years. Couldn’t find a new gasket anywhere (which should have cost about 75 cents) so I splurged and got a new inlet pipe for 12 bucks, which came with new gaskets.

Probably good for another 20-30 years now. 😉
