The GOT Thread – Bazinga! Edition

As a tribute to the Game of Thrones finale tonight, I give you “Sheldon”.

As the joke goes, it’s predicted that 90% of GOT fans will hate the ending, whereas, 90% of TBBT fans loved theirs.  In related news, 100% of the Empire cast got behind Juicy Omelette protesting his firing.  Fox cancelled them.  (What’s the over/under Netflix will pick them up, including Juicy?)

“You are my queen.” Stab, stab.

    • Myiq2xu™ says:

Jon could never stab her. It’s not in his nature to hurt women.

Just about everyone on that show has a dark side except Jon Snow. If he had a dark side life would have been a lot easier for him.

If Sir Galahad was a Boy Scout, he would not be a pure as Jon Snow.

Sometimes I wish Jon Snow would say fuck it, get drunk, punch Cersei in the mouth, and then give Sansa what she so badly wants from him. Then when he’s done he can accidentally call her Ygritte and ruin the whole mood.

This thread was designed to last til Tuesday, I know it will be a slow night avoiding GOT *Spoilers*, as for me, I’ll be watching for them, I honestly love spoilers, especially for shows I don’t follow.

They wrapped up TBBT nicely (I haven’t watched the past two seasons). Sheldon and Amy won the Nobel, the elevator got fixed, Amy had a very cool makeover thanks to Raj and Penny is pregnant. Also, the last scene with the gang eating Chinese one last time, it was Jim Parsons singing the acoustic theme song. Part 1 of their finale reminded me why it probably went on two seasons too long.

    • lyn says:

      I like spoilers too.

      • DeniseVB says:

I’m lucky to live on the east coast. I did watch TBBT’s over-hyped finale, then went to TBBT’s FB fan group to talk about it. WHOA! The admins already posted *Spoiler* threads, so we discussed. I was amazed how many people complained on those threads that people were actually *spoiling* it for them. One guy even said, you should have waited til Sunday! You spoiled it for me! I’m leaving the group! Jerks. It’s no secret that if you don’t want to learn the ending of a tv show or movie until you see it, you stay off the internet, don’t listen to podcasts/radios, watch tv.

Before the internet, when the Indy 500 was tape delayed to prime time, we avoided everything, even neighbors 🙂

  3. Myiq2xu™ says:

My GOT prediction: Jon goes looking for Daenerys so he can tell her he changed his mind because of what she did and he is declaring himself king. But when he reaches her chambers she is curled up in a ball crying, consumed by guilt for what she did.

She tells him she is abdicating and is taking what is left of the Dothraki, the Unsullied, and Drogon and is returning to Meereen where she will live in permanent exile.

Essos is a better fit for her anyway.

  4. DandyTIger says:

The dragon kills all the idiots and sits/crushes the throne. The end.

  5. elliesmom says:

I’m just starting to make dinner so I’ll probably be about an hour late to the show. It’s recording so that’s fine. Emilia says fans are going to be “shocked” at how the story ends. I don’t see Jon killing Dani, but either Aryaa or Sansa might do her in. Or maybe Tyrion will seek revenge for the people of Westoros and his friend, Varys. Or her dragon will turn on her. I don’t see Dani surviving the night if the actress who plays her says I’m supposed to be “shocked” by the ending. “Ice and Fire” could be Jon and his new pet dragon. As long as Samwell and Gilly live happily ever after, I’m all good. And they get to keep Ghost.

I searched “Michelle Obama playing the piano” and this was all that came up. An Ellen sketch from her book launch last Nov. Ellen pushes out a keyboard (about the 5 min. mark) and MO plays a few notes then says, this is not like a regular piano and pushes it aside. The whole video is pretty funny, Ellen does her best to embarrass MO and it seemed to work, but I don’t think MO was in on the “Costco” jokes.

I rewatched most of the new season. Fast forwarded through the battles. I am not as disappointed as I was on first viewing. The show runners put a decade into it. Who can blame them for wanting to move on. I do miss the writing of the early seasons. Olenna Tyrell was an absolute joy and Tyrion Well Tyrion. I think wrapping up something so epic was always going to disappoint.

    • swanspirit says:

Just my take. Ultimately, there was no reason to have Dani go mad, and then die at Jon’s hands. The writing was so bad.
If Dany didn’t die by the sword, the pen would have killed her.

  9. Myiq2xu™ says:

I don’t know what is more surprising – that the writers of GOT didn’t make Brienne of Tarth a lesbian, or that nobody has complained that there are no lesbians on the show.

