Comments seem not to be working in the last thread? So here’s a fresh baked new one 🙂

I dont know if anyone posted this before yesterday’s thread. But this Michelle Malkin tweet made me smirk and then laugh and then smirk some more.

    • taw46 says:

That was great, Michelle! Lol. (Besides, they will all lie and say they aren’t having any sex.)

    • DeniseVB says:

Twitbook (can’t remember which one) took down on of Malkin’s posts defending free speech, they better not start messing with her because that girl has superpowers 😀

  3. lateblum says:

Another sad bit of news, Doris Day has passed.

  4. DeniseVB says:

GOT is dominating the trending column on Twitter, then I saw OANN in the mix. This is why… prezzy !

    • Somebody says:

Put OANN in the airports, take away CNN’s contract. Except for a couple of shows OANN is straight news. It would be a much better choice for a traveler to catch the day’s news than fake news CNN

  5. helenk3 says:

    this is getting really annoying.
remember when everyone was screaming RACIST blah blah blad over the term black Friday? It is a bookkeeping term for pete’s sake. when stores went from red ink (debt) to black ink (profit)

    • DeniseVB says:

In the black is a business term used for decades when profits were written in black ink and losses in red ink. The racism rants were so stupid. We learned basic bookkeeping in h.s. math classes.

    • 49erDweet says:

It’s not a “generational” thing. It’s a “stupidity” thing. When people think they know everything so why-pay-attention-in-class rules their input, it’s just stupid.

I wish I could believe people will be arrested and charged with treason, but I just can’t see it happening. I hope to be proved wrong.

      • lateblum says:

I know. I feel the same way. I dont think that there will be charges just to pacify the loudest conservative or truth seeking voices. Not even low level traitors will be charged. The fix is always in for those with power.

Trump buildings face millions in climate fines under new New York rules

Donald Trump’s reluctance to address climate change is set to cost his business empire millions of dollars in fines levied by New York City due to the amount of pollution emitted by Trump-owned buildings.

Is this that New Green Deal the NY Gov is jumping all over? And DeBasio ? The whole state is bitching about the new regs. They’re insane regs and the slumlords will only jack up the rents again to pay for it. Same ole Democratic b.s. policy.

      • John Denney says:

My understanding is that New York’s rent control prevents owners charging enough to maintain the property, pay taxes, and still make a profit. So the property becomes decrepit and the owners labeled slumlords.

They are ending it after next season. Smollett is still getting paid. They will bring him back towards the end as a fuck you. Ratings won’t matter. Fox canceled the sister show, Star, as of now so I bet there is plenty of resentment from producers, cast, and crew. The ozero will cast him in some racially charged show that no one will watch.

    • Cisco says:

Stupid, stupid, stupid Smollett and his even stupider stunt.

      • lyn says:

        Good read.

And then there’s Daenerys, who completes her face-heel turn by abandoning her carefully laid plans and her tactically immaculate victory by deciding to spray King’s Landing with fire. Benioff and Weiss say in this week’s behind-the-scenes featurette that she makes that choice impulsively, when she sees the Red Keep and thinks about everything her family has lost in Westeros. But in an episode full of people charging thoughtlessly into danger, with no idea what they’re doing and only the most vaguely defined intentions, her decision to massacre thousands feels particularly empty.

  23. elliesmom says:

I just want to go on the record here by saying I’m not upset at what happened on GOT last night. Anyone who was part of Hillary’s campaign in 2008 and observed her in 2016 should have been totally prepared for the Dragon Queen’s actions in last night’s episode. Women are not “nicer” than men when they get power. Women are at least as likely to seek revenge on their enemies as men are. Men make fools of themselves over women all the time. People who are broken as children often seek validation in the wrong places. The writers at GOT are only guilty of understanding human nature. Would a “twist in the tale” have been fun? Maybe it’s still coming, but at this point the only isssue I have is that so far the ending could have been predicted from what we knew at the end of season one.

    • Mothy67 says:

I agree. Just don’t like how they have charted it. It’s more spectacle than story. I think each battle could have been cut a third in time. Battle of the Bastards blew me away, but I didn’t start watching for a Michael Bay movie. Cersai ending was a big let down.
Maybe they’ll be the perfect writers for the new Star Wars trilogy.
Spot on with killary comparison. Dany knows she is not the true heir and will burn it down to grasp the power. Yep. Hillary and the dnc. Will destroy everything to get what is hers. Tear the country apart.
Curious about the horse next week. Same horse mercenary dude was on before the battle, then little girl she tried to save was holding a white horse toy and still clutching it in her death. Then, I assume, Bran warged into the horse that reminds one of the apocalypse named Death. Still enough to keep me guessing and watching.
Maybe a lot of loose ends are being left unanswered intentionally to be addressed in the prequel or books. Or maybe they are just sick of doing it for ten years.

    • lyn says:

It was personal for Dany, but she could have torched only Cersei for her revenge after the bells rang. I’m still on Team Dany. LOL. I like what Swannie wrote that if Dany dies, then her dragon kills everyone.

      • elliesmom says:

But that’s the thing. Torching the city after the people had surrendered wasn’t an act of revenge. It was blind ambition. With Jon’s revelation and more and more people aware he’s the rightful heir to the throne, the only way the throne becomes Dany’s is if the people are scared shitless of her and her dragon. If she had only killed Cersei, the people might have thrown a parade for her, but the throne would be Jon’s whether he wants it or not. He’s next in line, but in her mind, it’s “her turn”, and she doesn’t care what she has to do to make it happen. To be on Team Dany is to support a despot. I do understand how hard it is to let the idea of “the Breaker of Chains” go, but she only freed the slaves to get them behind her. She still expected their unquestioning loyalty to her. Kind of like the Democrats and their identity groups. 😉 The kind and giving Dany was just an illusion. Watch season 2 again. The foreshadowing of a cruel, ambitious Mother of Dragons is all there.

