I get the feeling AOC is banging her chief of staff. Is it normal for Democrat women politicians to be banging their subordinates. Or is she actually a puppet.

    living under communism

    just a thought
I really wish that there could be a panel of people who escaped communist regimes and they would give talks at colleges to give students a clue of life there Maybe a weekly tv show with someone telling stories about their lives there. I know it will not happen but I really wish it would

In a similar vein, boycott these companies and shame them for their anti-Americanism, since they’re taking the same position as the redcoats at Lexington and Concord.

About 20 years ago, a very good friend gave me an avocado sapling of unusual provenance, and helped me dig a 6 foot deep hole to break through the foot thick clay hardpan down there. It was an all day job between us, the ground was so rocky and hard. Yeah, we were popping ibuprofen and nursing blisters at the end of the day. We mixed bags and bags of good potting soil in with some of the dirt and planted that 6 foot or so sapling.
In about 5 years it shot up to 30 feet tall, but the first crop was so heavy, it snapped off the top 1/3 of the tree. But it likes being 30 feet tall, and soon sprouted up there again, and stays there, despite my wife hiring guys to prune the top so the bottom would bush out so the avocados would be easier to reach. It just sprouts right back up and bears fruit up there.
My friend had grown it from a pit he got from a co-worker, whose parents in Florida send him a crate full of them every year. In the 1950’s, they had an avocado orchard in Cuba, but when Castro took over, they fled in a rowboat, rowing all the way to Florida. They had stocked the boat with their avocados, and ate them on the way, then used the pits to start a new orchard in Florida.
So my tree’s Grandfather is Cuban.

    • Somebody says:

That is a really neat story John. How do the avocados taste? If it came from Cuba is it cold hardy?

I like Haas avocados, the bumpy ones. They apparently are only cold hardy down to 30 degrees. Here in N Florida we can get cold snaps where the temps drop into the 20’s. One year in the 80’s we had single digits. It froze all the way to south Florida. That freeze about wiped out the citrus industry. Oranges have never been the same, so much smaller than they once were. To this day I constantly pick up grapefruit thinking they are navel oranges and then doh.

      • taw46 says:

I remember that, there was so much brown foliage in central Florida. My sister had an orange tree and a grapefruit tree in her yard that produced the best, sweetest fruit. It was never the same after the freeze.

      • John Denney says:

They taste great. I don’t know how cold hardy they are. When it gets cold I put a 100 watt light bulb on at the base of the tree to help keep it warm. A few leaves out on the periphery frosted this year, but the tree still looks healthy, with fruit ready to pick and new flower buds forming.

John, I really like that story about the Cuban avocados. 🥑

IKR? And now friends have babies from my tree, too, at least one of which is producing. 🙂

More good news for New Yorkers. (sarc)

New Yorkers will soon pay sales tax on all online purchases

ALBANY, N.Y. (WHEC) — A resolution in this year’s state budget will have New Yorkers paying more to shop online.

The marketplace provider tax will require all online retailers to collect a sales tax when a customer in New York makes a purchase.

    https://www.whec.com/news/new-yorkers-will-soon-pay-internet-sales-tax/5302427/?cat=565

    • elliesmom says:

Some online retailers don’t collect sales tax when you buy things from you. Instead, at the end of the year they send you an itemized list of what you bought from them during the year and suggest you might owe the state where you live sales tax on those items. They don’t figure your tax or give you any idea how to go about paying it. I guess it relieves them of any responsibility for collecting it, and the bookkeeping is easy for them. I don’t know if the New York law will give retailers that loophole. Amazon collects and pays the sales tax, but they don’t always get it right. I could use “Amazon pay” at some of the onine fabric stores I shop at, but fabric that’s meant for apparel isn’t taxed here and decorator fabric is. Amazon taxes it all. If I use Amazon to get free shipping, then I lose the money to taxes I didn’t owe.

    • Ann says:

NYS has been a Nexus state for years. We have always OWED the tax if uncollected online, most people just never paid it. Keep it to clothing and food (and other non-NYS taxed items) and you will not notice a difference.

It’s been reported (on news radio) that Michael Cohen (?) says PDJT is not being audited. I dont know if he is or is not. But Michael C is quite the prick isn’t he? It seems he’s taken the bait that contradicting whatever PDJT says will get him something in return.

I want to see Clintons’ tax returns and Obama’s school records. WTF don’t GOPers play this dirty?

        • lateblum says:

IKR. They must not want power as badly as democrats do. Maybe it’s just easier ccomplaining about the democrats than actually doing anything to stop them. It seems the GOP rather enjoys the view from the cheap seats. They can bitch and moan without ever having to lift a finger to create the change they claim they want to see.