  10. DeniseVB says:

Father “McHottie” Jonathan of Fox News is leaving the priesthood. I all of a sudden have a strong urge to re-read The Thorn Birds.

    • lateblum says:

He mos def IS Fr. McHottie! I read something last week, but I didn’t think he was actually leaving the priesthood. Maybe the scandals and then the Papal declaration that all clerical criminal behavior be reported to the superiors rather than the police made a final impression on him.

  30. Venus E. Lee says:

    I’m fine with GOT ending.
My only real problem is Jon should have CHOSEN to take the black, thus giving up his rightful claim to the throne, rather than having others choose it for him
He did the right thing killing Dany (yes, fuck off lunatics who thought just because Dany was a great character with cool dragons that she was anything other than a zealot & despot who literally had no problem murdering thousands to “save” them). A self-righteous tyrant is 100x worse than a tyrant motivated by greed or power. By killing her, Jon is the prince who was promised to save the world from tyrants. It has been obvious since season 1, episode 1 that Jon is th hero of the story. Duh.

But again, it should have been Jon, as rightful heir, to abdicate and take the black out of his 1. Desire not to be king and 2. As penance/mourning for killing his love.

I bet in the books Martin has it going like that as that makes more sense given the rest of the story.

But other than that –Sansa queen of the north/the north independent,.Bran a just & wise king with future rulers in the 6 kingdoms chosen by consent not heredity, Arya exploring new worlds, and Jon back in the North (with Ghost), the only place he ever was happy, is all good with me.

    • votermom says:

I ‘m ok with Jon Killing Dany – it was pretty obvious she was going power mad. But Drogon should have killed him too.

      • Venus E. Lee says:

Why? Drogon recognizes a Targeryon when he smells one.
No, Drogon killing Jon would not be consistent with the world (and the rules within that world) that Martin created.

        • votermom says:

If not Drogon killing him, then Jon dying in killing her anyway.
All his ” you are my wueen” stuff is cheap now.
I’d preger it if they hadn’t gone with Dany goes mad s8 and gone with Jon helps her recover her compassion instead storyline.
They already did the power mad Queen story with Cersei.

          • lyn says:

Yep. Why were the two main female characters mad queens? Boring!!!

          • lyn says:

            And both died. Yawn.

          • votermom says:

            “Queen” not wueen LOL

Anyway, my bigger problem is Bran getting the throne.

          • Venus E. Lee says:

Lol I would have preferred happy ending too –i had hoped Jon was going to be able to tame Dany’s arrogance, hubris and violence with his humility and that she was going to spur ambition in him. And that they would rule together (yes, a miracle pregnancy for Dany but within realm of possibility) and have an heir that would be the prince who was promised.
The story could have gone that way, but it didn’t. Once it did not go that way, and Jon’s influence could not tame Dany’s worse instincts, then it has to be consistent with that outcome. Dany is Cersei with a dragon especially once she learned the truth of Jon’s parentage–she had no more right to the throne than Cersei did at that point. She knew it & it still didn’t stop her from taking it. She killed all those innocent people because she knew she had to rule by fear, as Jon was the rightful heir. She made her choice. After that Jon had to kill her or be killed, eventually, himself as he would not have lasted long going along with her next insanity (which would have been burning Sansa to “save” the North, etc).

So, like I said: the story went the not happily ever after way. Jon taking the black and going North is consistent with that. The only flaw with the writing is it should have been his choice. He still is Aegon Targeryon, rightful heir. He killed a pretender to the throne to save Westeros. Once he abdicated, then the council should have chosen the king, etc. As I said, I bet Marrin writes it like that.

          • votermom says:

            “Queen” not wueen LOL

Anyway, my bigger problem is Bran getting the throne.

He’s so meh as a character.
            Always trippin.
            Not really doing anything.

          • Venus E. Lee says:

Yeah I’m not so good with the 3 eyed raven being king too (and his character is much more important in the books).

My guess is Martin (and thus the GOT writers) didn’t want Jon on the throne in the end in order to do the whole “ruler is chosen by the lords not by heredity” ending and there was no one else to make King but Bran.

Because the real truth is –and I know this will piss Lynn and the other Jon Snow haters out there off–but the best outcome given the rest of the story was for Jon to sit on the throne. That is what is true to his character arc, his birthright, etc.

That’s why I hoped it would be him & Dany together (the “happily ever after” ending) because Jon, like Ned, is too honorable to be a good king. But I thought perhaps with Dany at his side–with her learning from his humility & honor, him getting some of her ambition, etc –it would have been more satisfying.
But if not that, logically storywise, Jon should be king.

