Friday Fuck The Haters Open Thread

Kate Smith was born in 1907 and died over thirty years ago. Let her rest in peace.

I bet a careful search of the NY Yankee’s history would reveal lots of things worse than anything Kate Smith is accused of. The Bambino’s off-field exploits were legendary.

Tell me again, how many black players did the Yankees have in 1938?

Will the team surrender its world titles when it was as Jim Crow as the buses were in Birmingham, Alabama?

I poured a vodka and cranberry just in time. Bring it TCHers ! I’m beginning to understand why dictators kill their opposition and throw their whinging media in jail, and the protesters who protest throwing their media in jail. (See: Cuba). Happy Good Friday. Here’s my religious reason for the season, Andrew Lloyd Weber and Tim Rice……and Ted Neeley, enjoy ❤

Vodka and soda here. Side note: Hubs and I have cruised Carnival enough times to follow the FB groups. Major meltdowns going on between clueless twits whinging that their cruises to Cuba are most likely a no go, and the other 50% of us trying to explain why Castro’s Cuba is unworthy of our support/ tourist dollars. It’s a shit show, and my unscientific polling surmises it is generational. Not teaching history is already beginning to pay off for the left.

Part of the problem with the silliness over God Bless America is the lack of learning and understand history. The song was written in 1942 while we were at war. People of all colors, creeds, and ages were involved in that war. We all came together after Pearl Harbor. Even the kids did their part saving tin foil and things that made them feel that they were helping. God Bless America was about patriotism not racism.
My neighbor was telling me about a history teacher telling his class that there were no POWs in WW2. The only problem was that my neighbor’s grandson knew his grandfather had been a POW in Germany during WW2. Years ago I had another neighbor who was in a German prison camp during WW2. He weighed 85 lbs when he was released.
People of my age remember and should tell the children about our history as it is not being taught in schools. When we die off, who will teach the children?

    just my opinion

From the article, “God bless America” isn’t the song people are upset about. They’re upset about songs like “Pickaninny Heaven” and “That’s Why Darkies were Born”. Note, I don’t have feelings one way or the other about this, but the issue isn’t “God Bless America”.

  5. helenk3 says:

Several weeks ago there was an outcry about the Star Spangled Banner being racist. This is the story of how and when it was written. Not a damn thing about race in it

Given there’s no reason everyone at Fenway Park sings “Sweet Caroline” in the 8th inning except the music director when it started liked the song, and enough people knew the words to sing along, I’m not going to weigh in much on the Yankee/Flyer issue except to say “God Bless America” seems like a better choice. Are we going to stop showing every Betty Hutton or Howard Keel movie on TV because “Annie Get Your Gun” wasn’t flattering to Native Americans?

Rockland County NY health department goes door to door looking for unvaccinated – Media lies about MMR vaccine risk

    • elliesmom says:

It’s going to take a major epidemic with deaths and permanent disabilities to wake people up. In the meantime women who are thinking about becoming pregnant should get booster vaccines ahead of time. I feel bad for people with compromised immune systems and babies too young to be vaccinated. Kids with stupid parents have more things to worry about than getting the measles. Mathematical risk analysis of the danger of getting the disease vs the risk of having a bad outcome from the vaccine is over the heads of a population that needs calxulators to make change.

      • DeniseVB says:

When the twins were born 16 years ago the vaccine debate was raging. Their pediatrician just didn’t give them combo shots, like the MMR. They were given single shots over a span of time. No problems 🙂

        • elliesmom says:

I had chicken pox as an adult, and it ain’t pretty. When I found myself exposed to other people’s children everyday, I kept my own boosters up to date.

          • lateblum says:

So did I, em. Got them from my kids. I was so sick. I ended up with a secondary infection and then a blood disorder. Ultimately, I ended up in the hospital, then in surgery to have my spleen removed. Good times.

So, what’s wrong with De Niro? He’s got a good life, a career, money and fame. Why can’t he just shut up?

I recall immediately after Alan Rickman passed that Emma carried on as if she was the bereaved widow. Even though she, I think, was married and Rickman had a long time partner/wife. Her behavior was rather surreal. I kept thinking her ex-hubby was thinking he got out just in time.

Not much is mentioned about the “R” (Rubella) in MMR vaccine but:
“There was a pandemic of rubella between 1962 and 1965, starting in Europe and spreading to the United States.[46] In the years 1964–65, the United States had an estimated 12.5 million rubella cases. This led to 11,000 miscarriages or therapeutic abortions and 20,000 cases of congenital rubella syndrome. Of these, 2,100 died as neonates, 12,000 were deaf, 3,580 were blind, and 1,800 were mentally retarded.”

I remember seeing blind, deaf, brain damaged Rubella babies at D.C. Children’s Hospital in the late 60s, back then it was bad luck, now no excuse.

    • Shez ZK says:

I came down with a strange rash halfway through my pregnancy, my doc thought it was Rubella. The virus was latent and triggered by pregnancy hormones. I also nearly miscarried. Growing up in the military I thought I had been vaccinated and immunized for everything under the sun, including Yellow Fever shots etc., to go to GITMO. After I delivered my perfectly fine daughter via C-Section my doc made sure I got a shot for it before I was released from the hospital. My daughter is still perfectly fine at 34 but I can remember being freaked out to come down with something like that while pregnant.

De Niro is a prick. I was the bartender at Boulley. Made serious bank. Could be a grand a day but you had to work from 11 to 12 five days a week. I did nothing as most people drank obscenely expensive wine. Bar was very tiny, two stools. No money went over it. I got 3℅ of all sales. Kind of place where I heard things like “I asked hubby what he felt like eating and he said fire up the jet let’s go to David’s”. Clientele was filthy rich. I often chatted with people as they waited for a table. I was not hired for my skills. It was a modeling gig. I had to wear a suit and smile. When you walked in i was what you saw. People might wait 20 minutes for a table. I gave them champagne and conversation. Again no money. Nothing was done on a computer. Scraps of paper given to a waiter (all men from Europe). Most were incredibly polite and generous. Not Bobby. Rude and tacky. Slovenly. I worked there for a year and only Christy Turlington and bob were rude. I made him spell his name so i could put his drinks on his tab. I absolutely knew who he was but I could not resist. Sir may I have your name. Sorry can you spell that? One word or two. He was pissed.
I got very lucky in NYC. Another yob I took magnums of veuve clicqout to Broadway shows on opening night. Stockard Channing was the bestest ever. She was in A Lion in Winter. I came by with champagne. We grabbed a cocktail and i told her my sister and cousin were visiting. She invited us backstage after the show and treated my sister like a star. My sis thought I was someone as the same trip she got backstage at Live! With Kelly Rippa. I had a friend who worked crew so I got tickets anyone can get if they stand in line, but Kelly and I have a history of cheap(free desert wine) i was waiting on her and place got insanely busy. She offered to help. I said sure you can fill up water. I was joking but she did it. Goofy but sincere woman. We had a few bottles of sickeningly sweet wine. Months later she saw me with camera guy before show the show. She treated my sister like royalty.
