This #CovCath thing is SO American!

mw-hc333_kentuc_20190119175129_zhY’all might have seen this one erupt over the weekend. Twitter was afire, and I swear, I think the left used this like Heather Ledger used Diazepam to take the edge off coming down from Oxycodone. You know, what with the Mueller deflation and all.

This is a scene which is repeated over and over in recent years. It’s so formulaic it’s almost like a recipe now. It starts like this:

  1.  White people (WP) are somewhere existing.
  2. A member of an aggrieved demographic (MAD) is existing nearby.
  3. Said MAD is so married to the narrative of oppression running wild through their mind that they perceive said WP existing as an act of oppression.
  4. MAD gets aggressively confrontational.
  5. When WP are not provoked immediately, a sacred symbol comes under attack.

This story is American-squared, because the MAD wasn’t even perceiving himself to be oppressed–he perceived another MAD, of a completely different category, was being oppressed, when really they were just being assholes. So he thought he’d walk his prayer party over right into the middle of it and beat his drum right up in a 16 year old boy’s face. That’s a real man for you. A Marine, no less. The fact that he was Native American AND a veteran Marine was pumped up over and over again by people who usually are busying themselves with the taunting of troops. Then it all started to get debunked as longer videos showing the totality of circumstances became available.

Here’s the real story, though: Both these MADs and the largely white, verified allies they have on Twitter were all triggered by the presence of so many MAGA hats. That’s it. Their reactions, both on the scene and on Twitter, was not unlike the followers of ISIS. I’m not sure what’s wrong with the mind that can be triggered by an inanimate object, but I know it exists and that unchecked, it will increasingly escalate behavior.

I think our response has to be #NationalWearYourMAGAHatDay. I’ve got mine ready. Place your bets for planning dates in comments! This is an open thread.

That’s it, all it was. The MAGA hats. Then white boys, Catholic got added to the mix. That’s all the “Justine Sacco” twitter mob needed to go for blood.

I thought I was so clever. Black t shirt, red lettering, deplorable in Russian. Weirdly, both Hillary and Trump supporters thought it dissed the other. All went well until it didn’t. If we ever have a meet up I will regale you with details.

Good post. Everything you said is true.

Plus the fact that they have to work up some fear and hatred toward Catholics. I mean, we wouldn’t want to see Amy on the court now, would we?

    Thank you, Lola.

My first thoughts were about the chaperones. Where the hell were they when this was going down? Looking for an answer to that question led me to watching lots of video of the kids and what I found out were their tormentors. A Facebook friend posted a nasty condemnation of the boys early in the day. While she’s suffering from massive TDS, she’s usually very supportive of young people. I commented that things might not be what they seemed, linked the full 1:45 of video and Scott Adam’s apology to the boys. I was rained on with insults. She owes me a giant apology, but I don’t expect to get it. My first thought was “Into the Bin of the Unfriended” you go. Like Diamond and Silk’s “Bowl of Stupid”, it’s bottomless. But I appear to be the only person who ever calls her out so I have to think about this.

I’m willing to buy a MAGA hat, wear a tee shirt, whatever. When grown men and women take their political differences out on young people, that’s my red line in the sand. I hope the kids get a good lawyer, and they sue all of the adults who should have known better for lots and lots of money. I’d like to see their school included as a defendant in the suit. I’d never let those teachers chaperone anything again. If nothing else, they should have been in close enough proximity to the boys to immediately be able to get word back to the school that the boys had behaved in a way that was a tribute to their parents and the school. They betrayed the trust we give to the people who teach our kids. They need to be held accountable, too.

You don’t owe her anything, and she’s so deep in her anger that she won’t learn anything. Dump her and move on, would be my advice.

As I said in the other thread, I have to be careful because I need people to be willing to be references for me. I’ll be glad when I retire and can say what I want in venues other than here.

I wouldn’t bother on your friend. I unfollow “friends” who get bossy with their politics. Life’s too short and #YOLO.

    • John Denney says:

I’d say don’t abandon your friend to the echo chamber. Be a rock of truth to which she could cling in the midst of a raging sea of deception.

Shame on those bishops! They are a disgrace!

It just keeps getting better, NOT. It’s an InfoWars story, but all true as I saw it play out on Twitter. Paul Joseph Watson wrote it…..

Great post. This has been the perfect example of fake news and the biased assumptions and hate from the left, and the sad reality of how quickly many on the right fold on any hint of disapproval.

  14. Myiq2xu™ says:

In terms of villains, the CCHS kids were almost too perfect for the Democrats’ narrative.

    1. 99% white
    2. 100% male
    3. Catholic
    4. Private school
    5. From a Southern state
    6. Wearing MAGA hats.

The only things missing are guns, sexual orientation and global warming. If the old Indian guy was gay and was complaining that the kids had set a garbage can on fire to keep warm when one of the kids shot him with an assault rifle, then you would have the perfect Democrat villains.

Sorry I stepped on your post, Lola. I was just trying to make sure there was a fresh thread up before I went to bed. I didn’t expect anyone else to be posting at that time of night/morning.

I agree, nice to have two great posts in one day.

This may be go – HuuuuuH? from the get go. It just made no sense. As someone who went to Catholic for 12 years, some things do not really change. Most who would go on this type of field trip are not doing so to party or act up. I am sure the young ones were warned there were be counter protesters and to respect and just avoid confrontation. The students may also not have expected people to behave so poorly toward them. Especially supposed adults. I am sure part of their reaction was being stunned by such poor manners and vile speech.

I do not find any of these adults like mr look at me my annoying drumming in people’s faces and the kids they dragged with them brave. They are sorry ass cowards who picked on what they perceived to be easy targets.