The bittersweet ending, Jon taking the black, like I said is only because Martin wanted the no more hereditary rule ending.

      • lyn says:

I was hoping for Jon’s head to be bitten off.

    • DandyTIger says:

Funnily I was happy with the ending. The writing for the last two seasons was rushed and sloppy. But the evil queen had to be killed. And it was clear pretty early she was evil. For me I didn’t want Jon to get the thrown. Too much of an idiot and a pussy, and he’s partly responsible for all the slaughter. The main thing I wanted was that the only redeeming character, Arya, do make it out and do something cool. Also ended well for the good doggie. Screw everyone else. Of course later Sansa turns into an evil x-man villain and kills everyone.

      • Venus E. Lee says:

Lol I was trying not to day Jonwas too much of a pussy to be a good king, but that’s kind of what I meant when I said him & Dany together (giving the other the balance needed) could have been good.

But Martin didn’t want the story to go that way because he wanted an end to hereditary rule in Westeros, so . . .

I am Ok with Jon taking the black, and the ending overall, but still it would have been more right/better for him to do it by choice/abdicating and THEN the council choosing Bran & getting rid of hereditary rule.

Here’s a fun escape. A 5 minute ride with Pres Trump’s motorcade in NYC today. In the last minute or so, thousands of people lining the streets.

  34. Mothy67 says:

I get why Bran, but I wish the character had been fleshed out a little more. There is so much to the three eyed raven that is a mystery. He said he’s not even Bran anymore. His flat affect is creepy as hell. I guess that can all be addressed in the prequel. Most of the season felt like the show runners simply wanted to wrap it up. They could have probably gone on for years, but I bet the cast and crew were exhausted after all that time . It was a great show with a less than perfect final season.
One thing that annoyed was how dark the show was this year. Even the council meeting at the end had very little light. For me it didn’t add atmosphere it distracted .

    • lyn says:

I only watched the Dany murder scene. Leftists do not believe in redemption.

      • elliesmom says:

On the left it’s not a matter of redemption. If they like you, no matter what you do, they’ll find excuses for you. If they don’t like you, you don’t have to do anything that would even need redemption for them to hate you. If you didn’t watch the scene that led up to Jon’s stabbing Dani, then you didn’t hear tell her armies the fighting wasn’t over. You didn’t see the look on her face as she described what she expected them to do. And you didn’t see the look on Jon’s face when Dani said she was sending her armies to “break the wheel” in Winterfell. At that moment I knew Jon was going to stop her.

    • Venus E. Lee says:

My coworker reads the books and is basically a GOT geeks. He says Bran’s character in the books and the 3 eyed raven thing is much more fleshed out.
Obviously, the writers went with fleshing out the “sexier” characters more to the detriment of Bran.

  37. elliesmom says:

No matter whether it’s a book, a movie, or a TV series, the story belongs to its creators. We just get to go along for the ride. GOT was a great ride. If the end spoiled the ride beyond redemption for you, then go write your own book and sell the screen rights. 🙂 I wasn’t happy with the way Lost ended, and for awhile I regretted spending so much time watching it. Then I took stock, and I decided it was fun while it lasted. Since it ended, I haven’t recommended it to anyone, and when we moved, I tossed the DVD set in the “get rid of it” pile. I’m not thrilled with King Bran, but I’d recommend GOT to anyone.

    • votermom says:

I’d just tell.them to stop watching before the last season, like I say for Buffy and B5

    • Mothy67 says:

I was thinking about the first few seasons. Maybe it’s a good thing they wrapped it up now rather than continuing as they have the last two. Better to truncate than have a great show limp across the finish line. I can remember a few years back when The Walking Dead was the water cooler show. When Carol saved everyone from Terminus. I would buy the episodes. I can’t even watch it now. I do wish they had clarified a few billion things. What happened to the letters Varys sent? Sand woman locked up in the crypt? That other witch who told Dany a prophecy? All the prophecies? The children of the forest and on and on. I didn’t hate the recent episodes. Simply not the same show from its early years.

  38. DeniseVB says:

What’s the story behind this scene? It seemed to be a highlight of the finale for the twitter fans.

    • lyn says:

      Master and doggie reunited.

    • Mothy67 says:

Jon didn’t say goodbye to him when he left to fight Cersei. The producers said it was a CGI budget issue. It’s his direwolf. He and each of the Stark children had one. He is reunited with him in the final.
