RIP Patrick Caddell

Pat Caddell died yesterday from complications from a stroke. He started out as a pollster for Jimmy Carter. In recent years he began to see problems within the Democrat party, much like many of us. In 2016 he was one of the first political pros to recognize that Donald Trump was a serious candidate who was riding a cresting wave.

He will be missed.

I felt so bad when I heard the news. Surprised too. I didn’t know he was sick.

He was one of the last decent democrats left and he will definitely be missed.

    RIP Mr. Caddell.

I’m not sure I believe this.

He’s not even trying to hide it any longer.

Pope Francis: World Government Must Rule U.S. ‘For Their Own Good’

Pope Francis told the Italian newspaper La Repubblica that the United States of America has “a distorted vision of the world” and Americans must be ruled by a world government, as soon as possible, “for their own good.”

The Pope made the observation in an interview with La Repubblica reporter Eugenio Scalfari.

I have always respected a person who believes in a supreme supernatural being, but any organized religious group is a man-made construct and is subject to all of the sins of human beings. Given all of the abuses of the Catholic church and now with the current Pope, I continue to find it difficult to understand why people aren’t leaving in droves. There needs to be a Walk Away campaign and an intervention for American Catholics. This is one time when “Do it for the children” is more than a syrupy slogan.

      • Constance says:

I walked away years ago. I miss it but I won’t be going back.

      • Myiq2xu™ says:

There are lots of “Cafeteria Catholics” out there these days. They go to church for the social aspects but they pick and choose what doctrines they follow – like the official church positions on abortion and homosexuality.

Once upon a time, questioning the infallibility of a Pope was like drawing cartoons of Moe Hom Mad is today.

      • 49erDweet says:

I think this has been going on for awhile. My large church (three campuses, six services) has at least 200 new visitors each week. Many ‘sign’ themselves during corporate prayer, which is sort of a tell, Both parking lots are almost empty during scheduled mass times at the two closest missions. Change is afoot.

    • swanspirit says:

For someone who was supposedly known for their humility, the worm sure has turned. What kind of hubris, gives him the gall to suggest that the United States should be ruled by a world government? How about you get your own house in order, Francis, first, because it isn’t looking too good here of late; before you start telling any other country what to do, much less the United States of America.

    • John Denney says:

Inquiring minds might ask how exactly our view is distorted.

Our view is that all men are created equal. Is that distorted?
Endowed by our Creator with certain unalienable Rights, among which are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness. Is that distorted?
We unite to defend everyone’s Person, Property, and Liberty. Sometimes that requires force of arms, to which we also have a Right. Is that distorted?
We value a can-do attitude. Is that distorted?
We value diligence. Is that distorted?
We value continuous learning. Is that distorted?
We value trustworthiness. Is that distorted?

So sad about Pat Caddell, RIP. 🙁 I so enjoyed him during 2016 as part of the political insiders on Sunday evenings with Harris Faulkner. He was an old school democrat and a patriot to his core.

    • taw46 says:

The Political Insiders ran every Sunday night from 2012 through the 2016 election, Faulkner’s best show. With Pat Caddell, Doug Schoen, and John LeBoutillier. Once I stumbled across this show, long before Trump entered the race, I never missed it. They all three saw what was happening to our country and were not afraid to speak out. And they, especially Pat, saw how and why Trump would win. RIP, Pat Caddell.

I tried to post this yesterday but i only had my phone i can’t type on it and have no idea what password is.
Once my hangover recedes i have a nice story about the bartender from Trump International.
I did buy 3 very orang e t shirts with thd word Trump. He has to be the funniest most masterful troll ever. The gift shop can’t have anything political but an orange t-shirt is genius.

Another loss, but NYT manages to make this into tabloid fodder. R.I.P Jackie’s sister who never was as popular as her sister and stuff.

    • swanspirit says:

I remember her, and reading that she in no way wanted her life to be in the public eye, and she did a very good job of keeping it that way. Kudos to her.

  12. Mothy67 says:

Three house bourbon and sodas was 94 dollars. I guess they were something like 28 a pop, because DC has a booze tax. To be fair these were very generous pours.
My second visit was by myself. A young black woman behind the bar. A single mom. She said hospitality is her only choice with a child. Said its the best job she’s ever had. Pay is well over the minimum. Great benefits. Tips are hit or miss. People stop in because of The Donald. A 30 dollar cocktail can frighten a tourist but another person will drop 10 grand on a bottle of wine so it evens out. I killed about four hours there. Staff was amazing. I had to beg the doorman to stop being so polite every time i went out to smoke. He laughed and gave me a Nat Sherman. Best cigarette ever.
So i was drunk. Sleep (read pass out) on the train get up at my stop, leave all my bags. Yesterday i go downtown to get my bags around noon. Amtrak does not open until 6. What to do on a Saturday afternoon in Pittsburgh. I drank wearing an orange Trump shirt. Had so many conversations with real people. An obvious gay man broadcasting Trump support. Most did not support him but they spoke WITH me not at me. We talked amicably. Several said thank God the she demon did not win. So i wake up this morning after another marathon of day drinking. I have my luggage but no wallet. I was beginning my self loathing. How at 52 can anyone be so pathetic. Getting ready to call all of the credit card companies. Needed my charger which was in my shopping bag from Trump hotel. I carried that because I had checked bags in SC. My wallet was in that bag. I had taken about 75 thousand in credit to SC. I was going to leave it all with my sister so she had a cushion. She wouldn’t take so i thought fuck I attempted to not be a selfish asshole and i screw it all up. How my wallet got in the gift bag confounds me. I took a cab home so I knew i paid. I was blotto drunk. This entire excursion was about giving my sibling life. On my watch baby sister was not going to drown in poor me. I can’t fix cancer, but I can take her to a place where she can at least walk outside. Pittsburgh is all hills. I bought 3 orange shirts on my way home. I am such a cliche, dolly loving freak. I am looking to buy time for my sis. I would give everything I own. She won’t takea dime. One of the 30 dollar Trump t-shirts was for her. I came home beyond intoxicated and put my wallet with her shirt. Gross, corny. I was smashed. How I roll.

  13. Mothy67 says:

When i was young and I told my parents I was gay they hated me. They were ashamed of me. My older brother and younger sister were not having it. They said give him grief you will never see grandkids again. They meant it.
Almost 40 years later i take a train with my sister and all i can think of is Bread. I would give everything……

That always angers me when they let men who specialize in victimizing women out of men’s jails for “good behavior” Yeah, they behave when around an all male environment, so they can get out and have access to women to victimize.

  41. John Denney says:

I saw a post somewhere mocking the President for mocking that female politician warning of the dangers of global warming during a blizzard. The poster said the President does not understand that global warming causes heavier snowfall because warm air holds more water, so that when the warm air mass hits a cold front, more snow falls.
I hadn’t heard this argument before, so I did some checking. Of course, I know that warm air holds more water, but how much more?
Well, if you check these charts, you can see that nowhere along the curves does a few degree change in temperature come anywhere close to doubling the amount of moisture in the air.
Say, from 72 degrees F to 74, the maximum moisture content of air goes from 1.2 to 1.3 pounds per thousand cubic feet of air, which is an 8% increase.
Is an 8% increase in snow noticeable? That would be like 6 1/2 inches of snow rather than just 6 inches.