        • Mothy67 says:

Plus I love the splodey heads from femnazis. No doubt this is where it was going with or without finished books. They think they can dictate works of fiction now. And Sansa or Arya might yet rule.

        • lyn says:

Dany admitted she chose fear over love. To kill only Cersei would have been her revenge, but I agree she torched the city to scare. I view Dany as a globalist who is willing to destroy nations to save them. I still like her more than the Starks (save Arya) and Jon, and I know she is cruel. For me the best thing from season 8 is the Night King song.

          • Mothy67 says:

I want Gendry so I can laugh at everyone losing their minds on twatter. Arya could be dead. Riding off on the pale horse?

          • lyn says:

I like Gendry too. I watched the after-show thing before I watched episode 5. I’ll do that with 6 too. I think that’s why I had more sympathy for Dany’s mass destruction, because the writers said she was all alone after all the betrayals. Her only family is a dragon, so expect fire.

          • lyn says:

            This is good.

          • swanspirit says:

That’s what bothered me about the contrast between Dany and Cersei. Cersei has been evil, and self serving all along. Yet she gets to die in the arms of her beloved brother( who somehow mysteriously grew his hand back, when he embraces his sister; another glitch in filming)but Dany, who has lofty goals, and sincerely loved people, is betrayed again and again.
Jon is so high minded and self righteous, he can’t make love to her, even after she helps save all of humanity from the White Walkers. What kind of love is that? Screw you Jon.

          • lyn says:

            Good analysis, Swannie.

          • Mothy67 says:

I hated Cersei’s death too, but it seemed obvious to me Dany was on a downward spiral. She justified everything through her divine right. She was not the rightful heir and it made her crack. A little less battle and a little more inner turmoil revealed i’d have preferred, but she hasn’t been innocent in a long time. Her darkside journey was rushed.

          • elliesmom says:

Go back and watch some of the Dany scenes from season 2. The ones where she locks people in a vault to suffocate or orders her baby dragons to burn people alive. She’s never been goodness and light. Perhaps, Jon is unwilling to continue his sexual relationship with her now he knows it’s incest? He still pledged his loyalty to her. He hasn’t betrayed her although she might have changed his mind about wanting her to be queen after her rampage. At this point Dany has killed more people, both evil and innocent, than Cersei has. Dreams die hard, but that’s all the image of a kind and benevolent Daenerys Targaryen was. She’s been driven by selfish ambition throughout. Sansa saw it from their first meeting, and she’s had a lot of experience with evil people.

    • Venus E. Lee says:

We’ve seen for a long time Dany’s proclivity for violence (she crucified people FFS & lit Sam’s father & brother on fire) and hubris. Now we know she will not only ‘take what’s hers by fire and blood” (as she has repeatedly said), she will take what isn’t hers the sane way (she knows now Jon is the true, righteful heir, she’d rather take the throne by deceit than admit it).

Episode 1 of Season 1 it has been clear that Jon is the one who ‘saves the world.’

The writers are staying true to the story. The only issue this season is that it is compressed to just finish it already, so story arcs are being rushed instead of developing in a more palatable way.

      • Mothy67 says:

But he is such a drip.

        • lyn says:

It’s only a story. I hated Dany in the beginning, and now I like her. I liked the Starks, and now I hate them (save Arya). Am I being manipulated by bad writing or rooting for the underdog? I’d rather die by fire than by hounds.

        • lyn says:

Based on the trailer, Arya still is in King’s Landing. Maybe she and Jon can have a sibling stabfest. They are so sweet together. LOL.

    What a great cover!

    • John Denney says:

I like Walter Williams, but his book title triggered me. Discrimination is a good thing. What’s it’s opposite? Indiscriminate. To discriminate simply means to distinguish this from that. An FM radio has an electronic circuit called a discriminator. When one simply observes that this person is black and that one is white, one has discriminated. It’s useful information, whether for a description of an assailant, or a doctor deciding on whether or not to test for sickle cell anemia, which primarily affects black people.

Fighting discrimination is stupid; people should not be indiscriminate. What is to be fought is prejudice – pre-judging someone based upon their appearance. “You can’t judge a book by its cover.”

But, not having read his book, and having thought a bit, he’s probably using the word just as I do – discriminating properly between, say, kids who have positive reinforcement and those that do not.

  62. John Denney says:

I was just wondering recently how well crossbows would have worked against the British at Lexington and Concord.

Muskets were not accurate, and took a full minute to reload.

A crossbow with a stirrup at the front could be cocked in a few seconds for draw weights up to perhaps 150 pounds. (Put the stirrup on the ground, insert foot, grab string with both hands and pull up into trigger latch.) I’m thinking a reload could easily be done in less than 10 seconds. Modern hunting bows are only 80 pound draw weight and pulled with one hand, so a crossbow could be much more powerful, being cocked with both hands, and crossbows are nearly as accurate as a rifle.

I think the Brits would have lost even worse than they actually did.

Anyway, after those thoughts, I saw this today:

“Crossbow German deaths: Two shot through heart, one in neck”
